About this cottage rental
Space and Amenities
Fully furnished studio apartment with full kitchen available in Los Gatos. Designed to evoke the feeling of mid-century travel to the East. Lovely, quiet neighborhood, close to downtown and an easy commute to all areas of Silicon Valley.
A beautiful, private and quiet studio detached from the main house. You will have your own entrance. A full kitchen and bath [shower, no tub] are included. All linens are provided and the kitchen is equipped with dishes and all cooking utensils needed to cook a meal. The kitchenette has a full sized refrigerator with freezer and full sized oven with a four-burner stove for your convenience.
You can use the kitchen while visiting, there is a Lunardi's or Whole Foods two blocks away.
You will have free access to high-quality wi-fi and your TV is equipped with and Firestick/ Netflix as well as cable for your viewing entertainment. There is a small desk in the room if you need to work.
The linens are high quality and the room is kept extremely clean. I strive to make staying at my home a better experience than a hotel.
Check-In
You will have your own private entrance. I will provide you with a code for the door prior to check-in. There is no problem finding street parking. Check-in is after 6 PM, check out is 10 am. If you are checking in after 10 PM, please contact me prior so we can make arrangements. If you need a late check-out or early check-in please contact me prior- I will accommodate if I can.
Getting Around
My house is very conveniently located, less than 5 minutes from the 17/880 freeway and the 85 freeway. Downtown Los Gatos is less than 5 minutes away by car [you can even walk if so inclined- but be aware it is about 2 miles]. You can get to Santa Cruz in 25 minutes, 45 minutes to SFO, 15 minutes to downtown San Jose, and 15 minutes to the Apple campus. Carmel and Monterey are about an hour drive. You can see beautiful downtown Palo Alto in 30 minutes, and visit the renowned Stanford campus on your way. There is a bus line not far from the house. If you want to go to San Francisco but don't want to take your car there are two options: Cal Train leaving from downtown San Jose or BART leaving from Fremont.
Things to Do in Los Gatos
Los Gatos has a beautiful downtown area that is a destination spot in its own right. There are loads of fabulous restaurants and plenty of boutique shopping. The movie theater has recently been remodeled and not to be missed- a real luxury experience. If you enjoy the spa, there is a premium example at The Spa in Los Gatos. We have a microbrewery [Los Gatos Brewery] and a wine bar if that is your thing. Sundays are the farmer's market and summer has many opportunities for entertainment- Jazz in the Plaz, Music in the Park and Shakespeare in the Park. Speaking of parks, my house is within easy walking distance of the best parks the county has to offer: Vasona Park, Oak Meadow Park and Blossom Hill Park. Vasona Park has a beautiful lake with boat rentals in the summer, and beautiful scenery all year long. Oak Meadow has an impressive kids playground and secret garden style trails. If you love tennis, bring your racket and head down to Blossom Hill Park. Into biking? Take a road trip to Palo Alto [~60 miles round trip]. If mountain biking is your thing, there are several incredible trails that draw mountain bikers from all around, on a clear day you can see all the way across the bay from the top of Jones Hill trail. Or take a hike or run along the beautiful Los Gatos Creek Trail up to Lexington Reservoir. The view from the top is well worth the effort. If you are looking for some wine tasting, try the Mountain Winery in Saratoga. Unbelievable views and they have a regular concert schedule in the summer. Another location of note close by the Villa Montalvo Arts Center, a beautiful mansion converted for concerts and other events. Like to shop? Downtown Los Gatos has some of the prime chain stores [Gap, Williams Sonoma, Apple Store] but is more well known for its unique boutique shops. While enjoying the Downtown Atmosphere, don't miss Fleur De Coco, an incredible chocolate shop with divine desserts. If you are looking for mall shopping, 15 minutes away you will find Valley Fair shopping center, and across the street is Santana Row. Everything from Macy's to high end designer stores can be found there. A personal favorite is the Free People shop at Santana Row. While there, try one of the amazing restaurants. Pizza Antiqua and Straits Cafe are my personal favorites. If you are a foodie, you are headed to the right place. There are literally too many restaurants to name them all in Los Gatos. Some standouts: Forbes Mill Steakhouse [excellent steaks], Thai Spice [reasonably priced but delicious], Andale [excellent "fast" but healthy Mexican food], Juicy Burgers [try the salted caramel shake], Lou's Diner [great for a HUGE breakfast, but expect a wait on weekends], Manresa [made famous by being granted two Michelin stars], Opa [less expensive Greek, but still delish], Dio Decka [more expensive Greek, also delish], and Aldo's [excellent Italian].
Other Things to Note
There are numerous fabulous sights to see and things to do in the Bay Area.
FYI I have a dog that spends her days outside and she sometimes barks.I try to keep that to a minimum but she sees squirrels/cats and that is difficult to change. She does not have direct access to the cottage.
I don’t allow my pets in the studio, and I cannot allow any other animals in the studio.
I truly feel lucky to live in Los Gatos, and I know you are going to love your stay here.

We were able to come and go without difficulty. We were here to clean out my in-laws home as they had passed on and the house had sold. It was a hard short trip, so this was perfect! Had great food and a nice clean place to rest our head at night. It was perfect!!

We enjoyed our stay at the Cottage/Studio in Los Gatos. The studio was spacious with a high vaulted ceiling and a nice TV sitting area. The full kitchen and table for two were nice although we went out to dinner every night. The location and price were great. We escaped to Santa Cruz beach twice to get away from the heat and the drive was only 30 min. We always seemed to be driving against the traffic since we were on vacation and not driving into Silicon Valley for work. Laurel was very responsive the few times we needed her. We will be looking for this property next time we visit the area!

Overall a nice place
We were a little put off by the requirement to purchase liability insurance or offer up an exorbitant security deposit, but needed a place close to our daughter and booked anyway. It was fine, though the bed was a bit too soft for us and we woke up with back aches every morning. We were only there to sleep and eat breakfast, and the kitchen was set up nicely. We figured out the first night that the “wind chimes” were actually the aluminum pull rods on the IKEA panels hitting each other from the breeze from the fan. If you want the fan on, you need to pull the panels all the way open so they don’t jostle each other. And with all the emphasis on wonderful linens and towels, one pillow case was missing from the bed (just a zippered protector was on the pillow) and one of the provided towels had a very frayed and close to ripping edge. Not a big deal to us, but if you are going to fine renters for every “stained” washcloth, towel, sheet... they should be perfect, right? It was clean, no odors, though there is quite a bit of mildew building up around the shower door on the inside, and it would be nice to have fresh bath rugs for each new guest. However, overall pretty nice and suited our needs.
