About this house rental

This unique octagonal house sits at tree top level just steps from the ocean on a quiet stretch of white sand beach 4 miles north of San Pedro; away from the tourist scene, but a short walk along the beach to wonderful restaurants, beach bars and a couple of little grocery stores. This is the ultimate location for diving, snorkeling or fishing, or just relaxing on the veranda looking out at the crystal clear turquoise water. There is a spectacular view of the waves breaking over the Meso American barrier reef, the second largest barrier reef in the world. We are a short golf cart ride to the lively San Pedro scene as well as many restaurants and beach bars along the way. We are located at the entrance to the famous (not so secret) Secret Beach road. The Tree House is the ideal spot for a romantic getaway, or for two couples or a small family. You’ll be living in a house, not a resort or condo, with all the comfort and privacy of home. The fully equipped kitchen will inspire you to prepare fresh caught fish and tropical fruit as you enjoy the ocean view. Both bedrooms have queen-sized beds. The living room is a comfortable place to relax and look out at the ocean. It has a couch that folds out to form a queen-sized bed. There is a 26 inch flat-screen TV with cable and multiple streaming platforms, and a Bluetooth speaker for your iPhone. and a landline. We have FiOS high-speed Internet. There is weekly maid service (or more frequently upon request). We have excellent air conditioning but the octagonal design and floor to ceiling windows of this unique house catch the ocean breezes so that our air-conditioning is seldom needed. Rubio, our caretaker, lives in a casita in the back of the property. You have your privacy, but he is there to assist you if needed. His chickens and friendly dogs give the place a homey, local feel. He will help you set up your kayak, or tell you the best places for snorkeling. The staff at Caye Management, our local management company, can answer any questions or book tours. They are available 24/7 in case of any problems. Our next door neighbor Geni at Coral Divers, is a dive master and tour guide. His boats sit next to our dock. Scuba Daze is nearby and can also arrange snorkeling and diving.
We try to be environmentally conscious and use plant based detergent and a minimum of plastic. Our water supply comes from rainwater stored in a cistern on the property. We ask that you bring a reusable water bottle. We provide a bubbler of bottled water to refill it. Please use the reusable shopping bags that we provide. You can swim or snorkel right off our dock. You can also take the kayaks out to the reef to swim and snorkel. Since they are sit-on-tops, it's not hard to get back in from the water. Or you can drive by golf cart to Secret Beach located directly across from us on the other side of the island. The staff at Caye management can arrange a golf cart rental. It is a great way to explore the island.

GETTING THERE:
Direct flights to Belize City International Airport leave from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Dallas, Houston and Atlanta. From there you can take a 15 minute flight to San Pedro airstrip on Tropic Air or Maya Air. Caye Management will book it for you. Or you can take a 30 minute taxi ride to the water taxi terminal and take the water shuttle to San Pedro, an hour and a half ride. A representative from Caye Management will meet you at San Pedro airstrip or the dock and take you up to the Tree House. The cost of transportation to the Tree House is included in the rental.

My stay at the Tree House was wonderful. I loved my time there and highly recommend it. House: the beds were comfortable, the Kitchen had most of the basics and the view of the ocean just off the covered deck mesmerized me. One should note that the water does not get more than waist deep until about 200 feet from shore. Caretaker: Rubio is very responsive but also respects the guest's privacy. He kept an eye on us when we were snorkeling in the nearby reef; he listened for our golf cart and opened the gate whenever we came home, and he made recommendations on restaurants. For a very reasonable price, he would harvest and clean conch and, if we provided the ingredients, he would prepare ceviche. The only negative thing I have to say is about Rubio's dog. He has three large dogs and two are very sweet. The third, however, acts aggressively towards the guests or anyone walking past though to be fair I never saw her snap at anyone, it was all just noise. Location: There are no restaurants within walking distance and just two very small grocery stores. You either need to budget for taxis ($40 to town) or rent a golf cart in order to eat out or go anywhere. Activities: The snorkeling was fantastic and I recommend going to Mexico Rocks over Hol Chan. Note that Scuba Daze will pick you up on the dock. We also really enjoyed Caye Caulker and recommend a day trip. Finally, the Tree House is less than two miles from Secret Beach.

