PROPERTY DESCRIPTION:
The Goat Rock House sits on a bluff along the Sonoma Coast and is uniquely located inside Goat Rock Beach Park, more than one mile west of Highway 1. Our house is about 1 hour and 45-minute drive (73 miles) north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge; 4 miles south of Jenner; 10 miles north of Bodega Bay; and only 5 minutes south of the Russian River Bridge.
As you drive down the winding road and rock formations towards the sandy beaches of the Pacific Ocean, near the mouth of the Russian River, you know that you have arrived at a special place. Our house is one of a small handful of homes that are grandfathered in the State Park and blessed by the park’s sweeping panorama of the Pacific Ocean and status as a natural reserve.
The 3-bedroom house fronts a small road on a spectacular 1-acre oceanfront lot. As you enter the driveway, you will be struck by the sense of privacy offered by the Cypress and Pine trees that border the land. From the living room and kitchen windows, enjoy an exclusive front-row seat and a 180-degree view of the Pacific Ocean and Arch Rock – the dramatic rock formation that photographers frequently use to typify the natural beauty of the Sonoma Coast. As you turn to the southern, western, and northern windows, you will be mesmerized by the park’s beauty, its peacefulness, and the signature of Goat Rock that endears visitors year-round, the incredible panoramic views of the Pacific coastline.
With the Pacific Ocean and the Russian River at its base, this house and its surroundings have something for everyone. Relish a cup of coffee or glass of wine on the deck, enjoy the tranquility offered by the ocean's panorama or revel in the activities offered by the park’s rugged trails, beaches, and river terrains. The house is within walking distance to two beaches directly below: (1) Blind Beach where the Kortum Trail begins and (2) Goat Rock Beach as defined by the isthmus and the mouth of the Russian River.
We are less than an hour's drive to the award-winning Pinot Noir vineyards of the Russian River backcountry, the new appellation of Fort Ross, and the town of Healdsburg. Whether you choose to do a little or a lot, you will find yourself coming back to Goat Rock.

New counter-height dining table and waterfall seats are ideally set up for staring at the ocean. The beds and pillows are covered by quality linens and allergen-proof liners. WILDLIFE AND ACTIVITIES (INSIDE PARK)
The Goat Rock State Park is located more than a mile west of Highway 1, far from the glare of ambient lights, and separated from the small town of nearby Jenner by both the Russian River estuary and the Goat Hill peninsula. As a result, on a clear night, the house offers some of the darkest night skies and unbelievable opportunities for star gazing and night photography.
Besides its two beaches, the Goat Rock State Park offers many miles of walking trails, including the Kortum Trail and the western section of the Pomo Canyon Trail. These trails lead you to ocean vistas, wind-swept grasslands, wildlife, and faunas. The unique rock formations along the Kortum Trail near the park’s entrance are used by rock climbers for a wide variety of climbing challenges.
The Park has also earned the distinction as a wildlife refuge -- home to a variety of migrating birds and, between mid-February and August, a colony of quiet, state-protected harbor seals and their nurseries. During weekends, the small road in front of the house can be popular as visitors drive to the estuary. When the park closes at sunset, relish the privacy that only a state park preserve can provide. Turn off the lights, step onto the front deck and hear the roar of the ocean below. On a clear night, see the shimmers of a dark night sky stretch across the ocean’s horizon.
ACTIVITIES OUTSIDE PARK
Outside of the Park, you are a 5-mins drive from the Willow Pass Trail; 15-mins drive from the start of the Pomo Canyon Trail; 20-mins drive from the trails at Bodega Head and also, to the Bird Walk Trail in Bodega Bay; 35 mins from the start of the advanced bike ride up King Ridge Road, and 40-mins from the Armstrong Redwood State Natural Reserve in Guerneville.
Enjoy bird-watching, canoeing, and fishing (upriver from Russian River Bridge). October begins the small Steelhead run; November begins the larger Steelhead run that would continue to April. Occasionally, some of our guests have spotted whales from our deck. Whale migration southward begins from mid-November through April.
For the northern coast of California, expect unpredictable weather during certain times of the year (especially spring and summer), when the coast can have a 30F degree drop in temperature within a day. On days like this, we recommend that guests explore inland, where temperatures can be 10 to 15F degrees warmer. The house is about 30-mins drive from zipline activities in a redwood valley of Forestville, delightful general stores of Valley Ford and Duncans Mills, a gourmet deli in the Korbel Champagne House, famous loaves of bread from Wild Flour Bread in Freestone, and many fine restaurants in Jenner, Bodega Bay (1-Michelin star), and Guerneville.
About 30 mins drive lies the start of several award-winning Pinot Noir vineyards along River Road and Sonoma’s back roads. Add another 15 mins and you reach the lovely town of Healdsburg, from which to explore Alexander Valley. Sonoma County was named among the top 20 travel destinations in the world by Forbes and Frommer's for 2020.

