Gorgeous grounds. Attention to detail in every corner of the architecture. Great, professional staff. Wonderful massages. Our room sat above a roaring river. We loved the pool and hot tubs. Delicious food.
Almost everything in we ate during the fixed dinners was delicious. One night the soup was so salty that we couldn't eat it- we thought it was a surprising quality control flop given how good everything else was.

Superb grounds next to the river, most comfortable bed of our trip. Excellent breakfast & customer service.
We didn't eat here as it was expensive and you could only have four courses. However we found great alternative restaurants within easy walk away.

absolutely everything! the small details, the food, the river access the pool, the staff (and the 2 friendly cats); better than many 5* hotels we’ve stayed in!

The aesthetic design is outstanding. The food was incredibly healthy and locally sourced. Our breakfasts were well planned and extremely generous. The Rio Spa professionals are experienced, with meticulous attention to wellness and healing. The yoga studio is impressive. The grounds were full of wildlife delights and we only left grounds to visit the nearby butterfly dome and a great lunch at Batsu Restaurant.
I recommend staying at least three nights because of how wonderful your stay is. Children will be welcomed and safe in the secure oasis.
The staff had a great idea of before and after photos (even if it's just a private lookbook) of guests when they arrive compared to when they leave. I definitely transformed over our two night stay.
We did not like to leave. I thought the woodstove hot tub was brilliant and might hope that a similar non electric, wood fire, hair drying system/station could be made. With such a great pool, hot showers, jacuzzi (electrical) and the woodstove (non electrical) hot tub you're going to have wet hair at some point. Hair dampness robs/depletes the body's qi and my hair will not air dry. It would be great to be able to dry your hair without a noisy blow dryer. I think Rio Chirripo will solve this brilliantly. Perhaps they have hair blowdryer, but I did not want to use one in such a serene setting. The wood fire would be an ideal way to dry hair before evening comes.

This is truly the best place to stay in Costa Rica. We loved everything. Spacious and comfortable rooms, beautiful area to walk around and relax. Garden with a Hot tub, whirlpool and swimming pool close by the river. Our highlight was the pre-breakfast in a basket, the yoga session in the morning followed by a delicious a la carte breakfast and all that with perfect vegan or vegetarian options. Even for dinner, don't miss it!
Nothing! :)

It is difficult describe this place without using cliches and phrases that sound like exaggerations but are not. So, to sum up our stay, I can honestly say that our stay at Rio Chirripo felt like a stay in paradise. From the grounds to the services offered to the staff to the food, everything was absolutely incredible. One of the only places I have ever stayed that I would be more than thrilled to return to.
Just a few of the things we loved:
-Our room, the Rio Vista suite, was absolutely perfect. Gorgeous, bright, and private, with awesome views and its own huge outdoor deck/sitting area and great outdoor kitchen.
-The people who work here. Roger, who works in the evening, was so friendly and kind. He makes incredible cocktails. Amanda, who works in the morning at reception, was also very helpful and sincere.
-The food and drinks here. About an hour and a half before breakfast, a basket of homemade goodies and juice are dropped off at your door. And this is just the "pre-breakfast!" The breakfasts themselves are the best we've had at any hotel, ever. The coffee is riquísimo, the yogurt comes from a local producer, and the main breakfast plates are creative and colorful, with veggies incorporated as well. The dinners, which have an additional cost, were made with love and fresh ingredients.
-The complimentary yoga class our first morning here. The teacher was kind and clear, and the yoga studio is so beautiful. Unfortunately there was no yoga class offered the second morning of our stay because a teacher could not be located.
-The Chirripo river itself! It is just a five minute walk down from the main building of the hotel down to the river, which has many points of safe access. It was incredible to go into the river in the morning to wake myself up and then jump in one of the two jacuzzis on the property. Ahhhhh.
-The massages we got from Jensi were incredible. I left feeling more relaxed than I have felt in a very long time.
It would have been great if yoga could have been offered every day, but I understand that sometimes it can be hard to find a teacher. Perhaps if a morning class is not possible, an afternoon class could be offered.

The property is beautiful and kept in good shape.
We had a very serious bug problem in the bathroom of our room and when we asked if we could have it looked at, it got much worse. We could not step into the bathroom without crunching on a bug.

Hotel is located in a wonderful garden directly to the river. Everthing was wonderful fine and romantic. Thanks to Frank and his very attentive and friedly team. The breakfast is extraordinarily good. We extended our stay for one night and will definetely come back.

5.0 / 10.0
10/10 for the staff, they are all very friendly and helpful
8/10 for the rooms, as they were spacious, the beds were very comfortable, and the views excellent - the worst part was the obvious damp / mould in places and the sheer number of creepy crawlies (way more than any other of the 5 hotels we stayed in during our trip).
4/10 for the food, the meals are at set times (dinner at 7.30pm, although they also do an unadvertised dinner at 6.30pm IF you say this is too late), there is no choice (it's a set 4-course meal) that has to be booked in advance (leaving no flexibility), you only get minimal information in advance (e.g. whether it's vegetables, fish or chicken that day), and the course are very eclectic (think 'vegan chocolate and avocado mouse' being served after a meat main course). All 4 courses are served and finished in 40 mins (you are working to their timetable!) and portion sizes are pitiful. Similarly breakfast, it is still prescriptive apart from 2 choices for 'main' (never had a spicy chicken salad or lasagne for breakfast, well you will here!).
Outside of breakfast and dinner they don't serve anything apart from a packed lunch and the nearnest restaurant is a 1hr round trip walk away.
3/10 for location. We came without a car, and I wouldn't recommend anyone without a car staying here, it's a 2hr round trip walk to the entrance to the cloud forest (which made the whole walk 6hrs), a 2.5hr round trip walk to the entrance to the hotels nature reserve (making the whole walk 4 hours), and its a 1hr round trip walk to restaurants if you want food outside of breakfast and dinner. The hotels only proposed solution was that they get a local (not a licensed taxi) to drive us the 4km for $40!

everything is simply incredible here, one of my most favorite hotels in Costa Rica. Surrounded by nature the location is incredible. The food is simply amazing, all home made, very healthy and super tasteful. Thank you for creating this space and experience!

Highlight of our trip! Absolutely faultless this place, every detail is above and beyond. Breakfast is unbelievable.... everyday a different choice and 3 courses. Dinner was fantastic, highly recommend to eat at least one of your nights. We didn't want to leave!!
Absolutely nothing to not like about this place.

The stunning location and design of the hotel and the rooms. The most comfortable beds we've ever had. The bathroom with views to die for and smelt like a spa! The outside kitchen area with fresh coffee. Fantastic food in the restaurant. The nature trail and wood fired hot-tub.
The pool was absolutely beautiful but too cold for me!
