Reviewer Comments:
I was very disappointed in the property. Most problematic was the property was several miles from where it is shown on the map attached to the VRBO listing. I was in HI to visit family in Hilo and picked the property in large part because of the indicated location. Turns out, property management must have known about issue, because while I booked my reservation in early May, a review was posted to VRBO in June with the same complaint. The seemingly intentional misrepresentation caused me substantial more time driving each day, not to mention the gas, and having to plan my trips to visit my family around the morning and evening work-hour traffic that causes traffic to move at a snail's pace. Once we left the property, it was difficult to return until we were calling it a day due to the extra distance. I contacted the property management company and the local manager who said they'd escalate the situation to the company director. That was on a Tuesday. By the time we'd checked out on Sunday, we'd not heard back. Multiple texts and calls went unanswered. Also, the photos on the VRBO site seem to have been taken by a staging company. The property is very dark, and dimly lit, not as shown. There isn't a dishwasher, as indicated in the listed amenities. There is no deadbolt on the front door, as listed in the amenities. There is no DINING ROOM TABLE, as shown in the photos. We had to use a tiny side table and pull chairs up to it just to eat together. And if you don't like waking at 6am each morning, DO NOT rent this property. There are roosters that crow incessantly from sunrise to sunset. And dogs next door that compete with them. In addition to the above, there were half drank water bottle left in a bedroom, an opened sugar packet left in the fridge, and a prior guest's sock left under the bed that we found when double-checking for our belongings when departing the rental. And the clothes dryer made a very loud screeching noise when i

Our family of 6 (myself, spouse, our two young adults, and our two teenagers) absolutely loved this rental and would 100% stay here again. Spacious and clean living area, decent size kitchen, and two bathrooms were wonderful. We appreciated the outside space/sounds as well and it was fun to be walking distance from Paradise Cliffs. The kids wanted me to mention that the best part for them was the pool table! Used nightly!! As others have mentioned, it is about 20 miles from grocery/supply stores, but it's no problem if you plan for it. We had such a great stay, everyone was sad to leave!

First off, this property is nowhere near the map indicator on VRBO. I was hoping for a place with easy access to Volcanos NP and Hilo, but this is down on the coast, 15 minutes away from... well, everything. I thought we were booking a secluded cottage up in the hills, but this is just a house in a neighborhood.
I sure wish I had looked closer at the amenities, because the lack of air conditioning was difficult to manage in June. You can open up the house a lot, but it only does so much.
Those were the biggest challenges, but unfortunately the list doesn't stop there. For one, it's a noisy neighborhood... lots of chickens and dogs, loud at all hours. Big problem with open windows at night. There are also a lot of animals/bugs inside the house -- some cute, some not. What's really wild are the grounds. It could be gorgeous, but the landscaping is totally neglected, and it's pretty unsightly. That's a common theme inside the house as well. The furnishings are really old; strangely for all the space there is a shortage of comfortable seating; the provisions (towels, kitchen stuff, etc.) are adequate but not plentiful by any means.
There are some positive points. It's a big house; lots of room. The rustic charm may appeal to some; it's definitely not a resort experience. The outdoor picnic table is great, and to my surprise we had hardly any mosquitos.
All told, it could be great, but needs a lot of work.

Spacious home. Lots of room for a family, although there were only two of us. Did not spend much time at the property due to daily attendance morning til night at the Merry Monarch Festival. Slight pest issues that were handled promptly, thank you.

The location of this vacation rental was absolutely amazing. A couple streets away from the ocean and the wonderful view from beach street. The property was well manicured and had plenty of mature foliage. The pictures of the house were accurate and very clean. The customer service was excellent. We had one issue with the garbage disposal. I notified Hawaii Life and they has maintenance out to the house in less than 15 minutes.
