About this house rental
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Town of Saint Andrews charges a mandatory 3.5% tourism levy that will be added to the Room+Cleaning rates listed here via an additional payment request not reflected in the rates shown here.
Description:
Windrose is a beautifully renovated home, built in 1830, packed with character while offering all of the modern conveniences you’d love to have in a home. The main house sleeps 12 in 6 spacious bedrooms and 4.5 baths. The Master suite has a 4-piece en suite bath. The living room, study, charming sun room and expansive patio and yard allow plenty of spaces for families to gather while also allowing for some quiet time. The beautiful dining room seats 12 with extra seating at the nearby kitchen island. The gorgeous five burner gas range along with double sinks and two available refrigerators make the frenzy of large-group cooking almost a fun experience.
The grounds are surrounded by 6 foot hedges and mature trees giving you unusually secluded privacy for the location. The large brick patio is well furnished with a grill just steps away from the beautiful yard and boxwood rose garden.
The location is spectacular. Saint Andrews offers plenty of beautiful rental options, but none come close to providing this spacious, private property in the heart of downtown. Instead of driving three or four miles into town and looking for parking on busy summer days, you simply walk out the front door and stroll an easy block to the nearest restaurants, wharf, shopping, pub, whale watch tours, museums and Kingsbrae Garden.
Winter rates reflect the fact that there is some winterization that is required on this big old house including window film, insulation and no access to the (cold) sun-room.
NOTE: There is a separate in-law suite in this building this is generally rented to a different party. Please inquire if it is available if you need more space.

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful, historic, very well preserved and restored house in St Andrews. Everything was perfect. There were 9 of us - all adults - and lots of room for all. The kitchen and dining room are large and bright. The kitchen is well equipped with more than enough dishes, pans, etc. The beds are extremely comfortable. The backyard is large and welcoming with deers visiting now and then. The location is perfect - so close to the main street and the pier. The host Tom is extremely helpful and nice. He went out of his way to accommodate us which was very much appreciated. He made a wonderful experience even better. I highly recommend this property - I would go back anytime. One of my best numerous VRBO experiences. Thank you Tom!

Dear Tom,
I cannot think of one other aspect of our stay that could be improved upon! Built in 1825 your lovely home embraced us like a warm hug. Our family of thirteen fit in with room to spare. The beautiful bones of this historic house were untouched, with the modern upgrades ( kitchen, bathrooms, internet) blended in with grace and thoughtful planning. All the necessities for cooking, family meals, television/cable availability were amply supplied.
The large garden with rose maze entertained the children, along with the puzzles and games provided in the library. The generous stone terrace with plentiful cushioned seating invited conversation during the soft evenings. The deer with their fawns provided entertainment as they grazed on the overhanging branches.
We felt honored to have spent such happy hours within Windrose’s embrace. Thank you Tom for allowing us this very special sojourn in the center of St. Andrews. We can only hope to be lucky enough to do it again.
Many Thanks,
The Welstead Family

Great Spot in St. Andrews! Host was very helpful and easy to communicate with. The town is lovely and the golf course is amazing!

House was huge. Beautiful kitchen and dining area. There were no welcome instructions to cover how to light gas stove, where things are located, how to connect to wifi and how the heating works. This was in December and this is an old house with what looks like original windows, its cold. The heat you have to turn on and leave on to slowly hit the temperature where you don't need a sweater and scarf inside. The host was helpful and checked in via text frequently. Any issues were dealt with quickly. Definitely ideal for warmer weather months.

The property was exactly as advertised. Exceptionally comfortable bedrooms. Plenty of space for a large family, and the owners were great to deal with.
The kitchen has been updated with high-end appliances, and the dining room is large and very comfortable. Great location with a very short walk to the waterfront and all main attractions.
The grounds are also very nicely maintained. You can tell that the owners take great pride in this home.

We can’t say enough about how we loved our stay in this magnificent home. Our two families – 4 parents and 5 adult children – spent four days at this wonderful property in August 2022, and enjoyed every aspect of it. The house is enormous, offering six bedrooms adjoining 4 full bathrooms, with a 5th bathroom on the main floor. A large, fully-stocked kitchen opens onto an enormous dining room, which affords great space for morning visiting and happy hour gathering. The living room, den, sunroom and outdoor patio all provide comfortable sitting space options to suit any weather conditions. Every space has been decorated tastefully, carefully and beautifully to suit the style of this historic residence, but without uncomfortable opulence. Everything we needed was provided – laundry facilities, window air conditioning, towels and linens, high-end kitchen appliances, great lighting, ample parking – and the friendly owner, Tom, was attentive and responsive to our needs. Situated just two short blocks from the main intersection of St. Andrews, we were able to walk up and back from the wharf and shopping district in minutes. We highly recommend this property to all St. Andrews visitors. A real gem!

