About this house rental
Thanks for stopping by and welcome to The Dock House!!
The Dock House is a prime spot for family vacations. The lake and mountain panoramic views are exceptional. We are located on pristine Nantahala Lake, which is the second highest lake east of the Mississippi, and one of the cleanest man made lakes in the world. Rising 3000 feet above sea level, the Mountain topography produces mild temperatures in spring and summer. Fall follows with a spectacular display of Mother Nature’s colorful artistry - as the autumn leaves turn brilliant hues of orange, yellow, crimson and gold. Winter has its own allure – providing visitors with a secluded idyllic winter wonderland.
The Dock House was custom designed to fit it’s surroundings and might be the closest home to Nantahala Lake. The deck is a mere 10 feet from the shore line which makes for an easy walk to the oversized dock. Also, nearly every room in the house has a view of the lake, including the master shower, hot tub area and the sauna. The tile and slate selected for the bath rooms enhances the feeling of warmth and serenity that the Nantahala area is known for. The Silestone counter tops and the gourmet kitchen make meal preparation a pleasure! We have spacious decks which are perfect for sunbathing, reading, relaxing and family outdoor gatherings. Our home is also equipped with a big screen TV and pool table. ! The unique 3 master bedroom plan makes it perfect for groups of couples or families alike. The loft has a King bed and a Queen over Queen bunk bed.
The Dock House is truly a unique home. You can tell by looking at how the house blends in with the mountain side. The site was carefully selected for the optimum view and to harvest the magnificent red oaks which were milled into the extensive hardwood flooring and crafted into the beautiful hand rails in the foyer and loft. The post and beam interior was constructed from whole white oak posts and rough sawn white pine beams, which mostly came from the house site as well. The custom designed doors, kitchen cabinets and the one of a kind kitchen table were all hand made from an ancient black walnut tree that was blown down by a storm that passed through Andrews, NC in May of 2002.
The Nantahala area has a lot to offer families who want to create wonderful memories! Entertainment enthusiasts will enjoy the Mountainside Theater, located in the heart of Cherokee Indian Country. The theater is famous for its production of “Unto These Hills”, which is a live re-enactment of the story behind the Cherokee Indian historic “Trail of Tears” journey. Or, hop aboard the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad for your choice of scenic family train rides or romantic gourmet dining. The Railroad also presents a Mystery Theater dinner on select Friday nights. Sports fans will delight in nearby offerings of white water rafting, mountain biking, skiing, and hiking. If you are adventurous you must go rafting down the Nantahala River. It is one of the finest whitewater rafting rivers in the country. And, the Tsali Recreation Area is fast becoming a “Mecca” for lovers of mountain biking. Hikers of all ages will appreciate the world famous Appalachian Trial, which you can pick up with a short drive from home. You also don’t want to miss a drive up to the top of Wayah Bald, which offers stunning views for miles of the Western North Carolina landscape.
So, thanks again for letting us share a little bit about The Dock House with you. And, call or email today to make your reservation!
Best regards,
Michael

10/10 house, property and view!

Great house ,enjoyed family time there.

We loved this property. The house was perfect for 2 families, total of 9. We just loved having coffee on the deck overlooking the lake in the morning and enjoyed renting a pontoon boat and jet skis from the local marina. It’ secluded and peaceful. We definitely be back.

We had a party of 10 ranging from 16 to 78. This place had something for everyone. We brought a 21 ft boat and trailer and while the driveway was steep and daunting at first we were able to back down into the parking are and have 2 cars(mid and full size suv) at the bottom by the house with another mid way down with the trailer in the flat storage area that has plenty of storage for cars and trailer. Easiest way to the bottom is to back down so you can drive forward on your way out although I was able to spin the car at the bottom but only if there is only one car there. The great thing about this property is that it is very close to the lake. Only 27 steps to the dock which in this area is really nice. Dock is large and easy to dock. Room for 2, 20ft+ boats easy. It gets a little hot on bare feet mid day but splash some water and your are good. 3 kayaks there are a great addition. The views are spectacular from the deck, pavilion and every room. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to cook meals. Pavilion is cozy at night and we lit fires there or just hung out in the hot tub or couch. Main floor is great for activities and everythjng is accessible while still providing some separation between the pool table and tv area and the kitchen/dining area. Trash disposal is within a couple of miles as is the marina which is nice if you want to grab a meal, rent boats etc. can’t say enough about this place. Absolutely loved it! Thanks Mike!

