This is such a nice spot to get away from it all! The house is quite unique, quiet, and away from everything. Part of the charm of the country is that there isn't a lot around (including stores), so make sure you bring what you need. Our son is huge on space, so we came here so he could look at the stars minus all the light pollution we have at home. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate and we had two cloudy nights. The clouds did partially clear briefly enough on our first night for our son to see a few stars and those were amazing. We had a huge thunderstorm that first night that knocked out the dish. Dawn checked in via text in the morning to make sure we were okay and offered to have her farm manager check on our TV. Dawn responded to me quickly anytime I had a question. The river spot on the property is AMAZING! Perfect for my rock hound husband and son; we all spent hours there hanging out, looking around, and had a picnic lunch. Great little weekend away for the family. Thanks Dawn!

We had a beautiful and relaxing time! The house was comfortable and welcoming. The property was stunning and the kids loved going on a walk and having a campfire. Our host was wonderful. Everything was smooth and easy. Thank you so much!

This property has an amazing amount of potential if a little more effort was added. I missed the fact there was no wi-fi but once I found this out, I figured the kids would at least have TV to relax to in the evening, NOT. There were obviously technical issue with the satellite tv and it took multiple attempts to even get acknowledgment that we had an issue. The owner lives on site but would not answered the door. Prior to disturbing, we had sent several text and voice messages. Checking out the function of the appliances (tv) prior to guests checking in would be a definite plus. There was only a space heater and gas logs. For the main living area where there was patio furniture for seating, the gas logs were sufficient until the heavy smell of gas filled the room. This made us a bit nervous and we turned those off. The bedrooms and bathroom, both without any form of heat, were extremely cold and miserable to sleep in and shower in so consider what time of year you are visiting. Don't be taken in by the horse pictures in the ad. We were told they were just moved out for the Winter, however, after strolling the property, there were no signs that horses had been there in a very long while. A beautiful stable was attached to the cabin that would make a fabulous place for horses but sat empty and in desperate need of repairs. My hope is that this place has a glorious revival in its future but as it stands now, it missed the mark for our family's planned vacation. Oh yeah, thanks for the picture Dawn. :) lol

Perfect place to disconnect
This was exactly what we were looking for for our family vacation. If your looking to get away from life’s screen and technology distractions, this is the place. Our kids loved it too! Wildlife galore (deer, beer, skunk, bald eagle, owl, & more). Great star gazing. Short drive to a private river area. Think camping, but with all the basic essentials you need. FYI, there is no cell service or internet. If you need to communicate, it’s about a 15-20 minute drive for a couple bars.

Nice family property
This was a great place to stay. We only were there for a few nights but it had everything we needed. I just wish we would have had more free time so we could have stayed and enjoyed the property more.

Robbin' s Nest Cabin
We had a wonderful time here and made some great memories. The kitchen was well equipped and there was plenty of wood for the fire pit. The beds were clean and comfortable. Cooling relies on a window unit in the main living area, so the bedrooms were warm at night if you closed the doors. The children enjoyed the swings and the trampoline was a nice surprise. The private access to the river was too steep for our use. In addition, someone was camping there so it felt intrusive. The pictures show a pond and fishing pier, but the water was completely grown over with algae. We were surprised that there were no horses. But overall, this was a beautiful property and we were grateful for the opportunity to enjoy it.

Beautiful farmhouse and countryside!
My wife and I took our kids to this very nicely decorated farmhouse along the James River in Nelson County. The horse paddock is literally right outside to the right of the entrance. Our kids jumped out of the car upon arrival, petted the horse, played with the cats, and ran down the hill and along cow fields to go fishing in the James River. Great kitchen for cooking, a master bedroom and another bedroom with two bunk beds (4 people total), with a great family room and outdoor seating with fire-pit. The views of the night sky are stunning with so little light pollution in the area. Our kids are already lobbying for us to return asap. These are the kinds of hidden gems in the country that one would never know about or even ever get to see if it were not for VRBO. The owners are very kind and helpful. Highly recommended!

