About this house rental
Town of Southold Rental Permit 0605
The Sea Captain's Home is a sprawling, well-preserved, 4-bedroom-plus Italianate Victorian, featuring large rooms, tall ceilings and striking detail, on a natural 3/4 acre property. Built in 1860, the house is a lovely combination of the gorgeous architectural detail of the time, and the modern amenities of today.
Situated between Greenport and Orient, in the quiet hamlet of East Marion, this peaceful spot is surrounded by farmland, with open fields behind, and wild coastline minutes away. Greenport is a five-minute drive, and any number of local beaches, from the quiet sandy bay beach a half mile away, to the the more dramatic sound beach at the end of Rocky Point Road, can easily be reached by bike. Sep's farm stand, Angel's country store, the now-legendary lavender fields and the Hampton Jitney stop are all a short walk away.
When you're back from the beach, vineyards, shopping, or from a great meal at one of the many restaurants of the North Fork, you can hang out, relax and watch a movie on the smart TV, play music on the Sonos. Cook on the 6-burner Wolf restaurant stove and enjoy meals in the huge dining room. Or have a long soak in one of the deep clawfoot tubs When the day's over, the beds are all super comfortable with new linens, and the whole house is air conditioned.
You can also grill in the large backyard filled with shade trees, next to acres of open land for peace, privacy, and a great view.... especially at sunset. It stays cool in summer back there, perfect for reading in one of the six lounge chairs, or taking a snooze in the hammock. The cedar table on the brick patio seats 10 comfortably. And don't miss the outdoor in a hidden away in a little private garden.
We offer all of the comforts of a modern home, but with a little something rustic left from days gone by.
Please note - WE DO NOT ALLOW ANY PARTIES OR GATHERINGS AT THE SEA CAPTAIN'S HOME. Any celebrations are to be enjoyed by our overnight guests only, without prior written approval by the owners.
The booking guest is required to provide a photo ID with payment.

My family including grandparents, parents, and kids ranging from 10-14 stayed for a long weekend in October 2023. We are seasoned vacation home renters. We had an amazing time-- the house is interesting and lovely. We appreciated so many things about this rental, here are just a few: 1) Location is perfect (but a car is a must) close to vineyards, farms, Greenport, and an abundance of excellent dining options. So much to see and explore a stone's throw from the property. 2) The house was spacious to accommodate all of us (no one sleeping on a couch). We loved the massive front porch and a dining table long enough to seat all 8 of us (with room to spare). 3) The configuration of the rooms (2 king rooms, 1 twin, 1 room with a queen and full) was perfect for us and the beds were plenty comfortable 4) the kitchen is a little tight-- (not unexpected for a big old house), but very well stocked with plenty of plates, glasses, etc. We found everything we needed to make some meals at the house including some basics like salt, pepper, etc. All in all, we fell in love with this home and hope to have the chance to come back again to explore some more. I couldn't recommend this property enough! - Terra

Sea Captain’s Home was perfect for our family!
It’s a spacious, well kept property, with everything you could need and want.
Clean, comfortable, and relaxing.
Communication was flawless, including a comprehensive guide to the house and the best local spots to see.
We would return in a heartbeat and look forward to future visits.

I rented the house for the weekend as a gift for my wife’s 50th. My in-laws live out of state and I wanted more quality time then I would get otherwise. First night we enjoyed a dinner in the house followed by late night conversations laughs and a glass or two of wine. Saturday included wineries by day and dinner in Greenport at night. Sunday morning brunch and it was over. We all said it was the best time we have shared in a long time. Thank you

Lovely Summer Weekend Stay
Our group of 5 very much enjoyed staying at the Captain's House - it is much larger and more spacious than the photos suggest. The house is equipped with everything you might need for a relaxing weekend. Joe is super responsive. Beds super comfortable and AC window units in bedrooms worked well on a hot weekend. Nearby beaches were spectacular and surprisingly quiet - we felt like we had found secret beaches! The whole setting is just super peaceful and we would definitely stay here again. Thank you for a great stay!

A beautiful home
We so enjoyed our stay! The home is absolutely beautiful. A perfect blend of north fork history and modern amenities. Honestly, the worst part was having to leave!

Great location
Front porch was a great place for us to gather for morning coffee and evening cocktail. Kitchen was well supplied and there were plenty of towels. It slept 8 comfortably. Downfall was that it only had one shower so it was challenging getting ready for the wedding we were in town for. Great location - short distance from the ferry.

Gorgeous Historic Home-Perfect for a Weekend at the Vineyards
The Sea Captain's "Crib" was truly incredible. We comfortably slept 9 adult women and had plenty of space to spread out. It is conveniently located to Greenport and the vineyards. Hosts were extremely communicative and quick to answer any questions I had during my stay. Would absolutely recommend this stay to any family or group of friends looking for a home with character and convenience.

Great Country Living
My husband and I spent a wonderful month in Maria and Joe’s Sea Captain’s Home.
We felt comfy and relaxed and at home from Day 1. The front parlor, the family room, the dining room, and kitchen are pleasurable locations, as are the upstairs bedrooms. We enjoyed our mornings outside at the cedar table observing rabbits scurrying by and looking for the deer in the north pasture. It was lovely having a backyard, side yard with a tomato/eggplant patch, and front yard, which is recessed from the main road, thus quieting the passing traffic when sitting in the wicker furniture on the charming front porch. We loved the location, placing us between Sep’s farm stand, which has wonderful pot pies and of course fresh produce, and Fork and Anchor, a terrific sandwich shop selling breakfast burritos with as much hot sauce as you can stand. As Joe had run out of time to complete the town’s newly requested paperwork to acquire our Beach Pass sticker, he offered several alternatives to accommodate our need. In addition, we were fine walking to Gillette beach and driving to Orient Point. And, by showing our lease to the Truman Beach staff, we were able to acquire their parking permit—great water but look out for jellies! We took many walks and bike rides in the neighborhood--a great time! We highly recommend the Sea Captain's Home.

