The description of this place is misleading and I would even say deceitful. The place is more like a shack that feels like it is sliding off the hillside.
It is up a narrow one lane very treacherous road that is barely paved with mostly ruts. If you have a regular car, it will bottom out. There is only room for 1 car and if you meet another car, good luck. It is not “blocks” from the river or downtown, it is a treacherous drive.
It says 2 bedrooms, sleeps six. The main house, which is what is advertised, DOES NOT sleep 6 people. There is a queen bed and a full size daybed. Again, deceitful. It could sleep 3 people at most.
They told us that since we are 2 couples, we would be more comfortable having the downstairs unit that they would rent it to us for an additional $50 which seemed like a deal at the time.
Walking into the “main house” you are met with a pungent smell that lingers and never goes away. The kitchen does have a new stove and microwave, but is not what I call updated. Everything else seems like it is falling apart. Even the laminated surface on the cabinets is peeling off.
We chose the downstairs. It is a dump. The shower looks like the owner might have decided to do it themselves while the bathroom itself is not updated and looks haggard, same with the kitchen.
If you look closely, you can see that the supporting ceiling beams downstairs has visible termite damage and when you touch it, dust from the termites just pours through. This can not be safe.

Russian River Privacy is a great description of this property. We wanted to be truly among the Redwoods and we were! The owners provided very clear instructions about checking in and accessing the property and we appreciated their prompt responses to our questions. The only challenge was the very narrow road leading to the house, but we were given clear information about this in advance and knew to just take it slow.
I would stay at Russian River Privacy again if I make a return visit to the area.

Cute cabin high up in the trees. Lovely stay. Road was a little treacherous. Would not drive a sports car up to the house again.

Could not get the hot tub above 100F and it took a while to get there. The on demand hot water for the cottage set at lukewarm. The final full-day there was no hot water in the cottage. Everthing is controlled by Bluetooth remotely, there has to be a better value for you vacation dollar. Took the owner a day to get back at me🙃😴

We really enjoyed the cabin. It is magnificently situated on a very steep downslope in the middle of redwoods. As others noted, you can either park on the downhill side (requires about 90 steps climb to the cabin) or you can drive along a narrow mountain path with steep drop-off on one side and steep hill on the other, with about 12 steep steps down to the cabin. Definitely not a place to bring your 90 year old mother. But safe for kids and dogs, I think. As others noted, heaven knows what we would do if we crossed paths with someone on the high road, I guess we would have to do some tricky reverse driving. But we came in and out a few times and didn't cross paths with anyone.
The cabin has everything needed, the kitchen, while small, is very well outfitted with what is needed for preparing decent meals. The hot tub was amazing.
This cabin is definitely on the "rough and ready" side though, the master bedroom is nice but the second bedroom is small. Heating could be an issue because the main room has the main heater supply and the bedrooms could be chilly. But we thought it was ok. We also noted that some of the electric outlets didn't work but once we sorted out which were on and which were off, we were fine. Shower curtain would be improved if it would be a lot less stiff, it doesn't lay well around the bathtub/shower.
One hitch was that when we arrived we noted that there was not much propane, there are 5 tanks but only one of them had any and it was half-empty. There are a few nice toys that take propane, like the BBQ and the fire-pit table The owner apologized profusely and offered to reimburse us if we went down to the town to pick up more, which would not have bothered me but I guess some guests would be annoyed. As it turned out we managed with what we had.
Overall, pleased with the place. If you come here you should have a healthy sense of adventure, though.

Me and my two girlfriends from college wanted a cozy getaway in the woods to cook, talk and take in the trees and rain. This cute place in the trees fit that order, but not without its issues. When we arrived the unit heater was on to heat the living room. We quickly turned on the two available space heaters for the back headroom and bathroom which were very cold. All outlets were out. No heaters, no lamps. Flipped the outlet switches. After three attempts they came on,…but the stove went out. Flipped the kitchen switches, no stove for the night. We made do cooking in batches in the toaster over — no big deal. By the night the cabin was cozy and warm. Day 2 the stove came on completely on its own and we had a great second night. My third friend slept on the sofa because the twin/trundle wouldn’t pull out and left no room to move. Overall, even with these issues we enjoyed this cute treehouse cabin. It’s just priced too high considering we had to make do on key amenities.

This is a lovely, little house in a very quiet area of Monte Rio. The directions were helpful and Sarah was very responsive when we had a glitch at check-in. Our family was grateful for the peace and quiet of being apart from other houses, and the relaxation of the hottub under the stars!