My family had such a wonderful time here. Words can’t describe how beautiful the view is when it’s clear. And the house felt very cozy. Highly, highly recommend if you’re staying in this area.

Dave and Meghan were so helpful with our stay.
The pictures don't due it justice.
House was clean and well taken care of.
Wifi is spotty but we wamted to send pictures otherwise we wwre off our phones.
It feels like this particular location is untouched even though with the beach access down below the house was quite busy with it being a holiday week.
We're definitely going back!
Brian.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The place is magnificent situated perfectly nestled in the wide open park overlooking the ocean and felt very private. We enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the sunset and the ocean waves. We enjoyed walks along the beach and in the hiking trails. Perfect place for relaxation. Great restaurant places are a very short drive away and they had seemingly every amenity available in the kitchen for our stay to be comfortable. Dave and Megan were very helpful if we needed anything and were very gracious and kind. We will absolutely love to stay here again. Thank you so much!!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at a vacation rental overlooking the ocean, and I couldn't be more delighted with my experience. The place was fantastic, offering an incredible view that took my breath away every morning. The sound of the waves and the stunning sunsets were truly mesmerizing.
The property itself was well-maintained, clean, and equipped with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. What made the experience even more memorable was the exceptional hospitality of the owners. They were incredibly helpful, providing great local tips and ensuring that our stay was as enjoyable as possible.
If you're looking for a peaceful getaway with a view that will leave you in awe, this vacation rental is the perfect choice. Highly recommended!

What an amazing vacation to wake up to the beautiful view every day. The park feels like your own private playground.
I thoroughly enjoyed the home and all of its amenities. The hosts, Dave and Meg, really go out of their way to ensure you are comfy. The kitchen is stocked full of the quality items you’d have at home. I’m so tired of renting homes full of thrift store junk of questionable history. This place felt like we were staying at a friends home.
Just amazing. Check the 3rd bedroom for the games closet. We really loved the jigsaw puzzles as a group.

When we arrived the hosts had a bottle of champagne waiting for us as well as little treats. The house was spik and span, exactly as described and very comfortable. The hosts provided restaurant and activity suggestions as well as all the diretions we needed. The weather was extremely windy and cold so we didn't get to try the outdoor dining table or the firepit but look forward to trying them next time. We will be back.

Perfect location for a relaxing few days on the ocean.
Dave and Megan were the best hosts we have ever encountered.
The views from the house and wraparound deck can’t be beat.
Definitely want to stay here again.

We enjoyed our time at Goat Rock very much. We felt so much at home but surrounded with nature, quiet and time for reflection. We were thankful that we could meet Megan who was at the house when we arrived a little early. She eagerly invited us in and gave us some tips about the home, property and nearby areas to visit. We slept very well. Had good exercise walking up and down the terrain, watching birds, ocean and our 4 legged faithful friend. We also enjoyed looking around the house and finding thoughtful treasures. The kitchen was a treat to cook in and probably the best layout of all places we have stayed as I could see the ocean from several vantage points. My husband really liked the newly redone shower. It is tasteful, roomy and has good water pressure. We did not avail ourselves of the many outdoor amenities on this trip so we will have more new things to do on our next visit to Goat Rock House. Thank you Megan and Dave