Peaceful stay at Robbin’s Nest Farm
A great spot to get away from it all and experience something new. We don’t have a yard so letting the kids run around was a big bonus. They got to see horses, chickens, and the super friendly barn cats. These were their favorite part of our stay. No internet (yet), but that was a good thing for us as we were trying to disconnect from the world. Even though it was a bit cold, we were able to enjoy being outside on the farm. Dawn (the owner) stayed in constant communication with us and helped us make the most of our stay. Her boys cut firewood for us to be able to use the outdoor firepit (we made s’mores). Overall a great stay and I’m sure the kids will be talking about it for a long time!

Family time
We really enjoy the trip with my family at RNF, and the owner was very kind the cabin is also cozy and warm. The only issues we got is that next to us were people working the whole day. But besides that I really recommend this cabin.

Country living is good for the soul
My family had a wonderful 3 night trip to the farm. The quiet (besides the rooster : )) was something we never experience where we live. They had just gotten the 2 most friendliest kittens that my daughter played with every day. The horses were absolutely beautiful and well taken care of. We got to see the chickens and 3 baby chicks. The only time we left was for my husband to ride his motorcycle and we all went to the Jame River state park and went fishing and hiking. We highly recommend this farm to anyone looking to get away!

Fun on the Farm!
For a couple of folks like us looking to unplug and have new experiences, this place was a perfect paradise. We loved exploring all this beautiful property has to offer, including hiking trails in the woods, trekking through the open fields, and splashing around in the water at the riverfront. We made a few friends along the way, as we were greeted by cows, horses, kittens and chickens :) We also made the trip to some local wineries, breweries, and the state park—all within a 40 minute drive along some beautiful country roads. So not only is the actual property excellent, it’s location is as well. Also, it’s close proximity to the state park—an international dark sky certified park—means the star gazing is incredible!! It was also great that it was pet friendly so we could take our doggos along on this wonderful adventure. We look forward to coming back in the future!

Robbin’s Nest is a perfect mountain getaway!!
We truly enjoyed our stay at RNF! The farmhouse is cozy and comfortable! It is perfect for a couple or a small family. Our Golden retriever loved running around the farm chasing deer and chickens. The horses are definitely the best part of the farm!!! I made friends with Beau, a very handsome young gelding! The mountain views are breathtaking! The private beach is very nice and easily accessible. The James River is crystal clear and beautiful! The very minor couple of things to know is if you have a pet remember that the stables can be a bit distracting at night as the acute sense of smell and hearing of a K9 can keep them up at night. The television is a little too high up on the wall and can cause a little pain in your neck but if you’re not into watching tv then that’s not going to be a problem. The last thing I would say is that the horse trailer/camper is not a pleasant scene from the beautiful porch. But we enjoyed looking up at the night sky without any light pollution and listening to nature without the hustle and bustle of the city. You can be certain to experience God’s beautiful creation at it’s best at the Farmhouse! We will cherish ours forever!

Covid Getaway!
Beautiful farm out in the country. Loved staying in the bunkhouse connected to the horse barn! It reminded us of the bunkhouse on Yellowstone. We also loved going down to the river and skipping stones, grilling out, hanging out at the fire pit, petting the horses and family game night. I didn't realize until after I booked that the beds in the second room were all bunk beds but my kids (in their mid to late 20's) took it good naturedly. It is about 45 minutes to Charlottesville and a beautiful drive. Will be back on the motorcycles

Gorgeous farm & amazing river experience!
Absolutely wonderful experience. The property has stunning views and the atmosphere is relaxed and quiet. We brought our dog along who had the time of his life.
The property has an amazing private spot on the river and where we spent most of our time relaxing, swimming, and fishing.
Dawn is a fantastic host! Super kind and accommodating but never intrusive.
It was hard to leave, but definitely going to come back! Will also be recommending to our friends looking for a relaxing getaway.

