If you are going to surf, this is the best place to stay. In front of Paunch, and near to other beaches.
David is very attentive, and quickly replied our doubts and messages.
The room is big and clean. Thank you David for the amazin time there!

Great cabin, very spacious, close to paunch, nice and quiet area with surf beaches. We were very happy that there was a coffee machine! Host David was very helpful.
We had a great stay.. only thing: pity it was a bit noisy, we could literally hear our neighbours talk and cough in the adjacent cabin

the location, the vibe
no AC, it was pretty uncomfortable during the day as it was a hot sauna. the vents weren’t really helping but nights were cool and nice.
also, thought it was super great to open the balcony door and be in the green - the road up to the cabins is rocky and steep.
also the water in the showers was not warm.

Nice location.
no kitchen available.
price was too high in comparison with all other stays.

Nothing.
Do not stay here! I have never written a review for a “hotel” but it is only fair to warn other travelers. The room we stayed in at Surf Paunch was filthy. The bed had stains on it, pillows and towels dirty and the sheets had holes/stains on them too. Not to mention the sheets smelled disgusting and were not washed. None of us used the sheets/blankets.
The host was shocked that we checked in 3 people even though the reservation stated three. Apparently the number of people correlates to why we could not have a curtain over the windows in the bathroom (you could then see into the bathroom/shower from outside our room).
It should be stated that the sofa bed is an old couch. A sofa bed typically has a metal frame and thin mattress that can be unfolded or opened up to make a bed. In addition, there was no shampoo or conditioner.
I wish I could say the room was inexpensive and that would make this experience slightly better but it was beyond expensive for what it was.
Lastly, our host was unfriendly. He wasn’t welcoming and couldn’t be bothered mentioning anything about the area/hotel. He made us feel uncomfortable and ignored our complaints. It is concerning when locals would say what is going on there is not good. We were the only ones on the property... wonder why.

The location is great - top of a hill in the jungle which allows for cool breezes at night. We woke up to howler monkeys each morning. You can walk down the hill to La Coralina Beach Club which is right on Paunch surf break - best in the area - and watch all the surfers. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can also walk to Skully's (1 mile) and Paki Point Beach Club (0.5 mile).
We were able to store our luggage before check in and after check out. The wifi works great. The owner is responsive and easy to get in touch with. Bugs were not a problem. There are a few kitty cats on property that are really sweet.
There is a coffee maker in the room, but you need to bring the coffee. There is also a small fridge.
When we booked, a breakfast was included each morning and so were bikes which was the reason we booked this location and actually how I sorted the stays when searching. No breakfast or bikes when we arrived, although told breakfast was due to the C-Vid. We walked to La Coralina for breakfast.
The sheets and towels needed to be refreshed. The sheets had some stains on them.

I liked the location, in the forest but very near to the Paunch surf break.
I booked on the basis of reviews that spoke highly of the free breakfasts and free use of bicycles. Neither were available when I stayed there. Also, there was no hot water.

Surf Break was a little gem! Perfect for a relaxing and enjoyable break. If you enjoy the quiet of the jungle ( except for birds and monkeys) and the gentle sound of waves breaking, this is for you! David is the perfect host- easy to talk to, happy to help out and he did our washing for free! Breakfast was delicious and huge!! The menu was varied daily to ensure ingredients were fresh. Loved our little tree house, with wifi and books to read and games to play if you're feeling lazy. The walk along the beachfront with the locals to eateries and bars was a highlight! Plan to come back for a longer stay next time.

I got separation anxiety as soon as I left this place. We had a wonderful time at Surf Break; The rooms are very spacious and the porch is spectacular (you can see all kinds of birds). I absolutely loved the tree house vibe and cant wait to come back. Also David was an excellent host, we couldn't have had a better experience in Bocas Del Toro!
Everything was perfect!

The location was great - exactly what we were looking for! We wanted to be close to the town but also far away to really be in nature. We did 2 tours with a near by business and it was an amazing experience. I loved the breakfast, Peanut (aka the jungle kitten lol), the howler monkeys and the sloth! It was a really wonderful time staying there. Perfect for adventure junkies such as ourselves! We had breakfast around 9am and it was perfect and we would usually chat away with Allie & David!!! Highly recommend the cinnamon french toast! Obviously recommend Surf Punch, Allie was only a phone call away through What's app and their recommendations were spot on! Thank you both for warm welcome! We will be sure to go back!