A beautiful vacation in a stunning location that created many great memories. I highly recommend this house for a mountain lake getaway!

We recently stayed at The Dockhouse and had a delightful experience overall. The property was beautiful, and the view was simply incredible, making our stay truly memorable. The walk to the dock was simple and we loved that. There were, however, a few areas that could use some improvement to make it perfect.
We noticed a minor leak under the kitchen sink, which was a bit inconvenient. Additionally, the kitchen cabinets and the laundry room could benefit from better organization. A little more attention to cleanliness and organization would significantly enhance the overall experience.
Despite these minor issues, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return next year.

This house is as nice as it looks. Well laid out and clean. Deck was wonderful for jumping off and kayak’s were provided for boating. We did loads of fishing and hiking in the area. The host was very responsive and helpful during our stay. We cooked in all week and loved the kitchen and pool table. Thank you for sharing it with us.

This is a wonderful property especially if you have kids. The views are spectacular from every single room and space. We enjoyed the outside fireplace, the dock and all of the amenities. The kitchen was well stocked and everything we needed was provided. I would stay here again and again.

We absolutely loved our stay. The house is so pretty and well laid out with great amenities such as the hot tub and sauna. It really was one of our favorite vacation stays near the smokies. Property felt nice and secluded while still being within sight of other homes. The national park and the Biltmore were both ~1hr away which was perfect for us on days we wanted to get out of the house. Lovely people and lovely home! Looking forward to staying here again in the future!

I can't say enough about the amazing views from the massive deck and most rooms in the house. It was the highlight of the property.
The house is family-friendly and was equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Bedrooms and family room were very comfortable. The pool table was a bonus!
Nothing prepared us for the steep driveway access and many steps within the home. Our group ranged from 64-74 with some physical challenges. Not the homeowner's problem but something to be aware of.
I recommend future renters confirm with the owner which amenities are operable. We experienced some disappointments. And, not all the furnishings are as pictured (most differences were positive). The rental agreement is extensive with renter obligations far beyond most rental properties.

Our family rented 4 cabins for our daughter’s wedding and while the others were nice, this one was the best and truly home away from home! It was clean, beautiful and had everything you needed. The pictures looked fine, but in-person you will be blown away by the beautiful views and layout of the home. We will come back again!

Gorgeous place and a perfect spot for us to be close to the wedding venue. Views are amazing!!!! Well thought out design. I would highly recommend to anyone.

This house is in a lovely lake setting and it is beautiful sitting on the deck or the dock in the mornings and evenings. It has a rustic decor using very natural materials as shown in the pictures. The master is on front entry level to the lake side. Across the hall is the sauna. There is another bedroom off the entry that opens to a large bath which also opens to the entry. Upstairs is a bedroom that easily sleeps 6 with a full bed and bunk full bed. This has been updated since the photos I see online. These rooms have magnificent lake views. Downstairs is the kitchen/dining with a fireplace. To the left is a living area with a pool table. To the right is the 4th bedroom and a bathroom. The bedroom has a lake view window, but it is on the side of the room. There is a laundry room off the kitchen.
As clearly noted, this driveway is very steep. Might be a challenge for the faint of heart. There are many stairs at this house given it's on the side of the mountain. I think one of our party counted 27 steps from the deck to the dock.
It is so relaxing to be staying in this home. You can view the lake and the outdoor TV from the hot tub. We had day trips planned, or we would have spent much more time at the house.
Groceries are basically 30 minutes away and we picked up necessary items before returning from our first day trip.
We had an issue with hot water-it worked, but was finicky to get started. The owner was on top of it, but the part was delayed in arriving.

This place is amazing! We loved the outside sitting area with the fireplace, TV and hot tub. The convenient location made it really easy to get to the wedding venue.

