About this villa rental
The villa was completely reconstructed in 2011 and improved Feruary 2019.
The house is on a rock, 20m above the ocean and has stairs which create a direct access to the famous white sand beach of Flamingo (the real Flamingo beach, also called playa Blanca).
The entire property is very private and protected against prying eyes. Also it is very safe. All buildings are protected by alarm systems and there are cameras mounted all around the property. We never had any problems!
From the terrace one will enjoy wonderful sunsets and if you are a little lucky you can observe wales crossing the bay. One can also enjoy the view from the inside living area. The big European isolated windows keep 99,9% of UV rays outside.
The house also contains a swimming pool, which runs on very little chlorine. Because of the so called “infinity edge” the pool seems as if it is a part of the ocean, making an almost seamless blend between the swimming pool and the water of the ocean, especially when the winds are calm. The pool also has a raised Jacuzzi attached to it, with a waterfall cascading down into the pool, generating a source of calming sound against the thunder of the ocean waves.
The property also contains two double story units, one used as a guestroom. On the wall right next to it, one can sometimes spot the occasional iguana lying in the sun (usually only in the early morning). On the other one a roof access has been built. From there one can enjoy all the beauty that Flamingo has to offer.
The outside terrace also has a big 50+ inch TV, so in the evening (which comes quite early in Costa Rica), one can enjoy such entertainment without being confined to the inside of the house. On the terrace there are also deck chairs for easy sunbathing whenever one feels the need to.
In general, the house is very open. The celling in the living room is around 8 meters high. Almost every room has big windows which can also be used as doors. In this way, one can generate enough airflow to not have to use the AC. This helps with the acclimatization process and will make ones experience of Costa Rica much more enjoyable.
New we did add another 2 bedroom with king size beds in the mainhouse.
This gives advantages to younger children because they can sleep close to their parents. In total 3 bed rooms are in the main house.
Now we improved the terrace and the pool. Please see the additional pictures.
The pool was modified, size 10m x 3,5m (33 ft x 11,5ft).

We enjoyed our stay tremendously! My siblings and I took my mom for her 80th birthday. We had three couples and my mom. The house was perfect for the large group. Everyone had their own space and privacy.
The view is spectacular!

We couldn’t have loved the house and entire experience more! With 9 people for a week, we never felt cramped but were all able to enjoy each others company in the many living areas. The house was clean and fully stocked and ready for a large group to enjoy. We were fortunate enough to have a private chef and they even commented how incredible the view was despite serving many houses in the area.
The owner/host was very proactive in communicating about the house and even shared tips on local attractions and restaurants to check out! The star of the show was Yessenia though and she was so helpful multiple times of our stay!

From the moment we walked in, we knew this was as good as advertised. Spacious, luxurious, comfortable and beautiful. We put the accommodations to good use with 5 couples in our group. The pool was lovely and the beach was clean and relatively private. Clear instructions for using the oven would be my suggestion, because we could not get it to work. Lots to do within walking distance. We would certainly stay here again.

My family and I would like to thank you for an amazing stay. Yesenia was a sweetheart! Your home is beautiful with breathtaking views of the ocean, flora and fauna. There was plenty of room and space for the entire family. Thank you again!
Best Regards,
Nairi

Rarely do pictures show what you can really expect, and I always read other positive reviews with a little bit of doubt - but in this case the photos, description and the positive reviews are spot on. This is an absolutely stunning property - the house is unique with multiple bedrooms, a separate master casita and separate casita with a kitchen and living room. In addition, the main gathering area and kitchen is beautiful in itself, but then the wall-to-wall windows looking out onto the infinity edge pool and the ocean is just spectacular. The kitchen is well appointed with the essentials including an ice maker.
We spent most of our time out on the back patio area which is cleverly laid out to include plenty of sun, but also plenty of shaded areas. As with all great stays it took until the end of the week to figure out all the tricks of the house - the locks were sometimes challenging the first couple of times, but the instructions left for guest, when read, provided the necessary answers.
When at the villa, you feel really isolated as you cannot really see but the roof of the villa next door when in the back due to all of the beautiful gardens and foliage in the back. Plenty of pretty birds, some of what we would call raccoons that liked to come by in the evenings, and a few small lizards, one iguana and a few crabs but nothing intrusive. The house was well kept during the week by the housekeeper with plenty of towels, etc.
Thanks - we loved it!

