About this apartment rental
The Polehouse complex is of 2 storeys, with the owner's house above, the 2br unit on the lower level (still enjoying fabulous views) and the 2 storey 1br unit semi-detached from the main house. The property faces NE across the lake at the very bottom of Scenic Ct on the left. The garden contains native plants, fruit trees and a wide selection of herbs. NOTE: Guests need to BRING THEIR OWN LINEN (Q/S UPPER and LOWER sheets [the upper sheet prevents the doona making contact with the skin], pillow slips and towels). However, if they can't, they can usually pick it up cheaply at op shops along the way. FREE wi-fi is available. Note, a 4 NIGHT MINIMUM BOOKING applies, except for Christmas/Jan, when it is 7 nights. This listing describes the 1br unit.
1BR UNIT :
This 2-storey unit is imaginatively designed in Moroccan style, with many curved motifs. The living and bathing areas are on the lower floor. There is an electric stove with ceramic hotplates, a microwave oven and full-size refrigerator. The shower is placed within a large bath. This bath is NOT to be used as a SPA, as it takes all the hot water. The toilet and washing machine are located in a corner. The unit is heated by a wood burning oven with glass door - the flue warms the bedroom above where there is a Q/S bed. On an outside patio there are a table and chairs plus bbq. From the bedroom sunbathing deck on the upper floor, dramatic views can be enjoyed over the lake. Covered car parking is located outside the unit at the top of a paved driveway; a boat trailer with a small or medium-sized boat can also be fitted in. Large boats can be parked in the court opposite the property entrance. A double foam mattress is available on the floor to accommodate a young child at an extra $5 per night - linen should be provided by the guests for this. Guests may bring a maximum of 2 pets, with the first being free and the second an extra $5 per night.
Locality
Mallacoota remains a pristine area with lakes and beaches, surrounded by Croajingalong National Park, a World Biosphere Reserve. It is ideal for relaxed, nature-based holidays. Activities include beach and lake swimming, river and lake boat cruises, use of hire boats, ocean and lake fishing, boating, beach walks, bushwalking and bird watching. There are 2 restaurants and 3 cafes serving fresh healthy food and good coffee. The bakery has its own cafe. The town also has 2 supermarkets, a pharmacy, a medical practice with 3 doctors and a community health centre. Mallacoota has been known over many years for its art and music activities, often attracting well-known performers (eg. Eric Bogle, Ronald Farren-Price and Slava Grigoryan). Admission prices are remarkably low. Altogether, Mallacoota is a place to unwind from big-city pressures and to experience nature at its most unspoiled.
Property
The Polehouse is located in the hilly Karbeethong area of Mallacoota, with close access to the lake and National Park. The main town is situated about 5 minutes away along a scenic lakeshore road. The property faces North across the lake and a farm with grazing cattle, picking up sea breezes and plenty of sun. The ocean is situated to the NE. Sunrise can be enjoyed across the lake, and the Howe Range turns pink as sunset approaches. Being at the bottom of a court, there is no through traffic. Guests often stay on the property most of the day to relax and take in the stunning views. They are encouraged to use herbs from the garden in their cooking.

Very nice hosts, very well set up facility with amazing views and peaceful . The only quibble was with the shower which was sited over a large , now unused spa bath . Not easy to access when you are aged in your 70's and there are no grab rails to hang onto . Not as agile as we used to be !

Very unusual build of Adobe and cute.
Brilliant views over the Lake. Not a heap of dog rules which was great. Dogs just not allowed on the carpeted area which was just one bedroom. The rest of the floors were rough slate so ideal. Be aware the Polehouse is in the hilly area of town, hence the views, so you need to be fit enough if you wish to walk your dogs from here. The only leash free area is on the town oval.
Oh, there is no fenced area at the Polehouse.
John, our host, was very friendly and accommodating.
We, are our two large dogs, had a great time.

