About this house rental
From the late nineteenth through the early twentieth centuries, this comfortable Victorian served as the region's Ranger Station. Today it is rejuvenated and furnished to reflect its past as a gathering place for locals and visitors eager to hike, hunt and fish among Pikes Peak's legendary forested slopes. Your stay at the Ranger Station will open the door to an earlier time when folks came up Ute Pass to relax among the aspen, mountain spruce and ponderosa, away from the heat and bustle of flatland city life.
The Station's spacious kitchen welcomes you into a real connection with great-grandma, sitting at the table over coffee or tea, chatting and keeping hands busy helping with dinner chores. The dining table invites your family to eat the old-fashioned way--together, enjoying meals with the honest hunger that fresh air and exercise bring on. Food will never taste so good, nor sleep seem so deep and sweet, as in the embrace of this generous old house. In the livingroom, the 100+ year-old fireplace still works, reminding us that summer is only one of Colorado’s mountain moods.
The Station is completely furnished with everything you need to be comfortable on your vacation. The kitchen is set up with refrigerator, oven-stove, microwave, dishes, flatware, toaster -- we've tried to think of all that a good cook needs; there's a barbecue grill and picnic table outside too. Inside, you can relax with a good book or watch a movie from Prime movies and shows, a DVD or, if you must, access your email with hi-speed wireless.
The master bedroom has a queen bed and connects to the main bath.
Upstairs, the America Bunkroom has a bunk with a twin upper and a double lower. If needed, there's also room for a queen airbed.
The Forest Bunkroom has a bunk with a twin upper and double lower. The Campfire Room connects from it with a twin bed. Total sleeping space in the main house is 9. A half-bath serves immediate needs upstairs. A laundry room has a washer and dryer.
At last, you're at your Colorado home-away-from-home, furnished and decorated to awaken in you that feeling described by Gonzo’s song in 'The Muppet Movie':
This looks familiar -- vaguely familiar,
Almost unreal, yet, -- it's too soon to feel yet;
So close to home, and yet so far away--
I’m going to go back there someday...

'What a wonderful cozy cottage – Everything was so comfortable for us. So perfect for exploring this incredible area – centrally located to explore the local sites: Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, Cliff Dwellings and Pikes Peak – also close enough for day trips to the Arkansas River rafting, Royal Gorge and Red Rocks concerts. Our stayed was blessed and we thank you for being humble hosts.' Lise & Dave L.
“We really enjoyed the cabin. It has a lot of charm. The location is great. Thank you for all your hard work.” Jodie & John Day, New Orleans, LA
'Our family was truly blessed to have chanced upon this wonderful cottage! Our son’s Air Force Academy Graduation was even more special by the comfort and unbelievable hospitality and amenities so graciously shared by Happy Trails. The location was ideal for sightseeing yet close enough to the Academy for the week’s events. The memories for the week will include the family barbeques, nightly card games and the beautiful view our family was able to share. Thank you' Mark & Sue R
'We truly enjoyed our stay. Being at a home with everything here already was truly a blessing. Knowing that we all share the hope and love of Jesus was a special perk. The house was comfy, private, a great relaxation 'base of operations' for our family vacation. Staying here put a real nice bow on the top. In Him, Joel, for all the Miles Family'
'Our final night in Colorado - it's been quite a trip! We attended a family wedding, went white-water rafting, and saw some sights we didn't get to see ten years ago when we were here last. It was a comfort to come back to this cozy cottage - all the comforts of home! Thank you for your hospitality - for calling and checking up on us - most likely we will return again. Until then, a warm thankyou from the Walter Family for providing us a safe, lovely place to rest.'
'We have enjoyed staying at your home. It was very comfortable and you have provided all the things we needed. This area is beautiful and we have enjoyed all the sights. It was wonderful to explore during the day and catch up with our friends at night. We were excited to see a bear wandering past the house one morning. We also enjoyed the baby birds in the bird house on the porch. Thanks again for providing such a nice place to stay.' Steve, Marian, Ruth, Rhonda, Dennis & Marie from England, Minnesota & Tennessee
'The house was a great relaxing respite for us during our stay. We are here to have a family vacation while Justin reports to the USAFA Prep School - a bittersweet combination as our first leaves the family nest. We've had a great time seeing the Garden of the Gods, the Academy, Molly Kathleen Mine, Arkansas River white-water rafting, fishing at 11-Mile Reservoir and visiting the hot springs in Buena Vista. We have been busy! We had a great time and have many memories of this week... We'll be back!' The Smith's, Rose's & Walter's

Rustic property shared with 2 orher cabins. Was well worth the price. Saw some turkeys and deer while we were there. The location was perfect with many things to do nearby.

