About this house rental
'Okika Lani sits at the south end of Kealakekua Bay on a private road with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, the Captain Cook Monument, and crescent shaped, white sand Ke'ei Beach.
Enter the gate at 'Okika Lani and walk into an inner courtyard of Bamboo Palms, orchids, and tropical landscaping. Follow the path to the main house. A reclining Buddha resides on the entry table and greets all visitors when they walk through the front door. High ceilings, an open floor plan, and the sound of waves breaking against the shoreline beckon visitors into this spectacular Hawaiian home.
A wall of glass and sliding doors opens from the central great room onto a tiled porch. It's just a few steps down to the patio, private pool, lawn, magnificent bay and ocean views. Watch the morning dive boats anchor across the Bay at the Captain Cook Monument while taking your local Kona coffee and fresh papaya by the pool. Or marvel at the resident pod of Spinner Dolphins leaping and cavorting in the pristine waters while no one else is around to see.
'Okika Lani was designed by an award winning architect in the traditional Hawaiian style of post and beam construction, vaulted ceilings, and a spacious, open floor plan. A large kitchen, great room, and beautiful master suite all grace this stunning home. Screened lanais on both ends of the house offer airy opportunities for private dining or simply relaxing out of the tropical sun. A substantial master bath boasts oversize shower, walk in closets, soaking tub, and skylights.
A separate guest cottage, accessed from the inner courtyard, also features two bedrooms (one bedroom with a king size bed the other bedroom with two ex long twin beds), shared bath, screened lanai, ceiling fans, and guest privacy.
'Okika Lani represents the epitome of elegance and seclusion amid the splendid tropical setting of Kealakekua Bay. The home's orientation to the sun and the sea make every sunset a picture perfect centerpiece for the perfect day. In the evening, try to catch the green flash of sunset, from the pool, lanai, or great room, and sip the perfect maitai at the end of a perfect day in paradise.
Aloha and Enjoy.

After many years using VRBO, including other vacation rentals on the Big Island, we have to say that this was our BEST VRBO experience ever.
The house is architecturally gorgeous, with the porch looking out onto a perfectly manicured lawn, swimming pool and onto one of our favorite bodies of water in the world, Kealakekua bay. You can see Captain Cook Monument and we woke up to dolphins swimming in front most days.
The property is located in a private community and is hence very protected and quiet. Kealakekua bay is 3 min down the road and Two Step is 15 min the other way.
What really made the experience special was the host and owner, Chrissy. She made the whole stay super welcoming, and went out of her way to help us with a few minor issues that cropped up. She was super responsive to our questions and texts throughout the week. As it happened, Hurricane Hone was on track to hit the Big Island exactly the evening when our flight was due to leave! Chrissy even generously offered to let us stay another night if we were stranded! Fortunately thanks to majestic Mauna Kea’s shelter, we managed to get out on time, reluctantly leaving paradise behind.
Our deepest thanks and Mahalo to you and your family Chrissy, for allowing us the privilege of staying at your stunning property and for being so generous and welcoming!

Lovely home; however, A/C with doors shut all time in bedrooms were good….no AC in rest of house with open windows did not sufficiently cool living area. Guest cottage has no view and to access bathroom you had to walk out on porch. Bathroom in guest cottage had no AC.. very warm even with widows open Perfect house for 1 couple…

So happy the owners are willing to let us stay in this spectacular unique mid century modern Hawaiian home. Architecture is welcoming and unique. This is our third visit. Kitchen upgrades have been made but do not diminish the quality of this home. Just Love this home. Pure serenity. Amazing experience.

Gorgeous home and property! The sunsets were magical right from the backyard. The home and grounds were well kept and maintained. It was a 10-15 minute drive up the mountain to the main road so no quick food pickup but the views from the drive was well worth it for us. We wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle so the quiet neighborhood was a bonus for sure! Spent the days exploring and the evenings poolside watching the sunset with amazing oceanfront views. DIdn't disappoint and was by far the best place we have ever rented!

