We had a great weekend at the Artist’s House. The view and beach access were some of the best parts, including eating meals outside.
The house is incredibly well equipped, especially the kitchen. There was every type of cooking tool you could even imagine needing and there was a huge array of dish-ware. The rest of the house had plenty of towels, outdoor towels, outdoor blankets, deck chairs, etc. There was nothing else we needed!
It did take us a minute to figure out where to dispose of the trash/recycling. For those that come after us and read this review, there is a woodshed building in the garden that has bins of trash, recyclables (plastic/cans/cardboard), and glass.
We had such a lovely time and will happily come back.

This is a little drive off the beaten path and not within Port Townsend itself, but it had everything my family needed. Managed to do a little work in the upper office, yoga on the little wooden deck overhanging the ocean, beach walks, and plenty of time staring out the windows.
We would plan to cook more at home next time, as the kitchen is very well-equipped. We also brought binoculars, as you will want to be searching for wildlife and trying to read the names on the boats.
Thank you!

Great views of Admiralty Inlet at the start of Puget Sound. Quiet country location, a little dusty and rustic inside but all necessities for the family.

Little remote if you are heading to the rain forest or other locations on the Olympic Peninsula, but nice house and awesome location on the water. Super peaceful. Really enjoyed the eclectic décor and doing research on the prior owner/artist. You can tell it was owned by an artistic personality. If you want a spacious home with amazing views, this is for you.

This was an unforgettable stay. We enjoyed the deck and the incredible views, made dinners together in the well appointed kitchen, and the youngest among us played the piano every day. We walked the beach, cooked steaks on the grill, and drifted off to sleep to the sound of lapping waves. We can't wait to come back!

Loved the home, layout, view, etc. Nice main bedroom and mattress. Only improvement Is suggest is to the downstairs couches. Not very comfortable for us. But everything else was fantastic.

We rented this home for the weekend of my daughter’s wedding. By the end of the weekend, I was getting used to the quirkiness and figuring out all of the light switches. The view is incredible and being able to wake up to the sunrise daily and beachcomb was awesome. The downside is that the house was dirty. The sheets on the upstairs bed were dirty with hair and grass on them. When we walked into the house, there were Cheetos on one of the side tables and on the floor. I slid out the microwave to get something that had dropped behind and it was so dirty I just left what had fallen back there. It was just generally dirty which was really unfortunate. I would stay again but I would come with my own bedding and prepared to clean.

This was a great spot to get out of town and have some solitude. The views will consume a lot of your time.

This property popped up as Port townsend accommodation with our google search. We were a bit surprised at how far it was, but it was such a treat! Otters having breakfast, sea lions, seals, hummingbirds, and warm sunny days. The ships passing through were also a big excitement for our kids. We really didn’t want to leave, and hope to come back!
The kitchen is also very well-equipped and the whole place had a great feel. We didn’t discover the separate suite until our last day, but would to have needed anyway. The stairs are pretty rustic and we had to keep stressing to our kids to walk slowly and hold the railings.

The access to the beach is awesome. Beware if you have small children/pets that there is a section of stairs with a platform that has no wall/railing that could be fallen off of and the stairs crank up at the bottom, so don't let little ones/pets rush ahead without you. The views from the house are spectacular. So much to see out the window/from the deck. The house was in desperate need of a deep clean and the sheets were not clean on the bed- we had to strip them, wash them, and put different sheets on. There was dust/ dead bugs on windowsills and lots of cobwebs. There was also a spider web and we saw multiple spiders inside the house. The furniture is mid-century modern and very uncomfortable. The "DVD library" was about 5 DVDs and three of them were musical performances. Dances with Wolves was the only title we recognized. There was no foosball table as stated in the listing.

