About this villa rental
Overlooking the sea and offering an unobstructed view, this semi-attached villa is ideally located at the seafront, near Gerona, in a typical Costa Brava village, Llafranc. It hosts up to 9 people (babies and children included) and has 4 bedrooms, a bathroom, 3 shower rooms, an en-suite bathroom, an equipped kitchen, a living room, a complete set of household appliances, a washing machine, a dishwasher, a television, a telephone, free wireless internet, and so on. For your comfort, we offer a dining room and a summer sitting room, a fresh-water swimming pool and its solarium, and many terraces for relaxing and tanning. The staircase in front of the villa provides direct access to the sea. The garage has an automatic gate. Nearby, there is the beach (500 m away): all the young ones and a little less young ones can descend by themselves, without any danger and with confidence. Llafranc really is a privileged and secure nook, only visited by the Barcelonese and some foreigners, often property owners as well. You can also enjoy 10 international and Olympic golf courses, restaurants, shops, while rocks for climbing are just next to the house.
Services:
The villa boasts 10 sleeps, and sheets are provided, but not table linen nor bath towels. During your stay, a cleaning help will be available (direct arrangement). Telephone is available for you to use, as is the free wireless internet. Linen is also available for rent.
Kitchen kit (3 tea towels + 1 hand towel + oven glove)
Table kit (1 duffel + 1 tablecloth + the number of table-napkins and napkin holders you need)
Toilet kit (1 bath towel + 1 towel + 1 glove) per person
Beach Kit (1 towel+umbrela + mat) = 5 €
Or even baby kits:
Dodo kit: bed with bedding and 2 sets of bed linen + a potty-chair + a changing mat + bath towels) = €10
Miam kit: a high chair + tableware (plate, glass, bowl, cutlery) for babies + a baby table napkin = €5
Beach kit: a pushchair + a parasol + beach toys = €5
Pool and garden maintenance, as well as the end of stay cleaning are included in rent.
Outdoor facilities:
The 1,350-sq.m ground has a series of stepped terraces, interrupted by cactus gardens or flowerpots. The 50-sq.m swimming pool has a length of 11 metres. It has a depth from 80 to 2.50 m. The small basin, well-away from the large one, is the joy of the little ones. A wooden fence encloses it. The main terrace, opening onto the entrance and living room, can be completely closed for security of the youngest. All of the terraces are fitted for having outdoor meals, chatting or relaxing, with wooden or resin furniture and sun loungers.
The big advantage:
The exception and specificity of this family-oriented villa is the view. While being in the living room, you will believe to be on an ocean liner while seeing nothing but the Mediterranean and its ships in front of you.
The ocean liners:
Friday evening is the moment to admire them, when they return to France. They form a procession, one after another, all of them illuminated for the captain's eve. It looks like a Christmas Wreath at the horizon. One of our tenants wanted to count the ships he saw in one day, beginning with the fishing boats at five o' clock in the morning. "756 ships", he told us, "luxurious yachts, a Catalan boat, a Riva completely built out of shiny teak wood, sailing boats of all sizes with up to 3 masts, outboard or inboard motor boats, windsurfing boards and even the garbage boats that look after the sea during the summer season." Don't doubt and don't forget to bring along your binoculars and a powerful camera for exceptional souvenirs! This summer, we found our tenants passed midnight, seated at the solarium railings. The father was playing the violin while the whole family was watching the lightning of a distant, overseas thunderstorm. It was a magic moment.

We LOVED this property. Two middle-aged couples spent the week relaxing on the terrace, visiting Medieval cities or Roman ruins, and walking the Cami de Ronda. The location was the absolute best - relaxing city that is not too small nor too big, right by the Cami de Ronda for beautiful walks, and incredible terrace to enjoy the view. The host was fantastic with following up with us. I highly recommend this house! The rooms, kitchen, and bathrooms were large and comfortable. We made many lunches and dinners in the kitchen to enjoy on the terrace. If you want to go to Costa Brava, choose this location.

Fabulous in every respect
Great host, and a wonderfully secluded property. Have been to Llafranc for 15 years and this was easily my best stay due to marvelous Villa Esmeralda. Hope I can come back some day!

A bientôt belle émeraude.

Amazing Location
This traditional villa built 55 years ago is in an amazing location with fabulous outside terraces. The house is a feat of engineering and is obviously much loved by the owners. It is a tribute to them to have kept the villa for 6 generations.
The villa is semidetached with the owner living in the other half of the villa and sharing the access, garaging and pool. There is only garaging for 1 car within the property, any other car has to be parked outside.
The living space is very good with immediate access to one of the 3 terraces. The 3 main bedrooms are spacious but would not suit very well if the party was composed of 4 couples. I believe that it is normal practice if the bedroom can be a twin or a double that for a couple the bed should be made up as a double and not with 2 sets of single sheets. The bedroom we stayed in, the double with the single beds put together, had no mirror.
I wish we had asked about additional housekeeping. There was no information when we arrived about this as an option. I would have gladly paid for 2 hours of housekeeping per day. The only cleaning was of the pool twice per week and of the outside terraces once whilst we were there. I would expect if staying for 2 weeks that the linen would be changed on the beds after a week and I would expect linen of a local hotel standard. We have stayed in the past in several of the local hotels.
The villa has excellent electronic shutters and there is detailed advice regarding using the shutters to keep the villa cool. I am not sure in high season how effective this would be without ceiling fans or air conditioning. There are small electric fans available in the house.
There is WiFi but it is very limited and makes life very difficult if you have to stay connected to your own business, which unfortunately was the case for one of my sons. We are happy to choose to escape social media, but business availability is often part of modern life.
We had a very good stay in an area that we know well and love.
We wish Catherine and her family many more years of enjoying their family home.