We loved staying at this house. Everything was perfect and just what we needed for our family of 5. Loved being away from the resorts and town. Be prepared to stock up on groceries because it does take a bit to get to the stores.
Cannot wait to come again!!

We stayed here for a week for my 50th Birthday. The property was beautiful! Everything was just as listed. Only challenge is the internet went out on the 2nd day.

The pictures don’t lie - the house sits on a prime sunset location with a magical sunset show every night - the pool was refreshing after a day of adventures. This house is special for sure

We are frequent visitors to the Big Island and now our focus is relaxing by the ocean with a pool in a quiet private setting
This place was a 5/5 in meeting our objectives
The only issue everyone else thinks the same so difficult to book even a year out
For the hosts a nice problem to have
Thank you for letting us enjoy your home

A lovely home in an area we know well. Exceptional view of the ocean and we saw lots of whales from the garden. Very comfortable and well equipped house.

This was the most magical home my family and I stayed in- Chrissy and Shelley were fantastic and we’d recommend this home to anyone. We’d love to come back!

This was my 2nd of hopefully many stays at this beautiful property. The location on Kealakekua Bay can’t be beat and the home is well laid out and immaculately maintained. The view is spectacular and the pool allows for refreshing dips without having to go into the ocean (which you should do anyway with nearby access). Kayak rentals are a short walk away. If you are looking for a peaceful vacation spot that is away from the hustle and bustle of town and other vacationers, this is the pace!

The property is just as pretty in person as it is in the photos. The house is older, but well-maintained. All of the appliances are updated, we cooked most of our meals there. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need and more. The location was very convenient for us, we have been to the big Island several times, and have stayed all along the Kona side. Staying in the Captain Cook Bay was very relaxing and fun watching the different excursions coming and going. The proximity to Southpoint, Green Sand Beach, Black Sand Beach and volcanoNational Park made day trips, easy! we really enjoyed the pool, did water aerobics every morning and took a swim every night before bed, all while looking and listening to the crash of the waves against the rocks, not more than 20 to 30 yards away, what an unreal experience. The guest house was very comfortable for the couple we were traveling with a little hotter inside they had to use the air conditioning. We never turned it on in the big house, opened all the windows and use screens on the doors. All the showers have been updated and worked very well. The linens on the beds were of nice quality as were the bath towels which there were many. Another thing that was very much appreciated was having lots of beach towels available. The property outside is kept up on a regular basis. The owners and their daughter, that is the property manager, we’re very easy to get a hold of and work with.

This home has everything you need for the most perfect stay: beautiful sunsets, unbeatable views, wonderful private pool, gorgeous landscaping, exquisite decor, a kitchen with everything you need, very comfortable bed, big fluffy towels, over-size beach towels, and privacy from neighbors. Plus, it’s directly on the ocean! This is paradise! We didn’t want to leave!

Nice and relaxing stay here in Kealakekua bay. House had everything to make ourselves at home. Loved the Bali inspired decor on the inside and beautiful landscaping on the outside. It's a bit far from everything but with that you get the peace and serenity of being away from crowds. The house does need some retouching, mainly the furnishing that's been kissed by the salty air. The sunset here is absolutely breathtaking.

Words cannot describe how absolutely beautiful this property is. Our stay was a true tropical paradise! This house is located perfectly- the back yard is private and the only noises you hear are the rustling palm trees, crashing waves, and birds/crickets. The neighbors in surrounding houses were very friendly as we came and went, and the gated community felt completely safe. Our favorite place in the house was the screened in dining area off of the kitchen and we got a lot of use out of the well-kept swimming pool (which was large enough to do some lap swimming in too!). We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a private, non-touristy get away. Thank you so much for letting us stay, we would love to return someday.

