About this house rental
AREA:
Our home sits in the middle of five wooded acres in sunny Carmel Valley, just 2 miles from Carmel Valley Village. The property borders the Garland Ranch Regional Park and its Kahn Ranch Addition, allowing unspoiled views and easy access to miles of hiking trails. Surrounded by natural beauty, the property provides a deeply relaxing environment.
The natural beauty of the property is perhaps its biggest draw, but it is also very well located. Carmel Valley Village is only 7 minutes away. There are several good restaurants, a market, and numerous wine-tasting rooms. The restaurants of Carmel are only about 20 mins beyond the Village by car.
HOUSE:
The two-bedroom, two-bath Main House and its detached Office/Studio can comfortably accommodate four to six guests. The charming board-and-batten structures have an early-California style, but large windows and vaulted ceilings give them a rustic-modern feel. The Main House comfortably sleeps four adults, with the option of accommodating children with their parents.
In the Main House, the bedrooms are located on the lower level. One bedroom has a queen bed, and the other has a king bed (convertible to two twin beds). Each of the Main House bedrooms have convenient en-suite dressing rooms, equipped with sinks set in Brazilian granite countertops. There are two bathrooms in the Main House, one upstairs (with jetted tub and shower) , and one downstairs (with glass enclosed shower). Both bathrooms feature limestone tiles and Brazilian granite countertops.
The spacious, well-equipped gourmet kitchen. It has black marble countertops and a six-burner, dual-fuel pro range. You may be surprised at how often you decide to stay in for dinner.
The Main House living room has a comfortable feel with its vaulted ceiling, large windows, ample sunshine, and wonderful views. A fireplace adds to the coziness when temperatures drop.
The Office/Studio, just steps away from the Main House, has a small living room (with seating, writing desk, and TV). A queen bed is available.
SERVICES:
AT&T cell service works quite well at the house. However, those with other providers may wish to use WiFi calling while on the property. We have satellite Internet service and TV streaming.
OTDOORS:
The jetted spa on the deck adjacent to the Office Studio has spectacular views over the oak-studded hills. A soak in its hot water is a real treat.
You can wander in the garden among numerous outdoor seating areas and hammocks, relaxing with a glass of wine and taking in the seasonal bloom of lavender, aloe, lupine, and sage.
GUESTS:
This home is best suited for those looking for a relaxed, refined experience in nature. It is a place to enjoy one another's company in a beautiful country setting, while at the same time being a short drive from the Village and the Monterey Peninsula beyond. We are looking for low impact, quiet guests, as sound can carry in the valley.

Let me start with the fact that we traveled all the way from Florida to stay at this house.
Imagine how we felt when, within ten minutes of bringing in our luggage, my wife, my daughter and I had fleas jumping on us and biting! My wife has worked in the veterinary field for 25 years, so she was acutely aware of the extent of the infestation.
It was so bad that we decided that we couldn't stay in the house.
I immediately notified our contact. I asked them to contact the owner and please ask for a refund, because we needed to look for another place to stay. We sent photos of the fleas crawling around on my leg. As we were standing in the driveway, talking to them on the phone, dozens more fleas were jumping on us. It was disgusting.
The response from the owner Kirsten was that there were no fleas in the house and that the photo that I sent was just old bug bites, and there would be NO refund at all, basically, calling us liars and keeping our money.
We felt powerless, thousands of miles from our home and at the mercy of a property owner that didn't care at all about us or our well being.
No doubt she will refute everything I am saying here because that is her MO. We have zero motivation to be untruthful, all we wanted to do was stay in the house we booked and enjoy our vacation.

This property is remarkable! If you are looking for a fully equipped yet natural escape from it all, look no further. And it is managed exceptionally well. We had a small issue and the property manager was extremely responsive. I can't say enough about how much of a dream experience it was. The only small note I would make is that it is very remote, which we loved and wanted, but driving in and out takes time and confidence navigating a winding, narrow road. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Steve's place was one of 8 properties we booked for Monterey car week. It was the perfect place to house colleagues and retreat from the daily hustle of our event. My only wish is that the team wasn't working so hard so they could have enjoyed the property more!!! Would book here again next year!