Sonst alles perfekt!!
Danke Catherine für diese wunderschöne Woche!!

Good house with fantastic location
The house was well equipped with good kitchen and lounge, several toilets and spacious bedrooms. Several large terraces and stunning views. Good location, 7 minute walk to the beach and the village. Nice landlord Catherine. Can really recommend this house !!

Relaxing family holiday
A lovely place for a 3 generation family stay. Probably the best villa we've stayed in. Lots of basics provided, pool great, views outstanding and very understated support from Catherine next door. 10 mins walk to the beach and similar to the lighthouse. We visited for a week, having visited the area on and off for 37 years. We walked our favourite walk to north along the coast and visited our favourite botanical gardens, but most of all we enjoyed relaxing with our daughters family - on the beach or on one of the villa terraces.

Lovely Villa
My wife and I stayed here with 4 grown up kids. In a great position, 10 minute walk into LaFranc, with lots of restaurants. Been in the same family for years and feels like a home rather than a characterless rental. Loads of outdoor space with three private terraces and although the owner shares the pool we hardly saw her.

Idyllic views of the Mediterranean with lovely beach a short walk away
The marvellous unobstructed views of the Mediterranean make the stay at Villa Esmeralda quite wonderful. Truly unique. Llafranc has a lovely sandy cove beach with numerous outside dining options. The newly installed boardwalk just adds to the small town charm. There is a lovely rock outcrop near the house from which the kids loved to jump into the sea. Just bring waterproof sandals or watersocks. Catherine who lives next door ensured a tranquil stay and no impact from her family with the shared pool. It really did feel likely nobody next door. Catherine has ensured the house has all the amenities one could use during a stay. We do recommend the 2 hour boat tour of the local coves which may inspire renting a small boat to explore later on during the week. Multiple years of renting houses in Spain, but Villa Esmeralda has risen to the top of our list. We shall endeavor to return next year.

Wonderful place for a holiday
A very enjoyable holiday with a young adult family. Plenty of space for everyone and a great location for card games and dinner. Swimming in the sea below the house was a high point.

Private, Authentic Villa in Superb location
Our family's 3rd time to stay at Villa Esmeralda in Llafranc and everybody hopes it wont be our last. The Villa has unbelievably fantastic views from any of the multiple private terraces, a good pool and everything you need to make the most of those terraces during the day and into evenings - for eating as a family, catching the sun or relaxing in the shade.
Unique for this location are the steps down to a rocky cove right outside the front gate for some sheltered sea swims. It feels like a private facility as it is typically shared only by local fishermen during evenings and early mornings.
The Villa is very well kept and has all you need for a self-catering holiday and honestly once you arrive you will not want to go out to restaurants to eat every night as they cannot beat the view and relaxed feeling of being here. It certainly can sleep 10 people for 2 families, would be comfortable for 8 grown up people but the space was luxurious for just the 5 of us.
Mme Halley, the propitiator, is very efficient in the business of rental, justifiably proud of this family villa and is very welcoming and helpful. The Villa is divided into 2 residences and Mme Halley lives in one side with it's separate terrace. However this does not affect the feeling of privacy and feeling of comfort with the villa. Most of the time you are not aware that you are in a 'half' villa, the only signs being the occasional visit of the small, friendly and extremely well behaved pet dog.
Llafranc is small and beautiful. The Villa is just outside the town along the coast - no more than a 2 minutes drive - and is a very quiet location with only the sound of boats passing. It is a relatively steep climb so if walking - about 15 minutes and recommended - be prepared for steps and hills.
Great Location, Great Villa. Please keep it that way for our next visit !

Great for a family get away
We had a wonderful time staying at the house. The place is well kept and the view is amazing. We were 6 adults and 2 small children and had plenty of space.

Beautiful villa with stunning views
Our family of 6 adults and 4 grand-daughters (11 - 13) had an amazing stay at Villa Esmerelda. Plenty of terraces and sunbeds so we could all have our own space if we wanted. Villa was furnished to a high standard and even had buckets/spades and beach games available for younger children. Short walk into town although a bit hilly in parts. Would definitely recommend this property for family gatherings or group of friends.

What an amazing place! The house overlooks the Mediterranean. The quiet fishing boats and sailboats that go by add to the incredible view. In addition to the pool, there is a gorgeous little cove where you can jump into the Sea directly in front of the house, accessed by an easy scramble down the rocks. Our two families, totaling 8 people, were very comfortable in the house. While it is technically a duplex, we never saw the neighbor. Llafranc is a wonderful town with a great beach and some good restaurants, especially Chez Tomas. Perhaps the best vacation spot we've ever visited.
