About this house rental
Welcome to Indigo House, a beautifully appointed home on the hill above Governors Harbour, Eleuthera. Indigo has spectacular harbor and sea views, and is within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the pink sands of world famous French Leave Beach.
Indigo has a large private swimming pool, three outdoor dining areas, and a harbor-view terrace, a perfect location to watch the sun set over the Caribbean. The main upper level of Indigo House features spectacular harbour views from all major rooms. It contains a large foyer and an open-plan living and dining room elegantly furnished from Restoration Hardware. The spacious living room has ample lounge seating, and an office area furnished with a vintage desk. The dining room features a 15-foot table with seating for up to 18. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances (all new!), including a five-burner gas range, and provides counter seating for three.
The master bedroom, also on the upper level of the house, has a king bed and beautiful harbour views. A second king bedroom on the upper level overlooks the pool and gardens. Each has a full bathroom with a walk-in shower.
The lower level has a second spacious living room that opens onto a covered terrace leading down to the lush tropical gardens. There is a full kitchen downstairs for guests' convenience. The downstairs level has two bedrooms, one king (plus a single day bed) and one queen, each with a full bathroom. There is also a sofa bed in the downstairs living room. With the day bed and the sofa bed, Indigo can sleep up to 10 guests.
A tropical garden surrounds charming Indigo House. Amenities include air conditioning throughout, ceiling fans in every room, washer and dryer, STARLINK super-fast high speed internet, TV, iPod dock, a landline telephone, gas grill, water filtration system, and a bicycle.
The town of Governors Harbour, a two-minute walk down the hill, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, a dive shop, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.
Walking down the hill in the other direction takes you to French Leave Beach, the finest beach on the island and one of the great beaches of the hemisphere. By foot, it’s less than ten minutes to French Leave, a mile-long crescent of pink sand that is usually deserted. Most visitors to Eleuthera rent a car during their stay, because the island is rural and spread out, and a car is the only practical way to get around. By car, Indigo House is just a minute from French Leave Beach.
Eleuthera is famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is completely safe any time of the day or night. Enjoy the rare experience of picking up hitch-hikers and leaving your keys in the car wherever you go. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. You can rent power boats, sailboats, sea kayaks, bikes. You can have a charter captain take you out for excursions of various types, including fishing. There is excellent sightseeing as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, a bottomless ocean hole, many unique beaches, historic churches and 19th century homes, and small villages to explore.

The home is beautifully maintained and furnished. Love the rugs and pillows. Very comfortable. The bedrooms had good mattresses and plenty of room for our clothes in drawers. The refrigerator had some welcome goodies. The pool is amazing! Thank you very much!

Our stay at Indigo House was fantastic. We chose this rental as a last-minute replacement for one that I had gone sideways and we’re so lucky that it had just come available after some recent renovations and updates. The location in Governors Harbour is ideal with gorgeous views, walkability to plenty and what felt like complete privacy. Some days we tried to agree on whether we felt like we’re were staying near the coast of Italy, Costa Rica or the Bahamas. The roosters crowing were a perfect addition to the experience and although we heard them often, they were welcomed and far better than any noises we would hear at home. The house caretaker, Elizabeth, is a gem and so helpful with the house tour and orientation of the home. We understand that sometimes in rental properties things don’t work. We had an issue with the grill one night and Elizabeth and the owners had a solution almost immediately the next day. That was impressive. The gas oven was a bit tricky just because some of the knobs were not labeled and there was some troubleshooting but we got it figured out. We came home one evening to a hot lasagna Elizabeth baked for our family as a surprise after a day of touring southern Eleuthera. We were able to walk to the Friday Fish Fry and had a blast and great local Bahamian fare. Indigo House fit our group of 2 adults and 4 teens nicely with plenty of room to spare. The outdoor shower and pool were so great at the end of a long hot beach day at French Leave or Twin Coves beaches or after a day of touring other parts of Eleuthera. We were lucky enough to meet the Owner and enjoyed that connection as well. We hope to make it back and will definitely stay at Indigo House upon our return.

My husband & I, our 4 adult kids & their friends stayed at the Indigo house July 4th week. The check in process was super easy. When I called Elizabeth to let her know we arrived early, she hurried up to the house to meet us & ensured the house was ready. Elizabeth was super sweet & gracious enough to give us a tour of every corner of the house & gave us advice on things to do.
The house was a perfect size for our family of 9 adults & we spent a lot of time relaxing in the gorgeous pool. The upstairs in the house was very nice & true to the pics online. But, the downstairs looked outdated a bit. The house & kitchen is fully stocked w/anything you would need to prepare a meal. However, the gas stove/oven upstairs needs some work. The burners were hit or miss and only one worked really well. We never used the oven upstairs as the letters/numbers were rubbed off the knobs & replaced w/paint that wasn't recognizable. Although Elizabeth advised us to take a pic of the knobs to know where to turn them back to, we just chose not to chance it because it was so confusing.
Other than the stove, my biggest complaint was the dishwasher that did NOT work. This was very important to me since our family was so big. I really didn't want to hand wash everything on vaction & honestly would've felt more comfortable sanitizing all the dishes in a dishwasher.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay & the house was great. But for the cost & size of our family a fully functioning kitchen is key

