About this cottage rental
This is a wooded property located on deep water oceanfront of the Union River Bay. Although the cottage is not oceanfront, visitors can easily walk a well-groomed trail to approximately 550 feet of private beach that provides access for launching kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards. Bald eagles, ospreys, loons, ducks, cormorants, great blue herons, and harbor seals commonly favor us with visits. A deep water mooring may also be available by prior arrangement. As the beach is southwest facing, sunsets are often divine.
The 1200 square foot cottage is in the woods, approximately 150 yards from the shoreline. It contains:
--Bedroom with queen-size bed and ensuite full bathroom
--Bedroom with 2 twin beds and ensuite half bathroom
--Fully equipped kitchen
--Dining/Breakfast area
--Living room with wood stove
--Den with a couch/futon that can serve as an additional bed
--Utility room with washing machine and dryer
The cottage provides Wi-fi, cable television, a gas grill, patio furniture, air conditioning, and heaters.
The property lies near the main entrance to Acadia National Park (13 miles), the town of Bar Harbor (16 miles), and the city of Ellsworth (5.5 miles). Visitors will have easy access to the broad range of outdoor, touristic, culinary, and shopping experiences offered in this beautiful and historic part of New England.
No smoking is allowed in the cabin.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Please, discuss this with us when you book.

This is a lovely two-bedroom one-level getaway in a private location with easy access to the towns and mountains that make Acadia special. The hosts were communicative. Unfortunately,, the weather was overcast the entire week.

Another wonderful vacation at the cottage! Close to Acadia National Park but away from the crowds. A nice quiet setting with access to the water. And our hosts, Maggie and Brant were wonderful as usual. Looking forward to next year!

We had a wonderful trip to Maine and staying at Brant and Maggie’s cottage made it even sweeter. The house is exactly as shown in the pictures plus a comfy master bed (assume twins in kid’s rooms too). We like it chilly so we used the Heat pump (which kept it cool and we were so thankful for).
The property the cottage is on is lovely, truly magical. We saw deer, nesting (and flying) bald eagles and my children have already expressed that they miss Brant and Maggie’s pups Milly and Angel. We enjoyed walking down to the beach daily to see the eagles, walk on the rocks and hunt for crabs or sea glass. It’s an easy 30-40 yard walk that made the property exceptional.
We were welcomed kindly by Brant and also had a bottle of wine and local treats waiting on us at the house. 20-30 mins to Acadia and Bar Harbor, 10 minutes to grocery and super Walmart if items are needed.
Thank you Brant and Maggie!

we had a wonderful time. The cottage is in tip top condition, fully equipped, great amenities. Brant and Maggie shared lots of local lore--restaurant recommendations, etc--and could not have been nicer. Can't say enough terrific about this experiencej And it's a very quiet and private location about 5 miles from Ellsworth and a pleasant 25 min or so drive to Acadia National Park. would be suitable for a couple or a family of 4.

Nice quiet location about 25 minutes from Bar Harbor & Bass Harbor & 45 minutes to Schoodic Peninsula (highly recommend). Place was very clean. It is located in woods but follow a short mulched path to Bay front beach area. Our dog loved her daily morning swim even though water was about 50 degrees. Our 2nd trip to ANP, and we don’t plan on cooking, but liked the comfortable bed, washer/dryer, and that it was a small home. Brant showed us how everything worked upon arrival, and made sure we knew he was available if we needed help/had questions. His home is also on 12-acre property but we had our privacy. After spending our days exploring the area, nice to come back to quiet home.

We would travel for 1 1/2 hours to visit places that were no more beautiful than just a short walk down the path

This spot was very quiet and relaxing. Centrally located near Acadia and other sites around Bar Harbor. Host was wonderful.

My husband and I loved spending two weeks at this cozy quiet cabin in the woods. Our dog really enjoyed the freedom to wade in the water and to explore the woods and beach on the property. We used the cabin as a convenient base for hikes in Acadia and exploring nearby towns and restaurants. Brant and Maggie were wonderful hosts. They were very helpful with offering suggestions for restaurants, hikes and shops. We hope to return!

Very accommodating and hospitable host with a great dog friendly property! We were very comfortable, loved the beach and are going to miss our morning walks with the dogs. Excellent location to access Mt. Desert Island, Bar Harbor and Acadia. Will definitely be back.

