About this house rental
Lovely, light-filled three-level house with beautiful lake views from almost every room. The two-story living room flows into a dining room and well-equipped kitchen. Sliding glass doors open onto a large screened-in porch that overlooks the lake and spans the entire house, with plenty of room for dining and relaxing. Skylights in the living room and windows everywhere bring in the light.
About a 90-minute drive from DC, the house is perfect for weekend or week-long getaways (10% discount for week-long stays). It has 3 bedrooms with queen beds, all of which have lake views, and 1 bedroom with twin beds and a street/woods view. For your indoor entertainment, we have excellent wi-fi throughout the house, two TVs with cable and access to your own streaming services, as well as books, games, puzzles, and a pool table. On cool nights, cozy up to the wood-burning fireplace in the living room.
Hang out on the huge screened-in porch that faces the lake. Outside, swim in the lake, and paddle our kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. Our house is on Keaton Lake, also known as the “small lake” – no motorboats allowed, which adds to the serenity. Enjoy the dock, picnic table, fire pit, Adirondack chairs, and birdsong in the wooded surroundings. At night, step onto the dock or even the front porch to see a million stars.
The lake house is located in a development called Lake of the Woods, a gated community with a diverse population of about 7,000 and a wealth of amenities that guests can enjoy. These include an 18-hole, par 71 PGA golf course, 2 lakes, 8 beaches of varying sizes, outdoor swimming pool, horseback riding (including trail and pony rides), walking and hiking trails, parks and playgrounds. (Some activities require a modest fee; golf is about $20-$40.) There’s a café where you can get breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a clubhouse that offers Sunday brunch, dinner five nights a week, and drinks, all with a fabulous view of the 3-mile long, 550-acre “big lake.”
Dining and grocery-shopping options are within a few minutes' drive. Farther away (30 minutes) to the east is Fredericksburg, and to the west is Culpeper. Both offer local restaurants and art galleries, and Fredericksburg has a wide array of big-box stores and chain restaurants. For history buffs, the area is rich in Civil War history and battlefields. Local wineries offer tastings and live music.

Strategically located to explore many battlefields in the area - topped it off with a final trip to Appomattox Court House. It was great to end each day back at Janet’s lovely home to rest and relax. Walmart close by kept everyone fed and happy. Thanks, Janet, for your attentiveness to your guests needs!

What a beautiful community and home. The house was equipped with everything we could have possibly wanted. The kids had a blast kayaking and exploring the close by beaches. The hosts were lovely and made our stay so easy with helpful information. We will definitely return!

We had a great time. The house was amazing. The host was incredibly attentive to any of our questions. The directions left for us, the labels in the house, the amenities were all fantastic. We had a blast! We would stay here again.

We came to spend Thanksgiving with family in LOW. This house was very close to them, and we are so happy that it was available for booking. The house was everything advertised and more. There was a homey feeling to it as soon as you walked in. We dealt with Janet and she was just great! Very responsive to questions. I would definitely rent this house again for other family trips to LOW.

Our first visit to Lake of the Woods was wonderful. The house was very clean, we were provided an abundance of towels, small appliances to cook pretty much anything we wanted, and plenty of sitting and lounging for everyone. Our host, Janet, answered our questions promptly and was able to give us good suggestions for everything we wanted to do. Check in was a breeze and we were able to relax from the very start. We’ll definitely be back and hopefully will be able to rent this house again.

This is a wonderful house in a very tranquil setting. The beds are all incredibly comfortable and we slept like babies. The kitchen is well equipped and the water supplies like the noodles, paddle boards, and kayaks were exactly what we were looking for. Everything in the house is clearly labeled making it easy to find anything and Janet made check in as breeze. She was also very attentive to our every need. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Stayed here with my family and our close friends and their children (adults, teens and children) and all were very happy here! House was immaculately clean and very comfortable. Kitchen and light switches are labeled so it was easy to find everything we needed. We loved using the kayaks and paddle boards and swimming right off the dock. So convenient! We visited the Clubhouse beach at the main lake (a short drive) and there are restaurants, grocery, etc, all very close. Janet, the host, got everything organized for us -- there are a few extra forms to make sure we could get into the Lake of the Woods community -- and finding the house and checking in / out was super simple. Very responsive and helpful. We hope to be back soon!!