Nice home, great location!
The home is a nice place that is very private and has a fantastic view. The living room and master bedroom both have large picture windows with amazing views of puget sound and Whidbey island. There is a nice deck overlooking the sound, with a stairway that accesses the private beach. There is a caretaker that lives on the property, but she’s very friendly and she doesn’t bother anyone.
The house is decorated with mid century modern furniture, which looks cool but is not very comfortable, the kitchen is very functional, and well stocked with pans, dishes, and utensils. We cooked several meals and found the kitchen to be very nice. There is a grand piano in the living room, which is great if you play, but otherwise it takes up too much space, space that could be used for more furniture. The nearest store is 15-20 minutes away. Internet is good. There is a tv with Netflix. There are a couple board games, but I’d bring your own. If you have small kids, watch the around the deck and stairs, they aren’t very safe.
Just a few complaints- the house is COLD when you check in. There are electric heaters, but they take forever to heat. There is a working wood stove, and the house is stocked with some wood, but I suggest bringing kindling or duraflame logs. Also; the master bathroom has no blinds on the large picture windows which means that unless you don’t mind showing the neighbors your bits and bobs, you’ll have to use the downstairs bathroom.
We had a circuit breaker trip whilst there and had to call VRBO to find it (behind a picture in the small bedroom)
Overall it was a good stay, and I would definitely stay there again. More so if they upgrade to more comfortable furniture.

Very nice setting. It was a clear day and we could see Mt Rainier, Mt Baker and Glacier Peak. The next day was cloudy and a bit stormy but we still had the view of rainbows and ships transiting the water between Marrowstone and Whidbey Islands.
The open setting makes for a very nice gathering space.

Nice place, poor property management
This place is quite lovely, we absolutely loved the house decor and the incredible views. The main floor has a really great layout that is open yet provides enough space for everyone to find their own quiet corner. The neighborhood is quiet and away from noise - exactly what we wanted! Plus, the beach is easily accessible and you can walk for miles.
One strange thing about the house is that the shower head in the master bath is outside the glass enclosure, which has the effect of spraying water all over the bathroom while you shower. Another item of note (it wasn't a problem for us at all) is that the master bedroom isn't really a bedroom - there's no door to the downstairs that can be closed.
The biggest challenge we had with our stay wasn't with the property itself, but rather with the management company. Our stay was in the middle of January and the place was ice cold (51 degrees) when we arrived. We started up the heaters, which work well, but took overnight to warm up. There is a fireplace that would have speeded things up, but the management company did not leave us any kindling. We called the local number to ask for some (and also inquire about where to put the garbage - there were no instructions on that and no bins outside) and got a voicemail that told us to call a 24-hour 1-800 number. After 40 minutes on hold with the 1-800 number, we gave up. I shudder to think what would happen if we had encountered a true emergency.
In all, we recommend this place and may stay here again, despite the customer service limitations.

Lovely secluded home. The views are stunning.
This is a lovely secluded area. The house is beautiful and very clean. The house has everything you need. It is close to town if you want to go. Our one suggestion for the owners is to have an information booklet about where things are. We got in when it was dark. The house is primarily heated by a wood pot-bellied stove, which is perfect for heating this home. The problem is there was one match, no newspaper, and two pieces of wood. We had no instructions about where to find the wood pile. The second day we finally found some instructions taped to the wall behind the washer. Other than that I would stay there again in a minute.

Away from it all
This is a lovely property in an amazing setting. We were there in 25-degree weather and snow-covered streets so getting out and about was not much of an option. Luckily, the property is very comfortable and the views are stunning from the huge front windows. We just hunkered down and enjoyed watching the ships pass. It is furnished with beautiful mid century modern furniture and amazing art and sculptures on every wall. I especially like the pieces in the bedroom upstairs. Really, a nice place to stay. I only gave 3 stars for the communication because there really wasn't anyway to contact the property owner. We had an issue with a space heater and a flipped fuse - luckily, we were able to find the circuit box on our own as there was no way to contact the property manager outside of emailing/calling Vacasa.

Brrr!
A wonderful spot for a family get-away but not really ideal in extremely cold temps (not the owner's fault, of course). Yes, there is a wood stove to supplement the electric wall and plug-in heaters, but using the wall heat made for a constant loudness that is maddening (especially in the separate unit from the main house). Fabulous natural lighting and view; well-stocked kitchen and woodpile. The house was clean and lovely and a handsome and friendly caretaker dog lives nearby.