We stayed at the Goat Rock State Beach home from 2/19 -2/23/24. The house is located on a bluff overlooking the ocean and the view was unbelievable. The house was animal friendly and we brought our lab us. My husband is wheelchair user (sport chair) and he had room to maneuver around, but the hallway and entrance to bathroom and guest rooms were a bit tight. We knew that before we arrived, and worked it out. There was plenty of room to stretch out in the kitchen, dining area and large great room. Considering there was a raging storm when we arrived, the house stayed nice and quiet. The owner called us in the evening when we arrived to check on us, and explained the house had a whole house generator in case the power went out. The power did go out the next day, and the generator turned on within 30 seconds and worked like a charm for many hours. You never knew the power went out. We took some great walks up and down the main road and enjoyed the beach after the storm calmed down. The view was amazing, the sunsets were just breathtaking. Plenty of room for a family stay. Loved the wraparound deck and view from the windows. A perfect trip to just unwind and be still...

Wonderful location with spectacular views (and access) of Goat Rock and the surrounding coast line that just can't be beat anywhere else! Comfortable and relaxing home that is perfect for the family time we were looking for. Dave and Megan were extremely helpful and giving with their knowledge of the area, and the home itself. We had no complaints except maybe that we needed to stay one more day...

We chose to ring in the New Year at this lovely property. It was a perfect getaway for our family. The views are stunning both day and night, and when it was rainy or foggy, we just cozied up next to a warm fire.
Although it can be chilly this time of year, it wasn’t too cold to go exploring. The trails were open and we were able to see so much with just a pair of binoculars….birds, boats, harbor seals, rock formations, etc.
The house was comfortable for the six of us, very clean, and well stocked. The owners are so nice and provided a lot of good information about the park and surrounding area.
We would love to stay here again!

Myself and two besties enjoyed a nice long weekend at the fabulous Goat Rock property. Last year we were all at the beach for a memorial service for my uncle and when we drove by the property we thought it would be such a great place to stay! Lucky we found the home on VRBO and the rest was history. Megan was easy to communicate with and the house supplies all you need, including the most beautiful view of the ocean. So relaxing and comfortable. We cooked and BBQ’d and spent great quality time together. Thank you again for such a wonderful stay! We will return!

A wonderful place to stay, on the road to Goat Rock at the mouth of the Russian River. Even when cars are going by, one doesn't hear or notice them. Wonderful wood burning fireplace. Extremely comfortable. Panoramic ocean views on the west and south, woods on the north and east. Extraordinary sunsets. Cool if its hot inland, great access to nearby restaurants and shops, but feels utterly rural/seaside. Very comfortable great room living area, overlooking Goat and Arch Rock. Excellent barbecue. Hosts are great communicators, and have organized all the info anyone could need in a convenient notebook. We'll be back!

I just got back from the most amazing vacation at Goat Rock in Jenner, CA! My family and I stayed in a beautiful VRBO and we couldn't be happier with our experience. The property was absolutely gorgeous, with stunning views of the ocean and plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves.
But what really set this vacation apart was the incredible hospitality of the property owners, Dave and Megan. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and were always available to answer any questions we had. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were part of their extended family.
Overall, I can't recommend this VRBO enough. If you're looking for a peaceful and serene getaway with your loved ones, this is the perfect spot. And with Dave and Megan as your hosts, you're sure to have a truly unforgettable experience. Thanks for everything!

The trip starts out with feeling of being taken care of. Dave and Megan have a well supplied kitchen, comfortable beds, and little touches here and there that make for a wonderful stay. And the location is simply spectacular. A great launching spot for a variety of activities and perfect for just hanging out and watching the ocean. We had great time and hope to return.

The views of the ocean do not get any better from this home, which is why we spent so much time hanging out on the deck and soaking up the Pacific coast/ocean.
Goat Rock is a wonderful place and the proximity of this home to the amazing beaches at Goat Rock (short walk down the road) is a bonus! I cannot say enough how wonder Dave and Megan (home owners) are - very accommodating, easy to work with and they went above and beyond in ensuring me and my family had a wonderful experience. Thank you!!

