Almost Heaven fit our group's needs by providing lodging for 14 of our 22 family in town as well as having a ramp to allow our wheelchair bound grandfather to participate in the outing. The Canaan Valley area is a must visit in the non-ski months to take in the amazing scenery, wildlife, and hiking options. The location was central to many activities for our group including Blackwater Falls State Park, Spruce Knob, Seneca Rocks and Caverns, the towns of Davis and Thomas, and Dolly Sods to just name a few. The family that lives closer to this area will definitely be back again.

Love the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, plenty of linens and towels. Hot tub worked great. Proximity to the slopes at Timberline was fantastic! Main living area and table/ kitchen was suer for our big family group. Plenty of space for the kids to be crazy and play. Also lots of comfy couch space for hanging out.

Great place to stay

Overall, the property is very good. Adequate space for a large group and all rooms are wither King or Queen. It was very clean when we got there. However, once starting to use the home, it was not great. Home needs updated and just plain maintenance. Two of the rooms were missing door jams; there was water damage in one of the bedrooms corner ceiling; one of the master bedrooms downstairs TV didnt work and when we tried to hook it up to the cable, the whole cable outlet fell off the wall and wasnt even connected; there was a lack of towels in some of the rooms; and the kitchen was very poorly equipped. They tell you they only give a starter pack of certain items (which I understand and we were prepared for those items), but dont mention to bring EVERYTHING for the kitchen. There are cooking items and utensils, but nothing esle. Bring everything you will need if you are renting this home.
Again, overall, good home for location and space, just not overwhelmed and could definitely use some care.

We had a great time at this property, it was roomy enough for our group of adults and kids. We loved how close it was to the slopes, so convenient if you want to ski or snowboard.
I do have to dock a star just because of how many general upkeep things it seems like they just haven't fixed. I can overlook some scuffs, cracks, usual wear and tear of a rental. The most obvious inconvenience for us was that several bedroom and bathroom doors don't close/latch/lock or anything (and one doesnt even have the doorknob latch on the door frame, it had been ripped out or something?) so it's obviously not ideal to not be able to close a bedroom or bathroom door with a house full of people.
Overall it was great and we would stay there again! Just hope that before we come back they fix some of the maintenance issues.

Our family spent Christmas here during the coldest days of the year. This home has plenty of space with a nice fireplace to keep us cozy! We liked the large dining table and living room was comfortable for movie watching. Shops in Davis & Thomas were nice to visit. Also d we njoyed ice skating at Canaan Valley.

Stayed here for family reunion- 9 adults, one child and one dog.
This house was likely really nice 20 years ago but has fallen into neglect and disrepair.
This is a brief list of the issues we encountered-
Broken ceiling fan in smaller room 1st floor
Broken oscillating fan
Crack in great room wall
Stained lampshades
Stained towels and sheets of poor quality
Dirty grout
Really old, beaten up furniture
Broken porch swing tucked behind the hot tub
No real mop available to clean up spills (there was a dirty string mop in the laundry which didn’t help)
The positives were plenty of space for a large group and never ran out of hot water.
Otherwise we will be returning to a previous rental in the area. We tried this one since they allowed pets. At this price point Almost Heaven needs painted, deep cleaned, spruced up and new furniture.

We had a group of couples totaling 12 people and it accommodated us well. Very spacious, but close neighbors and not much yard. The house is well equipped and, besides some small mishaps that you'd expect from a short term rental if this size, was clean. Overall, it was a good stay and I'd stay there again if I'm in the area.

We were a group of 11 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs...the cabin was big enough fr everyone to have their own space. We also enjoyed the use of the hot tub. We wished we had more yard space for the kids and dogs. Also it would have been nice to have a 2nd fridge since we are a group that brings too much food but we made it work with the coolers we brought. We visited Blackwater falls and really enjoyed that.

