About this house rental
This is a unique 4000+ sq. ft. house that has been divided into two separate and very private living units. The unit described here is the largest with over 2200 sq. ft. of family oriented area. Having been associated with VRBO for over ten years, we have had many very satisfied guests and favorable reviews. We take great pride in personally greeting our guests and making their stay as comfortable as possible. We welcome your inquiries and strive to respond to your questions and inquiries within 24 hours.
If you book with us, you and your guests will enjoy three nights, a week, or months in this unique residence located in Santa Barbara's historic Mission Canyon on the banks of Mission Creek. Our unusual house is built among the large oak trees and sandstone boulders that are found throughout the canyon and has large picture windows and skylights throughout that make it seem as if you are living outdoors or in a treehouse. The house is surrounded by a large garden of ferns, coastal live oak trees, maples, and redwoods, is adjacent to the beautiful Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens, and is within walking distance to several hiking and bike trails and five minutes to numerous historic and cultural attractions such as the Old Mission (Queen of the Missions), Museum of Natural History, and others. The downtown area and renound beaches of Santa Barbara are only a 10-15 minute drive. The Santa Ynez Valley's Lake Cachuma Recreation Area, infamous wine country, and numerous horse ranches are only a scenic 30 minute drive over the picturesque San Marcos Pass Road.
DISCLOSURES: This is a single family residence on one acre that has a full time Homeshare tenant in a separate but completely private section of the home with its own parking and entrance. The Homeshare tenant and his family have been personal friends of the owner for nine years and watch over the house when the owners are out of town. The Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa Barbara have recently passed an ordinance that eliminates short term vacation renting of single family residences in the unincorporated section of the County unless they have a long term Homeshare tenant or owner living on the property. This ordinance took effect in September 2018.

We had a magical stay in this unique house! We loved feeding the fish in the morning, seeing the owner's art on the walls and relaxing in the hot tub. Dave met us on arrival and was very helpful.
We hope we get a chance to return one day!

We had a great time at this property. Loved hearing the frogs and owls at night. Very close to everything, but nice to come back to nature. We hope to be back again.

Really cool place to stay, quiet, 2 min drive to the Botanic Garden, less than 10 min drive to stores/restaurants.
Comfy bed, lots of movies streaming (great for a rainy night). We got to feed the fish in the pond. Well stocked kitchen. Dave greeted us & gave the tour, and checked in after the first night.
Unfortunately the hot tub was not working while we were there. The patio where it’s located is still a lovely place to sit outside when the weather’s cooperative.

home in a quiet, secluded area, not far from the action, but very private.

The property was comfortable and in a great location.

The house was nice and spacious. There were some issues. The dishwasher didnt work, one of the barstools was broke and i fell off, the chair in living room is broke, toilets flush poorly (likely septic issue), the master shower had grout brekaing off and cut our feet, many of the screens were torn and there are mosquitoes everywhere. Nice place but needs some attention

Great communication with host, well equipped and comfortable gathering place for our holiday family visit. Lovely canyon location, grotto atmosphere.

We had a lovely time enjoying being in Mission Canyon, watching the birds and the Coy pond.

Dave and Patti’s house was a cozy delight for my family and I! We were in town for a wedding and opted for accommodations outside the bustle of downtown. It was quiet and restful. An easy/short drive into town. We loved the spacious layout and all the natural light. We enjoyed the koi pond and the hot tub! There were some ants making themselves at home in a couple places but the house was clean and perfect for what we needed. We would absolutely stay again.

This house is very unusual with it's many windows that really bring the outside into the house. You will get your exercise with all of the stairs((19) just to go upstairs with many more outside.. We did get invaded by ants and many spiderwebs inside but that's nature. The owner was very professional and we say thank you.

This is a beautiful property in a convenient location to anything you want to do in Santa Barbara. We found that we were only 10 - 15 minutes from town or various other locations we were going to. The house is very unique. Beautiful artwork throughout by one of the owners. Rooms are large and comfortable. Anything we needed was provided for. The owner was accessible for anything we needed.
4.8
The owner is very nice and accessable. He also gave us a detailed tour of the house.
The yard is very beautiful.
The house is charming and comfortable for one couple, since the bedroom area upstairs is big and has everythig. The flight of stairs leading to it, though, is very steep and long (19 stairs). The second bedroom is cramped and dark, and you need to get to it through the cramped bathroom. Luckily we didn't really need to use it.
The living area is beautiful and comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked.
The biggest problem we had was the existance of rodents. We discovered them after our third night. We had a bag of granola on the kitchen counter that disappeared. We eventually found it behind the microwave with holes in it, and a turd next to it. We thought we discovered where they come in from - a hole in the screen in the window in the bedroom downstairs that was apparently left a bit open (not by us). We closed the window, and put most everyting in the refrigerator, but the next morning we found the one avocado on the counter gnawed on. We were leaving then, so we didn't care anymore.
There were also creatures that look like flying termites above the dining room. They were shedding their wings a lot, so if you eat there you might find those wings in your food.
Another problem is the sharp turn into the driveway right after the bridge - we find it quite hard.

