Super gute Lage für Stadtbesuche
Um das WiFi nutzen zu können, war es etwas kompliziert; aber es funktionierte dann gut.

Very good
This is a nice and comfy apartment in a quiet street. It is, as I understand, one of the few apartment options in Jena. The apartment is nicely laid out and facilities and utensils are all very good. I liked the living room corner sofa which was so nice for relaxing after a long day. Location is a little out of the town center, about 15 minutes walk to St. Michael's church and the Jena tower, but Jena is small and nicely laid out for walking, so I do not consider the location a disadvantage (and it was in fact close to the university where I visited). A couple of fast-food joints (both pretty good, actually) and a supermarket are in a nearby vicinity, much more is available towards the town center. The owners take meticolouous care that everything is well organized - from the arrival instructions (the key is received from a safe at the building entrance, you do not actually meet anyone at check-in and check-out), to providing city plans and brochures in the apartment - and a welcoming message. What I particularly liked was that there was beer and other beverages in the fridge, with some snacks, so even if you arrive late there is something to eat and drink if you want, and all this at a very fair price, e.g. beer costs 1.5 EUR a bottle, which is hardly more than the supermarket price (the way this works is that you leave money on the desk in the amount that you spent). Wifi signal is good in all rooms, and when I encountered some problems with WAN connection (related to the huge amount of data I tried to transfer to our university server in my home country), the owner replied to my questions quickly despite the late hour, and provided me with some alternative connection option. The service and responsiveness is just great.
I can only give a couple of very minor remarks. I found the apartment heating difficult to control - it was either quite hot, or too cold, somehow I could never nail the correct setting on the radiators. The heating worked very well, though. On arrival, the apartment was cold, and windows were open slightly (with temperature being below 10°C outside), but I believe this is the German method, at least in these parts, so I do not blame the owner :-) This may be very subjective - but I felt the apartment could use a few additional decorations (like wall pictures), which would make it more home-like, and the cold tone of the light (perhaps a power-saving bulb?) in the corridor gave it a tiny bit of a prison atmosphere. But all these are just cosmetical perks, all in all apartment was just great.
