Such a beautiful, casual yet classy property. Historic yet approachable. Warm, delightfully friendly staff. Fabulous food.
Our bed was just a little too small for 2 reasonably medium sized people. It’s difficult with such an historic property (17th century). I’m sure a larger bed simply wouldn’t fit, but it just wasn’t the best night’s sleep.

The rooms are lovely and the decoration throughout the hotel is so beautiful. So much history and lovely walks nearby. Great customer service as well.
We had dinner at the bar and the food was amazing but the breakfast didn’t quite match that. Other than that, everything was amazing.
4.3
Friendliness of staff, quality of food, location. Nothing to fault.

Great service and happy staff, breakfast was excellent
The bedrooms are a bit small and quirky but it is an old historical building so I think pretty good considering the limitations. It is also clear in the description.

Breakfast was good and plenty of choice and variety. Evening meal the same. The staff and service were excellent. Everywhere was very clean especially our room.
We were disappointed with the size of our room for the price paid. The room was very pretty and tastefully decorated.

Lovely comfortable (and clean!) bespoke four-poster room ('Tess') in a very charming village - and the dining and breakfast were excellent. Very friendly and attentive staff.
The en suite was a let down. The sink is very hard to use, tucked away in a recess with the toilet close by, as it is you have to almost lean in to use it (and it was dark). And the shower looked good but was poor. Shame. Oh, and the dining room was cold, one tiny radiator in a big room. Doesn't make you want to linger over your (delicious!) meal.

Professional, well trained staff who unobtrusively did everything to please. The place is comfortable, welcoming and bright, with well laid out rooms and common areas. Food excellent, local fare well prepared and presented.

The staff were excellent; friendly, informative and responsive. The sous chef, who prepares the deserts, is a culinary genius! The best cheesecake I have eaten in years.
My main meal (Beef Stroganoff) was inedible and had to be sent back. That issue was dealt with politely and quickly but I do have reservations about the chef. My replacement meal (Hake with red Thai curry) was pleasant but hardly exciting.
The major disappointment was our room: stiflingly hot with no air condition and a winter duvet in the middle of a very hot, humid week. We opened the window, for fresh air, to find that the main flue from the kitchen extractor ran up the wall right beside our room and whirred noisily until quite late at night.
Overall, slightly disappointing for our first night away in several years

Location excellent with good local walks. Staff very welcoming, polite and efficient. Plenty of parking behind the hotel. Evening meal was very good indeed. Lots of breakfast choice with some more unusual offerings such as smoked salmon, eggs benedict. There's a lounge area for guests. Tables in the restaurant quite well spaced which makes for better conversation volume and of course some COVID avoidance ( as of today quite important we feel).
Decor in the bedroom a little bit dated and outside decoration needing a bit of tlc. However, the overall impression is clean and pleasant.

Without a doubt one of the best places I have stayed in. Charming, efficient and friendly staff. Excellent food and the chef Robert NDungo is to be feted for his kindness and adaptability to allergies - and superb cooking. Real ales for my partner were the icing on the cake.
not a lot - I can't think of 2 or three sentences worth of dislikes.

Breakfast delicious.
Ambiance lovely.
My sirloin steak was not sirloin, but a lesser cut on a bone. Bizarre. They did not charge me. Soufflé excellent.
Staff attentive and professional. Helpful and polite.
Bright white paint in the dining areas rather austere and not cosy.
Fantastic base for local walks. Great village.
Would recommend as a lovely place for a romantic weekend in the heart of Hardy country.
