About this cottage rental
Welcome to Turtle House, a unique Carroll B. Ishee designed home nestled in the woods near East Beach in Ocean Springs. With its angular roof lines, large expanses of glass, different floor levels and decks on three sides, the Turtle House invites guests to be attune to nature. The 2 bedroom, 2 bath house offers a peaceful retreat yet is close to East Beach, Gulf Islands National Seashore, USM-Gulf Coast Research Laboratory and downtown Ocean Springs, a place that has received many national accolades for its livability and beauty. With the decks and back yard, the property is secure for children and pets. The house has room to sleep 6, but plenty of interior and exterior space for entertaining, including an outdoor grill and wet bar. Located on a paved dead-end street, there is enough parking for even the Cruisers. The home is very comfortable for couples and families, and we love pets.

This beautiful house is tucked back into the woods in such a way that you feel like you're in a forest when you look out the many windows. The Turtle house is actually one of the Ishee houses. These houses are almost the stuff of legend in Mississippi gulf coast lore and you shouldn't miss your chance to stay in one. We had a great time and will definitely be back to stay longer!

The location is fantastic. It's really convenient, close to the beach and to downtown. It feels really secluded but isn't. It's a super cool place to stay!

Very impressed with the place. It’s a great getaway location to unwind. We loved the cabin feel and the nature all around.
4.7
It is fine. It is very dated and needs new furnishing.
4.7
Clean, nostalgic and somewhat remote for being
“in town”.

This property was precious. We loved the privacy of it. Very short jaunt to the beautiful beach. Was a little disappointed that the listing had jetted tubs but they were not operational. Overall was very pleased with it. Will definitely book again as we have family in the area.

We enjoyed our stay at The Turtle House! It was further out than I realized, but wasnt bad since the drive was on the coastline! Definitely recommend for a nice quiet area to stay!!
4.7
Great location if you want a comfy, relaxing quiet place to vacay. Clean and well stocked, close to beaches and restaurants. We will stay here again.

Moist but, thats to be expected. Seems like there may have been mice. Wish recycling bins were offered and tub jets worked. Some surfaces could have been cleaner. Overall it was what we needed. Thanks.

It's a really cool house nestled in a beautiful wooded space. It's not easily walkable to downtown, but would be easily bikeable. The outdoor space would a great place to have a party.

Love the property. Bummed out that the whirlpool tub was not up and running. Was really looking forward to that and chose the property based on that.

Such a neat property and location.

Nice private deck and cool space.
4.7
Nice location for our family. Quiet. I was able to walk to the beach and take our pup for a long walk. We look forward to our next trip to the turtle house!

Great property in a good location. Love that it was so private and woodsy. Spent a lot of time outside on the deck. Also loved all the windows in the den.

Charming little cottage, in some disrepair, lots of noise from the AC unit in the bedroom which kept us awake at night, no soap at all in the bathrooms, a little dingy and outlets/light switches out of operation everywhere.
Had to go buy coffee for the machine, and then opening the little creamers (which were all spoiled and expired) and ended up disappointed that we didn't bring our own. All of that, and we still had a nice time in the natural surroundings and walking the beach front and downtown areas. Not in close proximity to any coffeshops or restaurants; on the outskirts of town in a run-down neighborhood. Wish the online listing would have been more accurate. Not for guests who prefer higher end comforts.

Nice and quiet.

Very unique place. We loved it. Secluded, quiet and peaceful. Had everything you would want in a rental.
4.7
Very comfortable and hidden away with lots of dense foliage makes for a private stay in an otherwise established neighborhood.

Loved the house. Lots of step ups and step downs but we got used to that pretty quickly. The dogs loved the back deck and fenced in yard. There are definitely improvements that could be done to the property but I know everything is so expensive these days I can understand why certain things haven’t been updated. Definitely have a mouse problem that needs to be taken care of. Loved the Ocean Springs area and enjoyed our weekend!