We really enjoyed staying at this house and it was great to be able to spend time together as a family in a comfy location. The garden view is also very calming from the dining nook. The host was very friendly!

This is a cool little house! It has some quirky mid-century modern vibes but its a lovely, tranquil home in a little oasis on the edge of Mission Canyon. Easy to get to downtown Santa Barbara, quickly. Dave was a friendly and attentive host.

Beautiful property. My family loved their stay. The only issue was the sound of the jacuzzi pump which intermittently hummed throughout the night. Otherwise, would definitely stay again!

This property is located on peaceful grounds. Very enjoyable sitting by the koi pond. The house had everything we needed.

light filled unique home
This is a unique, spacious, light filled property in the beautiful mission canyon. The setting is stunning. The open kitchen living room and dining area look out onto a dense garden with a koi pond and water
feature. The diversity of nature is everywhere. At night you can be
lulled to sleep by the chorus of frogs singing nightly. The location
is close to the botanic gardens and an easy drive to everything you
want or need in Santa Barbara. The house is well stocked and communication with the nearby owners is quick and easy. The hosts, Dave and Patty, are very responsive to any need. They are lovely people, interesting and interested, and we enjoyed talking with them
and only wish we had more opportunity to get to know them better.
We would love to come back to this property at some point in the future and recommend it highly as a great place to stay while visiting Santa Barbara.

We chose this home based on 47 glowing reviews & they turned out to be so completely false that we have asked VRBO for an investigation. My husband & I rented it for a week & my cousin joined us the second day. This property is deteriorating & in major need of cleaning & maintenance, inside & out. Owner took us on a tour & when we arrived upstairs (very narrow steep flight not pictured) there were dozens of flying termites on inside of screen door. He sprayed them & told us where vacuum cleaner was.I then began texting him for 2 days regarding the problems with an extremely unclean home. He replied that he had a long history with his cleaning people, & that being old was part of the homes charm! It was not at all charming to look out of filthy windows covered with cobwebs & dead leaves. Or to spend the first 2 days vacuuming up dust, cobwebs & spiders everywhere with a vacuum that was falling apart. We asked for a shop vac & it had very poor suction. We both cleaned inside & out, getting rid of leaves everywhere, trying to hose down the windows & did our best to clean around the Koi pond. Dont know how the poor fish survive. We couldnt even see them through a net filled with leaves & slime. The only place that was reasonably clean was the living room. My cousin arrived to find the cramped, dark guest bedroom very dirty. He found long dark hairs in the shower & had to plunge the toilet every time he used it. Our shower head leaked & was always wet inside. The bathroom counter was swarming with ants & the owner provided more traps/spray but they never went completely away. When we spilled some water on the kitchen floor, the paper towel came away black. Same thing with the bathroom floors--they had not been cleaned. The inside of the oven is a horror & filled with smoke when we tried to warm food up. Ants in kitchen also. The beds & pillows were ancient & hard. EVERYTHING in the home is very old & what these reviewers mean by comfortable is a mystery. The only positive thing we can say here is the outdoor scenery is very pretty. But the extremely dirty windows spoil that. We stuck it out only because we wanted to visit with my cousin. After 5 days of opening drawers & having ants swarming over our clothing & toilet articles, & so many other depressing issues, we were all desperate to get out & started making phone calls to hotels. We checked out a day early. This owner should be ashamed & should have offered some kind of refund.

Mission Canyon
We absolutley loved our stay in this home. It was secluded from the hustle and bustle of Santa Barbara, yet still centrally located. The wifi was spotty at best, but that just allowed us to enjoy the beauty that surrounds this property even more. We left feeling relaxed and rejuevenated. We would definitely stayi here again when we are in the area.

Lovely Private Home
Both the owner David and the onsite property manager Dessica were extremely helpful whenever we had questions. However they were never intrusive and we felt at home. The grounds are beautiful with lots of mature trees and green foliage which was a real treat for us from AZ. The home had everything we needed and was as advertised. The only downside was the stairs up to the MBR however there is another bedroom on the main level. We would definitely stay here again when we visit Santa Barbara!

Funky Santa Barbara Getaway
This home is funky in the best possible way. Eat dinner looking at the Koi pond and tropical feel gardens. The photos are true!
Great S.B. location!

Perfect place to relax
On previous trips to Santa Barbara, we stayed close to the water. While the places were convenient, they were packed in tight. This time we chose to stay near the Mission and we did not regret it for one moment. Starting each day sitting and overlooking the creek or the fish pond was totally relaxing. Plenty of parking space, so friends and family could join us without any struggle to find a place to park. Rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The private patio off the master suite was great for late evening relaxation.
Dave was a premier host responding to our every need.
I definitely recommend considering this place when visiting Santa Barbara.
