We loved our stay on Swans. The house is in a spectacular spot with a stunning view. It was clean and well maintained and the owners were nice and helpful. FYI the house is not quite where it is depicted on the map (as of Aug 2024). It's arguably in a better location but we were coordinating with another family and thought we'd be closer to them. Our only complaint was the kitchen cabinets are stuffed with so much dishware and serving ware that we had nowhere to put a week's worth of groceries and ended up storing it in bags on the floor. On the flip side, the kitchen is well equipped. Also the beds are quite firm, which may not be to everybody's taste.

Our family of 6 (ages 17 - 50) stayed at this spacious and gorgeous home in mid July. Quite honestly in the beginning, the thought of arranging the ferry service, driving on it, navigating the roads and just being on an island, was a bit nerve-wracking. Luckily for us, we soon found out that the ferry service runs smoothly/accurately. The roads (there aren’t many) were accurate to the maps and the house was easy to find with the family name at the end of the driveway. (some of the most friendly people ever are here - EVERYONE waves to one another!)
The house itself was well laid out and stocked with ALL of your cooking needs (spatulas, frying/cake pans, muffin tins…) along with all of the cleaning supplies you might need. The bathrooms were also fully stocked with towels. As far as entertainment, the house has a plethora of movies, games, cards and puzzles for your use.
During one of our days, we traveled into the busy/bustling Bar Harbor. However, we honestly couldn’t wait to get back to the calm, serene comfort of the house- it was that relaxing!
Tips - enjoy a fire by the ocean, star gaze at night (AMAZING), have all of your groceries, gas, and supplies BEFORE getting on the island, and check out the quarry.
ANY time I had questions, Kerri, Caroline and Ron were QUICK to respond! Overall, this is a beautiful and peaceful house which comes highly recommended to anyone seeking a respite from the hustle of daily living.

Our wedding guests were thrilled with the location of this house on a remote island in Maine. The house was clean, and spacious with many windows to enjoy the spectacular views.

Stunning, ever changing views of the Bay can be seen from every room. This well appointed home stands above the rocky beach nestled among the trees on this quiet, peaceful island. A path leads down to the shore with creative, adventurous stops to explore. Stay to yourself or mingle with the friendly residents of Swans Island.

The beautiful home and the fabulous views were as described , we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend. Few things to note,
Board the ferry after filling gas from mainland and getting ample groceries from Ellsworth. There is only one store in the island which has some basic supplies that you may run out of.
Caroline and Kerri were both very helpful from beginning till end. We had forgotten a few personal items and it was mailed to us along with our security deposit!
If you are looking for a peaceful getaway with scenic views , this is the perfect spot.
Point of interests you can’t miss -
the coat harbor light house
the quarry ( swimming in the quarry was the highlight of the trip for my teen)
fine sand beach near the house.

Magnificent Island Retreat
A beautiful home with a cathedral ceiling and we enjoyed exquisite sunsets over the Atlantic. As a zoologist, I'd like to know why a caribou skull is hung in the 'great room' instead of the native moose or a white-tailed deer :) {I realize caribou have been released, though unsuccessfully, in the great state of Maine.}

Peaceful getaway
Our family with 2 adults and three young boys had a wonderful week in this peaceful and well-furnished home. Located down a dirt road and meandering spruce-lined drive way, the house is perched overlooking a rocky beach. It is a totally quiet setting, except for the distant hum of lobster boats. Inside the house, the owners have provided every modern comfort, including an excellent kitchen, climate control, and plenty of clean linens. You could happily spend your entire stay inside soaking in the views. We have very busy boys, so we spent our time exploring trails and beaches. It was a great week and we will surely return!

Tranquility
Beautiful home in a beautiful location. We could have been content to just sit on the deck and watch the sea and the sky change colors. Had a great time kayaking, taking short hikes, and biking on Swans. Well equipped home with everything we needed. (We rented kayaks on mount desert and brought them with us). Make sure you understand how the ferry works as it can be difficult getting advance reservations for your car for arrival and departure. We got a reservation on the way out but failed to get one on the return so departed at the crack of dawn to catch the last car spot on the 645 AM ferry . A great visit that we hope to repeat in the future.

Remote retreat
Perfect to get away & unplug. Swans Island has very few amenities - so not a vacation for those who like to be busy or entertained. If you like to be off the grid, read books, have long lazy days and cook every single one of your own meals - this location is for you!

