About this house rental
If you are looking for an authentic experience do consider staying at my home during your stay in DC. I am located on a tree-lined block in the Bloomingdale neighborhood in NW. It's a neighborhood of only about 12 square blocks with many hidden treasures: unassuming dive bars, surprise parks and award-winning restaurants. Bloomingdale is sandwhiched between the neighborhoods of Shaw and Eckington. It is on the border of the District’s northwest quadrant, stretching from Second Street NW to North Capitol, bordered by Florida Avenue NW to the south and Bryant and Channing places NW to the north.
Bloomingdale Beauty is a spacious Victorian home with 5 bedrooms and 3.5 baths. It can hold comfortably 13 guests. However, there are only 10 beds. Air beds and tatamis are available for additional persons beyond 10. I offer my home as a clean, cheap, and safe place to sleep and recharge in the Nation's Capital. It's humble and doable for a few nights. There's a kitchen per your use. However, should you need to really cook, you will have to bring your essentials.
The home has a dining room with a very large wood table, a living room to lounge with guests; an iron with an ironing board; hangers; and etc. PLEASE NOTE: This listing is for the upper unit of the home. There is a basement unit as well. Each unit is completely private and secure. There may be guests in the basement unit during your stay. There is a security system with cameras on the outside's front entry and back exit of home.

I had about nine people stay in this house and it worked absolutely amazingly! The neighborhood is very quiet and the neighbors were sweet whenever they saw us. The were a few dead bugs in the showers when we first got there but overall was clean and beautiful. Would stay again!

The pictures and description of the property paint a beautiful place. Absolutely not. From the moment we walked in there was a noticeable musky smell. I took pictures of the buildup of dirt in the air vents, the oven I was afraid to cut on from the grease buildup in it, the bathrooms were the worst with broken tiles on the floors, loose sinks not mounted properly and mildew on the sinks and showers. My wife and I both ended up with sinus infections by the next morning after sleeping there. The place is in need of some serious repairs and cleaning

This place is as stated and as pictured in the write-up. It really shines for those who need a lot of beds to accommodate a bigger group. If you want something fancy, you will easily pay double what this is. Since we were doing a lot of sight-seeing, we were only there to sleep and take showers, and this place is perfect for that situation. This place has a lot of basic twin beds and the showers are older, but absolutely perfectly fine. There were window AC units in each room that worked great and the temp was good. The downstairs is as seen in the pics and is quite cool…almost like an art gallery. The neighborhood was very residential and quiet, not like the bustling city you’ll pass through to get there. I also easily found parking outside the place, but don't know if that’s always the case. I never ordered the parking pass from the owner or anything like that. We did not get a ticket or towed away. The area feels safe, but is very urban….don’t expect the suburbs or the country.
Went to DC w our kids and an exchange student who is stating w us from France. We went to The National Mall, The White House, and The Monuments. I wouldn’t say they’re close by this residence, but we drove over there and, on a late Sat afternoon, found parking.

First of all, Dr. Koura was an excellent host! We needed help with directions to her home from the train station, I called Dr. Koura and without hesitation she gave us the directions to her home! Upon arriving to her home, it was just as described! The outside was beautiful! We felt very safe in her home! Very quiet neighborhood. We had no issues at all! The decor in the home was beautiful. The home was very clean. There were clean linens on the beds. There was soap and towels in every bathroom. The kitchen was immaculate and there was enough space for everyone! Dr. Koura was very accessible! The whole time she stayed in contact with us to make sure that everything was going well. The location of the home was close to everything that we had planned on visiting! We were able to Instacart groceries and took advantage of cooking in her beautiful kitchen! There were enough dishes, pots, and pans to do everything that we wanted! We are so thankful that we found this beautiful home to stay in during our trip in Washington! Hopefully, when we visit Washington again this home will be available! Thank you, Dr. Koura for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home! God bless!