We love this house. It is perfect for our family. There is never enough towels for a family though. House maintenance needs to be kept up. There are cracks in walls there are carpenter ants or termites in dining area. We will continue to stay there as we have been coming to The area over 40 years now.

This property was very enjoyable.
This property was very enjoyable. The hot tub took a little while to heat up, but once we got the snow off the top of the cover, it went much more quickly. We appreciate the plow coming through before our arrival so that we had no problem parking in the driveway. Thank you for leaving additional fire wood next to the front door for use in the fireplace! Smooth transaction and easy check in after hours.

We have stayed at Almost Heaven several times and it is our favorite house to rent. It has just the right amount of space and amount of bedrooms and bathrooms. Love the new kitchen floor.

We had a large group (12) and Almost Heaven was perfect for us. The 6 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms was perfect. There was never a time when someone had to wait in line. The cabin had everything we needed... coffee pots, all the pots and pans for cooking, charcoal grill, fire pit, hot tub, and plenty of seating inside for everyone. From the minute that you book a cabin you notice that the team is going to be amazing. Emails sent out explaining everything. I even decided to add an extra day and emailed them back and they added it right to our original booking with no issues. I would email any questions that would come up about our future stay or about the property and the staff was always fast to respond. Very friendly and amazing customer service.

The house added to the wonderful experiences we had at the wedding and the great memories we will carry with us. We were able to visit with each other in a comfortable, roomy, and pleasing environment. We loved that it was handicap accessible and had bedrooms downstairs. The openness of the kitchen and dining area were great. Thanks for letting us visit ahead of time to see the house. I appreciated the early check in and late check out. Thanks for finding my left behind sugar spoon and sending it to me.

A rental crying for upgrades and preventive maintenance
Picked because of size and location. We rented two homes near each other for about 30 people. Very worn and very dated and no air conditioning. Undersized kitchen for 14 people. We used the other rental for eating, socializing, and hanging out. Best part was good amount of parking.

Nice, small stuff could be 5 easy fixes.
Family reunion brought us to Almost Heaven. Great size for big groups. Large "public" areas. Several things that could be tweaked. Many Outlets dont hold device plugs. The Management Company was very responsive to an outlet change in ADA master bedroom. Thanks for a wonderful time.

Great house but......
This was a great house with wide open spaces; the 6 bedrooms and 4.5 baths suited our family perfectly! There is lots of comfy furniture in the living room and plenty of space at the dining table. The kids loved the hot tub and since we had lots of rain during our stay, they had ample opportunity to take advantage of the Wii/games. However, there are a multitude of maintenance and housekeeping issues that need to be addressed!! The carpets are filthy and disgusting!! There is a handicap accessible bathroom but it has problems! You step out of the shower into a puddle of water because there is nowhere else for the water to go! The stool rocks, and not in a good way! Most of the beds are fairly comfortable but the pillows are old and very lumpy!! Overall the house is dirty! Yes, the sweeping had been done and the counters and sink and dishes washed, but there were spider webs everywhere and the screens were filthy! The porch and back deck were not clean or well maintained. The kitchen cupboards had a sticky feel to them also. So many small things have been let go - like outlets that don't work and burned out light bulbs not changed. This house could be wonderful if a little tender loving care and some extra touches would be applied to make it more inviting and pleasant!

Three Stars Summer, Four for Winter Guests
This home's layout is amazing for large families or groups. Every bedroom has access to a bathroom. The home is beautiful and comfortable. The reasons we rated it a 3 was that no where did it say that there was no A/C. When we arrived the house was probably 90 degrees. As we had a newborn and two toddlers with us, it was stifling. I would recommend the rental agency at least open up the house to air out for summer rentals. There were exposed carpet nails between the living room and kitchen that multiple people stepped on. Several light bulbs were burnt our and switches broken. There was only one setting on the hot tub, the rest were broken. A downstairs toilet was very wobbly. It is a wonderful home that we would consider staying at again, it just needs some TLC to fix some of the minor issues.
