About this house rental
The Retro House
Movie Colony East neighborhood
City ID #003103 TOT Permit #3085
This is undoubtedly one of the coolest mid century modern homes in Palm Springs. With its original kitchen and colorful tiled bathrooms in beautiful condition, plus all the modern conveniences and recently renovated throughout, this home is ready to enjoy in retro style. Impeccably preserved and maintained over the years, this home was clearly almost never used by the original owners. It’s impressive enough that it’s been featured in the Modernism Week Signature Home Tour, a carefully curated tour of the best of Desert Modern Architecture, featuring homes chosen for their architecture, interiors, gardens, iconic features and grounds… those that epitomize Palm Springs and what makes life and architecture in the desert unique.
From the front entry of this comfortable 2,352 square foot home, guests are immediately welcomed by the home’s signature roofline and original architectural features and colors, plus all the newly installed Scandinavian modern furnishings and unique artwork. Just inside the entry hall to the right is the living room with fireplace, 65 inch HDTV and plenty of lounge seating for everyone. This is the perfect place to gather for cocktails before dinner. The adjacent dining room also has a fireplace, and boasts a huge oval dining table with seating for up to 12 hungry friends. The breakfast room and kitchen are just off the dining room, where you’ll find everything you need to cook and bartend for your entire group. There are two guest bedrooms off the kitchen, each with a queen size bed, HDTV, one with an awesome west view through its corner windows, and both are near the first guest bathroom with step in shower. The laundry room is also located at this end of the house, with access to the pool deck, as well as the driveway.
At the north end of the house, to the left of the front entrance, you’ll find the master bedroom with a king bed, HDTV, private bathroom with tub shower and original tilework, and direct access to the pool deck. Across the hall is a guest bedroom with king bed, HDTV, nice view out to the hedged front courtyard and direct access to the guest bathroom, so it can double as a second master bedroom. The last guest bedroom is adjacent to the guest bath with tub shower, and offers a queen bed, courtyard view and HDTV.
The real magic happens out back, where you'll step out to the refreshing and sparkling blue original kidney-shaped saltwater swimming pool, as well as the matching spa. The landscaping is a combination of natural desert scape and artificial turf to add color and texture around the sunning pads and lounge furniture. There is also a natural gas fire feature next to the spa for the ultimate in evening cocktail lounging and enjoying the mountain and architectural view back to the west over the house. You’ll also appreciate the outdoor dining (dining table for 10 is not pictured), fireplace and lounging options under the covered patio, and the natural gas fired barbecue grill. All combined, this is the quintessential Palm Springs poolside retreat!
There is also a two car garage and parking for two or three more cars in the driveway. Directly across the street is Ruth Hardy Park, with public tennis courts and play areas for the little vacationers. This home is also just a short walk to uptown Palm Springs, where you’ll find all the newest and hippest restaurants, shops and galleries the desert has to offer. It just doesn’t get better than this!

The property management company team is rude, it seems that they are only interested to get the paperwork signed so they have their side covered. You have to drive quite far to check-in and sign papers, then drive back on check-out to return keys otherwise they charge you. For us that didn't have a car it was extremely inconvenient and expense with so many Uber rides. They don't answer the phone, only email, but they are very good about sending message to remind us that we cannot even chat outside.
One of our showers didn't work and the management company didn't care for it. Someone showed to the property to check on us and we mentioned for the second time that the shower was not working and nothing was done.
The floor of the house was not well clean and there was not enough toilet paper for 10 people.

Great Location, awesome home, beautiful old school design. Only snag it having to pick up and drop off keys about 10min drive away. Would stay there again.

The house is fun and funky. The backyard and pool area are very nice and even though it was 110*, we still enjoyed a bit of fire pit time because it was so pretty. Now, when you pull up to the house to enter it from the driveway, I was a bit concerned but once you get inside, it’s nice. The air conditioning works fine but took awhile (like 12 hours) to cool certain rooms that face the sunny side but once it did cool, it was fine.
We totally enjoyed ourselves and was a much needed getaway

Perfect Family Rental Home!
This house was perfect! Great for family vacation. All you need to bring are your bathing suits and food. Everything else is there. 5 bedrooms with very comfortable beds are spread through the large home so provides privacy. The backyard pool area is perfect. Kitchen is well equipped. Didn't want to leave! Will definitely be back! Thanks for the GREAT Holiday!