The house and the surrounding garden are an oasis of calm. We loved every square inch of it. Parents loved the spacious kitchen, plenty of room to spread out, and privacy of the master suite. Kids loved the hammock, garden, and hot tub.
We all loved the adorable gray fox who showed up in the evening to eat apples out of the tree next to the patio.

We loved this for our weekend away. The updated suite was perfect for us.

What a place!! The property is very comfortable for 6. Immaculately taken care of with high end finishes. The garden is top-top notch. The place is well stocked, including kitchen and activities. Loved the quiet location, with favorite activity sitting on patio listening to birds. Proximity to Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur, etc…makes this a perfect place whether you are looking for quiet relaxing getaway or fun filled mountain/ocean vacation. You will not be disappointed. We are already looking forward to returning

Our stay at Les Restanques checked every box. Communications and check-in with Steve, the property mgr, were quick and easy. The house was in tip-top shape when we arrived—everything super clean and nicely laid out for us. The house and garden were simply charming — sophisticated yet relaxed, and comfortable. The owners have obviously been influenced by their travels and have a wonderful design touch. The views from all directions were scenic and calming— lots of vistas and mature oaks. And the spa on the deck was our first destination each morning! We went to Carmel to shop and be on the ocean one afternoon, but otherwise we stuck close to home. Why would we eave when it was so lovely right there, curled up with a book? We will definitely be back!

Pros:
- We wanted privacy with a 30 minute drive to Carmel and that's exactly what we got. Very private, no neighbors in sight and no noise from anyone!
- Communication with the owner was excellent. They initially had the home listed as unavailable without a 6 night stay, and they lowered that threshold for us very kindly so we could stay for 4 nights. When we had issues with the home the response was immediate, polite, and satisfactory. They came out and helped us at the time requested and followed up.
- Well stocked home. My goodness, they had everything! Even scissors, tape, wine openers, all dishes we needed, robes, toiletries, ample TP and trash bags. Just very, very well stocked.
- comfortable beds. We slept SO well. We want that mattress for our home! Nice and firm, so there were no achy backs. Plus, the layout of the rooms was perfect for our group. One couple and kid stayed in the master cabin and one couple and kid had the downstairs of the main house to themselves.
Cons:
- The home was a bit more... rustic.. than we had been led to expect from the pictures and reviews. That's not to say it's not nice! And it was clean for the most part. But we had a LOT of spider issues. We killed well over a dozen in the home/cabin while we were there. We also found a lot of dead spiders, which means the pest control is working. But the main concern for us was that the master suite cabin had a whole wall of webs and egg sacs behind the headboard of the bed. Our group had to clean out that whole wall and kill about 7 spiders within the first 30 minutes of being there. After that they were more sporadic. And the owner very graciously came out the second morning and re-sprayed the perimeter, inside the cabin and main house. After that I feel like we had far fewer problems. But not none.
-The only other issue we had, really, is that the road to the home is quite difficult. Very narrow and bumpy and winding, and it feels like it goes on for a long time, so most of the 30 minute drive to Carmel feels like it's on that road. Steep hill to the driveway and not very much room to turn around once you're up. The directions to the place were very well laid out in the welcome email, and we didn't have any trouble locating the house. It was just, as I said, more rustic than we were expecting.
All of this being said, I think the house is lovely if you're looking for a natural setting with beautiful views and comfy beds.

Secluded Home with Beautiful Views
This was a very clean and well maintained property located deep in a canyon. Quite a remarkable place to stay. Everywhere around the houses, we saw pristine landscape with no other buildings insight.

Amazing retreat
What a beautiful property. Serene, rustic, secluded but with modern flourishes and creature comforts. Steve is a great host. The house was so clean and well maintained. It was magical. We can’t wait to come back.

It was so relaxing and rejuvenating staying at this amazing property in the Carmel Valley. We spent a long weekend exploring Carmel, golfing, enjoying the coastal views, eating and drinking well, and just enjoying the peaceful vibe at this well furnished home. The home was a great space for multiple groups to have separate rooms and ample bathrooms for privacy. Would definitely return.

