Essay by Susan F. - an 85 year old guest of the Studio:
…an aerie hanging in the treetops above a lake…
From the Lakeside dock:
Truly. Toad Lake has polliwogs.
A brown duck (which?) dashes for brush-cover. Two tiny ducklings follow her. (Are they really running across the surface?) They leave spidery wakes.
Dragonflies hover, dart. Butterflies flutter, alight, open, close. Yellow Irises cluster.
A woman suns on an inner-tube. A woman swims laps. A man, standing in the lake, plays fetch-a-stick with two paddling dogs.
A kayaker. Another kayaker with a fishing rod.
On the far shore, any time of day, people are fishing. Slanting light makes colors fluorescent: blue (beach chair), orange (vest), red (SUV), all repeated upside-down in the lake surface.
Bald eagles glide high above. Another raptor (which?) soars.
Swallows (which?) are skimming.
Robins and song sparrows are singing everywhere. More birdsong. (Whose?)
Timeless northwest forest trees that taper, are mirrored on the lake’s surface as wavering blocks of modern art.
Eight Canada geese form a flotilla and head to the far shore, reconnoiter on land, then slowly make their way to the small decaying raft beside us on the pier. They nibble at the covering of green growth and then depart. The geese have left the raft unstable. Untethered, it floats slowly into the middle of the lake. And then, where?
An alligator (?) with brilliant gold eyes drifts to the middle of the lake, then hides on the far side. He is retrieved by kayak, - that thrilling, life-size, plastic alligator head that was meant to keep the geese away.
From the Dwelling:
Look down on the top-feathers of swallows (which?), turned golden in the sun.
Catch sight of two young bucks with furred stubs of antlers strolling down the driveway.
Later, read by lamplight in chairs before the fireplace. One book can be passed between the two of you to share, reading aloud.
Sleep on a queen-size perfect mattress.
Brew morning coffee and take the morning easy in

Amazing cabin and location

Idyllic stay on a beautiful lake surrounded by forest, just a 15-minute drive from Bellingham. A real find, and on sunny days, simply magic. Position on the lake allows for sun on the dock from early morning into the evening.

The best view of Toad lake and the best house in the neighborhood. Quiet and peaceful area. Waking up to the still calm lake was priceless 😌. Overall A+ stay, If we ever go back to Seattle this lake house is definitely worth the 2 hr drive... Also 2 hours into Vancouver!

Such a beautiful, relaxing place to spend a week. We loved every minute of it!!!

The studio was perfect for our needs. It has a beautiful view of the lake which is essentially right outside the door and we could swim off the dock. The apartment is a good size for a couple. It was clean and very comfortable. We will definitely stay here the next time we come to Bellingham.

Came here for a couple days of fishing. The property is nice - exactly like the pictures. The location is great.

We could not have enjoyed our stay more! The lake was serene and quiet except for the song of the bull frogs. It was by far the cleanest place I've ever stayed. The interior was done with high quality touches. The bed was comfortable. We enjoyed our stay very much! As there is no stove in this unit, the only thing I could have wished for was a hot plate to boil water on.

The Host was very welcoming. It was our 45th Anniversary and she had a gift bag and a bottle of wine for our stay. Everything was very nice and clean. We stayed in the studio but there is a two bedroom apartment above the studio. We are thinking the property would be great for our family get away. We caught fish off the dock and it was serene.

We enjoyed the quiet, natural setting and pretty views of the lake. We had one non-rain day and took the kayaks out which was lots of fun. Easy to go back and forth to Bellingham. Kitchen was pretty limited for full on meals but perfect for breakfast and coffee.

Everything about our stay at Rosetta’s studio was amazing. It was clean, comfortable, and absolutely perfect for two. We will absolutely be back!

The studio and lake were just amazing. The studio was clean and well stocked with everything we needed (including extra blankets). It was obvious that Rosetta and her family cherish their getaway and want their guests to as well. The lake is gorgeous and we were lucky to see a pair of bald eagles a couple times, which was an amazing bonus. I would definitely recommend this rental to anyone and am planning on recommending it to my family in the future.

