This hotel was located perfectly. Directly at the beach and not far from the main town area and attractions, however away from the big crowds.
The staff were exceptional, and truely made our stay so fantastic.
The room had a beautiful view onto the pool and beach. The pool area was beautiful and so well maintained.
Nothing, it was so great.

We really enjoyed everything about our stay here, the management was very helpful and responded to all our requests in speedy manner. The rooms were cleaned daily on very high standards and the location is exactly in the middle of all the happening spots in Hikkaduwa and everything was within walking distance.
There were slight issues with the doors but nothing major.

Cooking skills of a chief cook. View from the room (balcony). Proximity to restaurants and railway station, bus station. Convenient bed
I was expecting from a 5 star hotel corresponding service. First of all, insanitation. I was living in a room with cockroaches, and later on, I found out that the hotel was filled with cockroaches. Starting from a small one (baby cockroaches), ending up with giant cockroaches. My vacation was totally destroyed. I immediately informed the manager Mandagala, and he told me that cockroaches do not bite, have no worries, and gave me a bottle (spray) for fighting with cockroaches. Then he said that in another room there are no cockroaches and I moved to another room, he brought to a room naphthalene balls and I was breathing it in my room. I told him, in case I find at least one cockroach in my room, I'll move out and require full refund. Unfortunately, nothing helped and I found another cockroach in the room, as they are practically everywhere at the hotel. Manager Mandagala was trying to calm me down, that everything is OK, but I checked out from the hotel the same morning. Second of all, the cleaning of the room and service at the hotel is terrible. I had to ask every day to clean the swimming pool, because it was very dirty and stuff was very unsatisfied to do their job, I was repeating every day couple of times same things: bring new clean towels, clean the room, bring water bottles etc. Every day, I had to ask the same things for 4-5 times, which was really irritating. For example, they took dirty towels and didn't bring a new one at all. I had to ask 3 times that day. Next day, they took bed sheets and brought ragged bed sheets. Next day, they forgot to bring bed sheets at all. Every day, there was some kind of argument and a million of requests from my side to do their job, although which wasn't completed from time to time. Basic things, normal service is absent at the hotel. In addition to it, WiFi is terrible. All the time, it disconnects and I couldn't normally work online, had to buy a local sim-card.

Spacious room with nice view.
The hotel is outdated and needs some refurbishment to justify the room price that is being charged.

ideal location to escape from the world, and just completely unwind. beautiful rooms, spacey, and completely idyllic. if you want to just go somewhere where you can just do absolutely nothing but rest, eat, sleep and relax, this is the perfect hidden gem. the reservation manager and the staff especially Pasan were always happy to ensure that I was looked after. perfect location for a couple looking for an opportunity to just have some quality time without worrying about where to eat or what.
due to the rain and random power outage, Wi-Fi connectivity was very unreliable but staff were extremely helpful to do their best at all times to rectify as much as possible.

modern for a Sri Lankan hotel, great views from the room, rooms are spacious and one of the cleanest I’ve seen in SL. cool bathroom with a tub. close to some nice beach bars, helpful staff.
the windows don’t really close well enough to keep spiders and other animals away. no mosquito net, which we would have needed since we had two big spiders in the room 😅 pool was dirty. staff was nice but a bit slow and didn’t understand what we wanted for breakfast, each day again.

The hotel had such a relaxing ambience being right on the beach so gorgeous views, and then delicious food.
It also isn’t in the hustle and bustle area, but easy walking distance to see the turtles, reef, restaurants etc.
The staff go out of their way to help you and provide you with a relaxing and enjoyable stay. On our last night we chose to eat at the hotel and they prepared a romantic candle lit dinner under the stars just for us.

An endless sandy beach where we met a turtle mother walking into the sea after burying her eggs in the sand.
Lovely pool, very tasty food. Helpful and friendly staff. Good location.
Everything seems to be in need of a little updating and refurbishment to look fresh.
And a little expensive.
Unstable Internet.

Great stay and for sure the best pick in Hikkaduwa.
Beautiful small and personal Boutique Hotel, spectacular huge rooms with stunning sea view. Direct access to a beautiful and empty beach. Only 200m down the beach there is a lot of nice bars and restaurants- but in this hotel you feel totally peaceful and can enjoy a free view of the ocean.
The Sri Lankan Breakfast directly at the beach is something I will never forget - you can’t start your Day better. Please order local food, it is incredibly good.
We booked the junior Suite in 3rd floor, but there was a issue with the balcony door and we couldn’t use it. They had to put us in a slightly smaller room with slightly less stunning sea view - but absolutely made up for it by offering free dinner and we could stay in the room until late evening as our flight was at midnight. The doors were fixed while we were there, so the next guests can enjoy the Suite.

You are in Sri Lanka. Nothing is there to dislike.

Very nice room, with comfy bed, great working AC and big bathroom with a great supply of hot water in the shower, which is especially nice after being out on the beach all day.
Very delicious free breakfast was included, and the food was delicious and of high quality.
Also, wonderful service from the staff. They are very friendly and attentive, catering to your every need. I will definitely be back!

Right on the beach, big open space with great rooms and views of the ocean. The food is outstanding with a huge range of choices. Chef Mangala who is also hotel manager really knows what he is doing.
The other staff are brilliant, friendly and always happy to help. Was a pleasure to stay there.
It’s I a great location close to lots of things and also has a good pool for lap swimming or relaxing if you don’t like the sea.

Roman Beach is a lovely boutique hotel about 2 km from the town of Hikkaduwa. The rooms are spacious and clean. Each of the 6 rooms have balconies overlooking the pool, beach and ocean. The chef is amazing and the restaurant has a very good selection to choose from. Mangala and his staff are very attentive and do an outstanding job. They arranged my transportation and tourist requirements like COVID testing which was done at the hotel. They also help you arrange government approved trips with certified drivers. If you're looking for a small beach hotel in Hikkaduwa, the Roman Beach hotel is an excellent choice.
Because it is a boutique hotel it does not have as many amenities such as a spa. However, you can go to the Roman Lake hotel to go to the spa there.

Excellent cuisine. Large sandy beach. Lack of people due to quarantine. Nice relaxing stay.
Mosquito bites. Lack of guided tours due to quarantine.

Great hotel, nice rooms, awesome view, right on the beach. The staff was nice, good food too. I wish I'd get to visit when the whole country is free and open.
Unfortunately there isn't anything to do at the hotel itself besides a pool and a beach. The spa services offered are at another hotel and the transportation to get there and to other excursions can be expensive.