Where do I begin! This property is a secret gem, and I’m almost not wanting to leave a review because I know once the word keeps getting out it will be really booked out. My husband and I came for my 40th birthday to get away from the city and we’re able to completely unwind and hike in nature each day followed by a nice jacuzzi dip, and a meal cooked in the gourmet chefs kitchen. Evenings were spent next to the fire listening to music and reading. There is so much to do, and the hosts give you any referral you’d need in their book. The village is darling and Carmel- by the- Sea is such a short pretty drive away for a nice meal out or walk in the village in the afternoon. The amenities are all luxury. There’s no detail missed. The owners of this property have gone above and beyond on the home and the yard. The gardens and outdoor are heavenly. I’m the main living area you feel as if you’re in a glass treehouse perched among the oak trees. All you see is lush greenery out each window.
We are also VRBO home owners and have traveled extensively around the world and we would say this was the top 2 hosts we’ve ever worked with. Steve is very kind and responsive and was so pleasant to work with. We were treated wonderfully. We are coming back in the fall hopefully and taking a couple others with us.

Very Quiet and Relaxing
We greatly enjoyed our stay here. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware for meal preparation. Wonderfully quiet and beautiful location. If I could make a suggestion though it would be nice to have had an outdoor propane heater so we could have dined outside on chilly November nights. We definitely plan to return again.

Living in a work of art
This property is in a very rare category: beautifully blended into its natural surroundings, remarkably well-appointed, with timeless styling and comfort. We slept soundly, ate richly, and relished in the deep relaxation that this wonderful home afforded us. The home feels alive: sun moves across the canyon, bringing different atmospheres to life throughout the day. We lingered on the deck for hours just before and long after sunset, as the surrounding forest crescendoed into a symphony of nightime sounds. The kitchen deserves special mention: the stovetop, plateware, grill, and other amenities are clearly the brainchildren of a seasoned chef and entertainer. Three of my favorite meals of the past year (perhaps longer) all occurred here. (Pro tip: Elroy's in Carmel-by-the-Sea offers luscious organic produce for a reasonable premium.)

We had a wonderful stay at this gorgeous house! Fantastic location- short drive to Carmel and lots of great hiking spots and wine tasting. House is spacious with great outdoor sitting areas (many of them) plus lovely views.

A memorable stay
THE PROPERTY IS A JEWEL IN THE VARMEL VALLEY VILLAGE, TASTEFULLY FURNISHED AND WELL PLANNED. THE SETTING IS QUITE SPECTACULAR WITH UNMATCHED PRIVACY. WE LOVED IT.

We were a group of 4 adults and 2 children. This property was perfect with a cozy adjacent guest house, a beautiful well-equipped kitchen, and very comfortable beds. It was very clean and our 4 year old had so much fun running around the property and enjoying the hot tub. We had a lovely hike with lots of fall colors down at Kahn Ranch. We made a few half day trips out to Big Sur and to see the coast, which was easy from this location.

Beautiful property up in the mountains. The sheets/linens were HEAVENLY. The kitchen is beautiful and garden is splendid. Warning - The road is windy and it takes about 10 minutes to get down the hill, definitely recommend a car that can handle country roads.

Nice property off the beaten track
We had a great stay here. The property is lovely. Its great for a secluded, quiet vacation, with a nice hikes nearby. Carmel by the Sea, Big Sur, or the Aquarium are a bit of drive, but make excellent day trips.

Lovely getaway home in Carmel Valley
As a group of women who regularly come to Carmel Valley, we have stayed in many homes, but this one was a special favorite. The property has been tended with great care, and the strolls among the gorgeous plantings was a highlight. The views from the hot tub were stunning! This is not a large home but it accommodated our group of 5 comfortably and with all conveniences. Highly recommended!

Property Manager-Unprofessional and RUDE
The house itself is very pretty but there are many bugs and spiders in the house. However I did not appreciate the property manager whatsoever. He was very rude and snooty. Completely unprofessional and the worst I have ever seen. Also the house is not mapped out correctly in the description. It says that it is approximately 2 miles from town but what they mean is 2 miles from the little village. Not Carmel itself. I think it’s misrepresented and overpriced for the property.
4.8
Gorgeous spot
We loved every moment, nestled in the canyon. It's a winding bumpy road there, but once you're in the house it's just paradise. Immaculate with tons of character. We hope to be back!