This property was amazing. The location and views were gorgeous. The home was very well taken care of and decorated beautifully. It was the perfect place for a birthday getaway with friends. At night we hung out in the pool and watched the palm trees swaying in the breeze with the sound of the ocean in the background. It is exactly what you are looking for when you visit Hawaii.

Where to start? Great secluded getaway for our family vacation, with AMAZING views! Amazing pool! Couldn't get kids out of it! You forget what day it is here! The house was stocked well! Took advantage of the pineapple peeler even!(Little stand on way to house has the best pineapples!) Lots of pool toys and snorkling gear out back. They
Loved the lizards all around,so colorful! All in all we would definitely stay at this house again and recommend to others for a great, relaxing vacation!

We've made a lot of happy memories at this beautiful place. The house is spacious and unique, utilizing the constant breeze from the ocean to cool the air down and it makes you feel more connected to the surrounding nature.
The house itself is perfectly equipped with everything you might need, even for your snorkeling trip or just playing in the balmy water of the pool.
There is one gorgeous master bedroom/master bath in the main house. There are two additional bedrooms/bath in a guest house, to which you walk through a "jungle", we loved it and it suited us well with our adult son.
There is plenty to explore, from kayaking and snorkeling just minutes walking distance to the renting place, or a secluded beach frequented mostly by the locals. We did not see the dolphins, but there was a beautiful seal resting on the beach and some turtles too.
Thank you, Chrissy, for sharing your beautiful family home with us!

Our family has been coming to the Big Island for more than 30 years and we love staying here. We were 3 generations together in this lovely home, surrounded by the sea, bird song and lushness of this part of the Big Island. We loved our time here and hope to return many times again. Mahalo for sharing this special home with us.

Not what it is advertised as
The owners had people spying on us. They have the a/c disconnected in the living room kitchen area. They tell you to open the windows and sliding doors and the ocean breeze will cool it off. 85+ by noon is not cool to us. The beach is not a short walk from the property. No walking where wild pigs are roaming around for us. Very very disappointed, it basically ruined our stay. The only thing good I can say is the sunsets were nice. Definitely not what we paid for it. We are honest good people and were not treated well.

Most beautiful rental ever
We loved this house so much we canceled most of our planned excursions just so we could spend more time on the patio (adults) and in the pool (kids). Bring your pina colada, it doesn’t get any better than this!

Tranquil, exotic and well appointed
This was our third family vacation at this property. Beginning to feel like home. Love the architecture of the house. A mid-century modern tropical masterpiece, just the right vibe for me. We love to cook and there is a great assortment of dishes and cooking essentials. Will return.

Fantastic!!
Incredibly beautiful and peaceful setting away from the heavily touristed areas. The home was simply gorgeous with a great kitchen and many areas to relax in or out of the sun. Great snorkeling nearby. Host was terrific and very accommodating. We definitely want to come back 💚

Paradise on the water
This house and its setting was the perfect version of paradise for a retired mom and dad, two adult children, and one significant other to be together. We have been coming to this Island for many years and, before getting here, had no idea how lucky we were about to be. Beautiful inside and out, great art, birds and geckos in the yard; the only thing between us and the surf breaking on the lava ocean front was the swimming pool and a short sea wall. We felt we were sharing a treasured getaway with the extended family who clearly live here part of the time. No air conditioning needed. With the doors and windows open and the sea air blowing though, it felt like never quite being indoors. A half mile walk to launching a kayak in Kealakakua Bay and 4 easy miles to two step for snorkeling. With that said, this is not the place for you if you want to eat out every night, or drive to the North Kona beaches every day. It is a private place to relax, enjoy the sun, water, and nature, and let paradise surround you in a remote setting. We felt very privileged to be here and it would be a privilege to come back again.

Paradise Found
Words can not express how perfect this house is! The location is amazing and very quiet. Oceanfront viewing of whales, flying fish, and marlin! Walking distance to a beach and a short drive to good snorkeling. It is even more beautiful than the pictures show and comes equipped with everything you could possibly need.