A true resful escape
An excellent location to escape the mess that surrounds us. Charming , comfortable accomodations in a beautiful Virginia setting
Dawn is welcoming and does a great job of assuring your stay is perfect without intruding - she even alerted us to the birth of her new horse and invited us to stop into the stables and have a look.
If you are looking for a place to get away from it all and recharge - this is the place to do it

Just what we needed
Dawn and Phil are the best hosts. They were laid back, welcoming, and accommodating. We just couldn't have asked for a better stay.
One of our favorite things to do was sit outside and watch the deer and the fireflies and listen to the whipporwil in evenings. So peaceful.

A fabulous mountain & river get away on a beautiful horse farm!
I absolutely enjoyed my time at "Robins Nest". It was so beautiful and away from all the "crazy" that has been going on in life. Dawn was such a gracious host and very attentive to my needs without intruding. The farm was so beautiful!! My dogs loved it and never wore a leash (this is a first.... and they are very old) except at the river!! We had free rain of the property and really enjoyed our walks amongst the horse's and through the barn. And the river was right across the street!! I was sad to go back home, but will definitely come back!!

My new home away from home
Dawn went above and beyond to ensure everything was communicated very well prior to the stay, my family rented the whole property and it was perfect for much needed time away, it is very peaceful , quiet and the views and wildlife abounds, this is a pack everything you need and stay the whole time , you can only short change yourself by not coming prepared, the horses, the deer, the river and the property in general is a gem!! Pair that with people who really care and it’s a great place to stay to get away from the hustle and bustle , I will be a monthly attendee at a minimum!! Thank you Dawn, Phil and all of the team!!

great, private, rustic getaway
Comfortable, clean, eclectic and remote. Halfway between Charlottesville and Lynchburg if you want some more urban activities. Nice open concept, private living space at one end of the stables. The natural wood walls give a warm cozy feeling. Very cool seeing horses and chickens every day. Lots of open space for our dog to run around. We had a great time, even without Internet. Hoping to come back in warmer weather to float the river!

Wonderful getaway
RNF was the perfect spot for a 3 day getaway. We were close to hiking trails and scenic drives yet at the same time close to a grocery store for last minute needs. Dawn was very attentive to our needs -- although we did not have many because the cottage had most everything we needed. Just a beautiful setting.

fabulous and charming
My wife and I and our dog truly enjoyed our stay in this lovely cabin at Robbin's Nest Farm. It's a charming place, the cabin is very clean and has all you need for few days and night stay. The farm has horses and chicken nearby but they will not get in your way at all.
Also, if you are looking for dark skies with no light pollution this is the spot. I took my telescope with me and had lots of fun doing some astrophotography. Although the Cabin and Robin's Nest Farm is far from city light pollution it is very easily accessible with nice roads leads to Wingina and the farm. From the farm, you can also easily visit Charlottesville, VA and Lynchburg, VA.
The property owners were very helpful and checked on us to make sure we have what we need during our stay without being intrusive.

Beautifully rural!
My family enjoyed Thanksgiving at this lovely cabin. It was clean, sweetly decorated and a perfect place to enjoy family time. We played games, walked the grounds petting horses, and loved seeing the stars, especially at the firepit. I recommend wholeheartedly!

Relaxing country side cabin
This place is a cabin on a farm attached to a horse barn. It's very comfortable inside, and the high, vaulted ceilings make it feel even bigger than it is. Amazing star-watching opportunities just out the front door. Lots of space to walk and run around on the farm. We visited a music festival during the day nearby. A really nice family vacation. It could be a romantic getaway too, as the Virginia country side is beautiful. The bed frame creaked more than most when we moved around, but that seems like an easy fix. I bet by the time you read this the very considerate owner will already have changed the bed. Thank you! We had a great time at your place!

Great girls weekend!
Dawn,
Robbin's Nest was the perfect weekend getaway location and we plan to make going there an annual event. We did everything from bicycling to shopping and each evening we ended up by the firepit with a bottle of wine. Thanks for the much needed peace and quiet and we can't wait to come back.