Overall, just wonderful. The road going up is scary. Glad this wasn't a girls trip, because I couldn't back down that road when another car comes.

This property was very clean, convenient and cozy with a lot of assets and is well stocked for vacation cooking. It would be ideal for two couples or two to four singles.. It is beautifully nestled in the redwoods in a quiet neighborhood above Monte Rio.
The directions to the property sent by the owner were very helpful, and do arrive during daylight if at all possible.
The picture is accurate and taken from the road. The owners were very clear that this is not a facility for people who cannot navigate stairs.

My husband and I stayed here with our dogs. It was nice and secluded. Wish there was more areas for the dogs to roam and the road in is very narrow.

A little tricky to find, definitely print out the instructions as GPS is not good here. The house was great and having both spaces for 2 couples was great, really enjoyed the barbeque, hot tub and fire tables in the evenings, very sociable space.

Nice Location But Poor Communication
The house was nice but I received very late communication about the property. I had to message the owners to get the check-in information which was not sent to me until the morning of my stay. I sent two more messages during my stay that were never responded to.

Beautiful
It is absolutely beautiful up here and the neighbors are very spaced out, nice private little place to spend time with a family. The road up to the place is definitely a little scary ad its VERY narrow and tiny but other then that we enjoyed it so much. Everything thing was clean and perfect for my my little family definitely plan on coming back.

Great cottage amongst the trees on a hill
Fantastic two night getaway! The property had plenty of room for our two grown kids and our Dog. Walking to the public beach where dogs are allowed was a huge plus! Property management was great

Comfy hillside abode
As secluded and arboreal as we could have hoped for, practically the definition of cozy! We'd gladly return.

Bohemian Grooving
Great property but not for those who fear heights because of the road. However, there is a parking spot on street below if one is fit enough to climb the steep stairs.
Hot tub amazing in the trees! Quiet and felt like I was in my own private mini-estate. The owner was a fabulous communicator and got back to me almost immediately.

Peacefully and private
I really enjoyed my stay here and think it’s a great way to enjoy the area from the comfort of a place that feels like home.
The space was absolutely what was promised. The bed was super comfy and clean. It has a great hot tub and outdoor fire table on the deck. And Sara was an excellent host.

quiet and relaxing
Just as described. Very quiet and comfortable. Enjoyed being in the redwoods. Like sleeping in a treehouse. The property was very clean and well kept. The road is not for the faint hearted, but provided the quiet atmosphere. I will stay here again.

Amazing
Loved the place. If your looking to stay inside of a Redwood forest, this is the one.
Only "negatives".
- Many electrical outlets and the heaters didn´t worked.
- To get there you need to drive for 5 minutes on whay my family called "the dead road", extremly narrow road with a cliff on the side.
Possitve:
- Location, location, location.
- Jacuzzi
- Full kitchen
- The vibe

Excellent
We really enjoyed the cute spot amongst the redwoods. It was just a short walk to the river and reasonable drive to wineries and the ocean. We had a wonderful time eating meals on the porch under the lights and the trees! We would definitely come back again. Thank you for sharing your space!

Relaxing Retreat in the Redwoods
The narrow, unpaved, tree-lined road to the property made our getaway feel adventurous and remote. The place was fully stocked with everything we needed (except Kleenex!). Appreciated all the hooks to hang stuff on... some out on the deck would have been great, too, to hang wet bathing suits. Being surrounded by redwoods and spaced apart from neighboring houses was the best part for me; however, there were a couple dogs in the lower neighborhood that were barking incessantly... all day and into the evening! My teens appreciated the stable WiFi and enjoyed the mini hiking trail behind the house down the hill. And of course, the hot tub was a hit for all. I'd return to this redwood retreat again despite the odor common in properties on septic systems (you get used to it pretty quickly). Sarah & Danielle were communicative, provided clear instructions, and even allowed us to check in early!

Wonderful getaway in the woods!
My family and I loved this place. It is well appointed, nicely decorated, and the beds are very comfortable. Hot tub was a treat at the end of the day. My daughter loved her "bedroom nest" in the trees so much she never wanted to leave. Close to everything the Russian River has to offer. We look forward to coming again some time.

