Anchor House, built in the 1880s, has been kept in traditional style so you can have that feeling of stepping back into the past. It has a wood parlor stove and soft bed linen for warmth and comfort Some modern amenities have been added to Anchor House for your comfort including a 42" LED flat screen TV, cable TV, and a stainless steel range. It also has a large yard for relaxing or playing.
Anchor House is one lot from the water with nothing but a couple of trees, grass and some sand between it and the water. (As a courtesy an owner of the lot situated directly behind and on West Bay and behind Anchor House currently allows renters of Anchor House recreational use of the lot and beach and to access the water. Just take the steps down the back of Anchor House, cross the foot bridge, and follow the path.*)
Anchor House's living room has a 3 seat sofa, a swivel armchair, flat screen TV, cable, a DVD player, and a small collection of movies for when you are stuck indoors. North of the sitting room is an eat-in kitchen with an extendable dining table, stainless electric range, full size refrigerator, coffee maker, pots, pans, crockery, glassware and utensils.
On the first floor of Anchor House are three of the four bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queen size bed, while the second bedroom has a water view and a full size bed. The remaining first floor bedroom has twin bunk beds. On the second floor is the loft bedroom which has two twin beds and access is by way of loft stairs. The standard, seasonal and event accommodation rates include 6 people and use of the 3 bedrooms on the 1st floor (1xqueen, 1xfull, and one set of bunk beds). The loft bedroom is secured from entry unless prior arranged at an additional cost of $10 per night. Each additional person, above 6 people, attracts an additional nightly rate of $5 per person (this includes the use of the loft) to a maximum occupation of 9 people. The 9th person would be accommodated on a fold out small twin bed or the sofa bed.
The Anchor House bathroom is bright and fresh and contains a shower, toilet, sink and vanity cabinet. Your bathroom linen is all there waiting for you to use it.
Outside, on two sides of Anchor House, is an undercover porch with some comfortable seating including an old school pew. At the back of the House is a deck with a patio table and seating for dining.
The Anchor House also has a park charcoal grill for your family BBQ. There is also a small firepit in front of the deck so you can look at the fire and the view from the deck.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Anchor House and would highly recommend others to stay there as well . The decor was well thought out and was in keeping with the period that the home was built . The grill was awesome and was used frequently . We would highly recommend the Anchor house to our family and friends

My childhood BFF and our daughters (same age) stayed here to visit the big lake. Anchor House was adorable, clean, comfortable, well appointed with a full kitchen and all the things you might actually have at home (not the typical 1 dull knife and a few random utensils). The house provided us with just enough room to hang out together comfortably yet still have our own quiet spaces. The hosts were super helpful with a few questions we had at arrival. The beds were comfy, the location was convenient. Just a really darling home with history and character. We're already talking about doing this again.

We had such a lovely stay at Anchor House. We loved the character of the place, and had everything we needed to have a comfortable stay. The house was in a great location , within walking distance to town and the beach. We so enjoyed dinner on the deck and our time by the lake. We would definitely stay again!

Windy trip with rain but the historical home and town were great

The anchor house was great very comfortable had every thing we needed and within Walking distance of town. The access to the beach was not the best the boardwalk was falling apart and dangerous part of fhe path was very wet and muddy. Not worth going down to the beach. The view from the side of the property was great no need to use the path down to the each

We very much enjoyed our stay, It was very relaxing. This home was clean and quiet and equipped for all of our cooking needs. We loved coffee in the morning and family time on the back deck and around the fire in the evening. We would definitely come back.

We were thrilled with every aspect of this lovely home. The bed in the main bedroom was comfortable, and the kitchen and bathroom were extremely well-stocked. The house is charming -- we loved using the pot-bellied stove and the abundance of candles. Everything we could want or need was thought of -- including a tea kettle for my morning tea! The house is very convenient to town, and the restaurants. If it hadn't been so cold, we could have easily walked there. Access to the beach is wonderful. We couldn't have been happier with our choice to stay here, and we will definitely be back. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Get away from Chicagoland with family
Love at first sight. Quaint and comfortable with nice location for quiet getaway. Potbelly stove was pleasant and easily used. If the owners wished to make one impactful change all they would need to do is purchase comfortable beds. The only negative we had was two nights of poor sleep. It is one thing to advertise restful location then you should be able to sleep through the night without skewers and lumps.

What a wonderful experience to stay in this lovely quaint home overlooking the bay. So much to see and do in the area, especially if you’re a rock hound! Highly recommend staying here and we hope to return.