This property was amazing! Once you get down the super steep driveway, you will be blown away by the view. It’s even better in person.
Property was very clean.
We had a small issue with the hot tub and the owner responded immediately and send someone out that night!
We all want to stay here again.

It was a great set-up for our size group. The layout of the house was nice with the kitchen and living/game room all on the same floor. The steps down to the lake are not too steep, easy to go down and get back up. It has a very nice deck area and view of the lake. Communication with the owner was excellent as well!

This was our family's 5th vacation to the lake and this was overall our favorite house and location. The view is stunning! Most houses are higher up in the trees and have an obscured view but Dock House has direct views all along the back of the house. The location of the house also makes access to the dock very close - only about 2 flights of stairs that are well-maintained. The composite dock is spacious and is in the sun from mid-late morning through the day which allows for plenty of fun in the sun. The outdoor covered area with hot tub is very relaxing. The hot tub is small - its meant for no more than 2-3 people.
Our family enjoyed the layout of the house. The main floor which opens out onto the deck has the kitchen and living area with pool table. Many houses we've stayed in have the kitchen and small living area upstairs with a larger play area with pool table, etc. in the basement. We found that we rarely utilized the basement and really enjoyed having all the living space on the main floor together.
Our kids enjoyed the large 3rd floor loft but note that there is no bathroom up there. They used the 2nd floor master bathrooms which was no problem for us. We used the gas grill several nights - the thermometer on top did not work but it did not affect the grill working fine. The kitchen had everything that we needed to cook but you will need to bring all disposable products with you - aluminum foil, cling wrap, plastic sandwich bags, tupperware.

We've been staying on Nantahala lake for approximately 9 years now, each time we stay in a different house, and each one out doing the other... we reached the pinnacle
Dockhouse by far has been the best house we hade ever stayed in.
The views are the best on the lake
It's location close to the marina is very convenient
The house amenities are incredible.
We came as a large family of 10
And everyone find a place to hang out, from the hot tub to the sauna abs the large dock on the lake.
We cooked in the ample kitchen almost every night.
We had the best time on our summer vacation this year and would stay here again every year if we could

We fell in love with this amazing property. The house is fantastic, very clean, and you could not have better views of the lake and mountains. The lake is so peaceful, and nearby wayah bald is a must-see. Local marina was great. We could not have asked for more. One of our favorite family vacations that we will not forget!

Perfect for family wedding trip. Very much enjoyed the property.

This is the perfect relaxing getaway! There are breathtaking views of the lake from every room. Our favorite part of the house is the extensive back deck that faces the lake. The outdoor fireplace area is also another favorite place to be . Renting a boat from the nearby marina is highly recommended. The lake is so peaceful and serene. We look forward to staying here again!

This lake cabin on Nantahala lake was beautiful. The views it provides are exquisite. The home is well maintained and was a joy to stay in. The outdoor area with jacuzzi was wonderful for us as a family to sit around and talk and enjoy the view. The dock which is new is wonderful and the easiest one by far we have been able to get to compared to other lake cabins we have stayed at. We had a wonderful time. The owner was easy to reach and everything was perfect. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Stayed at the dock house for the 2nd time for our family vacation. This time we got to witness snow! Very relaxing and very accommodating. Even brought our 81 year old Grandma and 14 month old baby to enjoy.

Great location if you want a mountain getaway. Beautiful views. House was clean and plenty of space for 8 people. The outdoor area with the hot tub was our favorite spot!

The Dock House is an amazing property on lake Nantahala. As a family, we have been booking vacations through VRBO for 13 years now and this home was our absolute favorite. The lake itself is a very special place and this home right on the waters edge is breathtaking. The reason this place is our favorite is due to 1)the house amenities - hot tub, pool table, water toys etc... and 2) the proximity to so many amazing things to do. If you like the outdoors this is the place for you. Within 30 minutes is the NOC for whitewater rafting and zip lining, which were amazing adventures. The Lake's End marina has boat rentals and all the water toys you could want. The Appalachian trail can be hiked in many locations near the house (and many other trails). The lake water is pristine so swimming is amazing. And the best part of our week was NO BUGS. We are accustomed to dealing with critters and were really happy to have a week with no bites and annoying bugs to deal with!! Mike was a great host and responded to questions really quickly when we had them. If your goal is to relax, disconnect from electronics and spend time with family in a really spectacular setting look no further than the Dock House.

