Home conveniently located, lovely spot. Cabin was as described. We love the area. Cabin had most of the things one might need for a long weekend stay. Appliances that we used all worked well. Lovely hikes

The cabin is cozy & comfortable. Lots of beds, plenty of couches & well stocked kitchen. Only one shower.
The only thing I wish had been more clearly described in the listing is snow expectations. There is ~20-30ft from the cabin to the driveway that is not cleared when it snows. Luckily my family arrived during daylight & we were able to shovel the walk but you should factor this into any winter time cabin plans.
Overall great location & comfortable cozy cabin!

Would be great...if the hosts disclose the flaws
We booked this property for a long weekend with four adults and two two-year-olds. The location is great, and it has plenty of space for a big group. Communication was quick and check-in was easy.
This is clearly a well-loved family property that is occasionally rented to outsiders. It's not a luxury getaway spot (nor is it marketed as such). So far so good.
Here's the problem: there were multiple maintenance issues -- severe enough to have caused us to book a different property had we known that they existed. When we reported these to the owners, they acted as though they were no big deal, even though the issues weren't communicated in advance and they weren't resolved during our stay.
For example, the house only has one bathtub, which had a big "DO NOT USE" sign in it. We spent the first three days of our trip awkwardly showering our two-year-olds in the phone-booth-sized shower. The owner said that the tub would not be fixed for months, and eventually told us to disregard the sign and to use the bathtub anyway, but not to fill it too full. When I asked for a discount to accommodate how difficult it had been for us to wash our kids in the tiny shower, the owner offered a small refund, then didn't deliver on it. When I asked her about it later, she sent me HALF of the amount she had offered, claiming that since we eventually were able to bathe our kid in the bathtub on the last day, she wasn't going to send the full amount.
Or, take the main bedroom upstairs, whose heater didn't work. We tried for 45 minutes to get the pilot light to stay lit, but it wouldn't stay on. When we reported this to the owner, she said "That one doesn’t work." I mean, yeah, we figured that out, but it would have been nice to know before we spent our limited vacation time on troubleshooting home maintenance.
Again, I get that this is a family property, and I wouldn't expect everything to be perfect. But I do expect to be notified of significant maintenance problems! I got the distinct feeling that the owner was irritated that I was complaining at all.
Ultimately, we enjoyed our trip and appreciated the place, but would have preferred more accurate information up-front to manage our expectations, or potentially book elsewhere with working heaters and functional bathrooms for our two families with small children.

Great stay at this beautiful cabin in the woods!
Our group of 8 had a wonderful time at this beautiful cabin in the woods over MLK weekend, 2022. The cabin is spacious and easily accommodated our party of 8. There are legitimately 6 bedrooms, all with comfortable beds, and the living room could comfortably seat 10+ in sofas and recliners. The wood burning stove is and amber sconces make the living room very cozy and warm. The washer and dryer work well and although we didn't end up using the dishwasher, it's nice that there is one! Comms with the owner were easy - they are very responsive and quickly answered the few questions that we had. Bear Valley is less than 30 min away for skiing/sledding. Would definitely stay here again!

Fantastic cabin and responsive host!
We had a wonderland vacation at this cabin, with lots of snow! Donna was kind to call before we headed out, to chat about the conditions and driving in snow. There was a generator to tie us over during power outage, and lots of wood to burn. Highly recommend this home and the host!

Cozy and great value
Our family loved staying here to celebrate Christmas, enjoy the snow, and spend some quality time together after missing so much during the pandemic. We were eight adults and four little kids but we never felt crowded in this spacious mountain home. The very well stocked kitchen allowed us to prepare delicious family meals and bake up some fun memories. The outdoor area was a blast - we built a few sled runs, snow friends and had some snowball fights. Hope to come back and make this a family tradition each winter. An amazing value!

The house and surrounding area was beautiful. Had a great experience here and left with some unforgettable memories. Highly recommend. Only critique I have is not a huge fan of the carpet bathroom.

Heaven in the mountains
We really enjoyed our stay. There was a hiccup with the cleaning crew being there before us, but the host was incredible with communication. This is a beautiful cabin to stay. Very homey and comfy. There is a very bad echo when you sit outside, so neighbors can really hear everything. Overall a 5* rating for me. The beds were comfy, the family room was the perfect spot for our amazing game of pictionary! Lots of room. There were 8 of us, and there were comfy places for everyone to relax. The surroundings are absolutely breathtaking. Star gazing was so easy in the small clearing in the front yard. The pond was a short walk down the hill and is absolutely breathtaking.

Weekend getaway
This place is amazing for a family or group of people. Fully equipped with everything you will need. BBQ, washer and dryer, coffee pot etc. full kitchen with pots and pans and dishes. I will definitely be back. A couple of the girls are already planning to book for their families. Short drive to alpine lake which is amazing. Water in both directions. Next trip I will plan to stay longer. Thank you so much we created lifelong memories.

