About this cabin rental
Within 25 minutes of leaving the CBD, you can be sitting on the bach verandah, gazing at the beautiful wild Cook Strait with only you, the seals and gulls for company. The bach is situated on the South Coast in a bay entirely by itself, nestling at the foot of a Karaka Tree grove. Exellent diving and fishing, enjoy walks along the shoreline or take in the view from the farm tracks above the bay. The Bach is totally off grid, it has solar lighting, gas for cooking and hot water, there is no fridge so please bring ice for the chillybin. Please don’t bring anything that needs plugging in!
The Bach has great views, amazing night skies and an abundance of fresh air so pack a jacket!
Guests with feedback preferred
IF YOU REQUIRE A LARGER BACH, PLEASE CHECK OUR OTHER LISTINGS- HUNTER and JULIET’S BACH.

This is such a special place, thank you to the hosts for sharing! The bach has everything that we needed for a cosy weekend getaway, even extra firewood was provided when we mentioned we were looking forward to sitting by the fire and watching the ocean. We have already recommended this place to friends and will likely be back again. Thanks for having us!

My husband and I stayed here for three amazing nights, the little bach Abigail is something out of a fairytale, like stepping back in time and enjoying the little things life has to offer, the coast was so full of life! Seals basking on the shoreline! Beautiful coastal walks and a cozy little fire keep us warm when we ventured back
When it became stormy, we spent our time huddled up with a book and a glass of red wine by the fire
Was truly one of our best vacations away so far!
I would recommend Abigail to anyone wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of life.
Absolute perfection!
The owners of the property were so wonderful and so informative 10/10 for hospitality

The owners of abigail bay Bach went above and beyond to ensure I had a nice relaxing weekend away. They were very accomodating and helpful - even meet me at the gate to open it when I struggled with the keypad due to my eyesight. Will definitely return 😊

2nd visit. Amazing view, comfy bed, fabulous shower....stars were amazing....saw a whale rear out of the sea and crashed down with such force....so exciting. Loved watching the ships passing at night all lit up. We will be back.

We got really lucky with beautiful still weather and visiting during a time that the beach road was closed to anyone but residents. The bach was comfortable and so nicely decorated. We thought it was a little on the expensive side considering you had to clean and pack out your rubbish at the end of the stay, but the hosts were lovely. They came down to help immediately when there was a problem with the water flow and sorted it without any fuss. Brilliant stay, we will be back!

We needed a break from routine and this getaway was the perfect place - isolated and connected to the coast yet within easy reach. And the host was fantastic in getting us sorted. Highly recommended - and we will be back for sure!

Comprehensively and thoughtfully equiped, different but exciting location, competent 4WD vehicle preferable especially if you want to explore the coast roads, very much weather dependant but as with all of Wellington, when its nice it's very nice indeed.

A very unique place. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best, but did get a walk round the bay. Loved watching the ferries go by, the rugged coastline and feeling like your away from it all....could have stayed longer. Thanks again Andrea and Alex

The bach was everything it said it would be - we cut our trip a day early due to the weather and were concerned with the road on departure but all went OK....cushions on seats inside would be wonderful for these ol bums!! Definately will stay again - :)

We really enjoyed our two nights here. We love Wellington’s south coast so this place ticks all the boxes for us. Extremely clean and well presented little Bach. Everything was there for us and although the weather wasn’t great (to be expected) we were warm and cosy with the cute wee log burner. We even had a visit from the owner with a top up load of firewood, a nice personal touch. Everything in the Bach worked, great hot water system and solar setup. Highly recommended.

A magical place to stay and getaway from the traps of modern life. The cabin was clean and tidy we had everything we needed. The location is amazing, looking out onto the ocean felt like we were alone it was wonderful, peaceful, restful. Good for the mind, body and soul. The sea lions were the icing on the cake. Thank you xx

This place was a perfect getaway. The feeling of remoteness yet a short drive from the city was perfect. Communication from the owners was prompt and their information useful to prepare for our stay. The beach is right out the door and there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy like fishing, swimming and walking. The cabin is cosey and equipped with everything you need. A highly recommended place to stay if you want to disconnect from the network and escape the fast pace of life. We will definitely arrange another stay soon.

Although this is only 15min from Wgtn central, it is a great piece of paradise right beside the coast. With the only vehicles being 4wds going around the coast for a dive, this place is tranquil, isolated and a magic place to get away from the stresses of work and life, we could of stayed here for a week. We will be back!

Abagail Batch is one of Wellingtons best kept secrets. It is off the grid but has all the comforts of home. An absolute stunning view of the South Coast and top of the South Island. Waking to the sounds of Oyster Pickers and retiring to a beautiful sunset makes this our favorite getaway! Looking forward to our next stay.

Unplug, unwind and stare out to sea. We love staying here, our 2nd visit did not disappoint. The Bach is basic, but well appointed, everything we needed, clean, comfy bed, hot water, cozy pot belly stove and seals on the front lawn/ beach. Perfection!

This is the quintessential kiwi bach experience. Lockwood style , studio layout , super cosy and warm in a wild coastal setting. Bathroom and kitchen a bit small and tired but rest is fab. Owners friendly. Lots of great books, walks and historical momentos. Great for sea lovers ( which we are). While it's a pleasant drive to the city, if you pack all you need , you won't want to move for days! ( we cheated and brought a small generator...perfect for charging phones, computer and extra light). Definitely keen to visit again, for much longer.

We loved our stay. The weather was abit of a down fall but it forced us both to unwind and chill which is exactly what we were there to do. Location is breathe taking and only a short ride to the city. 10/10 from me. Would definitely recommend to others

Gorgeous Cosy bach off the grid.
We came back - loved our first visit so much! And were amazed at how cozy the teeny woodburner kept the lock wood cottage in midwinter. Love this place. Saw lots of seals, watched the waves. Splendid location. Cosy flannellette sheets kept us snug ( and hot water bottles supplied but we actually didn’t even need those).
Love this place. Thanks Chrissy and Steve!

AWESOME
Oh my goodness what a beautiful stay we had in a beautiful little bach . A cute little fire going for three days views over the ocean seals in the water what more could you ask for in life. Stepping back and catching up with reality and nature in it’s purest form .
The hosts were fabulous helpful and always there in case you needed anything. We cannot wait to come back.
Kindest regards mark and Margarita
