The cleanliness of the room was very poor and we have stayed at this venue 3 times in the past over the last 10 years.
We had a 4 person private room with private bathroom. The room had multiple very OLD spiders webs with dead bugs trapped, around the room and above the head of the top bunk beds (which is pretty grim). There was a previous customers contact lenses stuck to the wall in the toilet and the sink in the main room and the drain / grate in the shower was full of hair (and whatever else) and smelled really bad! I have never gone out of my way to leave a negative review in 20+ years of travelling but as I booked this for me and some friends, I was quite embarrassed.
4.1
Beautiful location and property. Good facilities for cooking and relaxing with a number of rooms including a library.
The staff were helpful but usually only one person on reception which for the size of property and the fact it was fully booked, I would have expected more staff. Rooms were basic which I was expecting but there was very little storage considering there were four beds and only one locker/cupboard.

Peaceful

Nice to sit outside for breakfast
Clean bedding
Clean facilities
Well stocked reception with mini bar, coffee , souvenirs
Helpful staff
Mattress and pillows are a little too solid for me but that may be a bunkbed thing

The location is fantastic and within easy reach of Castleton centre and walking routes. Beautiful building and grounds.
The room was very hot and small. The recycling lorry came very early and we had to listen to the containers of recycling being loaded at about 7am.

The location was perfect for the exploring Castleton. Lovely grounds at the property. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was a little limited.

Everything in the hostel is in good quality!
Everything was incredibly good.

Great location and lots of parking space. If you are self catering there is about 4 or 5 ovens, microwaves, lots of space and utensils for cooking. I had breakfast and it was delicious, great value considering kids eat free if you get the £9.99 cooked breakfast.
We walked to Castleton which takes 15 mins.
Could do with little DIY jobs in rooms like painting and decorating, there was paint coming off in parts of wall. Nothing major.

Very damp. Awful damp smell. If was lower in price then would appreciate you get what you pay for, however stayed in many a YHA and this I expected to be better given the higher price. For us, won't be returning and ended up leaving after one night even though we paid for two.

Large self catering kitchen, well equipped. Location perfect for hiking.
Only one freezer, which was totally iced up, in need of defrosting.
4.1
Good value stay in a clean and comfortable hostel. Good location for Castleton, 5 mins walk away, and nice staff
Breakfast bacon was a bit tough but that’s the only negative we could think of!

Clean rooms, nice exterior venue.
We arrived a day early to go on a hike. We figured we'd go to the front desk to let them know that we were parking there. The two people at the reception decided to talk down on us telling us that we should have given them notice, even though there was nothing in the checking in email about that. We apologised. And then they reiterated the point. The 2nd time didn't feel that great and quite unnecessary in my opinion.
Also, we went for the breakfast. We were served 1 piece of item each (sausage, bacon, egg etc). The grumpy guy serving it had about 20 sausages left, and instead of offering us some more, took it all away as soon as it hit 9. Nice to know that the YHA are encouraging food waste. And 1 sausage, 1 egg, 1 bacon, beans is not good value for money when you're paying £10 for it. All the other punters were going up for seconds (I arrived before my party at 8:30 and saw them going up for more). But nope, none for us. They told us we had to book a time up until 9am. We were completely tired after a 8 hour hike and couldn't really make a decision so just went for the latest. But they could have told us that all the food would start to be taken away at 9.
Basically, and I know this is a hostel, but the service could have been better here.

The location and grounds were beautiful. A lovely, short walk into Castleton.
The shower was a bit smelly (stagnant water).
4.1
Very friendly and amenable. Breakfast was good and rapid. Room was comfortable. Car park was perfect for the hostel and for access to local activities. Wonderful staff.
Nothing really. The building is an old one and in need of some love and attention but this adds to its attraction.
4.1
Breakfast was really good
Location was excellent
Outdoor area was fantastic
Beds in comfy and noisy
Other groups really noisy late at night so woke up me and my family
4.1
The location was excellent with a bus stop at the bottom of their access road.
There were loos outside the rooms if you wanted a but more privacy.
A chair would be good inside the room.