Beautiful property with gorgeous ocean views and beach access. House is spacious with plenty of areas to hang out with a large group. Renting golf carts made it very easy to get around town to store and local restaurants

The house was beautiful! The view and the pool was spectacular. We had plenty of space for 7 adults and probably could have easily made room for 4* more. The only thing we wished we had was a better “lounge” area in the living room when we were winding down. Yessenia is a doll! She was extremely helpful and even put us in contact with someone who made us a great dinner one night. Highly suggest asking for Elvin to cook one night. I wish there were beach chairs that we could have took down to the beach too. We didn’t do a beach day and regretted it. Playa Flamingo is not as busy or has a ton of stuff like Tamarindo but we drove a lot so we didn’t mind it. We rented golf carts for one day but after driving to the 3 places they were in range for, we didn’t need more than a day. If you’re looking for a nice house for a group of people, Sunset Villa is it!

We're a group of 7-9 women that travel together once/year - this was our first trip to CR. It was delightful, beginning with the idyllic views and superb outdoor space at the house. Being a big group, we're always looking for places that can accommodate all of us wanting to hang out together simultaneously - the outdoor space is spacious and partially shaded. Just perfect.
Yesenia was kind and anticipated our questions - she took wonderful care of the house but stayed low-key and in the background (also appreciated).
The steps down to the beach (194!) are a bit steep - we rented golf carts and took the drive down to the beach for the days we wanted to go. Well worth the expense.
We did several excursions - ATVs, catamaran, waterfall/rainfrest, coffee farm. All enjoyable and worthwhile.
Our host/owner provided good quality / quantity of pre-arrival information that really helped us plan our trip. He was quite responsive to questions.
This is a country and house to which we would happily return in the future.

My family, 10 of us stayed at the lovely place for 10 nights. It exceeded all of our expectations. The place was as advertised. Many restaurants within a mile. Our only disappointment was how expensive everything was, but that is no reflection on the villa. The housekeeper Yesenia was great and a plus to the experience. She speaks very little English, but we were able to communicate with a translation app. My wife and I have many destinations on our bucket list, but if we were to return to Costa Rica we would stay here again.

We've visited tropical destinations around the world and Sunset Villa ranks near the top. You can't beat the views, visible throughout the property, especially the oceanfront casita if you get to stay there (note there are automated curtains to lower at night if you want to sleep later than 5:30AM when the sum comes up).
If you have small children who need to nap during the day, the other garden casita in the back of the property is perfectly quiet while adults can enjoy music around the pool. The concrete stairs to the beach aren't that bad as some other reviews mentioned if you're in shape. We bought a nice cooler to bring to the beach and left it there if anyone needs one after us.
Yesenia, the housekeeper, visited every other day to change linens and wash towels. There's also a security guard down the street but we never felt unsafe. We tried to take him cold water during the day and he was very grateful. We rented a golf cart during out stay too which was nice for folks who weren't allowed to drive the rental cars we had. Recommend Jennifer from rentagolfcartcostarica.com who can also help with airport shuttles.
Overall I highly recommend Sunset Villa and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

A stay at Sunset Villa should be on everybody's list.
We looked at countless properties for our first trip to Costa Rica and without a doubt, we made the right choice.
Great location with shopping nearby as well as several places to eat we loved Amigos Tacos at the bottom of the hill. There is plenty to do in the area and excursions that range from a couple of hours to all day trips.
The property had the perfect layout for our 2 week stay allowing us all to have our own space and more than enough room to get together. The housekeeper, Yesenia, was wonderful and willing to work with our schedule and Google Translate took care of the language barrier. We informed her of a couple appliance issues and she had them resolved the same day.
I could go on about the amazing sunsets from the infinity pool, or listening to the sounds of the surf, or watching the many different birds while having our morning coffee but I won't. You'll just have to come see for yourself!
Thank you to our host, Dietmar, for an incredible experience and keep an eye out for our next booking. Pura Vida!

The beach is accessible via a staircase equipped with a door that can be locked at night. It can be a bit of a long haul up and down the stairs so be sure you take everything you will want down to the beach the first time. Once on the beach, it’s a short walk down the beach to Margaritaville (<50 meters) and Coco Loco (about 200 meters). It’s about a 5 minute walk to a small grocery store and the Marina (which has a new mall with shops and restaurants). Note: The walk back from the store is up steep hill. For most other places, you’ll need to Uber, rent a car or rent a golf cart.

A group of 10 adults stayed here this past week and what an amazing stay we had!! The house and location were absolutely gorgeous. The house was stocked with everything you could ask for. It was nice that everyone had their own space and could be part of the action or not. Loved the area it was a little busier than what we are used to but it was fun! Rent golf carts they come in very handy! We will be back!