Peace & Quiet Among the Redwoods!
What a great space! This place was perfect for a girls weekend away. It is far away from town to be very quiet but you can walk right into Monte Rio to enjoy the river or pick up supplies or food. The GPS directions can be misleading so pay attention to the street signs. One bed was firm and one was soft which worked great for our preferences. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals including the cutest egg pan. Being surrounded by redwoods while in the hot tub enjoying coffee and tea from the colorful mugs provided was the highlight. The heaters kept us warm at night and there were extra blankets as well. We brought our beach chairs and towels from home to bring down to the river which was a short 10 minute walk. The hosts were responsive and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely Getaway
After not leaving our house in over a year, we mustered up the courage to find an isolated spot where we could enjoy each other’s company in a new environment. Well, this was perfect! The house was quiet and charming, and the hot tub and grill were fantastic. The approach to the house is a bit terrifying (a steep, narrow, single lane road), but you can also park down below and get some exercise walking up the neat stairway through the redwoods to get to the house. The hot tub was a bit cold, but we figured out how to turn up the heat and by the second night it was terrific!

Relaxing stay in Monte Rio!
My wife and I loved our stay at this place! Beautifully nestled in the woods and close to the beach, river, and cute shops. Our golden retriever especially loved being in the woods and exploring! The house was super quaint with all the amenities you need! Beautiful area!! The only thing we would change is the main bed, (super hard), and give it a lil tlc, but that’s about it! The owners called right before and were communicative throughout when needed. Overall good stay!

Woodsy Rejuvenation
All we wanted was to get away from urban life, be secluded, and soak a lot! This was perfect. It had all the amenities we were looking for and we'd definitely return. Our daughter loved her room, bed, and the movies they had in stock. She didn't want to leave! This was a great getaway from home even though we were only a 90 min drive away and we were able to hit town and the coast everyday.

Cool place but a little dark in the trees
We enjoyed this place, but its really under the redwoods, so during the day it felt a bit dark and disconnected. Its not as close to the river as I would have liked (10 min walk or a bit more?). We enjoyed the patio with the fire table and hot tub, and the two units setup worked well for my family. I like the keyless entry idea, but when we arrived after a long drive we couldn't get in or reach anyone for a littel while, and that was a bummer. Overall - a reasonable option but not my first choice to return to.

Very Nice Location
The property is located in a beautiful area surrounded by trees making the stay very unique. The place itself was okay. We stayed in both units and both were very well equipped. They were not as clean as we would've expected. We found lots of trash under the couches and beds. The drawer were the silverware goes was also pretty dirty. Overall, a decent stay.

Cute, secluded home up in the trees!
We spent four days up in Monte Rio and loved our time in the redwoods! We were impressed with the fully stocked kitchen and the beds were quite comfortable; and the hot tub amazing after a long day hiking or down at the beach. Located walking distance to Monte Rio beach and a little convenience store. The home is up a twisty one lane dirt road, so arriving during the day as the hosts suggest is highly recommended. Lastly there are A LOT of stairs to get down to the trash area and the road below, so this property might not be ideal for those with mobility limitations. Overall we had a lovely stay and would recommend this place for a family or group of 3-4.

We desperately needed a change of scenery after COVID sheltering in place for the last five months.
Lovely spot, beautiful setting, close to the ocean for beach walks, close to Armstrong Woods for redwood walks, near wineries if we’d wanted to do that.

We loved this home nestled away in the Redwoods! It was charming and had all the amenities. The aired smelled so fresh each day. Sarah was so responsive to all of our inquiries. We look forward to staying here again!

Great stay- walking distance to Russian River!
We had a great stay at this house! The host was super responsive and very helpful during the stay. It took around 15 mins to walk to the river (with kids). As a plus, the beds were really comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Cabin under Redwood canopy
This property was perfect for our stay. Cabin is located on a rather steep hillside under a canopy of tall redwood trees that presents offers plenty of tranquility. The road to get to the property runs along the hillside and is very narrow in some parts. Arriving during the day time is the safest way. The cabin itself is a bit on the quant side but offers all the comforts of home. Kitchen is fully stocked with updated appliances. The deck outside is perfect for relaxing with the fire pit, and cooking on the bbq worked well also. Hot tub was also clutch after some long hikes during the day. Overall.....nice place

Quiet, Homey Stay
Sarah & Danielle don't exaggerate about the beauty, privacy or comfort of their property. With a fully stocked kitchen for cooking to the general tucked-away-ness of the home, me and my group couldn't have asked for a better place to spend Thanksgiving. If you have guests arriving after dark, it's best to help them navigate up the road to either parking spot—we were beset with some heavy rains and it definitely helped people get situated!