This house was exactly what we needed for our family to spend a week with my daughter and her family who lives in LOW. The grandkids were in the water in the big lake every day and we were able to see our local grandkids in the LOW Ski Show. The house was very clean and well stocked with kitchen items, bath towels, etc. Everything we needed.

My friends and I were in town for weekend to attend an Anniversary Party. The house was exactly what we needed. We loved that the house was extremely organized. Labeling of kitchen cabinets and light switches was extremely helpful. The house was extremely clean, and everything we needed was provided. I would rent this house again, and highly recommend it to anyone.

We had a great time with our family for a long weekend. We fished, enjoyed the kayaks and SUPs, swam in the lake right off of the dock, and roasted s’mores. We didn’t leave the house other than to run to the grocery store, but it appears there is plenty of activities to do in the LOW community as well as restaurants, a vineyard, and trails nearby. Janet made everything easy…she checked in via text regularly and labeled all of the light switches and drawers making things easy to find. We hope to come back sometime!

Our family loved the quiet, relaxing atmosphere of the house and area. The multiple bedrooms and baths are very convenient. Nicely furnished home with many fun activity options, the easy access kayaking was great! The large screened in back porch was the highlight. Great communication with host too, would stay again!

Beautiful lake front property with everything you could need for a great time. The house itself was super clean and spacious enough for our crowd of 7 women. There's at least one bedroom and a bathroom on each floor. The community has restaurants, beaches, and pools, so you really won't have to travel at all to have fun. We enjoyed kayaking and paddle boarding off the dock. The owner responded very quickly to all of our inquiries. You will not be disappointed with this home.

Excellent vacation spot
We traveled with family from the DC area so the location was great. The house was perfect for us! Beautiful and clean and the lake view was beautiful from the large screened in porch to the dock! We enjoyed the paddle boards and kayaks too! Plenty of space inside with all the amenities we could’ve wanted. We had a wonderful trip! Thank you

Great family trip!
Traveling with 3 generations and we had a wonderful time! It was awesome that each generation had thier own bedroom and bathroom each on a separate floor. Location close to DC, walking/ hiking trails and in a quiet, safe location. Also close to grocery stores and plenty to do not too far away. Pool table got plenty of use with some fun family tournaments. Kitchen was well stocked with anything we needed and well labeled to find everything easily. The screened in porch was a favorite spot to relax and watch the swans, squirrels and kayakers on the lake. Owner was very responsive and checked in at the beginning and at the end of our trip to be sure all was as it should be.

Best vacation ever!!
We absolutely loved our stay at this awesome place! The house was very clean and roomy. We loved the screened in porch. My husband and my three sons, daughter in law and granddaughter enjoyed our time at the lake. Fishing was fun! Swimming and floating and kayaking was a blast. My granddaughter caught her first fish and now she's "hooked"! 😁 What I loved the most were the swans that visited often, the mallards, geese, herring and turtles. So much wildlife.
We loved it so much we plan to book it next year!
Communication with the host was superior!
Can't wait to visit again.

It's no wonder why all of the previous reviews were 5 stars! This property is very clean, organized and located in a beautiful gated community right on a lake! Even though you are in the woods we saw very few bugs at the property. We were happy to find that Walmart and grocery are located just minutes away. The owner reached out to me to make sure check in went smoothly, which was a wonderful surprise as some property owners are difficult to contact. There is even a book full of things to do in the area.
I would highly recommend if you are traveling with a group, plenty of beds with 4 bedrooms, and 3 bathrooms with showers! Games and pool table downstairs, Kayaks and paddle boards, life vests... We couldn't have asked for a better set up! Unfortunately we didn't get to kayak as the weather was not in our favor but if we visit again this property will be my first choice!

