We had a fantastic bachelorette trip this past weekend! The house is absolutely beautifyl

Beautiful place. The view overlooking Lake Pepin was amazing, you’ll see barges, tankers and other boats. Great for bird watching. Great layout to the spot. Host was very generous and left a bottle of wine for us.
Would stay again.

Perfect spot for us, two couples and an English setter. Very clean, crazy cool view, and so incredibly private. Lots to see and do within 30 or so minutes. Great amenities. Really enjoyed the screened room downstairs, the architecture, and I’ll say it again - the view.

this is a great property. Very beautiful, deck was amazing. Cottage was very clean, organized. Everything we needed was there.
One negative, the sleeping arrangements. One bed was in a closet. The two beds with the ladder was not used. Two hard to navigate. A great place for 6 adults.

I hate to say it, but I really do not want to say anything nice as I want this place all to myself! This is an amazing home in a beautiful location. I like to cook on vacation and had the most amazing view during my hours in the kitchen. I usually bring all the necessary kitchen items to accomplish the meals I will be preparing but this time I only brought my knives and a couple pans that would be required. The kitchen is outfitted so well I would have been ok without my pans (always want my knives). My husband lived on the deck as much as he could. The home is very comfortable and almost combines the cozy feel of a log home with the magic of a castle. This would be perfect for a large family or a couple families with children. This was the perfect place to get away and just breathe.

The visit was hindered by bad weather, but everything else was outstanding

This is such a special property & I highly recommend staying here! The view is incredible, the home is beautiful & the excellent hosts provide everything you need for a comfortable stay. My family & I had a fabulous time staying here while in the area for a wedding. My thanks again, Rob & Heather, for your gracious hospitality!

We had a wonderful time at the Lions Downe cabin, beautiful and expansive views up and down the river, hot tub for relaxing conversation at sun down, huge kitchen and living areas for having meals and playing games. We hope to be back again!

Beautiful location with a gorgeous view of the
river. The cabin has many nice amenities. They even left us a gift of local cider and wine! Kitchen was stocked with everything needed to cook your own meals during your stay. Fireplace was nice and cozy for the evenings. Hosts were communicative. Hot tub was not heating up one evening but hosts got back to us right away with suggestions on how to resolve the issue. We forgot an item at the cabin and the hosts were kind enough to mail it back to us no charge. The only reason I rated a 3 of 5 was due to an issue we experienced with one of the beds. A friend who stayed in one of the loft beds woke up with numerous bites all over her body. She found a bug that appeared to be a bed bug. We immediately reported it to the host and all guests checked their homes to see if it could have been brought in. Unfortunately, it appears to have originated from the cabin . Host advised they would have their pest control come out to investigate and address it. Upon request, they provided a 50% refund and apologized for the inconvenience. Had it not been for the bugs, would have rated 5 stars. Thanks!

This was our fourth time staying at Lion Downe and it was excellent as always. This year, due to the unseasonably warm weather, we got to try out some of the amazing hiking trails in Red Wing.
The log cabin is unique and that is exactly what we look for in a vacation rental. The hot tub views overlooking Lake Pepin are second to none. The cabin was clean and kitchen fully stocked for our fancy meal making. Communication with the owners is prompt and they are very helpful if needed.

Beautiful place. Owners were very responsive to questions. I wiuld recommend.

My college girlfriends and I meet up for a much needed reunion. The check-in process was easy and the cabin was clean. We enjoyed Maiden Rock Winery and Cidery and had lunch and did some shopping in Red Wing. The hot tub was a nice touch. Great place for a reunion or girls weekend.

We enjoyed our stay at the Lion Downe Cottage! The views are amazing and the vibes inside the cottage are warm and cozy. The hosts were excellent and very responsive. It is essentially just one large room, so definitely bring your ear plugs if you're a light sleeper!

Great place for a family get away. No distractions, beautiful property, large deck with hot tub, huge diningroom table for shared meals and game playing. Large livingroom area with fireplace for gathering.

My husband and I stayed for three nights. We enjoyed the fireplace and surroundings.

Couldn't have a more picturesque setting or gorgeous accomodation for our moms group annual weekend getaway, it was absolutely perfect!

What a unique cabin in a private setting! The view from the deck was amazing! The welcome gift was such a thoughtful touch. I would like to also add that Rob went above and beyond when I left something behind. He not only contacted me by phone call and text to notify me, but also very graciously mailed it to me. Thank you for a lovely stay!

There is no doubt that this property is beautiful and cabin cozy. The view from the deck and hot tub can't be beat. The hot tub was listed as new, however it was not and did not work for the last night of our trip which was a big bummer as that was a big reason we paid the premium price to stay at this VRBO. The hosts also market the property as sleeping up to 13, however charge an additional $25 per person after 1 person, which is very misleading in general and sets a certain expectation. Our group was confused what these additional fees paid for as we didn't feel the place was super clean upon arrival (we swept up many bugs and dirt on the main floor when we first arrived). Also small things like the watered down soap offered, lack of paper towels, etc. that you'd normally find in most standard rentals – that didn't sit well when required to pay an extra per person fee. It wasn't an issue for our group, but it's worth it to mention that all but one of the bedrooms are completely lofted and in an open space. Bedroom 2 is really a loft, with the second bed being in a cabinet. It wasn't a problem for our group, but something to note. Overall, it’s a beautiful property and fun space, but don’t think the price matches the value.

A great place tucked off the road. Beautiful surroundings filled with awesome fall colors/weather. A calm and peaceful place to share with friends and family. A nice big kitchen with a comfortable table that easily seat all of us. The fireplace is epic as it is the overall tranquility of being nestled in the woods & incredible views. Super rolling farmland hills for walking. Fun and friendly close by towns for interesting gift shopping.
Thank you!