It is an old Ranger Station so the house is old but very clean and very homey. The porch was our fave and we seen a bear! I love the history of the place and we really enjoyed it! You aren't far from town but feel like you are away from everything. Def recommend.

The location is wonderful. Despite the fact that it is located right off the highway, you don't hear much highway noise. Big comfy porch with a nice yard and big trees. Outdoor picnic table and BBQ. Neat old home, too! We stayed with three kids who loved exploring up the hill and there was plenty of room to run outside in the yard also.

Well located property close to main local attractions.
Aaron the host was very responsive.
Was a quaint rustic house.

Summary on line is accurate. We had a great stay and look forward to returning again soon.

This place was just enough away from the hustle & bustle of Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs, but super close for Garden of the Gods, Incline, Pikes Peak, COG, Manitou Cliff Dwellings & Museum, Cave of the Winds, the North Pole, & Broadmoor Falls, just to name a few! Plus the free washer & dryer was definitely a nice surprise for the tail end of a trip with 4 boys in 90 degree heat. Will love to stay again some day.

Great location to go see many different places. At the road for Pikes Peak, 15 minutes to garden of the gods, 30 minutes to the academy, Royal Gorge is an hour trip taking the scenic route. Any communication was answered promptly but we were not bothered by anyone. There is a fantastic restaurant/wine bar across the highway.
The only negative was the highway noise but that comes with the convenience of being able to get places easily.
I would definitely recomend this place.

We enjoyed the house, well equipped and furnished. Did notice some screws on one top bunk bed were lose. Grill could use having a cover to protect it.

We really enjoyed our stay, the location is very convenient and close to many attractions.
The manager is very responsive and helpful.

Our family of four along with my parents enjoyed our stay at the Ranger Station. It was centrally located to Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods and Manitou Springs. The beds were comfortable, the host was responsive and the location couldn't have been more convenient! The stairs were a bit steep and dangerous at the top, but my elderly parents kept the bedroom downstairs and all was fine. We met the groundskeeper, Matt, who was very nice, and gave us advice on places to visit.
Only issues were no extra toilet paper (beyond what was currently on the roll) and there was no hair dryer. If needed, ask for it in advance. Neither issue for us was worth bugging the owner. We would gladly stay again.

That feeling of being at your grandma house.

At the base of Pikes peak is what we wanted for our Camaro trip up the mountain

We enjoyed the fireplace every evening, we cooked most of our meals and found the kitchen sufficiently stocked, great location, close to the pass and Woodland Park

Perfect location for all the surrounding sights!

Place was great, a little tight with amount of stuff we had brought, would for sure stay again,. Owner was easy to get ahold of and very atentative to our needs.

We enjoyed our stay of 3 nights at the Ranger Station. My husband and I like more historic hotels and properties with personality, and this certainly is. It was roomy enough for the 3 grand children to have their own rooms. One of the upstairs bedrooms is a very small windowless room off of another bedroom. My granddaughter chose this space, and she didn't seem to have any issues with it.
The house as a whole was clean. The linens could use some upgrading, especially the towels. They are definitely well worn, but were clean. My 3 grandchildren were quite comfortable, and no problems with wifi strength or access.
The location for access to the various sights in the area is outstanding. Just across the highway is the road up to Pikes Peak (and an excellent restaurant, Wines of Colorado. It actually has a great menu, with some sizeable children's portions, and a nice variety of food and price ranges.)
We would definitely consider staying at the Ranger Station again!

