About this house rental
The home is perched above the ocean with views all the way to Gullholmen and Karingon. Below the house is a dock and a comfortably decorated boathouse. You may want to put some of the chairs out on the dock for an afternoon shrimp party.
There is a large tube to float around on (it’s great to tie it to the dock), and two kayaks one small and one large.
The upstairs level of the home has two large bedrooms, each with its own bathroom with heated floors. In between is a lounging area with computer table (although it’s a bit difficult to get any work done here due to the incredible view), seating area with a sofa that folds out into a queen size bed, a book case, flat screen TV and a Bose sound system.
There are two balconies, one on each side of the room. Depending on the time of day, one or the other is usually in the sun and the other one offers shade. The smaller one faces the ocean, to the left you can see Karingon and to the right Stocken’s “diving tower.
The downstairs has one bedroom and a newly renovated bathroom with a large “rain” shower head. The TV room has an L shaped sofa, a flat screen TV and the DVD system will play DVDs from all different “world” zones.
The living room has a spectacular view over the archipelago and Gullholmen! Sink into the comfortable sofa and get lost in the beauty of Sweden.
There is a breakfast area for 4 in the bright kitchen. A Miele dishwasher makes clean up easy. The dining room has floor to ceiling sliding glass doors to the outside (yes, with a beautiful ocean view). The dining table has “inserts” that can be added and can seat 12 or more guests. The veranda outside the dining room has teak furniture for dining and sunning.
There is WiFi.
Below is a “cellar” with 2 Miele washing machines and 2 Miele dryers. There is also an extra fridge that can be plugged in if necessary.
Although this home is mostly used as a “summer home” it’s been constructed for year around living and has been used throughout the whole year. Although the summer is stunning here, the spring and fall seasons are both exquisite. And the winter is a writer’s paradise; quiet, peaceful and serenely beautiful.
Stocken is a small “fishing village” on the very west/north tip of the island of Orust, on Sweden’s west coast. In the last 20 years it has become one of the most sought after locations for summer homes, although a lot of the homes are passed down through generations and never come up for sale, so it’s quite rare to be able to buy a home here.
Sweden’s West coast archipelago is legendary as thousands of boats of all sizes crowd the harbors. The difference between Stocken and most of the other villages is that Stocken is very much in the middle of the “happenings” but still secluded. With Gullholmen just a few minutes to the north, Karingon a short boat ride to the west and Mollesund and Halleviksstrand to the south, you can choose to surround yourself with the crowds, or relax on your dock in Stocken with a bit more peace and quiet.
Next to the house a small path meanders through a wooded area, if you take a left at the end (a couple of minutes’ walk) it takes you to the beach and Stocken’s diving tower. The tower, with the house in the background, has been featured in many books and magazines.
Right before you enter Stocken there is a campground with mini golf, mini mart, kayak rental and a restaurant/pub where a lot of famous Swedish dance bands perform. At “Tofta gard”, a walking distance away, one can enjoy concerts, and a golf course is also nearby.
Stocken is about a 30 minute drive from the town of Stenugnsund, approximately an hour from Gothenburg. Oslo can be reached in a few hours by car, or train.

One of my favorite spots in the world
This is our second time coming back here, and we will continue to do so as long as we can. There simply is not a more charming house or location. If you are looking for a stunning view, right on the water, a quick walk from the best fish store, and a wonderful, spacious, and well appointed home in the Swedish archipelago you couldn’t find anything better.

Domizil empfehlenswert.

We went there with our Bookclub on our yearly secret trip. The house is even more beautiful in real then the photos show. The surroundings are pitoresq and typical swedish westcoast ! The house is big and well equipped,we didnt miss anything. So our trip matched our expectations more then well!