4 couples thoroughly enjoyed the Sunset Villa Flamingo Beach house. Amazing sunsets & Yesenia the housekeeper was a delight! Google Translate made communicating easy with her. She answered all of our questions & kept the house clean every morning except Sunday, her day off. The host's recommendation of rentagolfcartcostarica.com was invaluable for more than just the golf carts. Jennifer got us an incredible chef & arranged excursion shuttles and Chip got us a tee time & electric golf carts to easily handle the steep hill to the house. It would have been nice to have the house AC on prior to our arrival, but Yesenia took good care of us to correct the situation. It was very convenient to have private steps down to the beach & the house property contains a casita or "little house", garage & laundry. It was a wonderful gathering place for our group of 8.

This property was absolutely stunning and very true to all the pictures posted. Would definitely rent this house again in a heartbeat. The staff was also amazing

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sunset Villa and our family spent Christmas there. It was a little difficult to find but we were aware of that. The house manager, Yesenia, was very polite but she doesn't speak any English, so luckily a few of us knew a little and were able to understand, plus she used a translation app at times. We hired a chef service for 2 days who turned out to be wonderful!
There were a few things that we would change or want others to know. There are quite a number of steps to the beach so if you have any elderly people in your group, they would not be able to use these. Also, we would recommend a railing be put in at the steps that go down from the foyer to the kitchen/ den. We were worried about my 89 year old father falling, but instead my husband did. He was ok thankfully.
Like I said, other than these things, the accommodations were wonderful. Also, if you want to rent golf carts, book them a month or more ahead. We tried 2 weeks prior, and there were none. We did rent 2 cars which I would recommend anyway for the roads.

The beauty of the villa makes you want to stay at the villa. We’ve never been to Costa Rica before and we loved it the area of Playa Flamingo was laid back and perfect for us if you want to venture out there was plenty to do. We highly recommend this villa and this area. Sunset Villa is very appropriate they are to die for every night

I cannot stress how beautiful this Villa is. There were times we had to force ourselves to leave - the pictures do not do the property justice. Check in was super easy, we were given a tour and everything was explained to us. The property has a dishwasher and a washer/dryer. As a group of guys, we appreciated the private bathroom in each bedroom. The property is on top
of a hill so I would recommend a golf cart to get around or renting a car. The owner provided us with Word docs with options and suggestions. We were able to easily book everything and everyone was very accommodating. The street had security until 10 pm and across the street is a resort with armed security (we felt very safe). The house is also gated from the street entrance and gated from the beach entrance. When our tour guide saw the Villa, he asked if he could record the outside portion because it was the nicest Villa he’s seen. At the end of the trip, the owner emailed us asking for any suggestions so he can continue to improve the villa. 10/10

Our group of four adults and two teens had a wonderful stay at Sunset Villa. The house was clean and spacious, but by far the best thing about it is the location. Nestled above the canopy and overlooking the ocean, the views from the terrace are amazing. The property is also situated in such a way that it feels secluded, as you do not see the nearby houses.
Yesenia the housekeeper did a fantastic job in helping orient us to everything, and she was very patient as I muddled through in Spanish. One note for those (like me) who are not used to renting large houses such as this one, she arrives in the morning to clean and do laundry and is there for a few hours each day.
House is well appointed. Furniture and beds were comfortable. AC was functional, though it comes with some guidelines that must be followed to keep it workin properly. Ran into a couple minor issues, but Yesenia was out with repairmen within an hour of being notified.
Suggest renting golf carts to get around. Restaurants and the beach appear on a map to be a short walk, but the house is on a hill and nothing would have been an easy walk. The beach in front of the house also isn’t very functional because the water is filled with large rocks, so if you want to swim the better spots are farther down the beach. Note the house does not have an address and drivers we used for grocery delivery and some excursions had trouble finding it even with the directions provided.

Overall, the stay was perfect! Dietmar was wonderful with his communication with me in a very timely manner. The house was ideal for our family of 9 and the view couldn’t have been any better! We so appreciated his cleaning lady also! Beautiful lady and very helpful! I would definitely go back to his house again and again! Thank you!

The house is spacious and the views are incredible with some of the most incredible sunsets we've every seen. The name of the house, "Sunset Villa" is very appropriate. The housekeeper was very accommodating and great to work with. If we come back to northern Costa Rica we will definitely stay at this house again.

Beautiful home with breathtaking view, infinity pool and spa, own access to lovely Flamingo Beach. It would’ve helped to speak Spanish, as our housekeeper spoke little English..so to try to get the lay of the land was difficult. We asked for a chef to cook us a few dinners and her recommendation charged $125/ person, which was out of the question. But that was the only downside. It’s a family friendly villa with all the bells and whistles.. a lovely and safe environment.

