Cockleshell Cottage is a lovely little cottage in a quiet, but lovely little part of the south lakes area. The cottage is well equipped, although a couple of things need replacing, (reported this directly to owner). We really enjoyed our stay, walks from the cottage and views looking over the estuary whilst sitting on the balcony. Very peaceful. Relaxing break away. Our main issue was with the price, which went up by 10% overnight! In light of this, although we would love to stay there again, this experience would make us think twice!

Very nice and well maintained cottage with lots of equipment and supplies.
Very nice and well maintained cottage with lots of equipment and supplies. Great view over the small harbour and the beach/sea.
The village was not great, no decent eating places or restaurants, many places not open on Monday or Tuesday. Had to go a nearby Water Ski complex for a drink, the nearest other place (Millom) also not great a bit tired and drab.
Enjoyed the Cottage.

We booked Cockleshell Cottage because it had good reviews but we’re a little disappointed. It does have wonderful views but could do with a bit of a refurb.

A brilliant cottage on the sea front.
A brilliant cottage on the sea front. The cottage is in a quiet little village, but there is a choice of pubs and places to have quick bite to eat. It serves as a fantastic base to explore the surrounding areas with the train station a short walk away, and a walk around the local bird sanctuary is a must, with views over the estuary. The cottage itself has everything you would need and then some.

Lovely cottage, very clean! all facilities included (although it took me a while to find the washing machine hidden in the bathroom cupboard) there was even towels despite it stating there wouldn't be any.

A beautiful cottage overlooking the water with easy access to the beach. The cottage was warm and comfy with lots of amenities making it a home from home. The weather was lovely and the quiet location made it the perfect getaway to recharge batteries. It was well placed to travel to the lakes and Grizedale Forest and discover small unspoilt beaches. Would definitely recommend.

Perfect location.
Cockleshell cottage was every bit what we expected, fantastic views, lovely walks around the area, the cottage was cosy, and everything was provided. It was ideally situated for touring the Western coastal places and for going into the lake towns. It was a shame that the weather was not too good, as we would have liked to sit outside the cottage to enjoy the scenery, but at this time of year we didn't expect much. I would say though, when we left the area, the temperature was 2 degrees, when we arrived home in the Midlands, it was -1 and snow everywhere, so I suppose we had it good in comparison. The only disapointment about the lake district, is it is a total rip-off. Everywhere that you can find a spot to pull in to look at a lake, there is a pay and display machine. The worst one was a visit to Aira Falls, which we were looking forward to, but it was £5 to park for 2 hours, so we just didn't bother. The other problem was the condition of the roads, there are so many pot holes. I am glad we visited when we did, as I suspect that there will be numerous road closures coming up soon and right in the middle of the main visitor season. I doubt that we will return to the Lakes, but if we do, it will be to Cockleshell cottage.I have to thank the owners and the caretaker for the warm welcome to their property.
