It is difficult to express how disappointed we were with this property. We have been using Vrbo for approximately five years. This year alone we have logged about 90 nights with Vrbo. In all those visits we have NEVER encountered a worse property or a less helpful host.
First of all, the apartment is not truly habitable at this time (March) of year. Being below grade, the heat pump struggles to raise the temperature above 69 degrees. The breakfast room (den) is unheated and hence unusable. Which means that we had no place to eat meals, except the coffee table in the living room.
There are many things we did not know: the “newly refinished” floors are cement; there is no railing on the uneven, dis-repaired steps leading down to the front door; children and at least one dog frolic upstairs.
Other complaints: the website is out of date; the sliding glass doors in the shower (shown in the Vrbo ad) have been replaced with a plastic shower curtain; the living room blinds are broken; there is a huge spider web on the glass of the breakfast room, complete with carcasses. The TV failed to work four of our first five nights. We fled to a hotel for our sixth and seventh nights. There was a general lack of instructions, for example: TV controls, heating system controls.
When these issues were raised we received only empty promises from the owner: nothing was addressed.
We asked that our money be refunded. It was not.

We enjoyed our stay in Richmond. The “Downtown Hideaway “ was in a perfect location. We walked or rode our bikes almost every place we wanted to go. The kitchen worked well for us, the bed was comfortable. And Chris was quick to answer questions.

What an adorable place! Comfortable and a little quirky, in a neighborhood with lots of charm that was a quick ride to where we wanted to go. The host was communicative and helpful. If you're a light sleeper the occasional morning noise from upstairs may bother you (footsteps, a barking dog) but it wasn't a problem for the three of us. My favorite feature was the sun room. I'll stay here again if I find myself in Richmond.

The apartment was well-supplied for either short or long stays and was very comfortable. Great location.

Very clean, nicely decorated, well supplied, convenient to Broad Street. Nice neighborhood. No problem parking on the street or behind townhouse.
The renters upstairs were very nice and not noisy even though they have a child, dog and cat.
My husband and I are mid 60’s to 70. We walked to several restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can also cook for yourself. Full kitchen as well as a washing machine/dryer!
We will be back whenever we visit Richmond and can’t stay with our daughter.

The apartment is nice and the bed in the main bedroom is comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom are very efficient. There is no information on the area, i.e. restaurants, places to visit. The kitchen could use a few basic items such as dish towels. salt and pepper, etc.. Overall a nice apartment.

The property was two blocks from our daughter, so the location was perfect, just what we were looking for. Plus easy walk to good restaurants and the new ICA. Good parking in the alley and easy front and back entrances. The tenant upstairs was very sweet. The overall street seemed friendly and quiet. The apartment was spacious with comfy bed, nice shower and updated kitchen. Being allergic to some dogs, I am very appreciative of owners who make extra effort to clean. With that and being mindful, I had minimal problems and would stay again.

Hay downtown location with restaurants, bars, attractions all within walking distance.

My 11 year old and I shared the bedroom queen and my Aunt stayed in the living room on the pull-out couch. Was warm and cozy- nice kitchen, and was thrilled to find the French press! The den/sunroom and book collection were quite a bonus!
And the fenced backyard was great for the dog.
And a great shower (even the 11 year old commented on it)

We spent a week exploring the area and visiting friends. This was a perfect spot, particularly with our two dogs. There is a park a block away, so nice walks were easy. With a fenced backyard, a quick out was always an option.
Easy access to I-95 and to major surface streets made navigating around Richmond a breeze.

The place was very nice and comfortable. The only issue were the upstairs neighbors. Walking around on uncarpeted floors all night for 2 of the nights. Otherwise very nice!!

Nice and quaint bottom floor apartment. Very clean and comfortable for our long weekend stay.

We got into the apartment and it smelled really musty. We started unloading the car and then took a closer look and the couch and two chairs were covered in mold. It was wet to the touch and the fabric was damp. We took everything back out to the car and tried to get in touch with the owner, but weren't able to. We ended up speaking with HomeAway and they were awesome. They moved us to a hotel for 3 nights and the customer service was amazing. They could not refund the money though and we had to get in touch with the owner. We were eventually able to email with Chris and he refunded the money and assured us that the issue is taken care of, which I assume means he has replaced the living room furniture. The place looked cute and clean otherwise and the neighborhood was cute. As long as the couch and chairs were replaced, I would consider recommending the place.

We enjoyed our stay, Chris's apartment was very conveniently located and accommodating, neat, clean and as described. Chris was very clear in instructions for keys etc and everything went off smoothly. definitely recommend this place

We spent approximately two weeks in the unit. The unit was nicely laid out and close to fine dining The unit is in an area that consists of homes that were under various stages of update. I felt safel walking our dogs during the day and earlly evening. The unit was adequately cleaned but the furniture is worn and the walls are in need of pairing. The kitchen was adequate but dark. The dry cycle of washer /dryer combo never worked and the owner offered no suggestions to correct it. Small sugar ants were on counter tops during our stay even after our attempts to get rid of them. The televion was tucked away in a corner and is seriously undersized for the room. The back entrance through the rear sunroom was dark, dirty and scattered
with miscellaneous items of the neighbors. As other reviewers noted the upstairs neighbors were noisy on occasion. With a little more TLC and a better maintained rear garden and entrance our stay would have been more enjoyable.

We booked a five-day stay in April, but left after four, a bit dissatisfied. Although the apartment is nice and clean, it is very dark due to the basement location. On top of that a few lights were out, but did not get fixed during our stay. The kitchen has clearly been upgraded with a nice dish washer and other amenities, but we found the coffee carafe broken and a frying pan with black residue burned in, both unusable, and not replaced during our stay. Other things that would have been useful include some sharp knives, a corkscrew, and a cutting board. Plenty of drinking/wine glasses, but many of them were not clean, with lipstick residue. The upstairs neighbors can be heard walking about and there was one night with very loud, late-night music. The sun room is great, best enjoyed in the afternoon sun, but the view into the backyard is a bit drab and the window has seen better days. The location is a great one, within walking distance to really nice restaurants (Max's and Bistro 24, just to name a couple) and the neighborhood feels very safe with plenty of parking.

A quiet little getaway ,well appointed, no frills. My husband and I spent a week in this location, called Jackson Ward. Lots of great restaurants, within walking distance. Richmond being so full of historic places to see, we had a great time and would definitely return to this apartment. Owner very helpful.

Stayed here for a week with my family. Very clean and tastefully decorated flat with all the amenities you need. Helpful owner!

We stayed for a weekend in Sept. for the NASCAR race only 10 min. drive to Richmond International Speedway. The area around the the apartment was great you can walk to various restaurants, museums, shops, VCU and the state capitol. There are plenty of actives in the area for sightseeing or just enjoying a night out listening to music and having a drink. Also met an upstairs neighbor that gave us more info on places to visit in the local neighborhood. The downstairs apartment was just right for the two of us clean, comfortable, great kitchen and the nice quiet sun room in the back to read and enjoy your morning coffee. No problems finding parking.
Thanks Chris for our first trip to Richmond.

The basement level apartment was well located to dining and a short drive to shopping and museums. We were able to park near the front door, walk to excellent restaurants, and gather comfortably in the living room. We slept well on a good mattress and sofa with lovely linens. Owner responded quickly to arrival and departure texts. Should we make another trip to Richmond, we would seek out these accommodations again.