Hard to describe in words how memorable our stay was and how much fun we had. Our 2nd stay in 3 years (on either side of lockdown) and it was worth the wait....!
Perfect spot for 2 families, with teenagers in tow, to settle in for 2 weeks. Enough space in this historic house to never be in each other's way, plenty of backyard and patio space for quiet times when required and dinner (and after-dinner) times together. Frequent visits to the backyard from the local deer community was a real treat. Wonderfully kitted kitchen allowed for a range of meals, including fresh seafood bought from the market in St John, to be prepared together, enjoyed around the huge dining room table, music in the study, board games in the sunroom and the occasional TV watching in the lounge. Space and facilities to cater for every taste - and we hardly even made it to the "ship room". The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and very spacious and with the number of bathrooms, the teenagers never had to wait around.
The town is treasure...! So many wonderful waterside restaurants, little shops to browse around and all the basics within easy walking distance of the house. We ventured around a bit with day trips to the local towns, visits to the local museums, music concerts on Minister's Island and in Kingsbrae Gardens, a memorable whale watching trip, almost daily swimming at Katie's Cove and an "embarrassing" amount of golf on what must be one of the most scenic coastal lay-outs in the country. All up, an absolutely outstanding property in the most wonderful place.
Tom is a pleasure to deal with, happy to help with any info or recommendations and always there when you may need him.
A true gem...for the love of NB, go....!

Very relaxing!
Our group of four couples thoroughly enjoyed all the space this wonderful home had to offer. Beautiful large kitchen, comfy beds, great solarium and lovely yard where the deer visited made for a great getaway. It’s close proximity to the downtown area is definitely a plus. Tom , the owner was more helpful answering any question we had. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.

Absolutely stunning...!
Stunning property in the heart of once of the best and quaintest seaside towns we've ever been to...! The house is beautiful and huge - plenty of space for everybody to chill out, read, listen to music and hang out on the patio watching the wildlife in the backyard. Lovely sunroom, well kitted kitchen. Tom was a perfect host and dealt efficiently with a couple of hick-ups at the outset, mostly caused by our group...! He was very attentive and provided outstanding restaurant suggestions ...and good advice for how to play the Algonquin golf course - an absolute gem on the end of the water...! We had an awesome time!

This is one of the most beautiful and fantastic homes we have ever visited or stayed in! We booked this for our daughter and son-in-law's wedding weekend. It brought together two large families and all of members of the wedding party under one roof. We have many special memories of our time in this awesome house! There was tons of space, beautiful decor, an amazing sun room, outdoor patio and huge yard. There is so much character and history in every single room and space in this house. Somehow the owners have taking the historic aspects of the house and blended them with a stunning modern kitchen and amenities that make this house magical. We highly recommend this rental home and we are all plotting a way to go back and spend more time enjoying and exploring this historic and modernly updated house! The owner Tom was fantastic to work with. He was very attentive, helpful and made our wedding weekend very special! He even had amenities for the grandkids to enjoy. We were very lucky to have the opportunity to also rent the attached apartment which made getting ready for the big wedding day at Ticklebelly Hill that much smoother and spacious. Thanks to the wonderful tenants for sharing with us!

Gorgeous home for a family stay
We rented this property for my family to stay while I got married in st Andrew's. The owner, Tom, and caretaker, Dave, were incredibly friendly, helpful, communicative and made my family feel very welcome. The property comfortably slept 8 adults, 2 tweens, and a couple tiny kiddies for four nights.

This historical property has charmed us all.
This property is absolutely gorgeous. We rented out Windrose with our bridal party, and anytime someone would stop in to say hello it would quickly be followed up with a demand for a tour of the house. The owners have somehow managed to provide the most beautiful updates without sacrificing any of its historical charm.
Location: ~1 minute walk to Water St or 5 to Kingsbrae Garden
Cleanliness: Spotless
Host: Prompt and ready with recommendations for areas around town
Grounds: Huge. Easy to get lost inside the house when first entering. The exterior has a large garden off of the brick patio. Everyday we'd be greeted by a doe and her fawns, it was magical.
Windrose is far and away the best property any of us have stayed in. After the first night we were already making plans to try and come back for a reunion trip. We loved it!

