About this house rental
This traditional cottage holds large families beautifully, yet can be a cozy getaway for couples. Five bedrooms sleep 12 guests. The first floor master bedroom has a queen bed, large dresser, and ample closet space; it opens off the craftsman living room. Upstairs brings three small bedrooms and a huge loft room. Two bedrooms have a sturdy single bed each, and the third bedroom holds two bunk beds (four singles). The spacious loft offers four single beds and a full-sized crib, skylights, and bead board throughout. Plenty of dresser space for an entire season of clothes. Ceiling fans serve all of the bedrooms, so even at the height of the season, the rooms stay pleasant.
The new kitchen was designed for large gatherings in mind. Its farm sink and custom concrete penninsula allow you to provide for all your guests. Dishwasher and disposal make clean-up easy. Full-sized refridgerator, electric range and oven, and microwave complete the appliances. The adjacent eating area is equipped with a central table, small game table, and side buffet. Just out the back door you will find a fully screened-in porch with a long picnic table for more indoor dining and comfortable soft seating for morning coffee or evening wine. The back porch leads to a small grilling deck with a larger charcoal grill, and there is a fire ring in the back yard for s'mores and cottage night life.
Two full bathrooms serve the guests, one with an enclosed shower and one with a full tub-shower combination. Unusual for this cottage area is a complete laundry room, housing a high efficiency washer and dryer and a lots of counter space for folding.
The kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, screened-in back porch, and upstairs loft are new additions made ten years ago. The master bedroom, three upstairs bedrooms, and living room are all 1901 originals with the original hardwood floors, cherry trimmed windows, and oak staircase with birch log railing. Living room has a charming corner stone fireplace. Use it with the door open for a crackling fire, or close the ventilator insert and crank the output fan for an effective heat source. Ample woodpile off the front porch.
The Woods Cottage is situated a block off the now-famous M22 state road that runs along some of the best property in Michigan. For pristine dunes and forests, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is right up the road. For the best shore for rock-collecting, bonfire-building, or storm-watching, Point Betsie Lighthouse is even closer. Take M22 five minutes south into the resort town of Frankfort for shopping, restaurants, ice cream, a beach day at Lake Michigan, or a beer at the popular local brewery.
Cycling enthusiasts will find themselves enjoying the five-star, 22 mile route around Crystal Lake, starting one block out the cottage front door. We provide two double kayaks to launch at any of the many public accesses in the area, and the laundry room supplies life jackets in all sizes, from adult XL to toddler. If a daily walk or jog starts your day right, you can choose the back roads in the woods, the flat and shady M22, or the sunny South Shore Drive along clear blue Crystal. Family floats down the Betsie or Platte River can be a fun day trip. If the weather calls for inside activities, plenty of games and puzzles are provided for all ages, and the local library has a fantastic selection and view; great coffee shop across Main Street. A small tv and dvd player is situated in the cottage kitchen corner to keep little ones occupied, if needed. Free wifi is always flowing, so work can still get done.
The Woods Cottage was bought and renovated for our family of six kids, plus friends. We host an annual fall retreat here, too. Our family has been vacationing at the west end of Crystal Lake for six generations. As our kids grow up, more school and sports activities tie us to our home in Grand Rapids, but our time spent in this cottage each summer is treasured the whole year through. We hope that you will find the same peace, joy, and rejuvenating rest that our family finds here within these walls.
Feel free to contact me with any questions about the cottage or the area. I would be glad to help.

Even though the weather was cool and rainy, the house was perfect with the screened in porch and outdoor fire pit. The house was fully stocked and perfect for dinners with family.

This was our second time staying here. We love the location. The cottage has everything you need for your stay. The host is friendly and easy to communicate with. This is perfect for bigger families.

The cottage was full of character you expect in a house built in 1901. Unexpected was the beautiful kitchen and screen porch additions. The new part was just as charming and had all the modern conveniences. We cooked every night of our week stay and ate in the screened in porch. Kitchen was quite large and comfortable. We enjoyed the setting in the summer but would also be beautiful in fall and winter.

I have been coming up to this area in Michigan my whole life but this is the first time I have stayed in this specific area (CSA, for those who know what that is) and this was really great. The area is great for walking around, both beaches -Lake Michigan and Crystal Lake- are 5 minute walks away. Lots of parking. Everything about this house and area is great. Emily is great.

This was an amazing stay! The only thing I would change would be that the pictures on the listing could be brightened up / refreshed. I think it was much cozier and brighter in person! The neighborhood and home was as authentic northern Michigan as it gets. House was fully stocked with everything we forgot to bring (toilet paper, toothpaste, life jackets and plenty of games). We loved the fire pit outside and the screened in porch. Lastly the host was great. 5 stars all around.

Our stay in Frankfort was lovely, and the house is definitely a treasure. There was plenty of space for 8 of us; the kitchen was well furnished; the modern bathrooms and laundry room was a perfect balance to the rustic charm of the historic part of the cottage; and the screened in porch was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the trees and ambiance of the neighborhood. It was a great location, and we would definitely stay there again! Thank you, Brew Crew!

We really enjoyed the cabin. It was roomy and very clean. There were enough beds for everyone and plenty of bedding. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook the food we brought. The only negative is that the neighbor across the street repeatedly complained to our kids (instead of talking to the adults). Other than that, our stay was wonderful. We are sad to say we wouldn’t stay again only because of that neighbor.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in this beautiful cabin. This was by far one of our favorite vacation spots. It’s home away from home. Emily is a gracious and warm hostess. It certainly felt warm and cozy, we will be back in the fall for another doze of beauty and serenity.

Our family stayed with another (total of 5 kids ages 6, 7, 10, 12 & 14) for a week in hopes of enjoying beaches and the Sleeping Bear Dunes. The Crystalia Cottage did not disappoint! It's 119 year old charm paired with the large kitchen, washer/dryer, 2 bathrooms and fantastic screen porch was everything our families could have hoped for! It's located in the woods, but a quick walk to a public access point on Crystal Lake, bike ride to Lake Michigan or 5 minute drive to Frankfort. Highly recommend!

Wonderful Cottage! July 2020
We loved this property! The location was perfect! We could walk or ride our bikes to Crystal Lake. Frankfort was a short drive. Loved that the property came with kayaks and bikes.
This home was very clean and spacious for our large family. The screened in back porch was our favorite spot. Everything you need for a week away is provided by the owners. Would definitely book here again. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Very clean and lots of sleeping space.
This was more of a home than a cottage. We had 6 of us sleep comfortably, and the home was well-stocked. It was close to town and the Lake. My first priority when staying in properties is cleanliness and it was VERY clean!

Vacation stay at Crystal Cottage
The cottage was wonderful and great for a big family (therefore nine of us). It was great to have a well-stocked house - we didn't need worry about beach towels or bed linens. Easy access to Crystal Lake Frankfort and the Betsie Light House. Kind of a long drive to get to Sleeping Bear but it's pleasant drive. No complaints!

Lovely clean, cozy cottage with all amenities
We spent a lovely week in this cottage. It has a rustic feel but has been modernized in the important places -- no cobwebs or critters that we saw! A lovely spacious kitchen and two full bathrooms (note they are both downstairs and most of the beds are upstairs) and plenty of bedrooms. All the beds are single except for the one in the downstairs bedroom. Our kids loved the big loft room and ceiling fans helped keep the upstairs rooms cool in hot, sticky weather. We loved the firepit for roasting marshmallows (wood, kindling and skewers provided!) and just had a wonderful time.
