About this house rental
A classic mid century brick home in the heart of some of the best restaurants and night life in Portland. The comfortable home sleeps six with a sunny patio to enjoy, and peaceful yard with a giant Deodora cedar tree.
You’ll be located a block from the junction of 28th and Belmont on a picturesque residential street, with easy access to the Belmont district, 28th Avenue “Restaurant Row”, Kerns, Burnside, Hawthorne and Division St/Clinton districts. If you are comfortable walking, cycling, and taking the bus you don’t need a car. The bus 15 is a block away, and takes you downtown, and to the Pearl District and NW 23rd, and connects with the light rail system (MAX), in the other direction it takes you to Mt Tabor Park. It takes about 45 minutes to walk the 2.2 miles to downtown’s Pioneer Courthouse Square along a pleasant route. Laurelhurst Park and Colonel Summers Park are each within 10 blocks. Whole Foods, and Safeway grocery stores are about a half mile. New Seasons and Fred Meyers grocery stores are about a mile away.
The specifics ... this mid century duplex was designed by the architect who lived next door, for his son. The units are side by side, and sited on a peaceful 14,000 sq ft lot. The large yard provides a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city. The current owners live in the other half of the duplex, and are happy to be a resource for information and advice on your stay in Portland. The home is approximately 1500 sq ft with 2 bedrooms on the main floor, each with a queen sized bed. Upstairs is a bedroom with 2 twin sized beds. The main floor bathroom is opposite the bedrooms, and at the base of the stairs from the upstairs bedroom. The main floor has hardwoods throughout. The living room has two couches and chairs and opens to a sunny front porch sitting area. The dining room has a table that sits six. There is a flat screen TV with network and internet TV. Comcast internet and WiFi is available. There’s a full kitchen with all the basics to cook for your self but with all the fun food choices in walking distance you’ll be tempted to eat out or order in. The basement has an informal family room and full bathroom with stand alone shower (no tub). The basement also provides bike storage, and a laundry area. There is a high efficiency gas forced air furnace, and central air conditioning. One main floor bedroom has a height adjustable desk and desk chair. The other main floor bedroom has a small desk.

House was clean and in great location. Plenty of room for the four of us.

We stay here every year. We bring other family members to visit our adult children in the area. We love it. The house is perfect for our needs: clean, bright, spacious, comfortable, and well stocked. Laurie is lovely and helpful. There are improvements to the property every year, which means an already amazing stay keeps getting better. The location is convenient to great restaurants, shops, parks and walks. Use of the driveway and easy departures for day trips to vineyards, mountains, rivers, and the ocean make this a fantastic vacation spot.

This home is an excellent location for a Portland stay. The kitchen is well furnished for cooking, the second bathroom downstairs has a cozy wall heater, the beds and linens are clean and comfortable, and we appreciated the non-toxic toiletries and dish cleaning products. Communication with the host is effortless.

We were up for a home improvement week helping our kids with their older home, and stayed at this perfect home for our needs! Great quiet location, plenty of parking for two larger trucks on the street, super clean home, great bathrooms, roomy family room to relax after long days of work. We will definitely be staying here again as we come for future visits! A+++

The house was super clean and very, very well arranged for our family of 4 adults. Just fyi, there is a door at the botttom of the stairs to the 3rd bedroom, providing privacy. (We weren’t sure from the listing.) The residential neighborhood is beautiful, full of lovely craftsman houses. We loved walking to beautiful Laurelhurst Park every morning. We felt very safe walking in the neighborhood. The house is equally close to a huge Safeway in one direction and Whole Foods in the other. There are lots of restaurants close by. The a/c worked great during a heat wave.

This was our third stay. This time my 89 yr old Dad and his wife joined us. We had a wonderful time visiting my son and his girlfriend. We took walks, talked over coffee, cooked dinner, dined out, went on road trips, and played games in the house. It is the perfect house, in the perfect location. We love staying there.