June in East Marion
A beautiful, well restored, 19th C home with all modern amenities.
There is a large outdoor area with great privacy.
The four bedrooms are well-appointed with comfortable beds.
It is one of the distinctive properties in East Marion, walkable to some wonderful beaches. The living room is very cozy with TV and all the new gadgets.
It was a very relaxing month with visiting family and I would have stayed longer. The house takes some effort to get it comfortable for everyone, and the bathroom upstairs and the one downstairs may not please everyone. The outdoor shower with two shower heads is divine. The owner is very responsive but it is up to the guests to make it work. You must be adventurous enough to take on a house of this size and history. We loved cooking on the giant Wolf stove- even without pilot. This is one of the wonderful parts of the North Fork and it was amazing to watch the summer come to life! Thank you to Joe and Maria.

A charming weekend
We had 7 adults and one dog here for a weekend. The location of the home was very convenient to Greenport, and not too far from the vineyards we wanted to visit. The home is clean, comfortable and full of charm. There were lots of beds and furniture to fit our large group. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook a big brunch, which we enjoyed on the beautiful outdoor table in the backyard. I would highly recommend this home and would love to stay here again!

This was a road trip getaway for my spouse, I and our dog. A charming Victorian home with eclectic furnishings. The master bed was quite comfortable and the outdoor shower was delightful. Loads of indoor and outdoor space for relaxing, gathering and dining. Owners were very responsive and take pride in their home.Nicely located. A short drive from the Orient Point ferry and a short walk to Seb’s Farm Stand, the Fork and Anchor and the Lavender Farm. A ten minute drive to Greenport. Beaches and wineries are in close proximity. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, non-residence are not allowed to purchase parking permits to the town and hamlet beaches during this time. If you choose to park without a pass you run the risk of a parking ticket. (We did see enforcement at one of the hamlet beaches.) Access to the state beaches was available for a small fee. If you choose to go to Orient Point during peak times make sure to get there early or it may be be full. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay in the North Fork area.

Captain’s Home away from home!!
Our family of four had a wonderful stay in this charming and spacious home. The beds were comfy, the kitchen was great and the kids (and parents) enjoyed the big yard. It’s a short and pleasant walk to the beaches. Can’t wait to go back.

Book club getaway for 7
Great dining table, lights in fireplace a nice touch, comfy beds and couches, eclectic furnishings ; SONOS system nice, would have been nice to have 2 showers for a group of 7, but for just 2 nights it was not an issue.

Bachelorette Weekend
If you are looking for a comfortable and classy place to stay while enjoying a weekend with friends or family this is a great home. Lovely dining room that seats a crowd. Plenty of space in adjoining living areas for family time.
This is a well preserved Victorian home with lovely architecture. The beds are clean and plenty of pillows are provided including a couple of body pillows. Towels were nice.
The kitchen is fully stocked as far as dishes go and there was a nice 14 cup coffee maker. Plenty of outside furniture and patio dining space plus grilld. Lots of games, books and some toys as well. The hosts are great. Their main concerns are preserving the beautiful home with loving care.
We had seven adult women and everyone had a place to sleep comfortably.
I would highly recommend this home and the local community activities which are numerous.

Comfortable and elegant
Our stay at the Sea Captain's home could not have been better. We were a multi-generational family and both the indoor and outdoor spaces fit our needs perfectly. The bedrooms were comfortable and bright; the dining room was expansive for a family dinner; the outdoor space was great for lounging, eating and drinking. The location was perfect for exploring Orient and the North Fork wineries.

Great, relaxing weekend stay
We had an awesome time at this home. The property and its amenities were very clearly and accurately listed, and the communication from the homeowner before we arrived was super helpful - especially the recommendations for various activities nearby!
We had a very relaxing, fun girls' weekend at their house. Located on a main road it was very easy to navigate local wineries and beaches, and the house was the perfect size to fit our group of 9 without feeling overcrowded. I highly recommend, Thank you, Joseph and Maria!

North Fork Paradise
This property was a fantastic spot for my sister’s bachelorette weekend. We were a group of 10 30-40 year olds (and my 63 year old Mom!) looking for a place to return to after the wineries. The house turned into our favorite place to be and we changed some of our plans just to have more time there! The house has so much character and has every amenity you could imagine. Many of us spent time exploring the house and backyard and everyone LOVED the outdoor shower. We were the cleanest group of women on Long Island! I’m certain some of us will be returning to the house with our own families in the future. The owners were fantastic to work with as well. Also loved the SONOS speaker system. Would highly recommend!

Beware, this house is a scam. Not one bad review and house was infested with ants
We rented this house in August 2018. When we got there we smelled gas. After extended conversations with owner, they sent a technician who confirmed a gas leak. Furthermore, the house was infested with ants which were crawling over food in the Kitchen. The owner had the nerve to tell us that the gas leak was not a big problem and that all of the houses in East Marion had ants. Really, ants streaming in from the kitchen window frame and all over food? Normal? I think not! Beware.