We enjoyed our stay so much! The teens had their own space. The hostess was so gracious and helpful. Some excellent eateries in walking distance. Uber rides were available quickly. The home is so charming.

really enjoyed my stay here. Plenty of room for everybody and i'm grateful for the town that I got to spend.
4.4
Good size, very decent place. Not very well equipped (but also advertised honestly….we’re just not used to traveling with a toaster, wine bottle opener, food wrap, etc).
4.4
Overall our stay was good. There was plenty of space for our students and it was easy to find our way to the nearest metro station. Could have used a few more pots, pans and utensils for cooking as we did prepare meals at dinner and breakfast.. Made it a bit challenging. The kids initially complained there was no TV but after a very short time they adapted.
4.4
This property is everything as advertised!!!! Plenty of space for family and business travel, location is great for Uber or driving, Dr. Kira very responsive and accommodating.
4.4
Overall the home was nice, centrally located, fairly comfortable for our family, ages 2-60. Bloomingdale beauty is showing her age. Safety was my main concern. There is a gas stove in the kitchen, when starting, it didn't ignite immediately, causing a gas oder and a fire flash. I've used gas many times. That should not happen. Ceramic floors in bathrooms are broken and sharp edges exist. Listing states there is parking, but a pass must be purchased for weekday parking (weekends don't require). The heat requires a pin, not provided till requested. Additional family members decided to join us, there were additional charges for them. Make sure you have exact numbers at reserve time, no extra charge then. The Host was out of the country, which slowed communications. All beds are singles, as pictured. Very limited seating, no tv, sparse kitchen supplies. The home is as portrayed in listing. The maid was very helpful.

The house is exactly what is described. Very clean. Nice neighborhood.Communication with the host was great!

Large house with plenty beds and futons. Had a large group of friends meet and stay here to see the capitals play and we all had a great time. Great food nearby and easy to Uber to everywhere we went. You would be hard pressed to find a space that will sleep a large group as comfortably and efficiently as this house. Would recommend and would stay again.

This place was very accommodating for a group of buddies hanging out in DC for the weekend. The house was clean, and there was ample space for everyone. The beds were comfortable. The neighborhood was in a great spot and was very walkable. Communication with the host was prompt and professional. Checkout was easy. Only a very minor downside was the ice machine didn’t work and there weren’t trays, but the neighborhood is packed with stores. Not a big deal at all. Would definitely consider returning here.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this house for a weekend getaway and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed with the location and spaciousness of the house. Everything was spotless and functional, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.
The location of the house was fantastic. It was conveniently situated in a great neighborhood, close to popular attractions and amenities. I was able to explore the area easily and access everything I needed without any hassle.
One aspect that stood out to me was the excellent communication with the host. They were prompt and responsive to any inquiries or requests I had before and during my stay. It made the whole experience much more enjoyable and stress-free.
Overall, I highly recommend this house for anyone looking for a pleasant and comfortable stay. The spaciousness, great location, and exceptional communication with the host make it a top choice. I would definitely stay here again in the future.

Planned a trip for a group going to see the museums. It was a perfect house for boys and girls to have separate rooms and bathrooms. Owner was also great with communication and the house was clean and spacious. Highly recommend.

Stayed one night as a stopover in a family road trip. Six adults and 7 kids all accommodated comfortably. Beautiful neighborhood, amazing home, and responsive host. Could not have asked for a more positive experience. Also, a two minute walk to amazing pizza at Bacio’s!

Really enjoyed our stay here, would highly recommend if you are wanting a spacious stay for multiple people right in the middle of many DC attractions. The house was just as described, easy to access, and the host was communicative and friendly. Thank you again!

The kitchen faucet only produced a trickle of water for 24 hours till it was fixed on day two of our stay. There was no dishwasher to clean our dishes. We could not believe the house was prepared for our stay without running water in the kitchen.
The third floor bathroom had an accumulation of dirt in the corners. With seven beds in the house, only having 4 chairs for the large dining table, made it so we had to eat in shifts for our stay involving 6 adults and 3 children. The cooking pots, pans, and utensils were in poor condition and not adequate. For example, there was only one large knife in the kitchen. Also, the kitchen trash can was small. Only on the last day the owner contacted us to separate the trash and recycle things in different containers out back. We discovered the wooden back steps were rickety and the railing ready to fall off.
There us no television in this rental. The gas stove clicks all the time during use and lights poorly.
We felt the need to report this unit to VRBO and recommend against renting this unit.

10/10 would recommend to anyone. The area the home is located at is very nice. The house decor was very unique and I enjoyed it.

