All the staff from receptionists, cleaners to the breakfast waiting on staff very friendly and helpful.
The location and the grounds were lovely.
Breakfast was great.
It is in desperate need of updating.
Having a shower floods the bathroom, due to a partition having a gap at the bottom.
The toilet seat doesn’t stay up.
The mattress is appalling, worn out, you can feel the springs.
No plug sockets by the bed.
In general, the rooms are not fit for purpose, they are serviced but not maintained.
Not value for money at the price charged.

Cooked breakfast included in the price which was tasty and hot. Plus a good selection of continental taste and coffee, tea and juices.
Rooms were quiet, clean and warm. The staff very polite and helpful.
Bathroom sealant needs replacing and partner found the beds a little on the hard side.

We stopped at this hotel a couple of years ago and returned because we were more than happy with our first stay. I don't normally leave reviews as experience from reading others tells us they can rarely be Trusted. I am not going to make things up that suggests this hotel, restaurant and bar are anything less than okay. So I am not attempting to put others from booking this hotel. The food was reasonable. The room was reasonable. The bar was reasonable. The prices were reasonable . However, see what we didn't like.
Having had a meal and a few drinks. I approached one of the staff (owner?) to order another bottle of wine. She said she couldn't serve me because one of our party (Group of 4) had too much to drink.. Even though we had a few I was a bit surprised but just said ok and returned to the table to tell the others. My brother in law went to the bar to ask who had too much to drink. He was told a different story, which was the bar was closing because of lack of customers. My wife and I had already put our coats on and followed my brothers and sister in-law down to the bar area. I asked what I believed was one of the locals why he was swearing at me to which he replied you been asked to leave now **** off (no one had actually asked me to leave). At the same instance "the owner", who I had not previously seen jumped out from behind the bar like a man processed screaming he wasn't having his staff spoken to like that and he wanted us of site. Pack your bags and leave. None of our party raised their voices or used fowl language. We explained we were booked into the hotel and couldn't leave (drive) because we had been drinking and paid for the hotel. This hotel is also some way from the nearest town. His reply was a request for one of his staff to call the police. I then said can we have the bill for our drinks and meal which I then paid (£129.00).
We went back to our rooms and the police arrived shortly afterwards. The two police officers, who were great, said the owner wasn't making any accusations but we had no choice but to comply with the owners demand to leave. One officer went back to the owner in an attempt to get him to change his mind.
We booked another hotel several miles away and one officer drove my car and we were transported to the other hotel. I have since sent a thank you to Devon and Cornwall Police. My wife is 68 and I am 70. Whilst we had been drinking we didn't put a foot wrong.

One of those quirky places that will have you returning again and again. The room was clean and comfy, walk in shower was super hot and super powerful which was amazing and the team there were exceptional. Check in was great, the lady that looked after me at breakfast was wonderful - seeing I was returning to the buffet for tea every 5 minutes she went and got me a larger mug, and the food was really good. Team in the pub, again wonderful, patient and helpful and the food was really good. I come to this area a lot and will be booking again for definite. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Excellent breakfast, Room was clean, On-site pub and restaraunt which provided good food and drinks.
Limited rooms so had to book a family room - But this was still cheaper by £20 than an alternative equivalent single room at other hotels.

Room was spotless. Staff were very friendly and helpful

spacious room, comfortable bed, mostly clean
it felt like it had seen better days. with a few tweaks it could be really good. bathroom door rotting at the bottom. great shower, but no shower screen of curtain, so everything ends up wet. Hairdryer provided but no mirror nearby. mirror hanging halfway over plug sockets. bits of cleaning missed, such as a grapevine in the middle of the floor. all minor issues which if rectified would turn a good experience into a great experience. all staff were friendly, helpful and efficient.

The restaurant and bar area was great, we were lucky to have a decade's disco on in the bar which was really good, the service at the bar was very quick and the food was lovely
Unfortunately we had some noisy people in the room next to ours which kept us up till past 2 in the morning which tarnished our stay

The food in the pub was very good too and we enjoyed the live band on Friday which was a bonus.