Stunning Home Away from Home!
This property had it all! First and foremost I would like to mention how beautifully this property has been updated but still paying tribute to the age of the home. The fireplaces in every room, the claw footed tubs, the lighting, windows and trim...beautiful! (I could go on!)
We were 8 Adults, 3 Teenagers, and 4 little ones and we had more than enough room to be all together or find a quiet spot to ourselves if we so desired.
They had several items on hand for the little ones that made it so much easier for the parents to keep them entertained.
The only slight negative was the fact that there was no air conditioning on the 1st and 2nd floor so at times it was a little warm. That being said, it has been unseasonably hot and humid which is not the norm. As per the owner's suggestion we would shut everything down in the day and opened everything up at night and used the supplied fans and the house stayed relatively cool. The most heat was in the kitchen when cooking on the gas stove!
The owner, Tom, was wonderful to deal with, very accommodating, attentive and had many suggestions to make our stay one to remember.
We had a wonderful family vacation! Thanks again Tom!

Dream House in St Andrews
If you get a chance to book this home then I highly recommend you do! We had the most incredible stay over our wedding weekend. The kitchen is absolutely stunning and we had a couple wonderful large dinners with family and friends in the beautiful dining room. Everyone was blown away by the space and we had plenty of room for all of our guests in the spacious bedrooms and several bathrooms. The outdoor space was also incredible for entertaining and the entire home felt very private while still being very close to all necessary amenities. The owner was very easy to contact and checked in multiple times throughout our stay to make sure everything was going well. Check in and check out was also as simple as could be. We had the most perfect stay and I would rent this home again in a heartbeat, we are already missing it!

Spectacular Accommodation
Windrose is a beautiful colonial home located within walking distance of the St. Andrew's beautiful and historic main street, the harbour, and the Algonquin Resort where we were attending a wedding. We heard from one of the neighbors that the house had undergone a 2 to 3 year renovation, and it shows. Although the house has been completely renovated, with a beautiful top-of-the-line kitchen and modern bathrooms, it still maintains its historical features. We had four couples staying at the home, and there was room to spare. Not only were there plenty of bedrooms, with en suites, but there were multiple living areas so that each of us could have as much privacy as we wanted to read, relax, etc. We had beautiful weather during our stay and spent a considerable amount of time on the outdoor patio and in the gardens. We had deer visiting each evening. Tom, the owner, was very responsive to any questions or inquiries and was very accommodating, even leaving behind some beer and wine if we became desperate late at night. He recommended a local lady who catered a dinner for us on the first night which was great after traveling to New Brunswick that day. We would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the property to anyone who is traveling to the St. Andrews area.

Outstanding home, well furnished and equipped; great location. Surpassed all expectations.
This home allowed our entire family to live together under one roof while still able to maintain some quiet time and privacy. The large dining room table easily accommodated our large family meals and get togethers. The kitchen was equipped with everything one would want to prepare meals. The morning sun filled the living room where we enjoyed the first coffee of the day. We spent many hours of sun and fun on the outdoor patio - easily able to accommodate our family and a few invited guests. The large backyard and garden space provided room for the young boys to play. The owners provided a number of items necessary for a baby, including high chair, playpen, jolly jumper, activity centre - don't know how we would have survived without them. The home is centrally located and within walking distance of shopping, Kingsbrae Gardens, Algonquin Hotel, and the wharf. We rented the private suite attached to the house for our extended family - a wonderful space! Overall, this home far surpassed any and all of our expectations. It was bright and cheerful, nicely decorated and furnished and provided all the necessities of home. Tom, the owner of the property, was a pleasure to work with. Although we had no need to contact him with any issues, we knew he was available at all times.
After one week this felt like home and we hated to leave.

Beautiful Home
Grand home in the heart of town, beautifully decorated, wonderful grounds, 1st Class accommodations. We held our Daughter's wedding at the Algonquin resort, but wanted to stay "off-campus" for several days leading up to the event. It was the perfect home for family & friends.

Gorgeous home in the heart of St. Andrews
Four generations of my family (ages 8 months to 82) stayed at this lovely home in St. Andrews while we were visiting for a family wedding. The property was clean, well maintained and charming. The patio and gardens were as lovely as the house itself which has been thoroughly updated. The pictures do not lie! The location is perfect. Walking distance to stores and restaurants and just down the street from Kingsbrae Gardens and a fantastic playground for little ones. The owners were marvelous. Our group included 4 small children. Before we arrived they outfitted their home with baby gates, high chair and stroller. And, through our whole visit, they were immediately responsive to any inquiry that we had. Fantastic customer service and I would highly recommend this rental to anyone wishing to visit the St. Andrews area.