Great Time on Swan's Island
We had a wonderful time in this house. It was warm and welcoming, with all the comforts and conveniences of home. The setting was beautiful. We admired the views on sunny days, as well as stormy ones. Being there was a very peaceful interlude for us.

Memorial holiday stay
The house is more than you can imagine! The kitchen is a cook's dream, beautiful views from all of the rooms, and lots of peace and quiet. We found everyone on the island to be very friendly and helpful from driving directions to ways to cook lobster. We highly recommend this lovely home.

Beautiful home with outstanding amenities
What a gorgeous home with upscale amenities. Views for days over the bays and out to Deer Isle. So peaceful and quiet, we were really able to relax, unwind, and settle into Island Time. Our hosts have thought of everything for ones care and comfort. Two story great room with walls of glass, a Viking applianced kitchen with everything needed to cook anything. I’d recommend this home to anyone who wants to stay on Swan’s Island!

Perfect house for our vaction!
This house was absolutely fantastic. Views were amazing and nightly sunsets were a bonus. House was fully stocked with plenty of dishes, linens and towels and for a house full of cooks, the kitchen appliances were a huge upgrade from other rentals we have stayed in on the island. Owners were responsive to inquiries and the photos and descriptions are accurate. We will definitely look to make this our yearly rental from now on.

Lovely home--unfair owners
We thoroughly enjoyed our five nights at this home, but we were unjustly accused of damaging a part of the kitchen cabinet and the front door: we did neither. We have rented numerous times on VRBO in CA and NC, and we have never been charged for damage we did not do. No inquiries were made to us about these charges; the owners simply sent us our deposit check minus what they thought would compensate for the "damages" we did not do; they also included a very unfriendly letter.
We are both over 65 and professional people; only the two of us spent time in this 3-bedroom house, using only the first floor. Not only were we accused of damages but of leaving a dirty house and having used too much firewood ostensibly because they said we had not built the fires as instructed: again, we followed all guidelines for the fires despite their unfounded assumption; we ran the dishwasher when we left, placed the used towels in the laundry room, and cleaned the kitchen. The TV also didn't work, and when we called, they simply said they needed a new system, but hadn't upgraded yet, so we missed seeing our Sunday football.
Overall, we were appalled by their accusations. We would not recommend renting this house not because it's not peaceful, commodious, and relaxing, but because the owners are unjust.

Fabulous Vacation Spot!
Spent 2 weeks, first was a romantic getaway, second we invited our daughter and 2 granddaughters, ages 10 and 9. Excellent time of adventure for all, with hiking, looking for seals, watching the lobster boats, cooking in the gourmet kitchen, and enjoying family time together! Home is well laid out, offering multi-generational accommodations with ample private and communal spaces. Great place to unwind and unplug! Highly recommend!

Swan's Island is a great spot for hiking and kayaking.

fabulous
We had a wonderful, relaxing, stress free vacation. The home is exactly as stated and the care and love for the home is evident. it was hard to leave after a week! We would stay here again if we return to Swan's Island. Thank you for some wonderful new memories.

Quiet Haven
The house looked even better than in the photos, if you can believe it. It is situated on a quiet island and we watched lobster boats and a four-mast sailing ship go by as we sat in the high-ceilinged living room and had our coffee that first morning. It didn't take me long to wind down. Each room is thoughtfully set up (matching soft towels, nice beds, beautiful views) in a that way that makes you feel the hosts care about your comfort and enjoyment. The kitchen was well stocked with good quality pots and pans and nice appliances.
The house is surrounded by forest and our kids (9 & 11) loved being in the woods (they built a whole fairy village out of seaweed, moss, bark, etc…) Most days, we explored the island and took long walks through towering trees and marshland to end up on beautiful empty beaches. The nearby rock quarry was a great hit for the whole family when we wanted to swim in warmer water. We ate lobster on a picnic table near some roadside stand that was delicious. All in all, the time we spent at this home was wonderful and relaxing and I hope to get back there again!

Swans Island Summer 2012
A beautiful, well thought out home. The property was in pristine condition, inside and out. The view of the lobster boats in the morning and sunsets in the evening provided hours of relaxation. The owners were very helpful with the information packet they delivered to our home previous to our departure to their home. We could not of asked for a better vacation experience.
