Wayne was a great host, helpful and so personable. Sugar Patch is very close to the beach and we used one of Wayne's double kayaks for half a day. He also provided us with a ride to catch the bus. A great place!
Sugar Patch is right on the highway so the road noise was noticeable.

We had 2 rooms on the upper floor. The view out to the ocean was very nice. The doors to the rooms were on a upper deck which had a great view and ocean breezes. The middle level of the house had a large outdoor deck that had a couple picnic tables and chairs for congregating. The rooms were clean, had a small fridge. The bathrooms were modern. The hotel provided coffee grounds, sugar, coffee filters and a coffee maker in the room. We only stayed one night but if we were staying longer I would have enjoyed making my own drip coffee and sitting on the deck enjoying the views and breeze. There is a very friendly dog named Jack which made my kids' day. The hotel is located down the main street in Hopkins. I was happy we had a car but the main part was within walking distance if you like to walk. The hotel has off street car parking. If you are looking for clean comfort and quiet then the Sugar Patch Inn can't be beat. If you want to be in the heart of things, probably not the right place for you.
The Sugar Patch Inn sits on the back half of an ocean front lot. So you can see and walk to the ocean but there is a small house and another building between the Sugar Patch Inn and the ocean. The beach had quite a bit of plastic trash and ocean debris on it. However, we were visiting right after a hurricane and during the holidays so I'm not sure that our experience with the beach near the Sugar Patch Inn is reflectively of its normal state. This is not an ocean front hotel like in Placencia or San Pedro so don't expect the beach to be groomed to perfection. I wasn't expecting anything like that so I didn't really mind the beach. We still enjoyed walking on it.

We really liked our room. It was neat and had a very nice balcony with ocean view. Wayne and Marlene were very hospitable and made sure everything was fine.

The room was basic but comfortable.
We were passing back through Hopkins for one night, arriving late and leaving early so we decided to book sugar patch inn because it was a bit cheaper than other options. This was a big mistake. Our room was in the front of the building towards the street and the curtains in our room were completely see through meaning at night anyone could see in when the light was on and in the morning the sun poured in waking you up. It was also noisy from the street. There was very little water pressure and no hot water in the sink. The shower head only spit out water in a few places and had almost no water pressure. There was no remote for the AC in the room so I asked the manager. He said we didn't pay for AC and it would be $10 US for it! $10 US for AC!!! I told him I had never heard of such a thing and booking.com said AC included. He said no it said it was an extra charge. I went back and looked, and the description of the place said all rooms had AC. Only when you click on the tab for facilities did it say additional charge. To me this is false advertising and they shouldn't say every room has AC if you are then going to charge for it. If all this wasn't enough, I sat on the toilet the next morning and the seat cracked. I told the guy as we were leaving. He checked and came running out yelling at us that we broke his toilet seat and had to pay for it! I was completely appalled and said hell no! I weigh 115 pounds and certainly any normal toilet seat could support my weight. This thing was flimsy as anything, probably cracked before we were there, and I could not believe how rude this guy was yelling at us that we had you pay for it! Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

The hotel was easy to find, on the outskirts of the village and away from the noise of the centre. There are two decent restaurants within walking distance. The owner is an interesting chap to talk to.

The manager Wayne was very helpful with where to eat and what to see. He loaned us a cooler for a day trip.
We did not have a room on the beach side. There was a balcony that we could use on the beach side.