Wonderful!
Our family of 4 plus grandparents had a most relaxing and enjoyable stay in St. Andrews the first week of August. The home is everything it appears in the photos and more! The property was very clean and well maintained. Location is fantastic - very close to stores and restaurants but also to Kingsbrae Garden and a great playground for the kids. The owner is very responsive to any inquiry whether for swimming or restaurant recommendations or to advise on recycling protocols. I would highly recommend. Our children loved all the Maritime décor and the adults were pleased with the very comfortable living and sitting rooms. Although very close to downtown, the home is quiet at night. We enjoyed golfing at the Algonquin, a trip to Minister's Island, the sculpture garden at Kingsbrae, the Huntsman Aquarium and just watching the amazing Fundy tides. Thank you!

A lovely home in a perfect location
This is a lovely home, which lives up to the pictures shared on VRBO. The kitchen is great to work in, which we did each night. The bedrooms are all amply sized, with plenty of bathrooms for our large group. The home is walking distance to the main street in St Andrews, you can literally park your car for your whole stay if you choose.
The homeowner is likewise friendly, informative and very responsive. Overall a great experience. We've been doing large family get aways for 15 years, and this was certainly the nicest house we've rented, and St Andrews is a great destination spot.

Absolutely beautiful! 5 star!
We rented this property for our wedding the last weekend of July! The house was absolutely gorgeous. It was very spacious, clean and cozy. We were able to all sleep comfortably in the home and had a beautiful backyard to retreat to! The home is within walking distance to anything you may need. I would have to say our favourite place in this home was the backyard. It was very private and peaceful! We had our photographer come to the house as we were getting ready for the big day and we so excited to see our photos!
We also had a great experience with the owner of the home. He was so helpful and accommodating to us!! Overall we had an amazing stay and are so pleased. We would highly recommend staying at this gorgeous home to anyone! :) this home is truly one of a kind!!

Wonderful old mansion with fabulous upgrades in the heart of St Andrews
We were a group of 5 couples in St Andrews for the Challenge St Andrews Triathlon. The house was fabulous with large bedrooms, modern bathrooms, wonderful gourmet kitchen, lovely backyard patio and garden, dining room that seats 12 and three separate sitting/living rooms. We tended to congregate in the kitchen and dining room as they were so comfortable. The weather was relatively cool but it warmed up after the race and we had a post race party on the patio. It rained during most of the rain and the washer and dryer came in really handy
The house was perfectly situated - an easy walk from the race site, waterfront, restaurants and grocery store. And according to a local history book in the house it is located on the most distinguished corner in Canada.
The place was very clean and well furnished. The owner Tom was very friendly, responsive and helpful throughout the booking, during the time leading up to our trip and while we were in St Andrews. I would highly recommend this house for a large group travelling to St Andrews.

Wonderful Family Gathering Space
My family and I just spent 4 wonderful days in this home. We had a total of 7 adults and 5 children all under the age of 5. The rooms allowed each family to have their own space while benefiting from the numerous gathering spaces throughout the home. None better than the amazing back yard, featuring a beautiful garden, large green space and spacious patio where we ate a number of meals. The gourmet kitchen is just one of the fantastic renovations throughout the home, but the historic feel is certainly still in tact. The location was also terrific as it was a short walk to the town centre. The owners were very nice and easy to communicate with. Thanks for a great vacation.

Beautiful historic house with all of the modern amenities, lovely grounds and perfect location
We booked this property for 5 days for a family gathering. There were 8 adults, 2 young teenage boys and a toddler. The bedrooms are beautifully appointed and the bathrooms have been completely updated. The large living room, library and quiet room on the second floor gave plenty of space for everyone to be together or to find a corner for a peaceful moment. The modern chef's kitchen was perfect for preparing meals for a large group and the adjoining dining room with a large harvest table sat 10 easily with room for more if needed. The weather was warm on the weekend and was perfect for a game of frisbee and soccer on the side lawn and a bar-b-que on the terrace. The location is ideal for walking to Water Street (the main street) to visit shops, have a meal or buy groceries.
We would recommend this to any large group looking for a special experience.
(For a great dining experience try the Rossmount Inn......but book early as they fill up quickly.)

Surprise Birthday Party!
Rented the house to host a surprise birthday party for my wife. It was perfect. We filled it and everyone was very impressed and comfortable. As a Maritimer, I have to say: the kitchen was great for preparing for a group, probably the nicest I've cooked in ;) We had a great time... And, it was the end of January. This is a great place to have a get together with friends and/or family. Already looking for another excuse to rent!