Ranger station
Our stay at the Ranger station was amazing. We were in Colorado for s football camp for my son plus vacation. The cabin was nice, clean, neat, organized. Loved that it was quiet. We did not realize that we shared the laundry room with the other 2 houses but it was never an issue. The north pole park across the street was a fun place to take the kids for the day. One day we explored Manitu springs. There is a walmart about 15 to 20 min either direction. There js so much to see in that area. Colorado is my happy place so we loved the house.

Nice
Nice and quiet but close to everything we wanted to do.

The house was very comfortable, the scenery was beautiful. The location was absolutely perfect. It was just close enough to everything ,yet just the right amount of seclusion to get that country/ camping/ mountain feeling.

Location, location, location
This “Ranger Station” is a lovely cottage with everything we might have needed including easy contact with a responsive proprietor. But the best part is it’s easy access to wonders like Pike’s Peak and The Garden of the Gods as well as a hop to Colorado Springs for groceries or dinner.. Beautiful setting as well.

Very disappointing
No Wi-Fi was the worst, as we had 2 teens that had to do summer school work. Called owner many times. The place needs to hire a better cleaning service, fruit loops under tv and a dead mouse on trap in front of washer.
Spent our time at Starbucks with school work for Wi-Fi access. I have never reviewed before but this owner needs to up his gsme

Excellent location and super clean.
Perfect location for the area. Super clean. Host extremely responsive to messages. We didn't need a thing. Home was outfitted with anything you would need to cook. Super cozy and comfortable. Very clean (had to say that twice). I would recommend this for anyone who visits the area. It is literally across the street from the road to access pikes peak. Short drive to Walmart and grocery store, or fast food. 12 minutes to Manitou springs. Perfect location.

We have 7 kids ages 2-15. This property was great for us and one of the few within our price point that would fit our family. It was so close to everything. We could easily have an adventure in the morning and come back for afternoon naps for the little ones with plenty of time to do an afternoon adventure as well. The kids also enjoyed the old-time cabin feel of the property.

Initial reaction was I made a mistake. However, my wife said we can make this work. Boy was she right. The concerns I had were very quickly taken care of by Aaron. Is was over to the house in less than 1/2 hour and took care of what he could then. The next day he arrived and took care of the rest of the items. He is a very nice person to deal with and advised that this place is still a work in process. His ability to get something’s done has been greatly hampered my COVID19.
Bottom line: I would stay there again and recommend it to you all.
Enjoy.

Loved the porch where we could watch grandkids run around in the field. Also loved how old it felt. Even the floor plan reminded me of my grandparents. We liked our grandkids getting to feel an older home. It would be nice if the owners would leave a history of the property. The house is very convenient to all area attractions. My only complaint is a need for more flatware in the kitchen. We always ran out of forks.

Nice Mountain area. It is somewhat noisy with route 24 close by. Yard is trashy with brush and broken grill and stuff. Owner was very nice and supplied us with a volley ball net set. Yard was too rough with rocks and unevenness to play on though, we played on the driveway.
We ended up leaving halfway through our stay because of a rat in the house. The owner was nice and refunded half of the rent and was very helpful in trying to figure out solutions. He promised to get rid of it and fix any holes and gaps that it could come in. I told him if he informs me with proof he got rid of the rat and all is fixed after we leave I would not write about it in my review but I have not heard anything and its a month later. So just be warned, there might be rats running around.

We have 4 kids (age 3, 5, 7, and 10) and had plenty of room. The kids enjoyed the stairs and bunk beds. Bathrooms were a bit cramped and only 1 shower/tub made things a little difficult. It’s an older home so we didn’t expect everything to be super nice/new, but it could benefit from some updates. It got a tad warm during the day, but cooled off okay at night even with no central AC. The 4th bedroom is essentially a closet with a twin bed and it was too hot for anyone to stay in there.
4.6
This was everything we wanted. It was close to everything that we wanted to do. The cabin is older with lots of character and clean. We absolutely loved it! We saw lots of wildlife and loved the front porch!!

Amazing place to stay! Feels like home. You immediately feel welcomed. The location is perfect!