The property was very nice and cute. I would recommend my friends and family stay here. The hosts were very responsiveness and the place was very well kept.

My friends and I really enjoyed our stay at the Lion Downe Cottage for a long weekend. We really liked, what we call the 'hobbit room' in the basement. It is like a stoned in 3-season room with screens and comfy furniture. We sat out there quite a while watching a thunderstorm for a few hours. My one complaint is too many bees on the deck, but after all, we are in the woods and bees are part of nature. The other thing I would like to comment on is the beds in the loft are not accessible to 50+ year old ladies, so the bedding situation was a little tight for 8 of us. Otherwise, the cabin is very beautiful, unique, and very secluded. Loved it.

We loved the Lions Downe! There were little things like a nightlight by the toilet, lots of outlets for charging, lots of blankets that were added bonuses. The owners went above and beyond to acquire a wheelchair for us that we forgot to rent! Which made things for my husband a lot easier! We really enjoyed the beautiful view and hot tub!

Everything was amazing! Very cute and dog friendly property with awesome views! Loved it!

This house is such a beautiful gem! We had a girls weekend which was just great! The owners were very prompt in their correspondence and very friendly. Would highly recommend!!!

Lion Downe Cottage is absolutely beautiful!
We loved everything about it, the pictures do not do it justice!
The view from the deck was stunning and we loved sitting in the sun room and just relaxing.
It was secluded and private and peaceful which was exactly what we were looking for.
The owners are very responsive and it was a very easy check in.
Would definitely stay again, I can imagine the fall colors would be breathtaking!

We loved the chalet/rustic wood and stone design of the exterior. The interior was also cleverly designed and fun to explore. Our family enjoyed their stay. The home was well stocked and supplied with kitchen items.
The only drawback was sleeping. With the open design it was easy to hear most of the other people during the night. A problem if you have snorers. Also, with no window coverings, it’s easy to wake with the dawn.

Our favorite escape with all the ingredients for a comfortable and blissful oasis. The huge hot tub with view and lower level magical grotto are fabulous!

This is a beautiful location and a very unique home that has everything you need. There were a few very minor maintenance items, but nothing that impacted our stay or complete enjoyment of the home.
We enjoyed the hot tub every morning, the house stayed cool during the hottest days of the summer, and there were plenty of different sleeping options and places to get away to, if needed.
There were plenty of towels, all the kitchen equipment you need, reliable Internet, lots of good seating, and the property is incredibly private and quiet. It was a great escape from the city with friends, and we visited the towns of Red Wing, Wabasha, Pepin, and Stockholm to enhance our time.
The owners were responsive and provide everything you need through the VRBO site. We will definitely consider staying here again!

This is the most awesome place to stay! You really dont know what you are missing. We did several things in the area but were just excited to get back to the Lion Downe Cottage for relaxation, games, the hot tub and just enjoy the gorgeous view! The welcoming gift was a nice surprise and we hope to enjoy it again in the future! Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your very special property!

Lion Downe Cottage was amazing for our group of 10. The property was beautiful and unique - it made us feel like we were at a luxury fairy tale cottage, with the most beautiful views. We had absolutely everything we needed. The owner was very responsive with the one question we had during our stay. The beds were very comfortable, the showers great, and plenty of towels for 10 people. Even a well stocked game/puzzle room! I cant say enough - we would definitely return here.

We made our second trip to the cottage in the past 5 years. The property owners take amazing care and upgrade the property as needed. We plan to visit again!

Some parts were excellent, others need work. Noticed several maintenance issues and some cleaning issues. For example, the hot tub had dirt in the bottom, likely from a previous customer, and the water in it appeared a greenish color.
It’s probably a fine location for a couple families, but we were a group of 8 seniors on a golfing trip, so the sleeping arrangements weren’t really good. Probably somewhat our fault, but the pictures made it difficult to see that.
The owner was very responsive to our overall issues.

Such an amazing stay! We absolutely loved sitting out enjoying the view. The hot tub, sunroom and deck chairs were fabulous for enjoying the view. There were not any listed sunroom photos but it was my absolute favorite room with beautiful rock wall and furniture that was so fairy tale like. It just felt like a castle room to me. The whole place was so magical with the rounded doors the wood beams and wood used throughout the cottage. The path going to the house and every room was just so fun for me and the group. It was a fantastic experience. The only negatives would be that the stairs for both upstairs and downstairs were a little steep/narrow and not the best for the 83 year old in the group. The adventure layout of the beds worked for the group as everyone was able to get a bed that fitted their needs. The kids loved the ladder up to two of the beds and I had a bed that worked for me. The beds were all very comfortable. It worked as the main group was fine with going to bed and waking up at the same time as it is an open area. It made it more of a group experience though and not necessarily a negative thing that the main area is open concept. The stairs would be fine but with one person at 83 with some health issues I was nervous for him every time on the stairs. The majority of the house was just more magical in person then the photos can fully capture. Both the shower are small and bathroom are a little dated but just a spectacular experience overall.

This house is absolutely stunning, and features one of the nicest views that can be enjoyed from the dining room table, the kitchen, the master bedroom and the deck (and hot tub). It is so peaceful, private and the owners are so kind and excellent at communicating. They left us some really nice welcome-gifts. We’ll absolutely be back!
4.9
The owners are amazing quick communicators and I really appreciated their understanding with navigating some of the booking process. The pictures *do not* do this place justice, the views alone were stunning and worth the trip. Everyone unanimously agreed that the property made us all feel like we were Hobbits. Thank you to the owners for sharing this property with strangers, what an experience!
