Staff was really outstanding. José, the manager, goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. The interns (Ale and Simone) were sweet, friendly and helpful. The staff really have attention to detail.
The property is STUNNING, you really feel like you're away from it all. There's not a lot of rooms, so it was never crowded. Our cottage was gorgeous, straight out of "House and Homes". The beds were VERY comfortable. Our private terrace was west-facing so we had amazing views of the sunset across rolling hills. We loved swimming in the private lagoon/lake, the water was crystal clear. It was so peaceful.
The owners take incredible care to make sure the farm is sustainable and circular. The food is almost all provided from either the farm or the local region. We loved the tour of the property, seeing all the amazing produce grown in the greenhouse.
The breakfast was OUTSTANDING, seriously the best "hotel" breakfast we've ever had. We also really enjoyed the lunch, too.
My son and I are gluten-free but I missed the message to inform them (we usually bring our own GF food when we travel). They were very gracious and made sure there were always GF options for us, I really appreciated this.
Each evening, they host an aperitivo with light bites and wine (all organic and local). Super nice way to unwind from the day and chat with the other guests.
We also did a free yoga class one morning which was a wonderful way to start the day.
Massages are available on request (which I did) and it the massage therapist they use is EXCELLENT.
I think for the price-point of Cucumbi (luxury), the dinner could be improved (although the price of the dinner is very reasonable, EUR 25 for three courses). The ingredients were always amazing but sometimes the execution was lacking. It's a set three-course menu each night, so then you really need to be on-point with what you're serving. On one evening, we had a sort of polenta stew, but it was just a big bowl of 'wet' (lacking texture) and completely under seasoned. On the third night, we had a ravioli which was very much on the hard side of al denté.

Everything! The staff and owners were so welcoming, the peace & quiet of the location, the vibe, and above all the food! Such amazing food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Could not recommend this hotel more. Hopefully we’ll be back!

Incredibly beautiful location. Delicious and healthy food. Welcoming and friendly staff. Very comfortable room and bed. It was an extremely relaxing stay and we'll definitely be back.
The prices for food and drink were all fair, but it would be useful if they were more transparently listed on the website or at check-in. It was never indicated what meals were included in our stay or how much the extras cost.

Farmstay in a beautifully and tastefully refurbished place with international staff and an excellent chef who dishes up delicious, strictly vegetarian, mostly locally sourced meals (breakfast included; light three-course dinner at EUR 25 pp; lunch available at a fee). Included are a year-round pool and lake with a pier, spacious indoor and outdoor common areas, access to the vast farmland including sheep, chicken, dogs, cats and bees, bicycles, pool table, yoga studio, pottery studio, free (if spotty) wifi and gorgeous sunsets. Great views over the hills. If you want to interact with staff and other guests, dinner and the aperitif are your best options though staff were great at accomodating us when we were seeking peace and quiet away from the crowd. We booked and enjoyed a room with our own kitchenette and coffee maker with excellent coffee provided on the house. We loved the electric heating blanket in our bed!
Ongoing repairs and construction came with permanent noise during the days and had contractors passing by the room and common spaces. Water pressure was affected by the works for a short period on our last day. Wifi is spotty away from the main house and was insufficient in our room. Our room had a beautifully built mezzanine bed with very steep and narrow stairs which became adventurous in the dark.

Breakfast unbelievable. Car necessary but so lovely and relaxing. Perfect switch off.
Maybe independence of meal times. Interaction with other guests is lovely but sometimes some quieter time is nice at meal times.

Definitely to repeat!
The ideal place for a restful holiday. The whole team is extremely nice and there is a sense of community that is quite unique. Both breakfast and dinner are included, which is quite nice. Both meals are vegetarian. The whole property is quite charming, with both a pool and a lake, and lots of space to walk or bike around.
Location wise, Cucumbi is quite secluded. But if you are looking for a few days of absolute rest, I find it ideal. Nearby, there are a couple of towns and a dam, perfect for fishing.
Finally, a huge thanks to Catarina who advised and booked us a restaurant for lunch, on our last day, in a town nearby, for non-vegetarians such as my family (where everything was delicious and everyone was also exceptionally nice).
We liked everything. The only thing I'd suggest is the addition of a TV or a projector (since, during the summer, afternoons in Alentejo can become too hot to be outside and having some sort of entertainment inside would be nice).

We had a wonderful experience at Cucumbi. The venue is very big and it provides a lot of diverse activities: from a lake, to hikes, ceramics room, etc. You won't feel bored at Cucumbi. Probably what we've liked the most were the food and the staff. The breakfast and dinner were really good. Almost all products are harvested on their farm and brought to the table, and the dishes were prepared with so much care. All seasonal, fresh and local. We have loved the concept. The staff is like a family, which makes you feel at home and invited.
Thank you for the experience,
Carla & Sören

The property is located in a beautiful and charming domain. It produces its own fruits and vegetables.
It is run by an adorable family, which is super caring.
The ideal place to disconnect completely :)