Pool & Fire Pit are as good as it looks!
We had a great stay at this vacation rental. It has a lot of space and the backyard is as good as the pictures show. We enjoyed the days by the pool, and nights at the fire pit. There is a large portion of the patio under the roof to get out of the sun. At first it is a little disorienting getting inside because the front entrance is not at the driveway. So you go in by the garage and through a narrow hallway. The first thing you see is the washer and dryer. But after that the place is great. Lots of space for 10 people.

The house is spacious and management service was responsive (gas fire pit by spa had a broken turn on valve that was fixedly the next day. Iron and ironing board brought right away).
Smaller bedrooms didn’t have dressers so a little inconvenient with unpacking. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner and there was adequate cooking utensils and pans etc. plenty of seating for the 7 of us and we liked having bedrooms on opposite ends for quiet and privacy. Good location. Charming but old so sliding door is difficult to close and made a loud bang. Lots of lighting and genuine Palm Springs home. We had a wonderful stay

Beautiful setting. Mid century was charming. Outdoors was great. We all loved the heated pool & spa

We had a fine time here and were grateful to have enough bedrooms for our families. However, it has shortcomings - there's just general wear and tear all around - the windows are single pane and don't close too well, the air conditioner doesn't cool the house evenly, the sliding doors don't slide too smoothly. The kitchen was the main disappointment - it has plenty of dishes and the grill was great. But, the oven didn't work (it took 3 hrs to bake a cake), or it'd randomly beep with some failure code on the dash, and the only solution was to turn it off at the circuit breaker. We could not use it. There were almost no useful, basic cooking utensils...no grater, no decent knives, no juicer, no working vegetable peeler. I'd look elsewhere before coming back.

Pros: Let me start this off by saying the house is adorable if you like the vintage look! I would actually give this property 3.5 stars if I could. Beds and couches were comfy, pool was refreshing (lots of bugs though, we had to clean it the mornings the pool cleaners didn't come). The house is in an awesome location, a short Lyft from downtown! It's also very soundproof, which is helpful with the city laws. It came with almost everything that we needed- pool and bath towels, cooking utensils/items- only thing it could've used were some pool floats lol. It was very clean also.
Cons: The A/C sucks- it literally only cools the dining and living rooms; each of the bedrooms came with ceiling fans, which didn't help much (and 1 room didn't work at all and the property managers never fixed it even though there was an email/call about it- could've been a miscommunication though). One of the showers didn't drain until 10 minutes after you were out and the garage door opener didn't work (but that didn't bother me that much, the driveway fits 5 cars as long as they aren't all huge). Also, the oven was off, it wasn't cooking food properly.
The worst thing about this trip was the city's laws- I get it, people live here full time and have jobs and everything, so I respect/understand them, but don't plan girls trips or bachelorette trips here anymore, save it for family vacations.

House was great! Well maintained, had (almost) everything we needed.
Minor issues: no measuring cup/working can opener, garage clicker didn't work, and it wasn't clear to me that in order to have hot tub heat I also would have needed to pay for pool heat. The grass in the back is actually AstroTurf so it gets super hot. Otherwise, air con worked great, house and yard were clean and well maintained, and I would definitely visit again!

Nice property and was very well located and convenient to the main part of town. Well decorated and comfortable!

clearly the property is NOT kept up, very disappointed
For over a thousand dollars a night, the accommodations should be above and beyond. For that amount of money, they should at the very least be in working order. This property unfortunately could not meet that standard.
After buying hundreds of dollars worth of food to cook and enjoy, I came to find out the oven did not work.
Sitting outside with dinner put together without the use of an oven, I came to find out the fire pit did not work.
Waking up the next morning, I came to find out the refrigerator, filled with food we could not cook, was not working properly. Everything I bought was warm, much of it uneatable without risk.
When you book a house for over a thousand dollars a night, and simple things like an oven, a fire pit, and fridge don't work, there is a very serious problem with the property, and the manager should have known that.
I am thoroughly disappointed with this booking.
Aside from those large problems, simple things like drawer handles were falling from their screws. This place had many problems.
When approaching the management about this problem, we were not able to get these problems fixed before our departure. We received a $100 gift card to Ralphs for food which we could not cook in the oven (still), a couple ice chests for the drinks we could cool down, and an apology with the promise of a follow up phone call for further discussion, something which never came (the reason I am writing this review days after the fact was to give this manager ample time to call me, which he/she never did).
I don't know what more I can say, other than stay away. If I had known, there is no way I would have ever trusted this property.