All in all, we really had a good time and are glad we went to Belize and stayed in the Tree House. The best part was the view of the ocean, the ocean breezes and Rubio the caretaker. The Tree House itself is a little run down but we weren't looking for upscale accommodations so it didn't really matter. We advise that they upgrade the window and door screening to keep insects out. The decking on the porches could be redone and the dock boards should definitely be redone. The appliances all worked fine, the kitchen was adequately supplied although sparse on spices etc. We felt a little cheated on the kayak experiences we were planning because the seating in the double kayak was broken down and we really couldn't use it as hoped. We were told that new seating was on its way this Spring. Rubio is a gem - he was helpful in so many ways and offered a sense of security that we appreciated. We were grateful for the timing of our trip because the sargassum grasses were just beginning to wash in at the end of our ten days there. We understand that they can get really bad in the Spring making swimming out front unpleasant as well as a bad smell to deal with. For me, the very best part was sleeping at night with all windows open to feel the breezes and hear the gentle waves - heavenly! We're glad we had the experience but not at all sure we would go back again.

My partner and I spent the first two weeks of February at the Tree House. I also welcomed my two adult children and a son in law for a week. It was exactly as described. It was clean, plenty of supplies, the beds were comfortable. I was a little concerned about having five adults living in a fairly small place, but everyone had a great time, and the size of our surroundings never caused an issue. We felt very safe in the area and enjoyed being a bit further north on the island. Rubio, the caretaker, took great care of us, in many ways. His knowledge of the area was so valuable. We would have had a much harder time getting acclimated without him. He took the two men spear fishing for lobster -which they loved- and even cooked the lobsters for us that night. Delicious. Thank you for everything, Rubio! Opting for a house, vs a resort, is the choice I always make when using VRBO. I want the privacy, and the flexibility a private home offers. I found it very easy to book private fishing excursions, and private snorkeling trips. Mary, from the management company, could not have been more helpful and patient. With three more people coming and going on separate days, she was able to make all the arrangements without a hitch. Thank you, Mary! When I come back to Ambergris Caye, I will be sure to stay at the Tree House again.

What a find!! Treehouse is 30 min (by golfcart) from San Pedro and 30 min from Secret Beach. Perfectly located to enjoy beautiful sunrises and a peaceful stay. Caretaker, Rubio, is wonderful and Caye Mgmt. helped with all pre-stay details. Highly recommend.

The tree house was a lovely place to stay for those looking to enjoy the beauty of Ambergris Cay on their own. We were well taken care of by the owner and management company including rental of our golf cart, arrangement for our flight to the island, and pick up at the airport. Rubio, who lived on the property, was present and accommodating when we needed him, but not obtrusive in any way. The interior of the tree house had everything we needed for a family of 3 including a comfortable living room and well-equipped kitchen (which we didn’t use much). The wrap around porch was fabulous and we spent many hours contemplating the world. The pictures are accurate and the location was terrific for trips to secret beach.

House was really nice, and we loved the location, short ride over to secret beach and not to bad of a ride back to town. It was nice having Rubio there to help out here and there!

Wonderful location, we couldn't have asked for better! The house was perfect. The care taker Rubio was great to give us suggestions on what to do and where to eat and having his dogs there helped us feel safe. The property management team answered all our questions and helped us get things lined up for all our transportation needs and helped us know what to expect and where to go. I would suggest this house to anyone and everyone!

Our family has an amazing time staying at the tree house! Caye management was great to work with and arranged our flight, golf cart rental and transport to the house. Rubio was such a character and so helpful! Our kids loved having the dogs and chickens on the property! The house was comfortable and clean. The location is near the secret beach turn, so a good spot so we could head over there daily. The sargassum was in thick, so we couldn't use the beach or dock area. I am glad we were out of town so it made it easier to get to Secret beach! The house was further north than I expected, but I am glad about that. Overall a great experience!