The property was centrally located surrounded by charming houses. The place was comfortable and plenty of room. The owner does live next door, and as we had an old friend visiting, I was concerned needlessly that our late night reminiscing might be disturbing. This never seemed to be an issue and we did respect the house rules as agreed upon. It is a clean, open space with room for up to 8, with 2 more beds upstairs. Having lived in Portland before, the location couldn't have been better. We absolutely had a great time!

This is a well equipped rental in a very walkable neighborhood. The bedrooms are cozy, the kitchen has most everything you might need, and the living room and dining room are light filled and lovely, looking out over the beautiful trees that make Portland such a visual treat.
This is our second time visiting this house. It has maintained all of the attributes that I looked for the first time. The hosts are friendly, and get back to any inquiries quickly. We had a very relaxing get-away.

House was clean and ready upon arrival, which was LATE due to delayed flights. Laurie left the lights on for us, which was a welcome gesture.
House is close to a bus line, which made it easy to get around.

Portland getaway
This house was so cute and clean! We loved the openness of the floorplan and the large bay window in the den, as well as the basement space. The beds were all so comfortable and the bedding was so amazing that I came right home and ordered exactly the same for our beds! The property owners were so gracious and there were fresh flowers in every room. We had a wonderful time and we will be requesting this property again when we return to Portland in the future.

Perfect stay
Clean, bright, lots of space. Kitchen, bathroom, and laundry have everything you need. Great location on a quiet street with a lovely, private yard. Closet full of games, smart TV, maps and travel guides. There’s no reason to look elsewhere. I love this spot.

Felt like home
Stayed here on our visit from NY to visit my son. The house is clean, comfortable, light filled, and quiet. The rooms are thoughtfully appointed with everything you need, while also feeling airy and uncluttered. It was the perfect spot to hang out, share meals, do art, watch movies, etc. The location is great for walking, eating, and day trips. This is the spot for me. I would plan my trip to stay here again. My favorite VRBO experience to date.

Wonderful, charming home
This home was fantastic! It is much bigger than the pictures make it seem, and there was plenty of room for us to get settled in and spread out and feel comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet but so close to almost everything we wanted to do. Our only issue was that there aren't many 3-prong outlets (the home is older) - there are several in the bathroom, but only one bedroom had 3-prong outlets in the outlet strip. Other than than rather minor inconvenience, our stay was fabulous and we would definitely stay here again!

House on S.E. 28th ave.
The house worked well enough for our purposes and owners were responsive and helpful. Main drawback was only one convenient bathroom for three bedrooms. Also one room needs a more comfortable mattress.

Quiet, nice, great location!
We enjoyed our stay at the Buckman Neighborhood. It was quiet, spacious, well decorated and in a great location. The beds were very comfortable and the private parking spot was nice to use. Laurie was such a friendly and welcoming host. We had a great time!

Great home, great location
Laurie’s property is as described in the pictures plus a modern bathroom w shower downstairs. Everything is well thought out: blow dryer, laundry detergent, shampoo, etc. kitchen is fully equipped relative to pots and pans, dishes, culinary gadgets. You do need to bring coffee, spices, etc. which is to be expected. We had a great time using public transportation to go to the Rose Garden and other downtown attractions. The bus was very simple and close. The food trucks are about 3 blocks away and became a routine for dinner. Lots of yummy choices. You are able to park in the driveway so no hunting for a parking space despite the downtown location. Used the rental car to go to the coast and hike Multnomah Falls (both are must-do’s) for those who like outdoor activities. Laurie’s home is spotless. Highly recommend!