The property was fantastic, the view was spectacular. We loved waking up in the morning and listening to the magpie jays, parakeets, and other birds while drinking coffee and watching our kids swim in the pool. The housekeeper was great as well.

We loved this house!!! Perfect layout for our family! Kitchen had everything we needed and the house was clean. The sunsets are unbeatable, you can watch from the house, patio, beach or pool. The house is gated and at the end of the road we felt very safe. There is nothing I would change, we will be back!

Six of us—cousins and their spouses— had a relaxing, wonderful time at this beautiful home at Playa Flamingo. We spent most of our at-home time outside on the terrace, which has plenty of seating, a dining area, a pool and a fantastic view. Yesenia took good care of us, though she speaks no English and we speak no Spanish. We both used translators on our phones, and she seemed to anticipate our needs before we asked, and the homeowner provided very helpful information before we arrived. The house is not easy to get to from the airport, but with his directions and our GPS, we made it with only one minor misdirection. It was a great week, and everyone hated to leave.

Our family of 10, ranging from 2-70, had a fantastic stay at the sunset villa (which, true to its name, featured some spectacular sunsets) and would gladly return in a heartbeat. The property is beautiful, the pool is the perfect temperature at all times, the rooms were clean and spacious, the AC comfortable, the kitchen well-stocked and enormous. Yesenia was sweet and so helpful. The location is perfect, at the quiet north end of Flamingo. The beach itself is lovely.
One thing to note is that if you don't feel up to taking the stairs to and from the beach several times a day (some of us did, others did not), it's quite easy to rent golf carts and drive to the beach, where you can park for free. I'd recommend golf carts or a car anyway to avoid having to hike the giant hill if you'd like to venture into town. We found the electric golf carts handled the steep hills just fine and had plenty of juice to get even the far reaches of Portrero.
Super highly recommend this gorgeous property!

This is a beautiful villa on a gorgeous spot and aptly named. Sunsets were spectacular. The pool was great.
All was as advertised . Dietmar was easy to get hold of but there was not much he needed to do.
The housekeeper Yesinia was attentive and helpful.
We had no trouble accessing the beach. My 88 yo mother managed it quite easily.
We mostly ate in and shopped locally with a golf cart. We had a chef one night and walked the beach to the local restaurant CocoLoco a few times.
A tennis court was easy to access down the road at a local hotel for a small fee.
I would definately stay there again

Wonderful stay. Views are unbelievable! Steps from the home to the beach are bountiful! 186 both ways. Up is a lot harder, but tolerable. Great exercise! There are some maintenance issues that should be addressed. Railing down to the ocean being of concern. As long as you are aware, not an issue. Local chef coming to the home is a must. Fantastic. Great stay.

Really wonderful house - on a scale of 5, this house deserves a 10. There is not one thing to complain about. Made for a lovely vacation for my family.

This villa is situated high above the beach which gives you the most spectacular views of the ocean and the sunset! The pool is right there at your back door when you need to cool off after a day of sightseeing or just reading on the terrace. Yesenia made sure that everyone had everything that they needed each and every day. No stone was left unturned. We felt completely safe when walking around the neighborhood day or night. I highly recommend Sunset Villa!

My family and I had a wonderful stay at Sunset Villa! Everything was fantastic - Yesenia the house keeper was very helpful in assisting us with getting contacts for transportation etc. Great beach access even with all the stairs! More then enough room for the 11 of us, would 100% recommend and hope to return again one day myself!

This house has a wonderful layout with all of us having our rooms and bathrooms so conveniently set apart. The kitchen is really open and you can enjoy meals inside or outside. The views of the sunset are just gorgeous! We had support and all questions answered during our stay, including the best restaurants and sight seeing adventure recommendations. The entire stay brought such comfort and relaxation without having to worry about anything including clean towels for the pool ever day. The pool is very clean and provides a gorgeous view and walking down to an uncrowded beach - feels like you are in a private paradise! We enjoyed and outdoor evening in using the grill provided.

This Villa is absolutely extraordinary. Pictures do not do it justice! Bedrooms are large and beds comfortable. Place was immaculate. Fully stocked kitchen. Large open concept in the main living area. We swam in the Infinity pool and lounged in the hot tub for hours each day. The private stairway to the beach was a great workout for all! We had lunch at a couple waterfront locations, Margaritaville and Coco Loco. The host was great and helped me in ordering our Thanksgiving meal from Coco Loco. It was fabulous with plenty of left overs! Sunsets did not disappoint. I Can't wait to come back again soon! Kim