Loon Cottage is a peaceful place, nestled in the woods. Mistakenly, we assumed from the photos that it had water views. It does not. As an older couple (mid-70s), the patio also came as a disappointment. It is a gravel area, down three unevenly spaced steps, with no hand rail. Seating and stairs made the area less than conducive to outdoor reading or dining. That being said, we had a great time! Brant is a most gracious and thoughtful host. The shore walk to the beach is a beautiful commune with nature. It is a lovely private beach that our dog throughly enjoyed. We loved the rooster crowing in the distance each morning. Sunsets did not disappoint, and we even had a bald eagle sighting. Great 11 days!!

Brant was an exceptional host keeping contact with us/showing us around the property/and making sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable. We will be back in the near future. My husband enjoyed taking pictures of the wildlife, while my children sat on the shore watching the sunset.

Home is well equipped and suited our needs as a place to stay with our dog while spending the days exploring Acadia.

The cottage is in a fantastic location (secluded in the woods, yet not far from Acadia), Brant and Maggie could not have been more attentive and welcoming, and the access to the beach made the trip complete! After only being there an hour, my nine year old daughter asked if we can come back again next summer. We've already booked for 2024, so the answer is yes!

My family of 4 plus 1 pup had the absolute best time during our time at the cottage. Brant and Maggie are amazing hosts and my family really enjoyed meeting them and their adorable and friendly dogs. The location of the cottage was perfect for us. Secluded and quiet so we could escape the hustle and bustle of everyday, but close to town, Acadia and bar harbor. it gives the best of both worlds. My kid’s favorite activity was going down to the beach and swimming every afternoon. Sunsets from the beach are breathtaking! We just got home and already miss our time at the cottage.

Loon Cottage is perfect for a couple or a family seeking a quiet, beautiful setting that is still close to Acadia. Brant and Maggie are the perfect host and hostess. They make staying at their beautiful cottage so easy and friendly.
The cottage is well-appointed and the easy access to a quiet, picturesque shore is just what we needed.
In fact, Loon Cottage is the only VRBO location that we have returned to (we stayed there three years ago) and I expect we will return.!
Thank you again Brant and Maggie

First, Brant and Maggie were the perfect hosts. They made us feel welcomed and as if we were family. We couldn't have picked a more perfect place to relax. The cottage was everything we were hoping for and more. Secluded, but not to far from Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and Ellsworth; we had our pick of places to buy lobster, clams, oysters and a variety of local caught seafood. Hit a few antique shops too.. While we were there we saw some eagles, loons, ducks, deer, harbor seals and even a fisher cat. The sunset was magnificent. God willing, we'll be back next year. Thank you again for everything. See you next year. 💕💕💕

Maggie and Brant were excellent hosts. They thought of everything. The setting is peaceful and we loved the beach. The kayaking was great. It is handy to Blue Hill, Schoodic point and Acadia. Lots of helpful suggestions. We can’t wait to come back! Thank you both.

July 2022 Stay
Our family of five had the most amazing vacation at Loon Cottage. Maggie and Brant were the best hosts and helped shape our stay into a lifelong memory for our family. They were very responsive to our questions and thorough when we checked in to make sure everything would go smoothly.
They genuinely cared about making our stay enjoyable.
The cottage is perfect for a family of five and a dog. It was very well stocked with everything we needed upon arrival. The location is great for access to Acadia and all that down east has to offer. And for just relaxing, the short walk to the beach is along a well maintained mulched trail. The view at the water is stunning and the sunsets are absolutly incredible. The kids played on the large rocks and even swam on the warmer days. We spent many hours beech combing and found all kinds of sea glass and interesting souvenirs. Starfish, crabs, harbor seals, bald eagles, osprey, deer, and much more nature to enjoy watching on the property.
We hope to make it back soon!

Small slice of heaven
We loved our stay at this cottage. Great location, Close enough to easily get to Acadia, far enough to escape the crowds at the end of the day. After a day of being in the park, it was nice to come home and sit on the beach while our kids played on the rocks and in the water. Our kids loved exploring the property and the beach. Brant and Maggie are great hosts.

Can't wait to return!
Our young family had a fantastic time at Loon Cottage! Not only was the cottage comfortable, including everything we needed for our stay, but hosts Brant and Maggie were a delight! Special treats were ready for us when we arrived and they were ready to offer suggestions on things to do, places to eat and where to shop. Our kids were permitted (and encouraged!) to play with their dogs and visit their chickens. We were also invited for snacks and happy hour on our last evening. I'm sure Brant went out of his way to have special snacks and drinks for our kids. We had easy access to everywhere we wanted to go (primarily Acadia National Park). I'm sure this will not be our last visit to Loon Cottage! Thank you for making our stay memorable, Brant and Maggie!

