The Casterbridge is an Old World hotel, with charm and atmosphere. It is located very conveniently on the main road of Dorchester. There are several excellent eating places very near by, as well as shops of different types. The property has three parking places in a car park two streets away.
We were welcomed by Noorani, who is a warm and effusive hostess. She made us feel at home and gave us excellent advice and recommendations on places to visit and dine.
The room was large and comfortable, with ample storage space, a spacious bathroom and a luxurious bed (we stayed in the four-poster bedroom).
The water pressure in the bathroom could have been better.

The decor was absolutely lovely, especially the breakfast room. The hotel had real character, A nice communal library downstairs where you could relax. The host (I've forgotten her name) was welcoming and friendly and keen to advise about what I should do during my stay, and where I could go to eat. As I was travelling alone this was a real bonus.
Before I got there I got an email advising about a self check in system, which seemed to suggest that when I got there I wouldn't meet a person, but I would have to find my own way to my room. It said I would have to pick up my key from a key safe. Which actually didn't apply, because when I got there there was no key safe. I was very glad when my host appeared and welcomed me. Please don't send this email to your guests any more, as it is very off putting. The reason for paying the money for a 4 star hotel is that you are able to turn up when you like and be welcomed in to the hotel by a real person.

Stunning property in an excellent location on the doorstep of central Dorchester.

The proprietor Noorani was so kind, welcoming, and helpful. She is also an amazing cook! So lovely to be right in the heart of Dorchester. I really appreciated Noorani’s knowledge of the history of the town and region, which is fascinating.
Not applicable—it’s gorgeous.

I really enjoyed my stay at Casterbridge. It is in a great location, walking distance to all the shops and restaurants on the high street. Friendly host who told me about the local area and history of the B&B. Room was very traditional but clean and comfortable. Lovely bath, tea and coffee, view over the highstreet, very comfortable bed and TV with Netflix. I would definitely consider staying here again if I am in the area, and would recommend to others. Thank you so much!
There were builders onsite in the hallways painting/decorating when I visited (although they were considerate and helpful). I had to ask for certain breakfast items several times, but when it came it was all delicious and wonderful!

Very cosy and comfortable room. Very accommodating staff. Great, central location and great value for money

There was no catering for vegans even though this was communicated upon purchase - some soy/oat milk and vegan margarine would have made a lot of different :)

Noorani was an excellent host and she went out of the way to make my stay pleasant and comfortable. Great location bonus to have free parking in town center and fabulous breakfast .

The one member of staff actually at the property was lovely. It’s for her I have given top marks for staff. She makes fantastic poached eggs and did her best to take care of all the customers.
The free parking is down the road and round the corner in front of a garage. It’s not secure and you have to carry your luggage.
There is a key code on the door and you have to pick up your key from a box. While this is commonplace in single occupancy places, I don’t feel its secure for this place, which has no staff on duty most of the time. The price suggests a reception and some staff, not a hostel.

Beautifully renovated and modernized property. Loved the terrace. Great breakfast. Great people. 10 out of 10 for us.

The location The bed and linen. Quiet room at the back of property. Friendly hostess Parking available and free
lTea and coffee making facilities perched on top of small fridge.under window. Kettle slid off and splashed on hands. Electric leads for kettle, tv and fridge plugged into an extension lead so cables around floor. Health and safety issues.
The bathroom A long narrow space Area around basin needs updating. A very outdated plastic shaving type light above basin, old mirror and ancient brown plastic hair dryer. Nowhere to put toiletries around basin.
Shower fitting - neither of us could understand how it worked. needs replacing. Shampoo decanted so no idea what was in it. No conditioner and sad sachets of other bath products.
No room service for second day so came back late to no clean towels, bottled water or tea bags.
Overpriced. Operates generally like a B and B not an hotel eg very early inflexible breakfast times at weekend! Disappointed and won’t return

Good breakfast. The owner is very hospitable. Hotel is in the heart of Dorchester. Good Indian, Chinese restaurants nearby. Good pubs also short walk.
The four poster bed is a bit small for two people to sleep comfortably. No parking on site. Parking on high street is restricted to 1 hour from 8am till 6pm. Guests can park car in front of garages in a nearby street.

Excellent breakfast. Room clean and comfortable. Friendly waitress for breakfast.
No car parking on site (despite description on Booking.com). Instructions for parking inadequate. Nobody in attendance on arrival.
A lot of traffic noise.
Cupboards in room smelt musty.

The location of the hotel
4.3
the bedroom was beautifully furnished and no expense spared in decorations.
Very steep narrow stairs up 2 floors to our room, a struggle for seniors. Also no secondary fire exit so a bit unnerving. A busy street so hard to unload. Hard to open the front door.
4.3
Beautiful period building, wonderful decoration and furnishings in a most convenient location to visit all Dorchester and indeed Dorsets many attractions. Very attentive staff providing delicious breakfast offerings and fabulous coffee to start your day. Room was super clean with crispy fresh linen. A real treasure to find !
I couldn’t fault anything, it was fantastic

The owner was very accommodating and really helpful. The room was big enough, comfortable and clean. Everything was explained, it was a nice personal touch, normally you get given your key and told where your room is, not here, very welcoming
It was all good, nothing to fault

Room was OK
Located on a noisy road. Got up to find that no breakfast was available despite advertising that it does breakfast.
4.3
quirky, loved the sun room, good location, amazing staff and owner. incredibly helpful and kind
slightly old fashioned. the 4 poster bed was really creaky
4.3
Charming building in great location.
The checking in process was a little stressful with the key code system
4.3
The staff was so helpful and attentive. Our room was very nice with poster bed and everything that we needed. The breakfast was delicious in the sunroom or dining room.
There wasn’t an elevator but when leaving there was someone to carry our 2 bags downstairs.

The host was absolutely amazing. I had to leave early for an Ironman in weymouth, and needed to leave at 5am. She left me a packed breakfast by the front door with my name on it. The place is charming, and was very good value.
I could turn the heater off in the bathroom.