Dorrington Cabin Reivew
For those considering renting this cabin, you can't go wrong. We stayed here with family and friends in June, 2021. The hosts have supplied a picnic table out on the patio and we thoroughly enjoyed having breakfasts and dinners there laughing and having a great time. If you rent in colder weather, there is a nice living room and a kitchen table for 5. Wifi was adequate with a good selection of movie cable channels if you want to watch a relaxing evening movie. The hosts will respond to you within a reasonable amount of time in case there are any problems. There is a well stocked kitchen with coffee maker, pots, pans, mugs, forks, spoons, plates, nice size refrigerator and good working heater for the winter if you go then. etc. We just used the heater very briefly at one time. For those wanting to BBQ, there is a nice BBQ right on the deck which we used a couple times ... really nice to have, The hosts just ask that you bring your own towels, sheets, and pillow cases and soap.. Other than that, I believe everything was there. There is a small lake/pond within walking distance which was really great to walk around and enjoy the dragon flies and nature. Not far from shore there was a large wooden platform which I imagine people swim to in the summer. There was also a nice beach area with picnic tables. I don't think street parking is allowed, so having the pond within walking distance is convenient in the summer. The cabin has a fair amount of privacy, plenty of parking and it seemed that most of the other nearby cabins were not occupied full time. There is a tub bathroom upstairs and a shower bathroom downstairs. We stayed 3 nights which was just perfect for us. There are a lot of "touristy" type things to do all within a 30 minute drive. If you go, check out the Sourgrass parking, only a 10 minute drive north. It's right along the beautiful Stanislaus river. really nice. Also the cabin is a little higher in elevation which provides for a little cooler weather during the summer. That was nice. All in all, we really had a great time making some great memories and talked about the trip a lot after coming back reliving some fun (and funny) moments. What's life without those kinds of things anyway...as life is way too short to begin with. Well, I guess that's a wrap for me. Hope this review will be helpful for anyone thinking of renting.

Perfect getaway for 2 families
I came here with my brother and his family in the summer and we loved it so much we came back for spring break. I can’t express how perfect this place is especially in these times of social distancing. The cousins played games all evening in the living room and walked to the lake in the day. The adults took the kids sledding in the day and laughed all night. There was enough snow to build a snowman and go sledding, but not any snow on the roads. The weather was also perfect to be outside with a jacket or sweater. The grill makes it very convenient for dinner and even made some amazing tri-tip sandwiches for lunch. The fire place made it nice and cozy to relax after dinner.

Heaven in the trees
What a treat to stay in this rustic, adorable, and obviously loved little family cabin in the middle of the snow and big trees of the Stanislaus National Forest. It’s larger than you might think, and although we were only a small family - the home can accommodate many more in its 5 bedrooms. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided by the owners, but don’t forget to bring your own sheets and pillow cases, a policy which we liked. About 10 minutes up the hill from Arnold, the house is conveniently located just off of highway 4 to make it easy to access in the winter but far enough away that the cabin has a rustic feel. It is an easy and short drive to Bear Valley and the Snow Parks nearby. If you are here after the snow thaws, you can sit and enjoy the sounds, sights, and smells under the trees on the deck or in the front yard on benches carved out of logs. We loved this place. Our only (small) issue was that while the house is professionally cleaned between visits, there were still areas (under beds, behind couches, under appliances, etc...) that could have been cleaned a bit more thoroughly. Enjoy this special place - It’s a real treat.

Amazing getaway
I rented with my family and friends, we had an amazing time. Any questions I had, Donna and Mike would answer quickly, they are super nice and, they gave us some good recommendations about things nearby. Everything was close to the cabin, we had no troubles at all. We are definitely excited to go back for another getaway!

Great Cabin in Great Location
The property was everything we were looking for in a cabin near Bear Valley. It was only a 15 min drive to the mountain. The only that I would complain about is that there wasn’t any linens on the beds. We totally forgot about bringing it with us and we had to contact friends to help us out. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great cabin getaway.

Peaceful Under the Trees
We were grateful to have found such a lovely spot for a home base while day hiking up near Ebbetts Pass. We wanted to be isolated during Covid, and this did the trick. Very quiet community, at least midweek when we were there. The decor bespeaks a much-loved family cabin, and it’s easy to see why. Kitchen had all we needed—except flickering/dying neon overhead light should be replaced! Thanks for sharing your home with us.

Great cabin
We enjoyed staying here. The house was bigger than what we needed, so we didn’t even use the second floor. It was a nice cabin, very comfortable.
There were nice places to go for a walk nearby and close to the big streets park and various lakes.

Perfect the cousins to make some good memories
This was exactly what we needed. 5 minute walk to the local lake, nice size deck with a grill to spend family time in the beautiful outdoors and PLENTY of seating in the living room. MORE than enough room for 2 families of 4. Our teens walked around the area and to the lake everyday. Never heard anyone say they were board. It’s so beautiful we loved it. It’s VERY close to Big Trees State Park, but we never felt the need to go anywhere.

We, two families with four small children, stayed here between Christmas and New year, and had a great time. Everything was great in the cabin.
Great location, too. Bear Valley ski area and the sno parks are about 30 min away, and if you forgot something, big tree market and ebbets pass sporting goods are just a few miles back.