We absolutely love John's place. It has everything you need and the location is wonderful. It is very quiet and looks over a paddock with kangaroos and onto the inlet - which is stunning. There are stairs to the mezzanine bedroom. It is perfect for a couple or single person.

Wonderful experience
Beautiful views and wildlife right on the doorstep. Although very hilly and steep. A bit far from the town and beaches but great for peace and quiet. Everything is there in the fully equipped kitchen. Friendly and welcoming proprietor who made arrangements for me to get into the property in his absence. I had a wonderful stay and will go back again.

Good location
The property was not up to scratch in some areas, such as bad fitting curtains. Overall property needs updating.
But did enjoy time in Mallacoota

Short break
Quaint abode, but property unsuitable for elderly people. No heating, ( only coonara) no prepared wood for fire. Question safety of the stairs. Pleasant outlook.

Aust bush land experience in Mallacoota
Very tranquil setting on the edge of town. Kangaroo in the adjoining farm land. Wattle birds and king parrots in the native garden. Host is a lovely gentleman.

Amazing location - magnificent inlet views.
John the owner was so easy to deal with ... the unit had everything I needed, and I would stay again.
The only thing I would suggest is to have some kind of info sheet with local info, wifi code and how to turn on the spa! Apart from that, a great stay.

There could have been some added touches - like tea coffee milk ( for the price) We were told not to use too much water and the landlord was slightly unfriendly Pleasant enough though

Mallacoota Holiday
We spent six nights in our lovely one bedroom unit, sharing it with our small dog Zoe. Everything was far nicer than the photos and we were suitably impressed with our accommodation, which is great value for money. John was very friendly and helpful and we felt very much at home. We would thoroughly recommend this as a place to stay with your furry friend. Meryl & Jean Bernard

Quiet area/ edge of town- surrounded by Regenerating bush, with grunting Koalas at night; views of green fields with healthy looking Roos and the ever changing colours of the Inlet...With the light filled bedroom upstairs , and the living and ablutions downstairs...ensure your knees can handle it.On our first morning the kettle carked it, but John bought / replaced it that day. Thank you John, for the very special stay in Mallacoota, allowing us to enjoy the town and surrounds- and getting a glimpse of the suffering and stress the locals have had to deal with in 2020

Can’t wait to come back
We were blown away by the views. The best part about this stay was the peace we got to experience. Our border collie had the time of his life. John was lovely, accommodating and helpful. We were impressed with the accommodation as a whole. Well equipped, breath taking views and the coonara heated up the whole place, making it a warm and comfortable sleep during the winter nights.
We’ll be back!

EXCELLENT STAY
Our experience at John’s property was unsurpassed. He was welcoming and very attentive without being obtrusive. The property was excellent with sweeping water views, wildlife roaming nearby. A magnificent, tranquil and beautiful setting and first rate venue and facilities. We will definitely be returning!

Unsurpassable view!
We didn’t get the address or John’s phone number in confirmation emails? Went to wrong “google” suggestion. Owner there very helpful and directed us on. On arrival, delighted to discover it was the same property we had stayed at 10 years ago.
Wood heater is charming and fine if you know how to run them. (Tip for guests - leave the firebox door ajar until the heater is well alight). Suggestion for John, provide a simple electric fan heater for those who don’t want, or struggle with, a wood heater.
A charming and pleasant experience. Will cheerfully return.

Great potential but needs a new bed and a cleaner
We were disappointed on arrival as to the mustiness of the property. It had been clearly left locked up for a considerable period of time. As it was hot and airless in the bedroom we wanted to put the ceiling fan on but it was so covered in dust and cobwebs that my husband had to get a vacuum from the owner to clean it before we could turn it on. We then had to move the bed to prevent any remaining dust from flying around. In doing so stuffing fell out of the mattress which appeared to be a queen mattress on a double base. The whole place needed a thorough clean.
It is such a pity as the potential is enormous and the view is spectacular. The kitchen was well equipped and with a little more love and attention this accommodation could be fabulous.