This property is perfect for what is needed as a visitor in DC. It is centrally located, restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance. When one goes to DC, there is so much to see and do that all you need is a bed to sleep, as you are generally out a big part of the day and evening.
The only thing I will comment on is that the kitchen is a little more sparsely equipped than many places I have used, but it is perfect for a group that will be eating out most of the time! We ate a few meals at the house with our group of 12, and that was a little challenging. But overall a great experience and the owner is easy to reach for questions and assistance. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
4.4
The main floor pictured is quite nice with nice artwork and lighting. Owner very focused on advertising her degree. Bedrooms however have all the charm and appointments of a jail cell sans the metal toilet. No furnishings , end tables, chest of drawers, lamps, curtains etc. All beds are the most basic twin beds some without headboards. Many of the utilities poor or in bad shape. Jacuzzi inoperative, range starter constantly clicking, frayed bath towels. Temperature control and poor insulation with thermostat locked makes downstairs freezing and upstairs a sauna. If you have 14 single sleepers and don’t care about your comfort it’s appropriate.
4.4
Location was perfect to all activities in the city. Property overall cleanliness throughout the house appeared to be maintained but one of the beds had multiple bugs on the mattress. We were not sure what they were exactly but it was a very small red and brown bugs possibly chiggers and bed begs. When we notified the owner she stated to have remedied the problem, but shortly after stated there was a light bulb blown, trash left in her house and hardwood floors scratched, weed smoked outside and for us to essentially call it “even”. I would not Recommend anyone to stay here. Don’t let the cheap rate drag you in. Pay more for a better quality home.

Eight of us spent New Years Eve at this space and had a wonderful stay. The home is clean, interesting, spacious, and exactly as described in the listing. All of the beds are singles but they are comfortable and clean. The neighborhood was nice and the owner, Koura, was responsive and helpful. The kitchen would benefit from adding some oven safe bowls or plates, a wine opener, and wine glasses to the kitchen (we drank champagne out of coffee mugs because the glassware was limited).
4.4
Very comfortable! The owner was very attentive to my messages and made the trip a great experience!
4.4
It was a great stay. The house looks way better than the pictures. There were places to walk to for food.

Dr. Koura was a great host and the location was so convenient. We really enjoyed our time here. It was a comfortable stay, and Dr. Koura had great communication.

Dr. Gibson hosted myself and some friends for a weekend and the experience was great! The property is exactly as pictured and is in a comfortable, convenient neighborhood. The home was comfortable and easily fit all of us without difficulty. It was a perfect place to rest and recharge after a long day out in the city. Dr. Gibson is a good, communicative host who always responded quickly. I would highly recommend this space to a group looking for a spacious home in DC!

My family of 9 (7 adults, 2 toddlers) recently vacationed in DC. The owner/host was extremely responsive to my questions prior to and during our stay. I carefully read all reviews. Despite some negative, I decided this home would work. The home was clean upon arrival. The location was good for our needs. The Metro is about 1/2 mile away. Be sure you can do stairs as it is 3 levels. There are 3 1/2 baths but only one hand towel for all the bathrooms. The bathroom on the 3rd floor has cracked tiles but it's ok after placing a rug over it. The 2nd floor bathroom has hot water in the toilet. The kitchen has sparse cookware. No dishwasher. Only one towel in the kitchen and no extra trash bags. I bought extra towels for the kitchen and bathroom. The reviews mentioned the difficulty of only 4 chairs at the table. I thought it would be ok, but it was difficult for 9 to eat. Some ate while sitting on the stairs. The artwork is beautiful, but not conducive to small children. I would have swept the floors but I was unable to locate a broom/dustpan. One more suggestion is to take pictures of the home upon arrival. There were outlets, floors, tiles, etc that were broken/scratched/cracked, but I am unable to verify they were damaged prior to our arrival (a piece fell out of an already cracked outlet faceplate, and there were scratches on the main floor, so we were not able to get back our full deposit). Overall, a beautiful, old building with a great vibe and location, but we felt we were lacking a few things we needed.