Layout gives plenty of space with 2 bedrooms on opposite sides, each with its own bath. Conveniently located.
Home is located at the end of a street. Very secluded. Driving in you have to go through an older neighborhood with homes in varying degrees of upkeep. May be off-putting to some at first.
Couple words of caution...would not recommend this property to anyone with limited mobility as there are steps in the foyer and steps up to the kitchen and bedrooms. Both tubs are very deep making them a challenge for anyone who can't lift their legs high.
Also, anyone familiar with coastal areas knows that high humidity creates challenges with mold. The 2nd bath has a strong moldy smell, so this may not be a good fit for anyone with lung / breathing issues.
The property was generally clean, but could do with a much deeper clean.
We did not encounter any issues with our stay requiring us to interact with the owner.

Hope and Dian were wonderful hosts. Communication was timely and appropriate. The sheets were comfortable; living area very nice; large windows in the mornings were awesome; shower heads and lots of hot water - great; laundry was good plus the laundry room was useful; neighborhood quiet. This is a beautiful home that was once great. It needs a very deep cleaning and possibly updates to get rid of the old dirt. I don't know why the other reviews didn't mention this. Hope offered to deep clean the kitchen while we were there. Since deep cleaning takes quite a bit of time, we declined. The outside lighting in the back did not work. An attempt was made to fix it but couldn't be done and no one followed up. I see a previous review from last September that also mentioned the same problem. The dishwasher door was broken. On our 3rd day there, the mice showed up. Dian brought more traps. Both Dian and Hope apologized thinking the mice came in during recent window replacement. There was evidence the mice had been there for quite some time. Mouse droppings were in the kitchen drawers and oven mits had been gnawed on for nesting material. Towels had also be chewed. Mouse droppings were also found in the spare bedroom on the window sill. After setting our own traps and catching 4 mice, we left a week early and there was no offer to refund part of our money. It's hard to believe that no one else had a similar experience. We will not stay here again and we would not recommend the Turtle House to anyone. We feel that it's very important to be honest on these reviews.

Great place! Great location!

Turtle House is a sweet house surrounded by a lush lot that we enjoyed through large windows because it rained for our visit
Houses that allow dogs are always a little risky but Turtle House smelled great and the furniture is slipcovered. The fenced yard seemed inescapable and was perfect for our guys to explore. We will return!

This was a short girl trip looking for a small town Christmas. We did enjoy our stay and the openess of the home to nature. It is not as close to downtown as we thought however. We wanted to be able to walk from the house to downtown and that was not possible for us.

Very serene and restful atmosphere.

Liked it very much....a few too many stairs for old folks, but all in all very comfortable

Loved it!!! This house is beautiful, private, and peaceful!! A very relaxing place to spend time with family while attending my sons destination wedding and taking in some sights. Planning to come back again next year.

This was the second time we stayed at the Turtle house. It has everything you need or could want. Our only complaint with this property is the yard. I believe we put this in our review last time. There a lot of tree roots and no lights in the backyard, so it is really dangerous at night. The main problem is the fencing. It is in really bad shape and we had to find tree branches and a flower pot to keep our dog from getting out. If those things would get corrected it would be absolutely perfect!
4.7
It was a beautiful place, relaxing, and low key. Beautiful weather and beautiful cars, an overall GREAT CTC 2022. Will be back!
4.7
Nice quiet place. Just a bit out of the way from where we were spending the bulk of our time. Wish there were grab bars in the showers to hold onto. A little rough getting in and out of the high tub for us short folks with bad knees. Also need non slip rugs on the tile floor. Other than that it was nice.

This property was so cute and tucked away. We loved being so close to everything but yet feeling like we were alone and very private. Everything was super nice!
4.7
We love this property. We feel like it's our own and that we've grown with it (first trip was just us, second we brought the dogs, and this third trip we brought the dogs AND our one year old. We have fallen in love with the Turtle House and Ocean Springs!