Comfortable base for extended stay
We found this property for our two-week stay in Portland. We have three young children and wanted room for them to play inside and outside. This house met all of our needs. Everything is comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked, and the location is quiet but accessible. It is an older house--reminded me of my grandma's house in happy ways--so it wasn't luxurious. Matt and Laurie answered our questions and checked on us through the app but otherwise left us to our own devices. We appreciated that there are two grocery stores less than a mile away, and lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. The biggest attractions in Portland are 10-15 minute drive, so this house was very convenient for all of our sightseeing. I also appreciated having a driveway instead of trying to find street parking. One thing potential visitors should know is that there is a very nice bathroom in the otherwise unfinished basement. If you have mobility issues, that bathroom isn't accessible. Our family mostly just shared the bathroom on the main floor because our kids didn't like going into the basement alone. Overall, happy with our stay here and we would stay here again if traveling with our children.

It was Divine Guidance 🙏
The rental property was just perfect for my family 4 & its layout. Its location is just short distance to downtown. My son officiated a well attended destination wedding & the venue is over a mile from this property. It is walking distance to nice eateries, bus stops. The place is clean, cozy & comfy with good beds, Downs comforters, soft sheets, plenty of large towels.. It’s a home away from home. Matt & Laurie were very considerate & kind to our requests .I highly recommend this place if you plan of staying for 7 days or beyond. Love those fresh flowers in every room. Again, thank you so much!!!

Convenience and value
We have rented 7 VRBO properties over the past 6 years. Not only is the Belmont property inexpensive for what one gets, it is very convenient to restaurants, shops, etc. As such we walked to shop and for breakfast at Cricket (highly recommended ). Our best revisited restaurants: La Moule and Broder; best new one: Chachka.

Spring Break
Laurie and Matt's house worked very well for us East Coast grandparents to meet our southern Oregon son and granddaughter in Portland for her Spring Break. There were many conveniences in being in that neighborhood, from multiple grocery options to a variety of restaurants and shops, and the house was central to exploring other areas in Portland. The house itself was well appointed, with a fully equipped kitchen, a variety of games and books, laundry facilities, and very comfortable beds and soft linens. While it did not affect our family, the second bathroom in the basement area might be difficult to reach for those unable to tackle stairs or for young children to navigate there on their own. The third bedroom on the upper level (generous in size, with twin beds) also requires stairs and using the bathroom on the main floor. Laurie and Matt, the owners, were very responsive, from our first inquiry through our week there. We were welcomed with a beautiful vase of tulips on the dining room table and other flowers in the three bedrooms on our arrival. They live next door, so are available for assistance or advice, if needed. We would not hesitate to rent this house again if we visit Portland with family.

Comfortable and homey
The duplex is clean and well maintained with comfortable beds and plenty of homey touches. The neighborhood is convenient for walking in Lone Fir Cemetery as well as restaurants and shops. The property is lovely and well kept. Laurie and Matt were helpful when needed and otherwise honored my privacy. I recommend this rental.

Very clean and comfortable
The house was extremely clean and updated. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were high quality. Everything you need is within walking distance. There were products that were left by previous renters which was great for us since we traveled across country. We also left some supplies for the next renters. Made life a lot easier.

Lovely, quiet retreat
We came with family for the Thanksgiving week, and just loved this place of Laurie and Matt's. It is in a lovely neighborhood, with huge, lush trees. The nieghborhood is full of big,old houses, yet very private. The home is adjacent to Laurie and Matt's. They were very available and very respectful of our price. The home was pristine and welcoming at the same time. Well supplied to make our visit comfortable. I hope we can return!

Very roomy
We stayed for the week while my mom was at OHSU recovering from a major surgery. The commute was short and easy, basically a big loop from Belmont back around to Harrison. The area was quiet but very close to shops, cafes and interesting stores with Safeway 2 city blocks away. The house had everything we needed, except a crock pot ;). The beds were comfortable and the neighborhood was safe. Great stay, Thank you!

Great!
We had a wonderful stay at this house. So much room for my family. The kitchen was very well stocked, and although we didn't use it very much because we were in and out so much, it was great to be able to make toast and grab a quick cup of coffee. The beds were very comfortable and lots of nice fluffy towels in the bathroom. I highly recommend this house for your stay in the Portland area.
