Welcome to your very own piece of paradise only 15 minutes from Asheville, North Carolina where you will enjoy your time away from the cares of this world. Located on a 150 acre gated estate, Wintersun sets itself apart from other mountain homes.
As soon as you drive through the gates, you will pass a rushing trout stream, drive through a lush green valley, cross over the bridge by the trickle down ponds, pass the horses playing in a mountain meadow and drive up and away to the fern and flower-bedecked verandah, which offers a comfortable seat and a breathtaking view.
The environment is a contrast in expansiveness and intimacy. From the verandah mountain ranges recede into smoky blue shadows, while on the arbor side the stone garden climbs 50 feet flanking a 24-foot waterfall surrounded by an enclosed lawn.
Inside the elegant country home are spacious rooms furnished with oriental rugs, antiques, huge stone fireplaces, books galore, with deep chairs and sofas for leisurely pursuits. All 5 of Wintersun's bedrooms are beautifully appointed with fine furnishings, designer fabrics, lush linens, down comforters, private baths, cozy seating, and fireplaces, with fabulous views of the blue ridge mountains.
For disc golf lovers, in addition to 4 miles of private hiking trails there are 2 private disc golf courses which have been rated as one of the best private courses on the east coast.

We reserved Wintersun to celebrate our mom's 90th birthday. The porches, views, trails, and wildlife made the celebration extra special. We found most of the trails to be very well maintained. Landscaping is also quite impressive. (Nice work, Alex and crew!) We enjoyed seeing wild turkeys on the main lawn each morning/evening. Staff were very responsive and helpful (no problems, just questions!). Neighbors stopped to help us take photographs. I can't wait to go back. Judy and her staff have earned all the accolades possible.

Wintersun met all our expectations. We were looking for a place where our family could get together and enjoy all that Asheville has to offer and reconnect with friends. The property has many hiking trails and provides plenty of space for guests to enjoy quiet time.

Our family rented both the Inn and the Cottage on this gorgeous 180 acre property for one week in June... for our daughter's nearby wedding in Fairview.
The Inn is even better than the photos. Beyond description. Beautifully decorated, lovingly maintained, all details taken into account. We had almost all dinners in the large dining room - seats 10 easily. And the kitchen amazed us.. ample seating for family and friends to relax. Our favorite area is the front porch... lounge chairs and chaises and more. We could relax and watch the fireflies, enjoy the full moon rising, and the horses in Judy's pasture nearby. Very private gated property with a 3/4 mile driveway.
We walked and ran the 4 miles of trails, explored the labyrinth, played disc golf, fished in the stocked trout stream. This is by far the best Vrbo we have ever experienced.
It felt like Narnia... and there is even a large wardrobe or two. :) Two beautiful bears ambled by - one in the meadow and one by the waterfall.. magical.
We hope to return with our family in the future.

We had an absolutely amazing time staying at Wintersun for a long weekend and an intimate wedding. The grounds and house exceeded all expectations from the listing and our research. The house was truly incredible, offering plenty of room for us to gather together while also providing spaces for privacy. The grounds were breathtakingly beautiful, exceptionally quiet, and peaceful. We will definitely be returning one day in the future and are grateful to Judy for allowing us to use Wintersun for an absolutely incredible weekend.

I returned to Asheville for my 30 year high school reunion with a group of close friends. Wintersun was an amazing location that offered so many options. Sitting on the front porch and simply enjoying the views (which included wild turkeys, deer, hawks and a local horse) while catching up with old friends was likely my favorite. The trout filled stream, frisbee golf courses and hiking paths were some of the other enjoyed amenities. Perfect spot and this group will return for sure. Thank you for sharing your beautiful and special property!

Incredible property with a short but interesting history of its development. Custom built to be a resort retreat for Non-Profit executives/employees. Operated as a high end B&B / Inn for over a decade. Every bedroom has a full bathroom and every room has a working gas fireplace. Beautifully landscaped and very well cared for.

This property is amazing. Five couples met up for a friend reunion and this location accommodated us perfectly with each couple having their own bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen was great for cooking several meals and hanging out. We are already discussing a return trip.

Another great trip to Wintersun! We love this place! Chilling, hiking, going in to Asheville and doing all the fun stuff there. We even introduced a “Murder Mystery Party” one night at the Manor! That was just too much fun like the rest of the weekend! See you next year!

We had a wonderful Christmas with our family at Wintersun. The house was beautifully decorated for the holiday and has everything you may need to enjoy your stay. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch by the fire pit in the mornings while deer and the horses grazed. We had some great hikes around the property and nearby. The kids enjoyed roaming the house and rolling down the grass in the front yard. I was slightly skeptical of the number of 5* reviews but everything was true. You can tell that this house is someone’s passion project and an incredible amount of love has gone into it over the years. We would absolutely return and hope to again in the future.

We stayed here and hosted a micro wedding on the property (20 people) and it was incredible! The house was large enough to have 10 people stay there plus have additional guests to hangout and didn’t feel crammed. The attention to detail of the property is incredible. Had a great time playing disc golf and walking around. Can’t wait to come back!