The house is one of the biggest in the village of Stocken and it arguably boasts the best location. The photos are accurate, but the real thing is definitely much better. There is no risk of any "didn't meet expectations" experience. We were four adults and one two-year old. We found the house very spacious. In fact, it felt bigger than the listed 170sqm. The entire house was clean and well maintained.
Both the dining room (see the photo with the inside table) and the living room have several big windows. You can enjoy the amazing views regardless of weather conditions. The windows in the living room are child-proof. The owner has good taste - the house is simply decorated, but with style. Again, if you have kids, you don't have to worry about them breaking things. The kitchen has a big fridge and a spacious pantry. It is fully and well-equipped. The owner must enjoy cooking. I was pleasantly surprised the knives actually were sharp. The stove top is induction, but it works remarkably well. The BBQ grill is gas. If you prefer charcoal, Weber and smaller portable grills are available at supermarkets. Two washing machines and dryers are proof that the owner put thought into making every aspect of guests' stay pleasant, comfortable, as well as practical.
For seafood lovers, the fish shop is a short walk from the house. It is best to go there when it opens, as it is popular and the best produce will sell quickly. There are a couple of nice child friendly bathing spots nearby, where you will find many kids trying to spot and catch crab. Some parents also get into this. Even though most houses in Stocken are occupied by vacationers, this little village is not a tourist trap. There is a big camping site, but it is located just before one enters the village proper. This house served as a perfect base for making day trips to other interesting places in the region.
If you want to experience the essence of Swedish West Coast lifestyle, there is no need to look further.

The house in Stocken was wonderful and exceeded our expectations. We felt comfortable and "at home" during our stay. The home was spacious but cozy, cheerful and inviting, charming beach house decor accented with fun local art. Sitting in the living room enjoying the view of the bay at day's end, watching the light fade over the coastal landscape was peace giving. Clean and well equipped. Double washers and dryers were added convenience. The managing couple, Hanna and Jan, were so friendly, gracious and cute. The fish market was just a short walk down the hill, where we bought some of the best fish we had in all our trip in Sweden. Yummy. We took some sea kayak lessons from Orust Kayak one sunny day, it was a great experience. If we ever get back near Stocken, we would want to stay here again.

Staying in this inviting and comfortable home overlooking stunning views along the west coast of Sweden was one of our best vacation home rental experiences ever.
From our initial inquiry to booking to final checkout, dealing with both the owner and caretaker was a pleasure. The owner loves this home and the location and is eager for her guests to do the same. The home is warm and inviting with personal touches that makes it feel more like staying at a friend’s house rather than in an impersonal vacation rental. As for the views from almost anywhere inside, they are fantastic. We loved watching the ever-changing panorama of water, color, clouds, and light just outside our windows, as well as the antics of swans, geese, gulls, and other water fowl nesting in the rocks and along the water.
The weather was chilly and blustery during our stay, so we did not get to use the kayaks or take a dip in the water by the boathouse. But, we did explore much of this magical part of Sweden. We visited almost every little village on Orust and Tjorn, ventured to Lysekil and hiked the Stangehuvud rocks, strolled the Standpromenaden in Uddevalla to Gustafsberg and back, and enjoyed an afternnon in Pilane Sculpture Park. A highlight of our week was a visit to the Nordic Watercolor Museum in Skarhamn. If you are interested in art and watercolor in particular, this gallery by the sea is not to be missed. We also enjoyed two wonderfully prepared dinners at its restaurant overlooking the water.
The other highlight of our week was Orust Fisk, just down the street from the house and open on weekends during our stay. A selection of it’s fish, seafood, and veggies, provided us with two scrumptious dinners and several lunches, which were easy to prepare in the well equipped kitchen.
If you are looking for the perfect place to experience the wonders of the west coast of Sweden, I would highly recommend this house perched on the rocks in Stocken.

A very well equipped house, comfortable beds, spacious kitchen and lounge. Two washing machines and two dryers are a nice feature for families. The kayaks were very popular too. We spent most of our time in the house on the terrace enjoying the wonderful views. Only minutes away from fun swimming and crab fishing.