We had a great time. Property was well stocked with anything you might need and things you didn't even know you did. Having the kayaks and paddle boards was a HUGE hit. We put all kayaks to use and 3 of our party (first timers) learned how to stand up paddle board and loved it! Really enjoyable and property owners are a great for communication! I wish our stay could have been longer. Highly recommend.

Family Easter at the Lake House
We were very impressed with the amenities of this house and the location. The kitchen offered top notch dishes, pans, appliances as well as other items that are not generally included as spices, aluminum foil, oil, etc. Everything was well stocked through out the house including hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper and trash bags. The bedrooms provided comfortable sleeping accommodations with very nice bedding as well as good quality towels in the bathroom. We enjoyed the screened porch, downstairs game room, dock and fire pit as each area was nicely furnished. The use of the kayaks and paddle boards were enjoyed by our children and granddaughter. It was a superb house that we highly recommend as a rental. You definitely get your money’s worth at this lake house.

Comfy Lake House.
Lovely home on a peaceful lake. Owner was great with communication. Everything was labeled making it easy to find and put back. Tons to keep a family busy - games, pool table, etc. We really enjoyed using the kayaks. It was a great spring break!

Great place
We had a wonderful vacation at this house. This house has perhaps the best equipped kitchen of any we've stayed in. It also had space on each floor, so that we all had ample space to be able to spread out.

Owner went above and beyond!
My husband and I got married on October 9th of this year at the Lake of the Woods clubhouse. We decided to rent a couple of houses for the groomsmen and bridesmaids so we had separate places to stay and get ready before the wedding. This house was used by the groomsmen and they LOVED it! Not only did they say the beds were SUPER comfortable, but they also enjoyed fishing on the lake and having bonfires. They also loved the pool table!
The owner also went above and beyond for us. Since the groom stayed with me the night of the wedding, his groomsmen packed his things for him and we thought some things had been left behind. Not only did Janet go out of her way to contact her cleaning person to see if anything was left, they dropped the stuff off with family that lives in the neighborhood! We couldn’t be more appreciative of her efforts.
10/10 recommend this house to anyone looking for a nice, quiet getaway with a great view.

Perfect for 2 families who enjoy each other’s company but value a separate space for personal boundaries. Loved kayaking on the calm water with easy to use vessels. Enjoyed grilling burgers and dogs on the provided outdoor grill. The screen porch set the tone for a woodsy experience with an exceptional lake view. We saw blue herons and ducks. Geese flew in formation just above the waters surface. The owners thought of everything from labeled light switches to laundry soap. Very neat and clean this Lake of the Woods property is absolutely wonderful. We highly recommend it for friends and families.

Perfection!
I can’t recall a better rental experience, honestly, and we have done a lot of them. The house was neat as a pin and full stocked and organized with good quality furnishings and finishes. AND the hostess could not have been nicer. First trip to LOW and we highly recommend it for people that enjoy quiet and still things to do. Rent here rent here rent here!

Great owner, great place!
This was honestly the best experience I've ever had on vrbo. Janet was amazing.... in touch and very responsive. There was an ant problem while we were there and she called to see if she should come down and spray. I said not to worry, we also live near the woods and have ants all the time. I'll just get some traps... not a huge deal. Well, she drove over two hours each way to spray the outside and left me some ant bait (but asking me first to make sure she wasn't infringing on our privacy). Amazingly, whatever she did outside actually stopped the ants. She also was very responsive in answering questions about Lake of the Woods and forwarding fun events happening in the community. The place itself was great. Loved the stand up paddleboards and kayaks and screened in porch. Also enjoyed the firepit. The thing that set it apart though honestly was so small. It was the little amenities like the first aid kit, having a zester, working kitchen utensils, well-organized and labeled drawers and cabinets, extra trash bags, saran wrap, salt/pepper, oil, etc. It just made it so easy to be there and not have to run to the store a million times. Thank you so much for the thoughtfulness! Sometimes you can tell if a place is a frequent rental because a lot of things are just broken or missing key kitchen items. This is a well cared for place and you can tell Janet takes great care of it... stay here, you won't be disappointed!