Another lovely stay here.
I believe this is our 4th time to stay here - we keep being drawn back - we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary this year (also our 20th). We love this property, the location, the privacy, quietness, and proximity to Kealakekua Bay. It seems like every time we stay we continue to get lazier and lazier, and just want to sit out back and watch the waves. We think it's wonderful and that it's the perfect place for us to recharge and escape our busy lives. We'd love to return if the owners will have us again!

Our Hawaiian vacation
The property is beautiful and it's much as it was when it was built which gives an insight into Hawaiian building 40 years ago. Beautiful site on a beautiful Bay but you cannot swim in the front of the house because of lava. There is a beach a short ways away which was perfect for snorkeling. The house was well stocked with staples so we did not have to go out and purchase many foods we didn't need. Beautiful sunsets. As the property is located in Captain Cook Off the main Highway it's a very windy road down to the property. There's a small store at the top of the hill which is well stocked. Some of the best small restaurant in the area are right here within a few miles. We were here for two weeks and overall enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful Hawaiian home.

Dream Property
I’ve stayed at a few places on Kealakekua Bay and although they are all nice, this one is my favorite! The location is fantastic and the home and grounds are clean and inviting. We enjoyed lounging in and around the pool and watching the sunsets from the backyard (and from inside the house). The kitchen is well stocked with plenty of pots, pans and dishes and the bathrooms have more than enough towels. Nice conveniences include WiFi, washer/dryer and a dishwasher. The master bathroom is huge with a large walk-in shower, jetted tub, his and her sinks and 2 walk-in closets. We didn’t use the detached 2 bedroom/1 bathroom “casita”, but if we had guests I’m sure they (and we) would have appreciated the privacy. If you want to get off of the beaten path and truly relax, this is the place for you. For nearby dining, I highly recommend Manago, the Coffee Shack, the Keei Cafe and Teshimas. They’re all very different but very good in their own way. We’ve already reserved 10 days next year and can’t wait!

The most amazing home on Big Island
I have been traveling to the Hawaiian islands since 1975, I have visited all five islands. The area where this house is located is void of any tourists, hotels, traffic and the rat race. The area of Captain Cook especially near the ocean is an actual Representative of Hawaiian lifestyle dating back before tourism. If you are reading my review you have seen the photos, it’s actually more amazing seeing it in person. The house has everything you could possibly need. A wonderful breeze as it sits on the ocean, great shade in the afternoon sitting on the covered lanai‘s, air conditioning for those wanting a guaranteed an amazing night sleep. You will not be sorry I guarantee it. One last bit of advice is book it now before it is no longer available for when you want to go.

Truly Paradise
This was our first vacation since Covid and my husband and I wanted a place to unwind and relax since being cooped up from shutdowns. This was the perfect place! The location is amazing, the house is well stocked and there are many amazing food options within a 15-20 minute drive. We both highly recommend!

Stunning - even for seasoned Hawaii visitors
This was our 14th visit to the Big Island and our 20th to Hawaii overall. We've stayed at some pretty incredible properties during this time. None have been like this. The peaceful, oceanfront setting, with the constant surf and birds, was a meditative delight. If you need to recharge your soul, this is the place. The mature structure and gardens give you a sense of peace and belonging. There is plenty of space. The kitchen is well equipped. But you will spend your time on the deck, in the pool or by the water's edge letting the ocean center your being. Sunsets are epic, and on our last full day we were treated to a breaching humpback whale just a couple hundred yards off the shore. This property was magical and we can't wait to go back.

Location Location Location
This secluded resort like property is perfect for a romantic getaway. The unmatched views, soothing ocean sounds, sparkling pool, and incredible sunsets make this property what it is... Incredible.... Gotta' love this location.
The home interior itself is quite dated, really needing a complete facelift and minor repairs to be the five star rental we had hoped for, however, all of the basic essentials are there for a wonderful experience. The very nice owners were great to work with.
Would love to stay again, but in a renovated property.
