The Rusty Elk was nice enough for our long weekend. However, it could really use some TLC. It was clean, but it needed some better upkeep.
The location was nice - be aware the roads and driveway leading up to it are pretty steep, but they were manageable.

Like the house, but it needs some tender loving care.

We really enjoyed our stay. It was very peaceful, clean, and comfortable. We used the firepit every night and the hot tub multiple times. The house was good size. It was just 3 of us, but had room for more if needed. Especially with family of kids. We'll definitely book here again if we come back to the area.

This place is in a great area, relatively close to everything. Very quiet area and the house had plenty of room for my friends and I

The property was nice but could use some cleaning up and mowing around the hot tub. The house is a good size for a big family.

We had a great time visiting Maggie Valley and Cherokee! Our grandkids were with us and loved the Rusty Elk, as we did! We were out and about all day, but it was nice to have such a comfy place to return to for the evening; all our needs were definitely met at this house.

The house is tucked in the mountains and feels very remote while also being so close to town you can't beat the location. Very spacious accommodations, perfect for families traveling with kids.

Everything was good.

The cabin was very clean and well decorated, the outside was very disappointing it was very overgrown with weeds and lots of poison ivy/oak growing up unto the bottom deck and around the hot tub and firepit, the outdoor furniture hadnt been wipe down in quite sometime, the ladders of the bunk beds had loose steps that were very dangerous we couldn't let the kids sleep up there because of that, these are the only reasons i didnt give 5stars

Needs a new grill but other than that it was just what we needed. Would definitely stay there again.

Our family of six enjoyed a comfortable stay at this wonderful accommodation. With four kids in tow, we were thrilled to find ample space to spread out inside, and the two levels on the porch were an added bonus. The little ones had a blast playing on the skee ball machine, while I indulged in the luxurious hot tub and the fire pit with the pre-chopped wood provided. Plus, the convenience of a quick drive into Asheville, NC, as well as the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg made our stay even more enjoyable.

Second time at this property was just as magical as the first. A great time was had by all… 6 kids and 4 adults.
House was clean and very comfortable, a home away from home. The location cannot be beat if you are looking to ski. Hosts are gracious and easy to contact if any issues should come up. Definitely recommend.

First time personally renting a vrbo, but the check in/out seemed much easier than another trip with family. The owner was very nice and warned us about foul weather in the forecast. Very steep hills getting to the cabin and caraloochie skiing. Great location, we were able to get the kids introduced to skiing and the cabin provided plenty of diversion for four kids ages 7 to 11. Thanks!

The house was comfortable and convenient to town but with great views of the mountain floral. The manager was attentive to an issue and provided a quick resolution.

Guys trip. Good location, short drive to restaurants. Nice deck, patio, fire pit areas. Good TVs but not a lot of channel selection. Kitchen was functional. Good communication with property manager.

Cabin had everything we needed. Kids enjoyed the play room. We went out everyday and enjoyed the area. Host was very responsive. Downside is the downstairs porch needs to cleaned up. Area by hot tub and fire pit needs attention. Master bed was very uncomfortable. Overall we had a good time

The house was located central to all the activities we had planned and it was great to come “home” at the end of the day and relax.

We loved the cabin… in fact the day it rained we enjoyed staying on and listening to the rain in the trees. Even the kids didn’t want to venture out daily. Everything was clean and the space made it perfect for our family: we look forward to returning. The drive way while steep is perfectly do-able as we were in our mini van. (Of course summer months and winter months would be completely different. Thank you for a wonderful place to spend Fourth of July and recharge with our family!!!

Spacious cabin hideaway
We enjoyed staying at the house. It was spacious and had all we needed for a good vacation. It really was nice but the outside is overgrown now and they need to do more to make it esthetically pleasing like in ty photographs online. It was clean but could use a good deep clean. We were happy overall with our stay. Communication was fine but didn’t go the extra mile like some places we have stayed

Great property
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was very clean and spacious. I did contact Valerie once and she was very quick to respond and also very helpful. The kids loved the lower level of the home. It was like their own apartment. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

Very nice
Great location with many extras for grand kids. Loved the views and easy access to Maggie valley and Cherokee. Unfortunately, we had to leave the evening before our scheduled checkout due to mountain fire in Maggie valley. There was no immediate treat but didn’t want to chance it. We plan on returning again.

Our second time staying at this cabin. Plenty of room and equipped well. Very close in to restaurants and other sights. We even got to see the Elk wandering around in Maggie.

Perfect ski getaway
We had a lovely stay at this cabin. I really want to keep this listing to myself because I want to be able to book it whenever I want. But...this place is perfect for anyone who wants to ski, relax, enjoy nature, play games or watch movies and cuddle with those you love. My 70 yr old parents stayed with us and the stairs were no issues even though my mom does have knee issues the stairs weren't too steep. The hot tub was perfectly set in a location to the fireplace so that we could all hang out even though we didn't all want to be in the hot tub. The house was clean and equipped with everything we needed to stay warm and cook dinners. I would recommend this cabin to a friend and stay here again.

Beautiful Cabin and Location
We had an excellent time. The cabin was equipped with everything we needed and very comfortable. It was convenient to Catalochee Ski Area where we skiied. The one draw back was that we had to carry our 4 days if trash to the compactor which was several miles out of your way when we left. The clean up crew could only take 2 bags.

Ski Weekend
Went for a ski weekend to Cataloochee (just a couple miles up the mountain) and had a wonderful time. The house had everything we needed and would be happy to return.

Bonfires and board games
Had a wonderful quiet week at this cabin. There were four of us that hid up there for a week and it was exactly what we needed. We packed over 20 board games in the car for the week, and there was plenty of space to play at the large kitchen table and to organize them in the large second living room. We made great use of the fire pit as well, eating more s’mores that we should have. When we did need to venture into town, everything we needed was within 20 minutes. I’ve already recommended this cabin to family as a great getaway!

Our stay
We enjoyed our stay. If I could've changed anything, I would leave more washcloths & towels.... it's kinda hard to stretch 7 washcloths & towels for 10 people. I had to go purchase more which was an unnecessary expense when I could've brought some from home.