We love our stay at this house overlooking beautiful coastal scenery. Owners are great and easy to communicate with.

Enjoyed our stay. The bedroom is on the small size. If you are in a wheel chair or use as walker, you might have problems. The only other thought is bring an extension cord if you need electrical medical equipment (like CPAP), the bed rooms do not have electrical outlets on every wall.
We do not have mobility problems yet. I understand the attraction is the view/location not the bedroom. We do require electrical power for our CPAP therapy.

We had a marvelous time in this clean, comfortable, and beautifully situated house. Dave and Meehan were very helpful. We look forward to returning!
5.0 / 5.0
The house was super clean and cozy, with all the small comforts of home. The location is overlooking the Pacific where huge rocks and waves create an ongoing soothing sound. The weather was varied and we loved the shift from the sunny days to fog so thick you couldn't see the water. The fog, trees, hills and wildflowers created an other-worldly environment. To get on the sandy beach is a bit of a walk, but a short drive along the coast gives so many opportunities for walks on trails and picnic areas. We loved the birds and the huge trees. There were many visitors to the Goat Rock Park but we were never disturbed by them and always felt safe. We would definitely come back. The local towns were fun, especially the Country Store in Duncan and a trip to the Armstrong Redwood Forest, only 1/2 hour drive away, was powerful and delightful!

My family and I stayed 3 nights and absolutely loved this property! The house is so cozy and cute with a wrap around deck for lots of outside enjoyment. The view was amazing and the location was close to hiking and had easy beach access. Not only that, but Dave and Megan added so many little touches that it felt like a home away from home. They were the best hosts who thought of absolutely everything to make your stay comfortable. I would definitely stay again!

Our family of five (two parents plus three teenage boys) stayed in this house for a long weekend. The setting is absolutely gorgeous. The house is just as advertised -- set in a park overlooking the wild pacific ocean. There were plenty of trails leading from near the house to occupy our time. We had hoped to go kayaking in Jenner, but were stymied by the rain (torrential rain!). However, we still hiked in the park and spent a lot of time in this lovely and cozy house playing board games and eating tasty meals. There is a giant wraparound couch in the living room where we could all sprawl and read while watching the weather through the big windows. There was room enough for all of is -- and the teenagers are not small! The kitchen is remarkably well outfitted for its size. The beds were comfortable. The deck looks amazing, however, due to the rain we didn't get the chance to use it. The hosts were super helpful about directions and road closures and any thing else we may have needed. We are looking forward to going back again soon -- and maybe get some better weather.

As many reviewers have already stated, you can't beat the ocean side location. This is the prefect place to kick back, relax, and getaway from everyday life. However, if you are a work from home kind of person you will have trouble with zoom calls or video as there is no high speed internet. They do have satellite internet but it is slow. If you are not familiar with this area, there is a long stretch of shoreline with no cell service and this property falls into that area. Nothing to do with the host, the hills along the ocean block cell service. Cottage does have a land line phone that guests can use at no cost. Don't let this stop you, the location alone is worth the visit. We had a great time hanging out at the cottage and exploring the area!

First of all the location "if" you love the ocean cannot be beat maybe anywhere on the pacific coast line, really. It is breathtaking.
the house was just what we needed, very homy and comfortable, even a heated toilet seat, what more could you want?
Beds were very comfortable, pillows were great, the vibe was just what i needed for turning 70.
Enjoy

The location, amenity, and owners are amazing. If we could give more than 5 stars we would.
Owners are friendly and very helpful; communication prior check-in was clear and straight forward. After check in they helped us over the phone to make our cell phones working – instructions were written in welcome letter, it was us who missed them. House located at fantastic ocean place and has everything needed and much more unexpected extras. We would recommend staying there big time and we be back for sure.

The location is beyond belief in its beauty. We were here for a “bomb cyclone” and the owners were really prepared and proactive. We had no disruptions in our stay. Owners also provided extensive helpful tips on the home, neighborhood, and restaurants. We will return!
