Greg was fantastic at communication, and gave us a great beach week! The house was a perfect location to walk to the beach every day (less than 1/4 mile!), and we saw deer every day, too! The house had so many good family games and even toys our 2 year old played with. Will definitely be back!!

This house was perfect for our family with 3 small children and a dog. Great location close to both Douglas (short walk) and Oval beach (short drive), and also a short drive (5 mins max) to everything in Douglas and Saugatuck. House was very clean and the screened in porch was great to sit out and have breakfast in the morning and wine at night. Absolutely recommend staying here.

We really enjoyed our stay at Shady Pines! The rooms were just right for our family. The bathroom and kitchen were well stocked with everything we needed. We loved hanging out on the screen porch and watching the deer wander the neighborhood. The beach just a short walk away was the best spot to watch the sunset!

Thank you, Greg, for an amazing week on Lake Michigan. My kids felt right at home in your cottage and loved all of the wildlife they got to see during our stay. Everything was exactly as listed. They had a pack n play ready for my son and we were greeted by coffee and cookies when we arrived - so thoughtful!

Shady Pines is the most peaceful place we’ve ever stayed. We saw deer every morning and even a turkey! We played games, enjoyed the fireplace on the first cool night and walked to the beach everyday. Loved the fact that our doggo Trouper could join us.

My boyfriend and I have stayed here two years in a row. We found it clean, comfortable, and well equipped for cooking simple meals. It’s beautifully located among the trees, which was a refreshing change from the city where we live. We saw deer every day and enjoyed watching the falling leaves through the living-room windows. There is ample privacy, but it’s just a short drive to downtown Douglas and Saugatuck, and not too far from Holland and South Haven. The enclosed porch is a great feature, and we truly appreciated that we were able to bring our cat along. The Roku TV is easy to use and we were able to watch streaming services to which we subscribe, which was a plus on a few cold autumn nights.

Shady Pines in Douglas was a great choice for my month long visit with my dog MichU from California. We enjoyed end of summer and fall weather. Cottage was as advertised and fit our needs nicely. Enjoyed coffee and wine in the screened porch. I had my parents and sister and brother visit at times and the cottage worked great. Could cook in or BBQ or enjoy the great restaurants in the area. Enjoyed our daily walks along Lakeshore Drive and up to the root beer barrel lot into downtown Douglas. And you never grow tired of watching all of the local deer.
Greg was easy to work with and provided weekly cleaning and a new Roku set up so I could use all if my existing streaming services.
I would highly recommend Shady Pines Cottage.

My family stayed at this property for a long weekend. Prior to my stay, the host sent very detailed instructions and answered a few questions I had about the area. We were so impressed with the extras the host offered, from beach toys to extra toiletries. The property was perfect for our family and could’ve fit more people than we had! We loved the screened in porch in particular. The location was ideal for what we were looking for, a retreat walkable to the beach and a very short drive to downtown Douglas and Saugatuck. We had a wonderful family vacation!

We stayed at Shady Pines Cottage for an entire week, and it is easy to rate it all five stars!
Not even sure where to begin. We were pleased simply driving into the peaceful, quiet, and beautiful neighborhood!
Walking in the door, we were so happy to find how clean it was. There was water in the refrigerator. We are incredibly particular and it tasted just as good as our reverse osmosis filtered at home.
It is a great location in a very nice area and our two boys could ride their bikes safely. We walked to the beach to watch the gorgeous sunsets and take beautiful photos that will be forever memories.
The beds were comfortable and there was everything we needed in the cottage.
Greg is wonderful and reassured us he was there if we had any questions.
Thank you, Greg!

My husband and I came with four teenage girls and had a lovely time! The location can't be beat, is in walking distance to many things and the local trolly makes getting to Saugatuck and other local areas super easy for older teens who don't have a car. There were plenty of beds, all were very comfortable especially the queen bed in the master bedroom. We would definitely stay here again!

Visits to the Douglas Root Beer Barrel, downtown Saugatuck, the Holland Tulip Time Festival, and The Holland Harbor Lighthouse were highlights of our stay. Would love to visit again!

This property was perfect for a relaxing getaway from Chicago. We enjoyed being in an area with many trees, just a short walk from Lake Michigan. The house felt very homey, and it was well furnished with everything we needed, including cooking tools. There is a fireplace in the house, which is a great feature. However, it would have been helpful to have some instructions about how to open and close the flue.

Very relaxing and quit, got to see some deer and just relax.

The cottage itself was very clean and comfortable and we loved seeing the momma deer and her babies every day! But just a couple of warnings about the area: There are 104+ STAIRS to get down to the Douglas Beach (and back up to use the restroom/shower). For older folks like us, this was an adventure. To reach the sandbar in the water, there is a good 10+ or - feet wide width of rocks; some pretty large, and very painful to walk on!!! It varies on where you enter the water. Water shoes are highly recommended by my bruised feet and toes - ha! You can always drive to Oval Beach - we didn't swim there so I'm not sure what the bottom is like. There are beautiful bike paths but some end very abruptly. You can ride to downtown Douglas and Saugatuck safely, which was fun. The other problem we ran into was that since it was off-season (the middle of September), most restaurants were closed until Thursday or Friday - many shops were on that same schedule. The very friendly help at the Douglas Welcome Center gave us a list of everyone's hours - but it wasn't up-dated, so... We DID LOVE the area - quiet, peaceful with THE prettiest sunsets!!!! And again, the cottage was very enjoyable and the owner very easy to contact when we had a problem. Oh - I highly recommend the Saugatuck Mini-Golf off of the Blue Star Highway and, of course, the Rootbeer Barrel!

We have stayed in Douglas or surrounding areas on previous trips, and were delightfully pleased with the location and amenities offered at Shady Pines Cottage.
You will find that the owner is very responsive.
The home upon arrival was spotlessly clean. The washroom appears to be newly remodeled. All of the furniture was very comfortable, including master bed. While we didn't use 2nd bedroom, but it appears it can accommodate 4 kids or 2 adults/2 kids. The kitchen is sufficiently stocked with cookware/serving ware for those who prefer to make their own meals to eat in.
One of the features we really enjoyed was the screened in porch with table/stools and casual sitting that look out onto a wooded lot across the way.
Surrounding neighborhood areas are very quiet, and location is 2-3 blocks walking distance from the public beach.
We definitely hope to stay there again in the future.

We are older so the tub shower was difficult but we managed.
Area is beautiful!

We are repeat visitors. We keep coming back because the location cannot be beat. We love that we can walk to the beach, walk to the Rootbeer barrel, and walk to the cutest new coffee shop. We love that we can bring our fur baby too and she loves to look for deer on walks. The only downside at all is that the house is a bit rustic, but we like the cabin feel and it is very clean.