Great location for visit to pictured rocks.
Cool house with local historic vibe. Clean and nicely kept. Lack of cell service can be a positive or a negative, depending on your perspective on that.

A Superior Stay in Grand Marais
My sister and I loved our stay in this beautiful 1880s cottage. Grand Marais is our fathers hometown and we’ve been coming back for visits all our lives. Loved the location and the decor was wonderful. Loved the potbelly stove and other furnishings. We would definitely choose to come back and stay here on another visit. 😊😊

Anchor House
Great location and accepting pets was a bonus. While the place is old it met our needs quite nicely. The only reason 5 stars was not given is because the yard needs some trimming done. The water is barely visible as the bushes in back are all overgrown and look nothing like the listing picture. The path to the water needs a major trim job before someone trips down the path they cannot see. We mostly used the side door to enter into the home via the kitchen and the tree limb is low enough to hit your head as I did multiple times. All in all the location and price made the overgrown vegetation a minor inconvenience.

We would visit again!
There was eight of us and four dogs.
We would come back to this place again. They had everything you needed for a nice campfire and more! The towns folks was also friendly!

Charming!
It was nice being right in Grand Marais as we could walk to restaurants in downtown and the food trucks as well as the waters edge! It was unseasonably hot for the first part of June so sleeping was a bit difficult to spite having all the windows open. Still, we had a lovely time with and enjoyed ourselves!

Quaint, cute getaway place!

Wonderful getaway
The property had everything we needed for a long weekend. Getting the fire going in the potbelly stove took some work, but it kept the place nice and toasty for us while it snowed outside. We loved that we were able to bring our dogs along for our trip!

Great location to absorb Grand Marais
The location is perfect to enjoy all the area has to offer, both driving and walking. We enjoyed this property. It is roomy and comfortable, and well equipped. Have to mention the shower is very small, useable, but small. Property host was great communicating with us.

Sweet Cottage
This was one of our all time favorite stays!! It’s like a step back in time to visit grandma’s house. Lots of charm and very comfortable. We love Grand Marais ... we’ll return to this property again and again!

Great location!
We stayed at Anchor House for three weeks and enjoyed every day. Comfy, cozy beds. Very clean. Big kitchen with everything you might need (and I do lots of cooking). Great new deck in back with nice view of the bay. Helen, the local property manager, quickly responds to any questions. Easy walk to restaurants, shops and little museums. I’ve been coming to Grand Marais for over ten years. It’s a delightful town and excellent location for exploring Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the central Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Great place
Wonderful little house; water level (which owner can't control) was high which made beach access from the home more challenging. I would absolutely stay here again.

My Review of Anchor House
It was very cute. I was told that the check in time was 4 not 3.
Because of it being listed by VRBO, or whtever. It made it a lot more expensive than what it advertised for. Pages and pages of rules, but I understand that not everyone treats a place that belongs to someone else, as carefully and thoughtful as our family does.
We have been coming to Grand Marais for 40 years and the charm is still there full force. This cute Anchor Bay house seemed to reflect that "Grand Marais Charm".
We had a wonderful time.
The lilacs on the table were a topper!

The cottage has tons of old time charm. Just love this quaint little town. If you are looking for a quiet little town with beautiful scenic areas, this is the place.

Quaint cottage
Nice little cottage right in town with a good view of the bay from the yard. Everything was very clean and organized. We missed the fine print and thought we reserved entire place with all four bedrooms but the fourth one was a loft that was locked and it cost extra to use. One room has bunk beds and the bottom bunk has a very springy mattress; okay for little kids but definitely not for a middle-aged adult. The top bunk was much firmer but it’d be a challenge for someone older than 45 to climb up into. The other two bedrooms were very comfy and absolutely fine. The kitchen was easy to use and well stocked with kitchenware to cook with. Not having WiFi access was a relaxing break to have. We loved the kitchen table for all our card games! :-)

quaint old home
This is a turn of the last century style home where a number of the vintage features have been preserved. The working pot belly stove in particular is a wonderful way to add atmosphere and let you imagine what life was like long ago. The home is well equipped and well maintained.

Lovely house in great town
We stayed at Anchor House for 4 days and really enjoyed it. It is an easy walk to the downtown area (restaurants and small grocery with some smattering of shops). The house has a nice kitchen and bath (altho, as others have mentioned, the shower is smallish). The house was clean with everything we needed for our stay. Owner was super helpful, especially when I realized I needed one more day than I had originally signed up for and she helped me add the day. Lovely view of the bay and you can walk out to the beach. Since it was mid-September we did not get in the water.Highly recommended.