This property is beautiful. The home is very large and feels spacious. The kitchen is WELL stocked. As beautiful as the house is, the outdoor area is really the pinnacle of perfection. We spent so much free time outside. We rented a boat for the week and enjoyed boating to the marina to eat dinner twice. Overall, a lovely vacation with many relaxing qualities.

This property by far has one of the most beautiful views of Lake Nantahala! Kitchen is well stocked! Decorated very well with lots of exterior deck seating. The outside fireplace and hot tub is a great addition. Lots of steps and the drive way is very steep.

Lake Getaway
The property was awesome! We’ve stayed at another property in the past which was nice but not even close to The Dock House. The view and the ease of getting to the dock was perfect. We will be back.

This house is awesome. Close to the lake, big decks, and great views

Spectacular view of lake and mountains.
Great house design with 3 master bedrooms, great kids bunk room and ample deck with outdoor fire place and hot tub. Only issues that did not deter our enjoyment were; outdoor fireplace did not draft properly allowing smoke to fill the cabana and very steep driveway down to house not for the faint of heart. All in all I highly recommend this house, my grandkids wanted to stay and live there.

Our stay was fantastic. Owner was available for questions during the week. The cottage, especially the master bath, was beautiful. Would recommend and return.

Beautiful home!!
Beautiful home! Stayed with 9 people total and enjoyed every piece of this house! The outdoor area & pool table was a hit with our kids & we were only 30-40 min drive to other towns. Signal is not existent in this area & wifi was a bit weak but we enjoyed that so we could spend time & disconnect with our kids. The house was comfortable & the owner responded quickly to questions. Would definitely stay again! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Nice house but underwhelmed
We stayed here over New Years. Showed up to the house which looked like it had a rush clean job. We found dirty sheets stuffed i a closet. We had 4 kids with us and there were exposed wires all over the house. The oven was a mess and when we tried to cook dinner the first night the house filled with smoke. The fire place out side had a cracked fire box, hot tub had a foul smell and half the guests had a rash a few days later after the stay. We still have not received our deposit back and the owner is unresponsive. Asked for a partial refund still unresponsive. Beautiful location and property just horrible up keep.

We came for the week from Florida to get away from the rush and enjoy Christmas week.
We stayed on the property and cooked, only went out once for lunch.
The view and home itself is worth staying in and not wanting to go anywhere. My Husband and Dad used the Kayaki's to fish every night. As us girls stayed by the fire and enjoyed the hot tub.
The view is truly amazing as well as the home.
Everything u could want and need is there.
Mike the owner was very quick to respond with questions we had regarding the tv, which we loved since there isn't a lot of cell service.
The property is great for a family vacation to unwind and get away from it all to enjoy each other. We already can't wait to come back next year!

Fantastic
My new husband and I had a destination wedding this past weekend and used The Dock House for close family and friends to stay and have a little vacation. The house and view was breathtaking and well equipped. If someone has mobility issues with stairs or steep inclines, there is a bedroom on the bottom floor and you can back a vehicle down the driveway to the level parking area. The driveway is intimidating at first but is manageable and not a big issue once you get use to it. The outdoor seating with a stone fire place and hot tub was my favorite. Lake Nantahala was crystal clear and wonderful to swim in.

Amazing Retreat in the Mountains
We arrived and were blown away with the views and beauty of this cabin. We rented for our family and friends to attend our daughters wedding across the street and celebrate our fathers 75th Birthday. We enjoyed family dinners outside, fires in the outdoor fireplace while playing games and rented a boat locally during our stay. Home included a hot tub and Sauna which we wish we had time to use both. If lakefront, amazing Mountain View’s and relaxation is what you want then the Dock House is for YOU! We were very sad to leave and say goodbye to the plentiful hummingbirds but plan to return for another family adventure!