WARNING!!! Be very careful. Be wary of owner… kept my security deposit
We liked the amount of beds/baths, proximity to Nat Mall, restaurants, price. The parking/ neighborhood was good. Relaxing at night was hard with very little seating, (don’t sit in the Art chairs!) the worst part of this stay was our correspondence with the owner. We had an extra person not registered. Since there are security cameras it was noticed. We were charged and quickly paid the extra amount. All was fine until I messaged some things I thought should be known. To me the response was not kind and very defensive, but I’ll let the reader decide. I wrote: We have enjoyed our stay, but wanted to let you know about a few things. 1) the 3rd floor shower leaks through the ceiling of the 2nd floor hallway and we had to put a bucket there to catch the dripping water. 2) The second floor bathroom attached to the bedroom toilet fills up with hot water. 3) we never wore our shoes inside, yet our socks and feet would get black from walking around the house. 4) the 3rd floor bathroom floor is very cracked, the screens are ripped in the windows and some won’t stay open or don’t even have screens. 5) I tried to sit on the wooden chairs/ benches, but they were very tippy and I fell. Lucky I’m healthy enough I didn’t get hurt, but they could be a hazard. Thanks!
The owner wrote in response: Hello, Yesterday, the plumber was at the property. I wished you had brought the concern of a leak much sooner than now. Your narration sounds pretty serious. I’d like to have known earlier than now, if there’s been a leak of any sort in my home. I will have my plumber to come and investigate the concern and any damages. Please note that the home has central heating and if you were too warm then the heat needed to be simply turned off or down. I am aware of the front windows not having screens. The other ones in the bedroom do have screens and the 2 in adjacent bathroom. So you could have opened those for fresh air. I personally cleaned the home before your arrival. Every floor was swept and thoroughly mopped as well as both staircases. Know that I pride myself with delivering a spotless and very sanitized home with each new guest’s arrival. I don’t quite understand your implications that they were not cleaned. As for the art pieces, they are not machine made but hand made and not perfect. Thus, I am sorry you could not adjust to having the balance to use them as seating.
Btw FYI I teach Ballet/PiYo & the chair broke during my fall. Looked like an old break glued. -$

Dr. Gibson,
I cannot leave this house without mentioning how unwelcoming our stay has been. Yes, the beautiful and numerous African art pieces are pleasant to the eye but they take the room you would have expected to see another sofa and an armchair. The 2-place sofa can hardly accommodate 3 people. I wonder why a house, which is supposed to accommodate 11 people, has one tiny sofa and only 4 chairs around the dining table? As for the beds in rooms: all the same child size with no side table or lamp: glasses and phones have to go on the floor. Strange but still bearable contrary to the temperature in the house. First floor is freezing: we were told the high ceilings are the cause of the loss of heat. Maybe. But it is clear that the persistent cold draft of air coming from the back porch with double glass doors contributes to the ambient temperature. The irony is there is a bed there for the 11th person. The temperature in this “room” is the same as outside: low 40’s.
This changes drastically once you move to the second floor: the heat is bearable if you keep the bedroom doors open. No need for blankets. The third floor is another story: none of my family members could sleep there: which again, reduces the number of available beds. At least the bathroom up there seemed nice, in spite of the caving floor in front of the commodes but then we realized that if you use the shower it leaks on the ceiling of the second floor. Another unusable space.
What we could have used is a closet as we enter the house. Where do we put our coats and shoes? If you open the closet doors you will see in one the water heater and in the other the hvac. The chairs, art pieces, and sofa have to be used as coat racks.
Unfortunately, it does not end there. A fireplace with one log and no fire starter, lighter, or matches. A kitchen with no dishwasher. Plates that can’t be used in a microwave. No washer-dryer, TV but a fee for reaching 30 minutes before check-in time. How welcoming! Sorry our plane landed earlier. We should have waited outside in the cold so the house could have been empty a little longer.
In closing, I will be remiss if I did not mention that this stay has been the worst vacation rental experience of the many we have had in the last ten years.

Myself and three of my brothers, came to DC to see Michigan play Maryland, Dr. Gibson was a very gracious host responding quickly to all our questions, the home was very clean and located with walking distance to a couple of neighborhood restaurants we patronized, short drive to Arlington national cemetery, and other DC sites. Very happy with our accomodations and stay