We just love this property. It is the second time we have stayed at Wintersun. What a comfortable and special place. The hiking trails, labyrinth and evenings on the front porch with the fire pits roaring watching the beautiful mountain sunsets. Close to Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Stayed with a group of friends to celebrate my brother getting married. We were all constantly blown away by how beautiful the property was inside and out. It was such a wonderful and unique experience for all of us. From checking in to checking out, this was an awesome place to stay. The property is breathtaking, the house is beautiful, and the area is so much fun. Whether you’re looking to hunker down in the house for your whole stay, to traveling around the grounds and surrounding area (Asheville) there is something for you. We played a little bit of disk golf as well as walked around the trails traversing the property and had a great time. We also went into Asheville to visit some shops and breweries. No matter what you’re looking to do, this is a great place to stay to do it all. We will absolutely be back and have already talked about making this a yearly trip we all make. The house comfortably accommodated the 10 of us for both rooms and cooking. If you’re looking to stay for the weekend, or longer, I would recommend staying at the Wintersun Inn!

Wintersun has a perfect name. The first and third nights of our three day stay, the ten members of our group sat out on the front porch and enjoyed beautiful sunsets, talked and enjoyed cocktails. On the second and middle night, we sat around the fire in the kitchen den at sunset because of the cold breeze coming up the mountain. Of course this did not effect the quality of the conversation or consumption of beverages.
The home itself is fantastic! Beautifully appointed and maintained. The owner Judy could not have been more helpful. She had also thought of everything and even had directions on most appliances and the fireplaces that made it easy to feel at home.
I think everyone in our group had a great time and would love to come back in future years.

We just returned from a long weekend at Wintersun and it exceeded our expectations in every way. This is an incredible property and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had 4 couples in our group and we had plenty of room to spread out and relax. We spent the weekend hiking, cooking, playing games, reading and enjoying the gorgeous views.
The house is incredibly well stocked and the owners even graciously provided coffee and all the fixings. The beds were super comfortable and we certainly enjoyed the fireplaces in the bedrooms which made for a very cozy stay.
We cannot recommend Wintersun highly enough! It’s a rare treat to be able to experience this special place. Thank you so much!

We always love our stays at Wintersun! Judy is so easy to deal with and takes good care of us. We think of this place as little Biltmore except we get to enjoy every bit of it! Every year we come, we extend our stay by a day. Not sure what we will do next year but we are definitely coming! The house, the grounds, the views, the hikes, it's all too relaxing! We had a delightful stay over a long weekend, facilitated by a courteous and communicative host. The home/inn is lavishly furnished, making for a great place to spend a cold winter night in front of the fire. And a walk around the property on mountain trails, followed by a sit on the front porch is a great way to spend an afternoon. Wonderful place for a (large) family.

What a beautiful and unique property. Above everything, we loved the privacy and tranquility, that is exactly what we were looking for. The house sits at the top of the hill at the end of a long paved driveway, winding through a forest and pastures, a bridge over a creek, the views from the front porch are amazing, you honestly do not want to leave. Inside you will find 5 ensuite bedrooms (large master down, the rest up), wood floors throughout, super comfy beds, everything extremely clean. Oh, and gorgeous fireplaces in each room (9 in total)! Judy the host was so kind to have the place still decorated for our arrival on New Years Day. I am so grateful she is offering her amazing home to others to enjoy as well, a truly one of a kind experience that we'll never forget. We'll definitely come back, thank you again!

I had booked Wintersun for my girls weekend birthday trip. Upon booking I immediately received a welcome message with info and recommendations for our stay. The property and house are kept immaculate. They really thought of the smallest details to ensure our stay was wonderful; lights were on when arrived, dining room table was set, and house was decorated for Christmas (just beautiful). All the beds were extremely comfortable. We loved the massive porch! We did wish, since it was colder during our stay, if there was a heat source on the porch. Like a little gas heater coffee table or something along those lines. We have already said we will be booking again!

It was exactly as I imagined, if not better. Our family occupied all 5 bedrooms, and everyone had plenty of space to spread out. We were there because my daughter got married in Asheville, so we used it for home base. I would love to go back again.

We loved our stay at Wintersun. We had 5 couples and there was plenty of space for everyone. We loved so many things, such as; 5 en-suite bedrooms, multiple seating spaces that fit all 10 of us (not easy to find in rentals), large dining room, beautiful views, private hiking trails (did not need to drive to hike), and lastly all the decorations. It was easy to tell of the love that has gone into making Wintersun. We even had an Afternoon Tea that including dressing up with ascots and fasinators. What fun as we felt right in place.
We have been renting in the fall for the last 15 years and this is the first place that I can truly say that I want to come back to. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Enjoyed a great stay here for my daughters wedding weekend. Location and facility worked perfect for us. The house and property are exceptional and we hade plenty of space for a family of 8 adults. All of the kitchen supplies were available to have a brunch for all the bridesmades at the house the day of the wedding and the master bath is a perfext place for having hair and makeup done. Did have some difficulty with the ovens but Judy responded very quickly and came to help us out. Would love to return for a weekend of just relaxing

Our stay at Wintersun was wonderful! The house and grounds are amazing - so well tended and kept up nicely. The house was perfect for 6 “old” girlfriends celebrating over 60 years of friendship. The house is huge and every room was so grandly furnished. The best part was the huge Front porch where we spent many hours chatting and laughing and celebrating our friendship - and taking in the beautiful views from every direction! Great location for our trips into Asheville and Hendersonville. We highly recommend this lovely estate and hope to return soon!!