For our first trip to Eleuthera, we decided on Indigo House to be in Governor's Harbor (five of us, 3 children in their 20s). Walked to Da Perk, Buccaneer, 1648, Bacchus (the bread!) This house does not disappoint. Very private even though it is in town. Plenty of room to spread out. The kitchen is so well equipped, cooking was fun! The outdoor spaces were the best. We ate our meals overlooking the harbor. The kids used the A/C at night downstairs, but we didn't need it on the main level. Lots of coolers, variety of beach chairs, even some snorkel equipment. Since we visited in Feb. the pool was cool, but we quickly got used to it (same temp at ocean). Elizabeth was very responsive and helped with details and directions. As for the beaches, French Leave was the best, so this house is ideally located! Yes, the roosters and chickens are pretty noisy, but way better than roads, construction, planes, etc. that we experience in the US. The silence of Eleuthera was a pleasant surprise.

This stay was our third time staying at Indigo house, so, that in itself tells you we must love it! The house itself is in excellent condition and well equipped. We had no problems at all on our stay however the staff were at the other end of the phone waiting to help should we need it.
The property was spotless on arrival with some extra touches to make it feel welcoming. Location is ideal in the middle of Govenors harbour and only a short walk or drive to the beach. From start to finish the booking process was smooth with very professional staff in charge. Can’t wait until next time.

We had a wonderful week in Indigo house. the pool area is gorgeous. The home is beautiful and very comfortable. We often drive to various beaches in Eleuthera, so I didn’t mind not being beach front. It was fun to be able to walk to the Buccaneer and downtown. The rental manager was extremely responsive and helpful in our trip planning. Elizabeth, the housekeeper, keeps the house in wonderful condition. She even welcomed us with a pan of baked lasagna on our arrival. We’d definitely go again!

Indigo House is quite large so the 4 of us had plenty of privacy and comfort. The pool is large and the area is lovely. Elizabeth, the housekeeper was helpful and the house was clean. Mark came often to help with problems. These included electrical outlets that didn't work, and lack of water and water pressure. On Eleuthera chickens run wild, thus the unwelcome chorus of roosters is heard from a few hours after midnight until sunset. The kitchen at Indigo house is extremely well stocked from gadgets to spices and we ate most of our meals there. We only found 3 nearby restaurants that we liked: Bouganvilia, FrenchLeave and the Buccaneer. We took a day trip to Harbor Island which was fun, but mostly we enjoyed the sun and water.

It was a great experience. The house was fully stocked with kitchen gear and beach items. It was clean. Elizabeth was wonderful. They offered a great welcome gift of wine, food essentials, and a delicious lasagna.
It was a convenient location in governors that was central to everything.
We hadn’t realized before arrival that it’s two completely different flats within the same roof. Two beds and a kitchen upstairs and two beds and a kitchen downstairs.
The gardener found and cut fresh coconuts for my kids.
Elizabeth brought us fresh flowers.
We accidentally left the house key on our rental car key. The property manager arranged to have the key returned and was very helpful.
As sort of a funny side note. The home has both city and cistern water as a backup. It took us 3 days to figure out that a random animal sound that seemed to echo in the kitchen was a frog that lives in the cistern.
We did enjoy the house and amenities. My only negative remark is that the photos in the listing feel like they were taken both professionally and when the home was just starting it’s journey as a rental. So it definitely looks amazing in the photos, while it’s a little more “worn in” now. The kitchen especially.

We had another great trip to Eleuthera. Indigo House was perfect for our family. The kids loved the pool and my wife and I loved the terrace looking out over Governor’s Harbour. What a great spot to sit and read a book, enjoy lunch or have a drink before dinner. The central location was great for visiting our favorite spots all over the island. The house was well appointed (just as advertised on Homeaway), everything in the house was in good working order, and it was well furnished. It felt very much like staying at a friends home. The caretaker Mark and housekeeper Elizabeth were both very pleasant and helpful. My wife declared Indigo House her favorite out of the 8 houses we have rented over the last 11 years visiting Eleuthera, so there is a good chance we may be back some time in the future. The owners were very easy to deal with and Matt and Tara from Eleuthera Vacation Rentals helped with arrangements and checked to see we were settled in comfortably.