Excellent location. Beautiful. Relaxing. Studio was perfect for me to visit family, the Puget Sound, & Mt Baker. Plus excellent WiFi for remote working. Awesome view of the lake and surrounding forest. Excellent host response when I mixed up the dates of my stay. Cleanliness of the studio was excellent! Looking forward to staying in the studio again!

This was our third time staying at the studio. As always, it was clean and comfortable. There's nothing nicer than waking up in the morning and watching the ducks and geese on the lake while dinking a cup of coffee. Just watch out for the alligator!!!!

Lovely quiet dark spot on pretty Toad Lake. Clean and comfy. Conveniently located just NE of city.
When I arrived, the fire was on full blast (90 setting on thermostatic control) so I had to open door/windows. Heat from the unit above kept it too hot for me at night, 70 or so, and cycling furnace blower woke me. Property manager stayed over in upper unit on my first night, and his pot smoke permeated my sleeping area (studio not 1bedroom) via air/heat vents from unit above. I’m allergic so had to get up and open windows on 35F cold night.
Owner requests keeping outside light on for security, which makes it too bright for sleep, and one small window near bed has no coverings to block security lighting at night, so visitors may want to bring a sleep mask.
Description of unit (“kitchen”, “kitchenette”) is also inaccurate or misleading. No stove or oven, just fridge, sink, microwave, toaster oven, electric fry pan that doesn’t work. Must use outdoor grill (down the stairs) for any stovetop type cooking, not practical in cold or rainy weather.
Kitchen faucet was still leaking into sink and cupboard below sink even after previous guest’s review that reported leak. (Property manager asked me to empty dishpan set to catch water from leak.)
Fragranced linens - too much fragrance for me.
Parking is limited, and spaces are small, so a bigger vehicle could be a challenge.
All else was as described.

Awesome place, great location. Peaceful and only a short drive to town. I’ll be happy to stay there again. There isn’t a stove so we couldn’t cook anything substantial but for a few days it was perfect. Thanks!!

We loved this property, the fire pit was a really nice addition and the tub jets were incredible. The grill was great to have considering there’s no stove, and the electric skillet didn’t work. The kitchen sink leaks if you don’t push down the handle on the perfect spot but other than that, no complaints. Amazing place to stay and I would come back again.

We enjoyed our stay very much at this delightful little cabin. The cozy fireplace was an extra bonus on the cold winter nights. We hope to come back again!

Spacious for a studio, very relaxing spot close to town. We had a great time!

I had a wonderful time staying in this beautiful studio right on the lake, tucked away in and surrounded by nature. It is a perfect retreat with a great fireplace and large windows for taking in the view. Sharon is a very thoughtful and welcoming host, and made sure I had everything I needed for my stay and was very responsive. I would love to stay again!

Comfortable home with everything you need to stay a day or 2 weeks. Don’t forget about the gas fireplace 👍👍
There is also a larger unit upstairs with a larger deck overlooking the lake if you have more people. Just contact the owner.

Emerald Lake Studio was a lovely place to stay! absolutely gorgeous view right on the lake. Short drive into downtown Bellingham to the places we came to visit. Would love to stay again and bring friends. Be sure to check out Ponderosa Beer and Books in downtown as well!

We loved staying here! Beautiful lake front property and very comfortable bed.

Overall, we had a good experience. Cute studio with a great view. The bed was comfortable, bathroom was large and kitchen had what we needed. The only negatives would be that there were other guests in the unit above. This was a little annoying for us at times but all in all wasn't an issue. Also, the upstairs unit controls the thermostat. Again, it was not an issue for us but just something we would have liked to have known in advance. We enjoyed using the peddle boat and the gift basket was a nice touch.

The little bungalo was perfect for the two of us. The convenience of having the kayaks right there was great. We loved the little town of Fairhaven. It was a perfect weekend.

Perfect loveliness. Perfect peace.
Rosetta, I have written an essay about my experience and would love to send it to you.

The studio was clean and neat. We had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay.
The view was gorgeous. We could not have asked for better. The weather wasn’t as cooperative as we hoped, so we were unable to use kayaks or relax on the deck.
Parking was tight would be our only complaint.
Excellent stay- would absolutely book again. Thank you.

We had a great stay here! The lake was absolutely gorgeous. We were lucky enough to have a proficient guitarist as a neighbor in the rental above ours during our stay and we loved the music!