Beautiful property!!
Absolutely beautiful property located in the perfect location! Brant and Maggie were wonderful hosts who were happy to offer recommendations. Located close to Acadia National park and Bar Harbor. Fantastic sunsets, eagles, hawks, what more could ask for! Highly recommend.

It was a wonderful stay
Brant greeted us as we check in. He is such a soft spoken gentleman. He took us to the back of the property for a beautiful sunset view. We had coming back for sunsets almost every evening. He recommended Perry’s Lobster Shack on the other side of bay where we had dinner along the beach and watched the full moon coming up above the evening dreamy purple twilight. It was a wonderful stay! We will miss it and hope to come back some other time!

Comfortable
This place is far enough away from Bar Harbor to have a quiet evening but a little bit of a drive to get to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Owner gave suggestions of local places to visit in the way of restaurants, activities, etc.

Great, beautiful stay with lovely hosts
Most everything about this home was beautiful, and we all really enjoyed our stay. Brant and Maggie are wonderful and engaging hosts, with tons of answers, recommendations and advice, and their property is incredible. It's a quick ride to Acadia, even in high season, but feels separate from the world, really, surrounded by woods, a short walk from the water, with starry skies and random wildlife sightings. It really is a treasure.

Amazing!
I can’t say enough good things about the cottage and our hosts. Perfect location. Close enough to Acadia and bar harbor but quiet and away so you can get away from the crowds. The property is beautiful and Brant/Maggie the owners are the greatest. Dream vacation.

Simply the Best of Maine
Without giving away any spoilers, the cottage, surrounding property, the hosts and the overall experience we had in Trenton far exceeded any expectation we had for our Maine getaway. The location is perfect to access Acadia and every imaginable outdoor activity in the surrounding area, and Trenton serves as an easy jumping-off point to explore the entire region. Simply spending time in the cottage and around the property sitting on the bay or gazing at the stars was amazing. Brant and Maggie are incredible hosts, wonderful people and we're so fortunate to have met them and had the opportunity to spend time in this perfect gem of a vacation home. Do yourself a favor and just go ahead and book that extra week you're thinking about. You won't want to leave.

A little bit of paradise
Lovely property owners, beautiful little house in the woods - secluded but owners on property who were not only friendly and interesting but helpful with anything we needed. Short walk to the most gorgeous private beach. Sunsets to die for. Perfect location to see Acadia and surrounds. Easy to get groceries. House was charming, perfectly arranged, comfortable with all you need including washer/dryer, great heat and hot water and comfy beds. Quiet as could be. Would stay here again in a heartbeat! We all loved it.

Wonderful cottage and owners
The cottage is perfect but nothing compared to Maggie and Brant. They are the perfect hosts. They are very welcoming. Their knowledge of the area and their recommendations were spot on. We had a great time biking, hiking and exploring. The property is incredibly beautiful. We cannot wait to return!

Amazing stay
Super clean, with all details taken care off. There was nothing missing. We visited with 2 girls (9,11) and the house had enough space to be together or find space apart. We ate breakfast at home most days, the kitchen is fully stocked and very clean. The den was very cute especially if you have to do a bit of work. Wifi was great, while verizon was spotty. Very comfortable beds.
We did not swim (partly because the air was already chilly, partly because the bottom was pebbly, mostly because we were elsewhere most of the day). But we hung out by the water after dinner daily. Skipped rocks, tried to fish (no luck), watched the sunset, smelled the salty air. The cottage is not waterfront but a beautiful short walk through the woods or the owners property. The woods open up to a field with wild flowers - amazing.
There are great lobster places (trenton bridge and union bay lobster pot) we frequented. The parks and bar harbor are a drive (30 mins or so), but coming back to this gem in the woods was great!

Great vacation
We had a wonderful time at the cottage. Brant and Maggie were very welcoming and available if needed. The cottage was impeccably clean and comfortable. The beach was fabulous for searching for shells and taking in the beauty of the bay. Our dog had a great time playing with Brant and Maggie's dogs and swimming in the bay. It was the vacation that we were hoping for. I would recommend this property without any reservations. We loved our time at the cottage and hope to return. :)