Wonderful location and view
The view from this house is stunning and that was certainly our primary reason for booking. We enjoyed the open living room area with the piano, and the home was well stocked. However, a few improvements could really take this home to the next level. First, when we arrived (a December booking), the house was literally freezing. The heat had been turned all the way down, and it took hours for the home to heat up even after we started a fire. We were left shivering with our winter coats on inside the house - so it would have been nice to at least have the heat turned on a bit to avoid that. The other change I would recommend is the couch in the tv area. I'm not too picky about furniture, but this was the least comfortable couch we have ever sat on and made watching a movie really tough. Finally - the tv set up. It would be nice to update the outdated Blu Ray player (that took dozens of tries to finally work), with a DVD player or better yet, a Netflix account. Low tech is fine - but advertising it as a working system with a "movie library" (we only found two movies in the house) is not quite accurate and could be fixed fairly inexpensively. The house is definitely quirky in a good way, but these easy fixes would make it a more comfortable place to stay.

Wonderful water views
Water views are incredible. We saw a pod of orcas one day, wish the fog hadn't hampered our views or I'm sure we would have seen them again. Very dog friendly property and lots of beachcombing opportunities. Wifi is spotty so I wouldn't recommend if you had to work while on vacation. Lots of wildlife at Fort Flagler too, deer, raccoon. Great for hiking, lots to explore.

Already Miss This Gem Of A House!
The views from the house are magnificent! We spent a fun week touring the island. Went into Port Townsend almost every day because it was so charming. Enjoying a day of sailing with Sail Port Townsend, the owner Amber is awesome! Great oysters at Salty Girls in town. Cannot brag enough about our stay here and the quiet walks on the beach below the house. We took our Beagle and he had a blast!

Amazing home!
This is the second time we've stayed here and the second time we've loved it. MASSIVE home with a guest suite we never even went into. Stunning views of the Sound, otters and birth galore off the beach, direct water access, and it's right on the shipping lane so lots of passing ships (including a nuclear submarine!) for the kids to look at. Fully (and I do mean FULLY) stocked kitchen was great for cooking. Looking forward to our third visit.

There is something sort of European about the place in a non-affected way. The well-loved, well-used home practically reverberates with the life that was lived in it. It is well worth reading about the sculptor who lived here with his family. The foodie kitchen is equipped like no other rental. Easy access to a beautiful non-crowded beach. We adored every minute of our stay, cooked great meals with our friends, relaxed, read, watched the sea life, ships, bald eagles - just as others have done for decades.

Great weekend get away or longer
We stayed here for the weekend and it was great. The place is beautiful and well maintained. Views are phenomenal and the in-laws had their own in-law suite . If there was one negative, the two twin beds are squeaking. The deck and the views from upstairs are super and getting to the beach is super. We will come back for sure.

Amazing views!
Wonderful break from being stuck in the city during the last year of pandemic - very private, and absolutely beautiful, panoramic views. The kitchen was very spacious and we enjoyed a few home cooked dinners during our stay. Also loved the wood stove during our first couple stormy nights (very cozy!) The beach was extremely private and so convenient that we hardly left the property during our time here, so much fun to beach-comb and run along the waves with our dog. I think we saw maybe 4 other people the whole time we were here!
A couple suggestions:
Please have a prominent warning present about the stairs to the beach - the last leg down is a crank stair, and is cranked up by default. Our dog went ahead of us and walked out onto the suspended stairway and almost fell - very scary moment! Would be nice to have a sign warning about this at the top of the stairs, as a heads up to all dog-owners (or those with kids!) to keep a careful watch on the descent down.
The TV/Netflix was not working for us, it appeared to be disconnected or missing an HDMI cable. Luckily we didn't visit for the purpose of watching TV :) but worth noting.
The listing also states that there is foosball table, but we did not see one anywhere. Perhaps we missed it - and not a major gripe at all - but as foosball enthusiasts we were a little disappointed.
Otherwise - truly wonderful trip! We left feeling so recharged, and would definitely come back. Very much recommend to anyone looking for some quality beach time!
