We were met with friendly staff, who in no time completed our check in, and served us with a drink while we waited. We were then guided to our room with clear explanation of things we needed to know. The breakfast and dinner were really an eye-opening experience in the Japanese food culture. The private in room onsen was just superb.
Some of the decorations might need to be fixed due to use.

Amenities, friendly and helpful staff, free shuttle service
Bathroom is a tad dated but not unexpected given its a traditional ryokan

Our second time at Biwako Hanakaido. This stay also to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff remembered that and congratulated us. The dinner and breakfast were very delicious. The room was nice with a big outdoor bathtub. Very relaxing. Not to forget the beautiful Sakura trees in full bloom.

Great views from our private open-air onsen bath. amazing 11-course traditional Japanese dinner
Reservation staff would not respond to me in Japanese, even though I wrote to them in Japanese - they addressed my Japanese husband instead

The building was recently renovated so it was clean and looked new.
They had one 200v charging plug for ev cars.
We chose a room titled “with open air bath” waiting for a private onsen in our room. It ended up being a small empty bath tub in a tiny balcony. The staff were quite strict and insisted that it is what it is. There was no cancellation refund and we ended up not using the tiny bath tub and renting the paid private area of the main onsen.
The food was not to our taste though to be fair I am sure it was considered a good Japanese meal.
All in all not a great experience and we won’t consider it again. But I can see how some would enjoy it.

The food was absolutely incredible. The staff were kind and accommodating. Quality of the hotel resides mostly there and in the quality of the onsen.
For the prices the room was good but not mind blowing. We can feel the rooms are not all new.
