I grew up coming to the Michigan shores from Chicago, and have watched the area change a lot over the years. Change is of course inevitable, and often welcome, but it's also a little sad to see things getting very gentrified, so this charming and unfussy cottage is a delight to find, it still feels like the Michigan of my youth. We love the old-school feel, easy comfort, and charming care taken to make it appealing. It has everything you could need to cook and hang out, and its location cannot be beat--to be able to walk into the Dunes state park is amazing, the beach goes on forever and is stunning, and and the hosts have also provided everything you need to enjoy being out and about, there are beach chairs and bikes and buckets and an umbrella. Sawyer and the area have nice shops and restaurants... and communicating with the hosts is brilliant. It's bliss, we'll be back!! (ok one caveat: people comment on the beds. They have thick foam toppers, so they are undeniably very soft, but happily we like softer beds, so they suited us okay, if they don't suit you maybe you can just remove the toppers)

Absolutely charming little cottage in an excellent location. Very comfortable for two adults and two little kids. This is our second summer in Sawyer, and we would definitely come back here for a third.

This house was in a great location and close to multiple area attractions. Overall, the house was delightful however needed a few spots deep cleaned. Bed and towels were nice and clean. Bed was comfortable and lots of great dvds and games were available. The outside of the house and landscaping appeared to need some TLC but didn’t affect our stay overall. Covered table on the back deck was nice, and we relaxed there at times. Thanks for sharing your house with us.

House is in great location right next to Warren Dunes State Park. Turkeys and deer walking around. Had everything as advertised. House was clean. Could use a little maintenance such as slow bathtub drain and dusty air vent or two. Deck was a nice place to eat meals. Back yard around fire pit was messed up didn’t use it.

Here’s what we loved about the cottage – the location. When we opened the door, we were met with a loud beeping noise every 15-30 seconds, and we could not easily find the source. We tried calling the host. He did not pick up, and his VM was full. We checked the welcome guide/binder and could not find any helpful information. After about 30 minutes, we found the carbon monoxide detector plugged into an outlet near the baseboards behind two dining room chairs. We hit the reset button, and the CO detector went blissfully quiet. At 1:30 a.m., we were woken up to the CO detector beeping again. We reset the CO again and messaged the host to ask him to replace the decade old advice. Later that morning, the host responded, apologizing, but saying that he would not replace the CO detector or send someone to replace it. Luckily, we were able to find a store that first full day where we purchased a CO detector. After reaching out to VRBO support, the host again apologized but claimed that the smoke detector was also a CO detector. It is not. The home just needs some care. Both beds need new mattresses. The use of memory foam toppers cannot correct for a mattress so soft that your body forms a V when you lay down. We also hosed down the lawn furniture on our first day to remove a heavy layer of dirt. VRBO Support has told the host that he needs to compensate us for not having a safety feature that he listed. He has stopped responding to them and to us.

My husband and I and our two girls enjoyed everything about this cottage and our stay in Sawyer. We come yearly and this was our favorite house yet. It is super quiet, watching deer and turkey in the yard, easy access to the park, plenty of comfortable living space and conveniences in the home. We never needed to contact Justin, but he was responsive before and after. This area is wonderful for a classic family lake trip. We enjoyed his collection of DVDs for the one night we didn't go climb Old Baldy. Highly recommend and will book for next year soon!