We stayed at this beautiful home for 9 nights. The house is as pictured, except the downstairs sofa has been replaced and the upstairs bathroom has been renovated. The kitchens were well-stocked with everything you need and there were some games, books & movies for evenings we spent in. A wealth of information is left for renters and the Beach Book is there, which is a necessity if you are exploring beaches. Items like coolers, Tupperware, and ice packs are a bonus for an island where most come to explore and beach picnic.
We truly enjoyed the outside seating areas, they are so cozy and the sunset view from the living room balcony was post card perfect. Who wants to be inside in the Bahamas? Also, the garden and grounds were such a treat. We spent some time figuring out what each plant and tree was and enjoyed some coconuts and fresh salads from the garden.
For those who are not used to island living, things we take for granted like electricity and city water commonly go out. The electric flickered a few times while we were there but we noticed there were plenty of lanterns just in case. The water, however was out for 5 days and we were relieved that this house is equipped with both city water and a self-serving cistern.
The home is 1/2 way up the hill in Governor's Harbour - definitely walkable for most and a 2-3 minutes to the little town or Cupids Cay. Walking to French Leave beach took us 15 minutes, driving was 2. We brought home a little sand from French Leave and some from Pink sands beach in Harbour Island - surprisingly, French Leave sand is much more pink.
Elizabeth checked in on us a couple of times and is very sweet and helpful. Mark was a complete gem and answered any question we had and came over as soon as we let him know the water was out and showed us how to switch over to the cistern and back, etc. Tamillion does a great job - very evident in the grounds and brought us some fresh coconuts. Matt Simon is responsive, helpful, and very professional as is the home owner.

My family: myself and my husband , 4 adult children and a 81 year old grandmother stayed at Indigo House the week between Christmas and New Years. From the beginning, Matt Simon, the property manager was very cordial and helpful to me via several emails. This is a very professional and courteous company! We settled on Indigo House as it met our space needs and was centrally located. The description of the house is accurate regarding location, layout and amenities ( it was well stocked!) The only problems were a broken AC in one bedroom and the build up of heat in the living area when using the stove. The house was clean and the addition of fresh flowers was a great touch! Elizabeth, the housekeeper is a lovely person.
We cooked dinner almost very night using fresh fish and lobster purchased from fishermen right down the hill and lettuces and herbs from the backyard garden! We ate lunch at Buccaneer just down the street, Tippys and a wonderful dinner at 1648 at French Leave. We also had a blast at the Friday Night Fish Fry.
We rented 2 jeeps from a group that Matt recommended and explored the beaches and hidden spots that make Eleuthera such a special and magical island.. Even though we were there during a busy week, we often were the only ones on the beach and we never felt like "tourists"! We all agreed that it was a perfect week and we wished we could have stayed longer!

The house was clean and our housekeeper Elizabeth was very friendly and helpful. She came to check on us a few times to make sure we had everything we needed. We had a group of 7 (3 couples one single) and it fit us all nicely with plenty of room and privacy for everyone. The pool was wonderful and perfect for the hot afternoons when the beach didn't have enough shade. Everything was easy walking, there is a pretty big hill the house is on, but if you are in fairly good shape it isn't an issue. We walked to the fish fry, club med beach, Da Perk, 1648, and to the store, with no issue. The view is pretty from the back porch, but if you really want to see the beautiful colors of the sunset its best to go to the beach or hit up a dinner on the harbor side. The bugs were crazy when we went, that is not the fault of the house, just know if its been raining a lot, some skin so soft and some deet are going to be nessisary. The pool gets great shade in the evening and the morning sun. The kitchen had everything we needed! The beds were nice but the pillows were made from angel wings, I wanted to bring them home with me! They had pleanty of towels and a cloths line to dry out everything after swimming. The air conditioner is in the rooms, so we used them at night, and then opened windows and used fans for the breeze during the day (if we were staying in). I have stayed at another house on the island, and although it was good in diffrent ways, this is a house I would actually return to for my next trip due to space, convenience, and beauty.

We stayed on Eleuthera in the Indigo House for the week of July 7 - 13. The house was lovely! The four bedrooms were spacious enough for all 8 adults plus one 8 yr old and 1 infant. The house came with a pack-n-play, so the baby had a comfortable place to sleep. The outdoor sitting areas were the highlight of this house! We thoroughly enjoyed the back terrace in the morning for our coffee and again late at night for the view. The pool was an absolute gem! Clean and warm, it got plenty of use all day long. We barely ate our meals inside, as the table in the outdoor area by the pool was big enough to fit all of us for a sit-down meal. We were only minutes by foot from the town, so if we needed something we would just take a walk down the hill and pick it up. We walked a couple of times to the French Leave Beach, but by foot it would take 15 minutes to get there, so we mostly drove and parked by the beach path. We ate at the Beach House Restaurant one night and Tippy's another night. Both have excellent food!! If you are looking for a relaxing vacation - this is the place to go!
